I've just this minute flashed the latest CM11 zip file on my SIII through the CM update in the settings and I was surprised to see that it was relatively slower than other updates and there was also a lot of screen tearing and juttering when going from app to app and scrolling down the screen.
Anyway, the problem occurred when I tried going to back to an older version, it successfully installed the older version without a hitch but the problem is that the home screen UI crashes every time I press the home button. I can do everything else on my phone, I can pull down the notification pane and gain access to all the tiles there and if I get a facebook notification for example, I can load up facebook but as soon as I press the home button I get a message saying 'Unfortunately, Trebuchet has stopped.'
I know there are always problems when reverting back to a previous version but I was wondering if there would be an easy way to fix this without having to factory reset my phone.
EDIT - I just updated back to the latest version and the home screen UI is back but I don't really want to be on this version as it is laggy so if there's a way to use an older version without the home screen error then I'm all ears.
As you can see with the screenshot, I have the settings open which I opened through the tiles pane but trying to press the home button will result in that message popping up every time.

Just go back to a nightly where it didnt crash and you have a smooth UI. There is no problem with that. Dirty flashing works in both directions

That what I did do. I was using cm-11-20140131 then I updated to cm-11-20140202 which was laggy so I reverted back to cm-11-20140131 which was working before the update and this is where I encountered the home screen UI crash

Try another nightly. If you can open the settings, go to apps and look for the launcher. Clear its data and cache then

Same, with my GS4. Tried going back a few nightlies and back to the M release, but Trebuchet (or Launcher3) keep crashing even after wiping caches. I'm actually looking under Settings > Apps > All and don't see Launcher/Trebuchet anywhere...

This worked for me: Clearing data and cache
Pull down power menu and select settings
Method 1: Clearing data and cache
Go to system settings >> Apps>>Open “All” tab>>Select Trebuchet
Click Force Close>>Clear data and Clear cache of Trebuchet
Restart the phone

Hi Everyone,
I have searched the forum for possible solution to my issue, but I am not able to find anything that is relevant or something that I am willing to do.
What I am trying to do is to delete a blank homescreen on TouchWiz.
My set up is:
1. Samsung Galaxy S3 - International (Philippines)
2. I installed the Sept 9, 2012 leak via Odin without clearing my phone. I just have it installed as instructed.
3. It was working fine, until I mindlessly went to recovery mode and wiped my phone data - reset.
4. I have to reinstall all apps.
5. When I was happy with my four homescreen setup, I was trying to delete the extra home screen that I dont need or want.
6. Drag the empty homescreen to trash, and boom. It crashes.
I have done the following:
1. I have cleared the cache of touchwiz, and I did my home screens again. Still not able to delete the extra home screens.
2. I have wiped my phone for the second time, this time settings > back up and reset > factory data reset
3. Reinstalled all my apps again
4. Did my homescreen thing, and was able to delete the extra home screen. Yay!
5. I was trying to call, but instead of pressing the call button from the bottom row, it moved it to NEW homescreen. I moved it back to where it was, and now I'm stuck again with a fifth unnecessary homescreen.
6. When I try to delete the extra homescreen, the trash will not turn red, and will just crash.
I don't want to reset my phone again. I have cleared the cache of the homescreen several times (settings > application manager > all > TouchWiz home > Clear data).
I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, or was already addressed, but I am unable to find the solution as to how I can delete the extra home screen without resetting my phone for the nth time.
Thank you in advanced,
Regards,
~mark
TouchWiz crash JB XXDLI8
same problem here with an austrian SIII.
updated from DLI6 by 1st flashing Easy_Jelly_Base.XXBLG8-XXLH1_Odin.tar as a base
and then updating the I9300XXDLI8-OTA-I9300XXBLG8_BTU_297718496.zip via recovery. (w/o wipe!)
everything works pretty well and speedy except removing empty homescreens results in a crash of the touchwiz.
so i guess it´s "just" a bug and we´ve to wait for DLI9.

George

Not 100% sure on a solution to this, but you could try fixing permissions, as well as wiping your delvic cache and cache in recovery.
Alternatively you could also use APEX or NOVA Launcher as a substitute to Touchwiz...
Try flashing modded touchwiz launcher from themes and app section. It works flawlessly

Just to add to this, I've got the 'out of box' jb on my Vodafone UK Samsung galaxy s3.
It's not been rooted, just has the stock touchwiz. Same thing happens for me since the jb update.
Looks like it's possibly a touchwiz bug.

Solution to this has been found, in developer settings you have to enable the animation scale. Even setting it to 0,5 speed is OK.
Technically it's not a solution since it will happen if animations are turned off, but it's an easy and good workaround.
It worked for me
Thanks, it worked for me.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Works! Another note: Just enable the animator duration scale to 0.5 and it works! you can set the others to off.

