[Q] Droid X2 outside of US - Motorola Droid X2

Hi
A relative is going to US this week and I'm thinking of buying this model on ebay to deliver at his hotel.
The droid x2 seems to have good specs and a low price($98 on ebay). I'm not looking for the latest or most powerful hardware(my last phone was a sony xperia x8 until last month because I jumped into water with it). This one seems to have the best cost x benefit for me
I have the following questions before I decide to buy it:
- Does this phone works with gsm networks outside US? I'm interested in using it on brazil.
- Are there good/fast roms that work with it? I care mostly for speed and working features such as camera.
I was considering the droid 3 because it has a phyical keyboard(which is a big plus for me) but I've read that there are no roms that have the camera working(which is blocking because I most certainly would like to use its 8mp camera). I would also appreciate suggestions of alternatives with similar price/hardware.
Thanks

the droid x2 is cdma only, try the d3.

Leaving Photon for Razr

Hello guys, i want your opinion about this. I have a Photon 4g that i buy from ebay - i am in Europe . The phone its great but i like to trick it with roms and stuff so my greatest concern is that there is not Warranty coverage in EU (i bricked it once so i have to send to some friends in USA - it took 3 months to take it back)
So i was thinking to sell it and put some more money (not very much) and to buy the Razr xt910 (EU warranty, Amoled, ICS ect) .
My problem is that when i go to one store to compare them i saw that the Razr is not better than Photon - but not at all !
So i want your opinion on this issue, what to do ?
Thank you, Johnny !

I made that exact switch 4 or so months ago. The razr maxx is much better phone, but still holds the typical motor quality pieces like: top notch radio/cell quality and build construction.
However, if rom tweaking is important the same I would look at a different phone, and as the razr does not have a ton of development with the bootloader being locked. But in my opinion, it is the best out of the box android I have ever had, and so development is not a necessity.

If you really want to enjoy flashing rom, kernel and other mod i think you should see other companies. Motorola have the locked bootloader and therefore there are less people willing to spend their time on development.
You should check htc or samsung that have a large community behind their phone
I too switched from the Photon to the RAZR in November, and have to agree with the posts above me... They are similarly awesome for phones, but not great for tweaking. There are multiple sites with roms, though. Google RAZR rom to see some of them, then decide.
droidrzr.com has some pretty good work done outside of our dedicated devs here (some are on both).
My tab's Flyer than yours (unless this is posted in a Flyer thread, then it's just as Flyer...)!

Do you have lte? If yes, I'd jump on Razr in a heartbeat. Razr Maxx will give you excellent battery life. Worth looking into.

Buying Droid Razr, need help!

Hey guys, I am a Nexus S 4G user looking to buy a new (used) phone. I've been researching phones for about a month now, and it eventually came down to the Droid RAZR and the HTC EVO 4G LTE/HTC ONE X. I've decided to go with the RAZR simply because I'm really liking the slimness of it. Now I'm here to ask you guys what issues do I need to know about the RAZR and what should I be wary of when buying it. Also, if there are any ex-Nexus S users in the RAZR community, could you please let me know what you found lacking in the phone compared to the Nexus S? As far as I can see, NFC is the only let down, but I only used it once or twice. Thanks in advance!:good:
Edit: Sorry, just realized I posted in the wrong section. Please forgive my noon self, and move this to the Q&A mods please?

Since you are coming from the nexus s, if you are used to flash roms kernel etc, forget them. The razr have a lockedbootloader and few dev so is a bit a let down from this point of view.
If you don't care about modding then is a really good phone, is slim, very well build with a good reception. Someone say that the wifi is not that great i find it normal. The camera is not as good as many other phone.
Compared to the newest phone (like the htc one x or the galaxy s3) is slower but if you don't play game is still a fast phone.
So to sum up, if you can find it at a good price then is worth buying it (considering it you don't care modding, if you are buying android for modding then i suggest you to forget motorola)

