I'm running the 2/3 build of CM nightlies and, ever since the 2/2 build, my network seems to constantly be on Digital Roaming even when I know I'm in an area with service. I also have roaming off and set to "Home only" in my settings. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

In the same boat as OP. Already tried updating the PRL and profile, disabling roaming data, changing to Home Only, disabling LTE, setting the PRL to LTE/CDMA auto, and forcing it onto the PCS 1900MHz band, but it's staying on roaming.
The odd thing is, it's only roaming on data and not voice/SMS service, according to the info in the Testing menu, and it's only roaming on CM11 (it was fine when I restored my backup of stock to update the PRL and profile). Haven't been able to come up with a solution, anyone find something that works? I'm hesitant to call Sprint considering it's fine on stock.
I'm having the same issue. I saw this on an alpha build of Pacrom. After an extensive night of testing and testing, the conclusion is the phone SAYS it's roaming but in actuality it is not. You are on Sprint's network. You can test the same way I did. Open your sprint data summary and record your used data. Now download an app, say maybe 5 mb on the "roaming." Wait half an hour and then refresh your data summary page. You will see am increase in used data, not in roaming data. So there's simply something wrong with the phone which is causing it to believe it roams when it is not.

My service is notably different though: less reliable, slower, occasionally giving false positives about data connectivity, unable to tether. I've confirmed this by flashing a Sense-based backup, it's definitely the ROM, not my service or phone. The 2/5 build hasn't fixed it, either. I'm going to try and flash it back to the 2/1 build, but is there any reason why this could be?
This came to mind when I saw this thread.. Apparently it's known and only cosmetic.

Sure, I've been doing the custom ROM thing for a couple years, jumped off Sense as soon as I got this phone on release, I'm well aware of differences in service. But there's a difference between "shaky/rocky service" and "basically non-existent service", even compared to the CM11 nightly a couple days ago. I have to wait a couple minutes to just load google.com in the browser, it's ridiculous.
I see.. that one is a problem. I hope you get it resolved.

It might be an issue with that specific build

I am in a known roaming area right now and I am showing 3g now. So maybe things are just switched up idk......

Seems some Photons are finding a 3G Speed increase by a simple adjustment of settings...
I have tested this, and found it to work for me...however, NOT everyone is reporting a similar experience. So, give it a shot...and report your findings here for analysis. (My guess for the reasoning in different experiences would relate to tower proximity, etc)
The "Fix" is simple...
1. Head to "Wireless & Networks" in Settings Menu.
2. Go to "Mobile Networks"
3. Change "Network Mode" from "Any CDMA" to "Automatic"
4. Reboot
5. Test!!

No, I don't believe it's using GSM...or roaming. I'm not positive, but I plan on calling Sprint come Monday and asking what the feature does. There is NO warning prompt indicating that you will be roaming...so I doubt they could force roaming charges on anyone.
Just gave it a try. 1.84Mbps for 3G before and after but 4G dropped fro, 4.53 down to just 0.55 in Automatic. Returning to "Any CDMA" brought it back up.
I did this fix and it did work, but I have found that in my area, due to population, that my speeds can barely break 600k, but when I ran out to a few other remote locals I was pulling 1.6m+. So this clearly works and I love the speeds in the remote area, but the area I live and work in really suck.

nope its still cdma, just grabbing the strongest signal instead of focusing on a Sprint signal. Should not effect you roaming charges at all
I noticed another positive side effect of this. Way faster connecting speed. It would take forever to even start loading a page on any cdma and now it starts instantly.

You Guys Might want to Try Removing the Sprint Proxys. My coworker was unable to stream pandora, and had a general overall slowness of web browsing. We did the following.
1. Get MSL Code
2. Dial ##data# in the phone
3. Go into mulitmedia
4. We upped the buffer to 10
5. Set the ports to 0
6. Set the addresses to 0.0.0.0
Rebooted and all his streaming issues were resolved adn market and web seemed to load faster (he has been struggling with streaming issues for over a week)
ok so could this be too good to be true?
seems like there must be some downside.. are we more likely to drop connections if we're constantly hopping networks?

