The Note3 docking station - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

I'm keen to take advantage of the phablet nature of the note3, I'm considering investing in the docking station Samsung do which has the various usb, speaker and hdmi ports so I can add a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers for use as a work desktop,
This will save me from lugging around my 18" alienware and will increase productivity as I won't be tempted to start up Rome TW2 instead of doing the business accounts.
With these accessories, is thus a plug and play solution or do u have to source drivers to run such components?
Thanks again

RAZR Dock Differences?

Hello!
I'm planning to but original dock for my RAZR, and I see that there are two versions of it. What are differences between them?

http://www.motorolastore.eu/pl/p_motorola_product.aspx?i=225121
It bugging me, since they are looking the same but the second one is much more expensive. And description is the same.
Cheaper one has only one USB port for charging, another is equipped with hub and three USB ports. HDMI micro socket is in both models.
Ed. Ale bardziej opłaca się złożyć samemu =]
Also, The more expensive dock has a standalone Firefox web browser. I purchased the more expensive one and use a usb mouse and a bluetooth keyboard and it's like having a full PC on your TV through the HDMI cable. You could probably do the same thing with the less expensive dock if you have a Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard combo but I am pretty sure you can only go into mirror on display mode vs the full webtop application. Either way, I think it would be a worthwhile purchase in my opinion. I enjoy using it.
Additionally I was told that the less expensive model does not include the mini HDMI cable. Not sure if that would influence your decision or not.
I'm just wondering. And I don't mean to jack the mans thread, but has a powered USB hub ever been successfully patched into the dock interface? If its easy enough I might try modding mine.

So, basically in more expensive model you can access Webtop, while in cheaper one, you can't, right? Or am I wrong and it's only USB ports and browser difference?
Also, lack of HDMI cable is no problem. I can get one easily xD
The one I have has no USB ports. It only has HDMI, Audio and a micro USB charging port. I'm just wondering if a USB splitter can be added some way?

@UrbanDroid
But can you acces Webtop App like on more expensive one? If it doesn't have Webtop app then it's not worth to buy it.
Also I have questions for other. Is it possible to attach normal USB hub to it and make it work like expensive dock? I mean, connect normal HUB with three normal USB slots and one microUSB for charging. Is it even possible without tearing dock apart? I know it's less stylish then buying expensive one, but unfortunatelly I can't afford it xD Life is brutal and stuff.
Webtop is in your phone, not the dock. The docks play some tricks with USB pins so the phone knows which dock it's in and which mode to activate.
People have used USB hubs to add devices to the RAZR, with or without a dock. The only caveat is that the hub must have its own power supply and you may have to make a cable to have it work. Google around for it.
The ICS leak (.211/OTA?, at least) will enable webtop without using a dock at all. Just plug in an HDMI cable and you're good.
Confirming. I've got the simple dock for free with the costco verizon deal recently. No mHDMI cable included. However the web top works the same through the dock as with the cable only (upgraded to ICS right away, so can't tell for GB, but who cares now, as JB is coming? ). Tinkering with the idea of installing a USB hub board inside the dock. Looks straight forward, just need to measure the inside compartment to get a proper hub for parts.

The 1 thing I think the dock is missing...

Is a blue tooth module so you could hook your prime up to the tv and take the dock for typing to the couch and so forth. Having a long ass HDMI cable dangling from the prime is kind of impractical for couch surfing.
Considering the prime's BT issues even that could be a problem lol.
You could buy a bluetooth keyboard with some form of mouse input built in. I have this, which I can't find anywhere anymore, but there looks to be a smaller version here that might do the trick.
There are apps you load so you can control your prime from your Android phone. Like a remote..
I already have a diNovo Edge, great keyboard. I just thought it would make the dock even that much more functional instead of going out and buying another accessory.
Thanks for the app tip and keyboard link. :good:
I'd rather have USB 3.0 as another slot altogether. they could have done it and I would have paid extra for it
I voted to raise the thread star level.
I agree with the Bluetooth for the keyboard cause having a 12' HDMI cable going from my tv to my lap is a bit of a tripping hazard. Also I agree with the addition of a second USB port that is USB 3.0 so data could be transferred faster.
I bet we will see all of these added to the next tablet released by Asus, if not Apple or Microsoft will jump on it and give customers what they are asking for.

OTG USB + HDMI at the same time?

Hi everyone.
I found a few similar threads, but mainly for other phones.
The official dock would be amazing, but $100 is a little pricey:
I was looking for something that would allow me to use my Note 2 on a TV using HDMI, but also allow me to plug in a USB keyboard (and hopefully a USB mouse as well). I have a bluetooth keyboard, but it is small and not as comfortable as my fullsize USB keyboard.
I don't plan on using it too often, which is why I don't think it would be a good idea to spent $100 on the dock. The main purpose for this is a week-long trip for work coming up in March.
PS, using Splashtop to access a computer with HDMI is pretty awesome! Not bad at all considering I'm using a phone.
Any help or tips is greatly appreciated!