Ow, is it really that bad? I feel so stupid now for not checking the development for the RAZR. Guess I'm just a spoiled Nexus user When you say the camera isn't as good as some phones, how would you compare it to baseline phones such as the iPhone 4S and Galaxy Nexus/S2? Also if you've had any experience with the Nexus S camera, can you please tell me how the RAZR's camera compares to that? Thank you soo much for the help especially for warning me about the boot loader issue though! :banghead:

I guess u are seing reviews when RAZR had GB? They have improved the camera a lot with ICS update imo
There IS development for the RAZR. Yes, it doesn't have an unlocked bootloader, but KEXEC is in development which will allow loading of new kernels. Currently, it's main issue is that CPU1 stays offline for some reason when booting up modified kernels.
Otherwise, there is a pretty good development community out there. CM9 is out for the RAZR as is MIUI. There are other ROMs as well. Again, it's not like the Galaxy which has an unlocked bootloader, but quality-wise, the phone is awesome. Excellent radios, fast and responsive and just thin like a razor!
If you can, you might want to look at getting the RAZR MAXX. Much better battery life than the Original (OG) RAZR. I have the OG RAZR and I can get pretty good battery life IF I don't play games. But, with some tweaking, I've been able to keep it going all day at work if I limit my use to texting, checking emails and some web surfing.
I suggest you spent a little more to get a Maxx. The extra battery really worth it because LTE is much, much more power hungry than 3G. Here in NJ I saw several listing for Maxx asking 350, and Razr for 275.
Sent from my DROID RAZR Maxx using xda app-developers app
Thank you guys for the help! I'll definitely take the MAXX into consideration as battery life is a big point for me. As for the lack of development on the RAZR, I'll keep my Nexus around as a backup phone in case the development gets too slow.
By the way, does the RAZR/MAXX have any known defects or issues that I should check out when buying used?
Thanks again for all the help!

very easy, check out the development section
The RAZR camera isn't that good. It comes out blurry sometimes. Pictures only come out decent in sunlight. And from time to time I experience lag. It's very annoying.
But going to a Motorola I knew I was sacrificing things. Now I got a reliable wireless radio phone and great battery in the RAZR Maxx and ICS, closest to stock ICS that isn't a google phone or a custom rom!
I had a Galaxy S2 on Sprint before this phone. That phone's camera kills the RAZR in video recording and taking still pictures. And I never EVER had lag on the GS2. My big beef with that phone was it had the worst wireless radio on it combined with Sprint's network, sucks.

Anybody thinking of getting the Note 2 or Maxx HD?

Is anybody thinking of making the switch from their current RAZR/RAZR Maxx?
I don't even see why they made the RAZR HD, it only makes sense to get the Maxx HD in my opinion.
Much as I love the improvements on the new RAZR phones I don't know if the changes are significant enough for me to change phones.
The Galaxy Note 2 looks like a beast, only thing for me is that I don't know how comfortable it will be in my pocket. I've held the first NOTE, although it is huge I can still hold it and use it decent. Just carrying it around seems like a hassle.
I have an AT&T upgrade sitting there and am eyeing the Note 2...but my GSM MAXX + Nexus 7 works fine as-is. Also, the Lumia 920 looks interesting.
Whatever gets my upgrade will be the best possible device out there. We shall see.
Going to look at buying the galaxy note 2, unless rumors start to drop about a nexus device from moto/google.that has as good as specs as gn2.

I am hoping we'll see the next Google phone made by more than one manufacturer. I would definitely look at the Motorola one if the specs were right.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Verizon didn't get the next google phone since big red is totally against development and locking boot loaders. Android is Open Source, it's suppose to be developed on!! Now Verizon needs to approve android updates too? That's bull crap.
I have been in love with the note ever since it was announced.
This Motorola has the best reception and GPS of any phone I have had though so the new RAZR hd maxx is in the running too.
I exercise with my phone so something too big might not work that well.
I don't think a computer would be necessary after the note though.

If it's because of the locked boot loaders, Verizon is locking down Samsung phone's too. Probably all their Android phones now. For me, Motorola has it's pros and cons. I mainly chose my Maxx for the wireless radio and battery life. But I do miss the Samsung camera on the last phone I had. And Samsung software is smoother too.

