[Q][DEV][SOLA] External USB Webcam - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi,
I'm trying to get a usb camera works on xperia sola. I started from the beginning (I'm not a modder) so for first downloaded and compiled ics kernel from source 6.1.1.B.1.54. Added UVC camera supports on menuconfig. several test several fail, but at the end I'm able to flash an boot my kernel. First problem is power consumption over usb OTG, got a usb powered hub, gone. Now I've 3 UVC webcam Microsoft HD-3000, Logitech C270 and an Acer Crystal Eye from a notebook with soldered usb cables. All cameras works on linux and on windows and also are listed on uvc compliant list.
I can't get working Anyone can help me? Anyone done some similar work? I missed some step?
Thanks a lot

Micro usb audio connector

Is it possible to use the micro USB audio connector for audio? After rooting, the audio application of the android does not recognize the mp3 files to play. Why not let it do so?
I think that would require USB host mode like on the Samsung galaxy. I think that means needing extra hardware doesn't it? -otherwise I would expect every phone to be capable of it
edit: It is possible but you can fry stuff. Info on NookColor forum
USB host = great possible enhancement?
I wanted to post to proper thread, however I am new here I was not allowed to post on developers forum. So I hope that this post will still somehow find its way there. It also includes your original question.
Since some USB features are now claimed to be working, I wanted to ask directly poping out questions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21669750
Is it possible to...
1.) disable on-screen keyboard while using USB one?
2.) connect USB soundcard like: http://www.usbgear.com/computer_cable_details.cfm?sku=USBG-X2X&cats=121&catid=121%2C136%2C134
To allow listening mp3, Skype calls.... ?
3.) connect USB Ethernet card like: http://www.usbgear.com/205528.html
4.) to connect other cool usb stuff like: GSM, printers ... whatever
thanks you developer guys, I hope I'll once manage some time to learn more about the system and developement so that I could contribute too !
thanks to androind and nook simple touch creators!

Currently the answer to all of the above is no
The USB host mode patch was done for a specific project (USB keyboard support) and while I have been spending some time playing around with Bluetooth I'm not aware of any other dev(s) working on expanding this atm.
Stuff like audio, networking and Bluetooth requires _a_lot_ more than just the kernel accepting to communicate with the device.
thats shame. allowed skype calls would be great
Skype calls are working on my nook with OTG + USB audio card on usb host mode. But it is a bit difficult ))).
To update these older posts:
Yes, it is possible to disable the soft keyboard when using a USB keyboard.
See NullKbd in the signature.
Yes, Skype works fine.

Where is the difficulty?
Do a logcat and look for overruns and errors.
There were a few mods done to make Skype work.
so an external usb sound card is working?
Yes, an external USB audio adapter can work.
As a portable solution it's a bit cumbersome.
I don't know what current they usually draw, but my cheapy one draws 75 mA.
A desktop solution with powered hub (charging the Nook), a USB adapter and speakers works fine.
Would USB headphones work directly on that port? I have USB OTG cable and some USB sound card somewhere so I can check with regular 3.5mm jack headphones without trouble when I find some time to do it but I just wonder if anyone tried USB headphones on it and what they think of it. Is it worth of a hassle to buy one for NST?
Some USB devices use a multiplexor on the USB micro connector and can send actual analog audio down the connector.
Many Androids support USB host mode and can support an audio USB adapter, including the ones that go for < $10.
The NST (earlier Nooks with OMAP processors) don't have complete software support for USB host mode but can be coerced into working.
The Glows (later Nooks with IMX processor) don't have complete software or hardware support for USB host mode but can be coerced into working.
The Glow4 (7.8") has audio.

Working host USB devices?

Hi all. Just wanted to know what external devices people have got to work on their Mini Pro's through a USB host cable.
I'm running the bog standard Sony ICS ROM 4.0.4 (Build number 4.1.B.0.431)
So far I have got the following working:
Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse - P/N:831383-0000
Apple Wired Optical Mouse - M/N:M5769
Dell Wired Keyboard - Model:RT7D50
What doesn't work:
Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 - P/N:X802611-008
Freecom 32GB USB Databar
Integral 16GB USB Data stick
SmartDisk USB floppy disk drive - Model:FDUSB-TM2
Gemplus Smartcard reader - P/N:HWP108760 B
ADMtekUSB 2 Ethernet - M/N:UE-120
It would be good to get a full listing, and if any coders are able to get some of the non-working devices to work would be great.

If you have a stock Xperia ICS firmware your mobile phone will not work as USB host.
It will work as USB host if you rooted it, and have installed the required kernel modules and you use the USB OTG Helper app (you can find modules in the second post of USB OTG Helper thread).
If you already have the modules and the helper, it's sad to hear that no storage device you tested is working

[Q] MK809III TV Stick and usb hub

Hi all, I have a MK809III tv stick with Android 4.4.2 running. I use it as a mini PC with a LCD screen. I have attached to its USB OTG ports a quadrate 2.0 4 ports USB HUB (google for this and you can see it) , and connected to it, a PS/2 keyboard (using an usbtoPs2 adapter), an usb mouse, a usb ethernet dongle, and a usb sound card dongle. When I use this combo, all works fine, the mouse can drag and select, also wheel works, the keyboard works fine, the ethernet run smooth, and the sound works as player and mic recorder, the only thing not works is to reboot the tv stick, and launch android again (with other MK89III tv stick this also works flawlessly), to get this, I must to unplug RJ45 or usb ethernet. But this last question is not my main problem. The main problem is that I can not make the combo work anyway if I change usb hub model, If I use a 2.0 usb square hub (no name brand) with a little blue led installed, all works fine, but using other hub (I have tested two others), thare is no way to work. The main situation is that the hub stops work, and all item connected not works at all. But commonly, mouse works with a bad behaviour in button response, usb sound disconnects suddenly, or usb ethernet lagg or not works at all. My question is about this behaviour with usb hubs, if there is a special requirements in hardware to match an usb hub with this kind of android devices, or if thare are some drivers that can solve this.
Thank in advance.
Solved
I have solved the two main problems in order to use my MK809III RK3188 as a mini pc with usb hub and rj45 ethernet. The hub must to be a chip on board one, no an all-in-one glued ultra-cheap type, this is a mark of better quality and response, then you can conect keyboard/mouse, usb or ps2 with usb converters, usb sound, and usb pendrives. The ethernet must be an ASIX AX88772C, this a true usb ethernet 100mbps (7MB/s real) device, since I use it there is no lag, no boot errors, no delays or shorts in Tx/Rx. That´s all.

USB OTG not working, why?

I'm trying to connect a camera to get the files off it but my phone doesn't allow me so to select anything else but the charging of the connected device option (the camera doesn't even supports USB charging)? How can I fix that?
if you want to see if USB OTG works, you could try a normal USB memory stick before to try the camera
if the stick works, the problem is the camera
Well a mouse works fine..and the camera does work with Android 8 Devices. So no.
