Hello all ,
Recently I purchased an unbranded Chinese Tablet with Tegra2 chip which is running Android 2.2 At the moment.
I have found out there is no Software lock nor restrictions on changing the ROM on this tablet. So I would like to put a custom ROM on it if possible.
I have two questions :
1- Is there any system requirements I should be aware before putting any custom ROM on my device? for example any specific PBC board/chipset or other component?
2- What is the best custom Adnroid 3 series ROM ( with the most stability and functionality ) which is designed for Tegra2 chipset?
Please go easy on me as I am new and would like to expand my knowledge with productive help of people here
Thanks
If you run an Android 2.2- 2.3 then there's certainly no. At least none with more then a tegra2. I think you could simply run like all ROMs.
Because I am looking for ROMs also, I think I saw something interesting.
But is your tablet copied? Just, tge chinese made it cheaper?
Then you should search on that tablet on XDA
Regards

Yea the tablet is copied from other ones , obviously does not have the same specification hence the cheap price. And it has only 512MB RAM which is not a problem for me as I am not a gamer.
But I am sure some ROMs work with certain hardware and setup better than others.
I have to get more hardware detail when I have the tablet in hand.
However I prefer to have more information first. So any help and suggestion is appreciated.
I'm specifically looking for android 3.0 and newer version which is compatible with the device
** Any assistance? ***
Sorry for late reply...
I am really sorry, but I have no experience with tablets and Chinese tablets. I am sorry.
But if you flash recovery with ROM manager nothing can go wrong because you can always go back!

Whenever you post something like this, you are supposed to post a link to the information or else it will be considered as not true or some rumor (with no real evidence).
really ? i can not wait for some working port to try.
Hi,
first of all i want to say that this thread is in no way meant to offend or me being impatient about anything. I am just asking the question to know the answer.
I noticed, that many dev´s for the SGS2 (such as codeworkx and others) have big/giant trouble to bring a new Version to our Phones.
The problems seem to be that big that they have to wait for a Kernel from Samsung to make it even work a bit.
From my other/previous Phone, the HTC Dream i know that there weren´t such big problems.
It got 4 perfectly stable main iterations (2.0 2.1 2.2 2.3) of Android after its updates were discontinued and it already has a 4.0 version that has only 2 issues left to fix. All that without a kernel beeing released from HTC for the specific OS version. (i remember that the Camera drivers for 2.x were completely created from scratch to make it work [or so] )
My question is:
Why is it so much easier/less complicated to make a total new version run on the HTC Dream than on the SGS2? without the help of the manufactor
I'm not sure but I think its because other phones get source code releases for all the hardware or at least most of it to make porting/dev easier. Whereas Samsung hasn't released source for all the hardware in the sgs2 because of contractual obligations/restrictions from other hardware vendors that provide some the chips inside...
I also believe Samsung has modified Android quite heavily and badly in their quest to have the touchwiz interface, which also makes things difficult to reverse engineer etc...
I don't its anything actually difficult about the actual hardware itself

Guys, I'm working on developing an AOSP ROM. I need your help in choosing a phone I can use for the testing. I was thinking of starting with a cheap Samsung Galaxy series phone since they have dual bootloaders (boot.bin and sbl.bin). Better safe than sorry, right? My work partner suggested we start off with a Vanilla Android phone, like an old LG. Can you guys recommend me one to proceed with? Is there a phone out there with Vanilla Google Android and possibly two bootloaders ?
Anyone?
c'mon guys !!
Most developers like the Nexus series phones since they are easy to unlock the bootloader and have a lot of other devs.
Thank you for replying But is the Samsung Galaxy series the only one in the Android universe with dual bootloaders?
Also, what phones run on Vanilla Android other than the Google Nexus series? I take it the old LGs do? If so, which ones?
Someone, please respond...
bump!
Someone please provide some input on this..
I REALLY gotta know this at the earliest so I can acquire the phone. Someone, please help out !!
not sure if this helps but the pantech burst is getting the ICS update shortly (they have it ready just having server issues trying to get it out today) its a cheep but badass att lte phone
I don't live in the USA. I need something available internationally. Also, it needs Vanilla Android. Is Google Nexus my only chance?