Hmmm... didnt work for me. First two download passes were 1.1m them 900k. Changed the setting to automatic and got 172k and 200k. I'll set back to any CDMA and try again in the morning at work.
Thx
The first method doubled my speeds and gave me 25% of the ping.
removing proxys solved my shoutcast radio streaming problem
Thanks for the tip. Increased from 1.3mbps/384kbps to 1.8-1.9mbps/600-800kbps

We rooted my wife's Eris several weeks back with the above mentioned ROM and it works great around here where we have good Verizon coverage. The issue is that when we travel to areas that don't have great native Verizon coverage, she loses her 3G altogether now and can't do anything using data. Text and calls still work, just not data. It worked prior to rooting it in these same areas.
Any suggestions or settings to check? Thanks in advance!
My first thought is that you have the wrong version of GSB, 3.9 was skipped.
There are known issues with Gingerbread dropping 3G. I recommend searching the boards.
I'm on 3.9 right now

Yes, 3.9 is what it says in the Mod version on the phone, so unless that was screwed up it is version 3.9 as far as I can tell.
I have not tried the airplane mode trick as I read about it last night and we are headed up there today for a reunion so I can give it a try. I've not been with my wife the last few times she's been in the area to where this happens so not sure what all she has done to try and fix it. Pretty sure she did restart the phone though with no luck but we'll see.

Version 3.9 was skipped. You might want to try a newer version. Not sure where you got 3.9 but based on the above post from workshed 3.9 DOES NOT exist.

Forgot to update this thread...so we were in the area where 3G coverage drops for the wife on Sunday. I took a look at her phone and it mentioned something about International service or some such so I went into her Wireless/Networks under Settings and there was a check box for "International Roaming" so I checked it and it worked just fine!
She just never clicked it because, well, North Carolina isn't so much International! haha
I was having issues with that same version of GSB. Try updating to the latest version of GSB. That fixed my issue at least.

Personally, I don't ever turn off LTE considering that the way it's supposed to work is that while in a non LTE market, it defaults to HSPA+ anyway. And I've read that the lack of LTE doesn't interfere with battery life. Maybe I'll try for a day and see.

Yeah mine does drop to hspa inside some buildings but LTE blankets my entire county and surrounding ones. Basically I was just curious if forcing it to use hspa would conserve battery (in theory, it should). I'm surprised there aren't more threads addressing this.

I'd like to figure this out too. I was using my Note with my old S2 sim card for a couple months (bought the Note used), and didn't know there was an upgraded SIM card for LTE users. Since upgrading to the LTE Sim chip, my signal bars are around 50% signal strength and I think it is the culprit to draining my battery so quickly. When I used the HSPA+ chip I always had full signal strength.
Are there any mods anyone knows of or ways to update any custom rom? I'm currently trying out the BlackStar ICS Rom.
Thanks!
Canadian ROMs have the Network Mode menu in settings. I don't believe it comes from the Radio so it must come from the settings.apk. Here is the settings.apk from the Rogers ICS ROM and it is already deodexed. Do a nand backup. Then copy this file to your system/app folder overwriting the one included in the ROM. Fix permissions and reboot your phone. You should then have the Network Mode menu in your settings. Let me know if it works.
I'm pulling the trigger now. . .
I'll let you know infive if it worked, ten if it didn't.
This could be GREAT!

Please do. I suspected this would work for some time now. When I installed the KOB4LT mod awhile back it installed the settings.apk from the GSII and it worked fine except there was no settings for the s-pen. Should work on any of the ICS NOTE stock deodexed ROMs. And if your stock ROM is not deodexed just delete or rename both the settings.apk and the settings.odex too
This would be interesting. Definitely helpful since so many reviews said LTE kills battery faster than 3G.
This is why I went with the Rogers stock ROM instead of the ATT version. Network Mode, HotSpot allowed, and no carrier ID on notification bar.
Daaarn!

turn off lte att note
i came across this thread as im looking for a desktop widget to turn lte off on my att note 3.
theres a few reasons for this. I hadnt thought about battery life until i read this but it cant help but increase battery life. this is because lte and hsm are two different radios. the gsm will always be on to controll the phone and sms functions and i believe the mms functions.
but simply here in the bay are most areas hspap seems to be faster.
lte upload is always faster and it penetrates buildings better. but i switch back and forth and do tests all the time.
this is a very urban area and hspap seems to have 5 bars a lot more than lte.
7.1
ill do a random test for you from where im typing this.
hspap 7.13 down 1.10 up. 5 bars. lte 4.12 down 3.76 up. 3 bars.
and as soon as i get to two bars lte seems to throttle below 1 down and stays at 3 up.
whereas hspap never goes below 6 down until its lost reception.
so anyhow i switch between the two without a rom by doing this
*#*#4636#*#*
device then i change the radio from lte/gsm auto to gsm auto.
that works immediately
now all that im lacking is a simpler one click way to change the setting.
So i recently got my S2 a few weeks back. before this had.an Optimus One.
I put my hutch sim in this one and for the past 1 week my bars keep fluctuating between 0 to 4.
Now i am on vodafone and my entire family uses the same.
Neither of them have a problem.
Also I never had a problem on my P500.
Also recently I had received an OTA of about 20mb, still on ICS though.
After that update I have been getting random freezes, cant change lockscreen wallpaper, not even with quickpic. TwWallpaper keeps crashing and this signal trouble.
Adding a few screens.
Taken on the same spot. Also right now my sister is getting constant full bars!