$100 Credit for Upgrade (For Everyone)

https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/ci/documents/detail/2/motorola-jelly-bean-rebate_en-US
Basically, if Motorola doesn't upgrade your 2011 Motorola smartphone to Jelly Bean they will (most likely) give you a $100 credit towards a new phone. Limited details right now but I signed up for alerts. Rumors are X2 will be one of these phones.
So if you are looking to a new phone I would wait a few weeks. I'm probably going to be switching to the Razr Maxx HD (complicated name!) when it comes out and a $100 credit would be amazing!
Opinions? Anyone still use an X2 besides me?
I'm not so sure if it would be worth it. You need to trade in your old phone and the x2 is selling for at least 100 on swappa and other sites so why not choose cash over a gift card?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
It's tempting...the $100 plus I do like how strong the build quality of this motorola phone is and the razr's do seem pretty tough as well, but I will probably pass and get something like a samsung note 2 or an htc incredible x that does/will have an unlocked bootloader. Plus I dont want to trade in my X2...rather keep it as a backup or wifi device that my kid can play on.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda app-developers app
We're definitely not getting JB. $100 is nice, but it's probably towards only moto devices. Which is fine. Razr HD for me when my upgrade is active.

Your upgrade should bring it down to $200, plus the $100 off. And since you have moto now, they should honor it well into next year. My upgrade is in March, but I might swing in around January and see if I can get it a month or two early.
Definitely sticking with moto. I've had numerous Samsung devices that I've needed to have replaced. Not a single problem with my DX2, and it takes a serious beating. Moto definitely makes the best physical handsets, period.

Moving on from the RAZR

After a year and then some, I'm signing off on the RAZR. I just got the Sony xperia zr. The battery is not a patch on the maxx but I needed a phone that was faster and the RAZR was just getting a little too slow.
So with a heavy heart, I move on. If anybody in India wants to buy a rooted RAZR maxx that's a little bruised, hit me up in a pm. Otherwise, I wish everyone here the best. I'm sure I'll be back if and when Motorola decides to reenter the Indian market.
Till then, it is adios from me on this forum. It's been an awesome run and I learnt so much in the past year from the awesome devs here. Wish you guys the best.
Cheers,

awesome news, hope they launch world phones in india
there is a dearth of cdma phones with no telecom company or handset manufacturer offering goods handsets for the cdma crowd.
Being camped for new phone for 8 months, i'm waiting for motorola just because i want my phone to be a motorola that's why i am still sporting with my trusty Razr. I recently changed the battery and i have a RAZR MAXX now, it is a different experience.I easily get 2 days even if i play games for hours, watch videos and 3g browsing. Have no fear of empty battery. It is a good reason for me to stay with it until new motorola line up appears.
I even just bought a new Droid Razr white for my wife. So,I use her Droid Razr Maxx now. It's a 'lil bit slow but it's still acceptable for daily use and it's a 2011 lineup so I don't complain much about it. I love its build quality and design. It's still the lovable design android phones for me. If you got a new phone, don't sell it. Keep it always coz its design is the best around.

Yeah just got ahold of a brand new white razr myself. Sure you could say it's a little bit dated from a hardware standpoint, but damn right it's still able to hold its own against the competition, I'm saying this coming from several iphones - not that these are references either but I'm enjoying my razr so far. And yeah it absolutely blows in white. Would have loved to get the battery longevity of the Maxx but aside from the battery, both phones are exactly the same and it did not justify the steep extra cost for me.
I am moving on from RAzr as well, i am considering to go for xperia zl....

Yep. The battery in the maxx still brings me back to this forum. But I tried using it today and somehow it just doesn't appeal to me anymore.
The laggyness just kills the goodwill of the battery. But given that the Sony xperia zr doesn't have a forum on xda, I miss being part of the modding scene.
So expect me to pop up once in a while out here. And don't hold your breath on Motorola coming back to Asia. Still not on their radar apparently.