If your serious about development and testing pure vanilla Android is the way to go and the Google's Nexus line of phones and tablet it the way to go. You can easily compile AOSP for these devices, easily unlock the bootloader and root to flash custom ROM's. Also kernel sources are easily available, along with other great resources that will allow you to learn a lot about development.

That's EXACTLY what I needed to hear! Thank you so much for your time! Considering I'll start with JB, is it necessary to acquire the latest Nexus available, or will any older variant do?

I wouldn't go any lower then the nexus s, since that's the oldest pure Google device that officially supports compiling AOSP JB from source. Personally I'd pick up the galaxy nexus if you want something right now. If you can wait until around November (November 5th) it's rumored Google is launching several (Supposedly five new nexus devices) new nexus devices to celebrate androids 5th birthday

Good to know Guess I'll be picking up the Galaxy Nexus then!
I got a Project Tango tablet from work, it has k1 tegra chipset and it is stuck on original firmware, which is android 4.4.4 and doesnt performs very well on normal tasks as far as it is very powerfull hardware. Any chance I can upgrade it with custom firmware? Maybe shield tablet which has similar hardware without the special sensors?
Last time I had the tango (back in July 2016) there were no custom firmware/rom for it. I would check out the Tango Devs group on G+ to see if anyone has created an update for it.
Any news about this? Any help would be much appreciated.

First off you are going to need root the device. Then a custom recovery. Then you can think of customs ROMS if you can work out the hardware and the appropriate drivers.
Just because it has the same processor as the Shield does not mean that all the other hardware is the same.

Thanks, the process is crystal clear, I just wanted to know if anybody already advanced anything in this device, but it feels as there is no progress at all, so It will be worth to sell this nearly new tablet and buy another device with more community working with it. A shame, with 128Gb emmc, 4Gb RAM and a powerfull processor...
It would be great if we could get any assistance from Google on this, I highly am doubtful they will release kernels but it is worth trying to petition them to release them, or anything of value towards this, to the community. The hardware is excellent on the tango Dev tablet, but at this point the software is absimal, and, as is, barely functions. I find most software cannot run and constant glitches make using it worse than a contemporary generic device despite an excellent touchscreen and the tegra processor.
I have rooted my Tango tablet, but what hopes do we have of a community rom running any newer version of Android? (5.1+) The shield tablet has similar hardware and could maybe be used as a base to develop from, as the basic kernel will be similar. anyone determine what wifi/Bluetooth hardware is on board the tango?
Come on Google, help us get full functionality and release the kernels!
Is there any one behind this project?

if you want the development of the kernel at least started, make the kernel start logs. use the program syslog from Google Play for example.
I completely forgot that I found and downloaded the source code of the kernel on this tablet. The kernel is there version 3.10.24. With a strong desire, it could easily be adapted to the modern kernel 3.10.96.
I have the possibility of getting this tablet sub $100 and would be extremely interested if a newer Android could be loaded here. Or even maybe something like UBports (formerly Ubuntu Touch)

They have been with me for so long that I don’t remember exactly where I downloaded them from. I remember that it was some kind of official site about the project of tango.

So you don't know exactly if these were the most recent version of the source?
If these are not the latest, it's better than nothing. I'm going to share these with that other guy and on reddit. Thank you for uploading these.
For anyone following this, the latest kernel appears to be here https://github.com/r3pwn/android_kernel_google_yellowstone
Hi guys, orginal Android 4.4 is still the latest Rom available, correct ?
HI.. I need the ROM stock for this device, Someone?
Hi again.. I found this on github, someone know something about this project?
NVIDIA AOSP device tree for building Project Tango Android 7.0
https://github.com/Project-Google-Tango/android_device_google_yellowstone
Anonikat I looked at that too. How great would that be? A 7.0 N even if I'd loose some Tango functionality. I'd just like it as a regular tablet, personally.

Closest I've seen so far that seems functional for the most part is LineageOS 15.1 (Android 8.1) that's listed as an unofficial release in this forum.
Here is TWRP recovery project for this device https://forum.xda-developers.com/sh...overy-project-tango-k1-atap-twrp-3-2-t3901519