So i was wondering what should I do?
1. Replace my sim?
2. Visit a service center?
3. Rollback the update, if yes, how?
Also I'm on Stock, non-rooted. ICS 4.0.4.
SGS2, send this you must!
Given it's a new phone, your problems have been caused by a carrier pushed update & your warranty is still good, the 2nd option (tho if it were me I'd probably mess with it anyways because I don't really care about warranties).
Re: S2 Network/Update issues.
So most probably its a software issue?
If so I guess I have my reason to root and install a recovery coz even I couldn't care less about warranties..
one thing though, like my P500, once rooted, the root can be reversed as well, right?
Also is there any way without root to rollback this update?

Re: S2 Network/Update issues.
Hey vj the signal drop problem is a common issue on Vodafone network if you want you can try to change your s2 modem to see if will gonna improve your signal .
Use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656005
Or you can try to root your phone using this method that I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Then you can try another Rom

I switched to GSM only since 3G plans are way expensive here anyways, also since I'm on wifi usually.
And haven't seen a drop since then, hope it stays so!
Also network issue aside I sometimes find the metal around the camera getting hot while gaming for more than 30-40 minutes.
Is it normal or should I go ahead and flash that modem, since it boasts of nominal temperatures at all uses?
And OT, are you also an ex-P500 user? I seem to remember you seeing around on xda. And I have been on OT & P500 forums only prior to SGS2
that heat is a normal effect for our s2 when we play a game or a movie and if you gonna flash that modem your phone signal will gonna increase and the heat will lower (tested by me)
OT : yes i'm an ex p500 user you'll gonna see some work for it in my signature and an rom port (not in my sig )
Hi all,
I am currently using AntonX's unofficial CM11 for the P769, and its great except that like CM10.2 seems to be broken. In CM10.1 it worked perfectly and same with the stock ROM as well. So I decided to pull a few files from the stock Jellybean ROM and create a flashable zip that installs the old files that have to do with GPS. It seems to work pretty well as I was able to get a pretty good fix from a cold start in less than a minute using device only location settings, but it doesn't seem to work nearly as well as CM10.1 and stock. Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this problem (I have already tried using different gps.conf files to no avail)?
Attached below is a screenshot of my latest GPS fix in less than a minute and the flashable zip that I created.
Thanks!

I think your files are the same as the ones already in the ROM.
What's wrong with GPS in CM10.2 or CM11 anyway? It never fails me, I always get a fix within a minute, even on a cold start.
As far as I remember GPS in CM10.1 was a little strange. I think I noticed that sometimes GPSTest was showing yellow bars but accuracy was in hundreds of feet, which actually indicated not a good lock. I may be wrong though, been a while.
Still a Problem

Yeah I think you're right that they're the same files because I was testing GPS again today and it would lock for maybe a second and then if I even moved, it would instantly drop. But this problem is definitely here because on CM10.1 and stock I would instantly have about 13-14 satellites in view, and be able to lock to about 7-9 of them in seconds, whereas now it takes about 1-2 minutes to get 10-12 satellites in view and lock to just five which instantly lose lock when the device is moved about 10ft. This is using the device only method of getting GPS so there is no use of wifi or cell signals to get the location because I have very spotty coverage. I just wanted to point this problem out as I've noticed it on other ROMs too such as BobZHome's CM11.0 and leolawliet's PenberRom5 which is also based on 10.2. Other than this little problem the ROM has been great and I thank you for your work AntonX!
On my P778g, i also noticed a diference between CM10.1.3 and CM10.2/CM11. But after some testing comparing to stock (my father has another p778 with stock rom) i discovered that the only diference is the signal strength: Under a clear sky the GPS works exactly the same but inside a house the roof is too much and the signal seems to be too weak, so it takes a lot more time to fix compared to stock. Keeping in mind that i never use the GPS inside my house this is not a big deal after all. I bet that no one is testing the GPS outside... try it.
If it wasn't winter and I paid my phone bill I'd be happy to go out now and test the GPS on my p769. I'm running omnirom tho, and I don't think it's cm based so I could have different results.
I'll post back here when I get a chance. By the way, the GPS on AOKP wasn't any better.