Hope this helps any one who is looking for a way to dock, charge their phone, mirror their screen. and listen to music on their home theater all with just one device. Well, two counting the keyboard.
This smart dock is really cool, here is another demo of it getting hooked up with a KMV cable:

The one in your link is for the N2 and S3-S4. One new feature the N3 came out with is the USB 3.0.
I'm waiting for Sammy to come out with a dedicated dock for the N3 to take advantage of the higher speeds, that is if you want to set it up as your new desktop computer with mouse/keyboard, HDMI monitor and an external HDD hooked up to it... I'll wait.
The one in the link is for the GN3 as well if you check.
I wouldn't hold my breath. Samsung doesn't seem to be in any hurry to come out with ANY accessories for the GN3, let alone a dock that is going to be pretty much the same as this one. The 3.0 usb is only faster for smaller files. There's been a couple of guys on the forums who have run some tests. I personally have found it a little faster for some things, but overall, not much. With my set up and an SSD, I'm not waiting for anything at all when I'm working on it.

how functional would a touch screen monitor be if it were hooked up with this?

It is for n3 also. You're not benefitting much from the usb3. I'd rather wait for 64bit phones to come out and mature some before I start using a desktop dock.

It should work fine, but I don't have one so I can't test it to see. By connecting the keyboard with a mouse it automatically switches the interface to the mouse instead of the phones touch screen, so It may or may not see the touch screen feature of the monitor. I would just take it to someplace like Best Buy and test it first if I were you.

Right, it's compatible with the N3, but it doesn't mean it was made for it.
So you think the end user would benefit more (see the actual speed increase) from the 64 bit computing rather than transfer speeds increase from using the USB 3.0? I'm sure the dock station mean for a light home use (internet, documents, multimedia, etc, not sure about gaming with this setup) and not for the 3D modeling and such? I honestly can't say that I was blown away from switching to 64 bit home PC and notebook, the noticeable difference on a phone would be even less.
Thinking about it, can't even say I'd see the benefits of USB 3.0 as I don't (and won't be) copying files between the phone memory and the external storage.

I'll try to get you some pics this weekend. It should fit with your case. I have the Poetic Invictus (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EXA6WY6/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) on mine and it fits with room to spare. The GN3 sits just a little bit to the left in the stand due to the location of the USB 2 connection, but it is very slight and barely noticable, imo.

I'm a bit concerned that case seems' significantly thinner than mine but the pics will be much appreciated It will allow me to make an informed decision and have you done the HDMI connection to a TV is there an issue with it or is everything on the dock working properly I saw the video about the KMV switcher where he forced landscape but the sizing issue is of concern I'll probably have to bite the bullet on that one.

Everything works perfectly. I watch full screen HD movies on my home theater system all the time. And the dock automatically switches the view on the HDMI connected peripheral to landscape. as long as you have daydream toggled off in display and desk home screen display toggled on in accessory. You should also set HDMI audio output to surround if you have a home theater system.
You don't need KMV switcher.
I get my movies from Showbox. Due to XDA policies, I can't post the apk for it here, but you can just Google it to download and install.
I am not getting 1080p
When I hook up the dock to the monitor it is giving me 1280x720. Any ideas?
Hello... I would buy this dock. But a question. Why have the note3 so a different usb-connector.. Micro-usb +??? My Orginal Samsung otg cable works. My non Samsung Orginal mhl-hdmi cable works. What or for What is this connector.. Another little help please. Cover and dock works together i read, is this right? I use Orginal Samsung s view Cover.
Gn3 has a usb3.0 connector. Standard 2.0 micro USB works fine
I'm really disappointed with the smart dock.
There is a lag of half a second between the action and the display on the TV screen, It's impossible to play any games in theses conditions.

Sounds like something wrong with your setup. There are a number of vids on YouTube showing the SmartDock in action, including one by XDA member NZTechFreak, demonstrating outstanding response - certainly no sign of "half a second" lag.
PM him and he may be able to offer you advice on getting it to work correctly.

There is lag from the MHL connection to the TV. I've an aftermarket MHL to HDMI cable and Samsungs own MHL connection, both which have a lag on TV screen compared to what is actually happening on the device.
Fine for Movies and Stuff, but completely unsuitable for gaming.

See NZtechfreak's YouTube vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hy3wETf5o0 here.
He plays games with the SmartDock and his PS3 controller, so "completely unsuitable for gaming" is a bit of an exaggeration.
And nobody said there was no lag. I questioned the previous poster's "half second" lag experience. The lag through the dock is closer to a tenth of a second, as is clearly visible the clip.
If that's unacceptable to you, then your choice is clear - don't get one. And not everybody plans on gaming. For me, the ability to stream Netflix to my TV justifies the SmartDock's existence.

Docking Station

Hi
I used to use multimedia docking station on my S4, but samsung (shame on them) do not use MHL port more
I have a KVM so I used to connect my gaming PC peripherals, monitor, speakers and the AC adapter with one button press placing the phone on the docking station
can't believe the only way is to buy bluetooth crap and connect 5 items everytimes one by one... chromecast, bluetooth keyboard, bluetooth mouse, speakers and ac adapter
what's the point to remove a masterpiece like docking station? we buy a faster phone and we could use it like a laptop with it but no...
is there a way with S7?
Unfortunately, Samsung does that a lot. They add several nice features to their new flag ships, but take useful features away at the same time. Like air-view and the ir blaster, both useful in my opinion but they took them away. MHL support definitely can be useful, so it is crazy that Samsung removed it. I'm not sure if the OTG feature might work with one item at a time but the only other way I am aware of is with bluetooth.