Man, this is the only option that worked for me. Tried other websites suggestion such as clear touchwiz cache (which is a bit of a bugger because it will erase all of your settings) remove battery, animation to 10, and developer options off. The only option that worked for me is animation setting to .5x.
Thanks everyone.:good:
As the title mentioned, Jelly Bean supposed to have a new feature such that you can act on the Notification bar, depending on the app.
For example, if you received a Gmail notification (new email), you can pull down to see the Notification bar and from there you can click "Reply" or "Delete".
On my AT&T Note with JB, if I pull down the notification bar, I can SEE the action button but BRIEFLY. Within 0.5 seconds, it disappear and I can't press those action buttons.
Is there a setting I can change to make this work?
That's only with 4.2.2
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Yes the feature is there in the 4.1.2 release. I'm looking for settings but don't see any anywhere. But it works fine for me. Have you performed a factory data reset since you updated? It's solved numerous problems by doing so.
There isn't an option with the stock messaging app. If you push aosp mms.apk to system/app change permissions and reboot you'll have that option. I used the mms.apk from cm10.1 rc2

I did a factory reset and even formatted the USB storage and SD card.
The action button IS SHOWN, but only for 0.5 seconds and it disappears.

This applies to ANY apps that have this capabilities, such as Gmail and Plume Twitter app.
That's weird man. It's working fine for me and I can't find a setting anywhere. Did you change anything like font, dpi, or something?

Same here. Stock, and rooted with no problems. I wish I could help ya better, but there's no settings I can find. Only thing I can suggest is try wiping dalvik cache and see if that helps. If not maybe factory resetting again. Otherwise I'm at a loss.
No problem man. I'll try to reset the phone later and see what happens. This is really just bizarre. ..
Well, turns out I DO have it.
Remember when I said it shows up for 0.5 seconds and disappear? I have to swipe down the notification item itself (not the notification bar) with 2-fingers and then it'll show up.
It seems that the notification pull down gets "full" (I don't have that many) and it hides the action items.
I recently switch to a 4.4.4 ROM which doesn't have the side bar tab to bring up the window bar. I always used to set my long back press to kill app and did so again without thinking. Now I can't get MW to open, I've tried resetting to default and still nothing. Is there a way to fix this?

I figured it out, it was Gravity Box, apparently I can't change any buttons or it overrides the long back press to open MW. However in trying to solve one problem I think I created another. At the time I didn't realize GB was causing the problem and I wanted to have my settings to go back to default, my ROM dev recommended a dirty flash. My MW issue has been resolved but now Xposed seems like it doesn't have full root access. Root works for everything else, and a lot of Xposed features are working, but certain things (write to SD, GB's Smart Radio, GB's Status Bar icon color change to name a few) won't work/changes don't stick. The GB options are greyed out even after clicking On. I've tried uninstalling SuperSU updated and reinstalling, and fully uninstalling/reinstalling Xposed but nothing has worked so far. Any suggestions?

I finally found a solution for this, installing this app gives you a MW toggle that you could assign to a button or gesture in case anyone else ever has this issue

I'm having a problem with the "Close All" button found in the recent apps (Hold down Home button). After I use it, it displays the Touchwiz launcher rather than Nova or Apex. I tried both to get it working. Since trying a few things: Cleared Cache Partition in Recovery, Cleared Cache of the Apps I thought would be conflicting (Touchwiz App and Home Settings App) I've had no success. Now, the "Close All" button blacks out my screen until I hit the home button, in which it goes to actual selected launcher. I've created a video to show what it is doing now:
Can't post video until I've posted more, SORRY!
I appreciate it you are able to help. I know this isn't a big thing, but it's enough to be annoying.
Thanks!
it is making a black screen because it closes the launcher. Since you are rooted you could reinstall the launcher as a system app which wont be closed by the Close All button

Okay, made Nova a system app, still same problem . Now it's going to my Touchwiz App Drawer, not even the home page.... It's really confusing me.. Now I'm determined.
I had another thought, what if it isn't an app or app killing, rather an error on the "app" that runs the multitasking window. I'm going to Google it right now, to see if I can find it and if I can clear it's cache.
Thoughts?

Hey all,
Just got my new OnePlusX and the first time I turned it on it prompted all the set up screens. I had to skip through them all because the keyboard would not stay open. It would open and then immediately minimize. Not a great start but no problem, I'll add my accounts and connect to wifi later.
Once I get into the 'home screen' I could see my status bar at the top but no icons and no way to access the app draw. I pressed the capacitive buttons and opened the notification slider which both worked and eventually got into the play store. From here I installed an app or two and got prompted to do a system update, which I did.
After the update I was hoping my launcher would work.. it didn't. The home screen is a black screen with the status bar at the top and no icons - the home button seems to do nothing when I'm in an app and press it.
I installed a third party launcher which worked - I now have a home screen and app draw. However, after opening an app, it crashes after a second or two (chompSMS does this as well as messenger, phone and contacts which are stock apps).
Does anyone have any information about this, what can I do here?
I know one option might be flashing a custom rom but being a brand new phone that should most definitely not be something I have to do to be able to call and message people..
Update: I ran a factory reset and all problems seemed to be resolved now. Not sure what was going on but I guess something happened that a reboot couldn't fix. I'll leave this post in case it helps others.
Have you done a factory reset after the system update??
