[Q] I9100 AOSP NeatROM 2.5 Music Player Issues - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

About 1 month ago I flashed Sale's NeatRom v5.42 and the Apollo Regular Kernel . It was a great rom, mostly because of its smothness and the battry drain (it drains less than the half of my stock ROM I9100LSD). One week ago I thought "Why don't try KitKat?". So I flashed the latest AOSP NeatROM and the correct Apollo Kernel. I also like this ROM, but I have some issues considering music playing with my smartphone. I've tried three apps (Google PlayMusic, RocketPlayer and finally now Apollo), but they don't solve it.
Music playing drains a lot more batttery than before.
When acitivating the screen while listening to music, sometimes the sound stutters.
Randomly the music player app seems to hang when a new song starts. Only after a reboot can listen again to music.
The first two points are only peanuts, but the last point is really annoiying.
I assume the only way is reflashing a stock based ROM, isn't it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, the music player getting stuck is a known issue with KK roms for now, but its a random one.
U can try moving all ur music files on to ur Internal Sdcard (11.5gb one) and then try and also check the above with the stock kernel

Well, i have no external SD card (11,5 GB internal should be enough for my mp3's).
I've switch to the latest stock based NeatRom and stay there until this issue is resovled, but I miss the dashclock and DSP-Manager. Will this issue will be ever resolved? I cant't believe that bugs bugs are neglected in the develepment thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50067179&postcount=2379 ), but I'm now allowed to post there because of I've just registerd because of this issue. It would be great, if someone can make a statement that there are bugs. Either they should be fixed or the user should be informed that there are known issues with KitKat ROMs (that maybe cant't be resolved considering to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612329). I would suggest that a moderator make a sticky. I don't want to attack the developers for their hard and volenteer work, but make suggestions.
OT question: Is my assume right that stock based ROMs are the most reliable beacause they are best optimized for the hardware?
So enough questions and reproaches. I'm proud that so many developers care about our almost three years old device.

music stobes in/out in standby mode

I use Player Pro and Power AMP to play my music and whenever the phone goes in standby the music stutters. I bring the screen up and it plays flawlessly.
Running GeeWiz 2.1 w/KGB1127... also running an Audio manager...
I bumped up the profile in SetCPU from 400/100 to 800/100... and still stutters in standby.
This is with both headsets and Bluetooth setups.
Any ideas? thx
it also does this on CM 7.1 stable w/ Glitch v13 kernel...
anyone?
Well... just in case anyone is interested... I've managed to fix this... kinda.
I used SetCPU, and my screen off profile is 400/100 @ 1050mV
I bumped it up to 400/200
music plays almost flawlessly in screen off mode. Thanks for reading.
Was the music constantly skipping or would it play fine for a while, then skip a little bit? This happens to me with google music on MIUI/Glitch, and I haven't been able to figure out if it's an issue with the app itself or something kernel related I could tweak to eliminate the skipping.
I have the same issue as well. I'm using the MIUI 1.12.23 as well as Glitch v13 kernal. Any ways to fix this? I've tried two different MicroSD cards (8GB class 4 and 32GB class 4) and both had the same issue of music skipping when tracks are changing as well as when I wake the phone up from idle state.
I believe it's a kernel issue. it skipped badly on CM7 and glitch... MIUI is kinda the same i guess. I believe it's tied into the battery drain issue with Wifi, bluetooth, and auto sync on CM7.1. I tried the nightly v112, and still a little drain. had to manually turn off all switches or my battery would be dead in the morning. This "glitch" is the same as whats making the music skip... something is pulling power from the cpu and away from the music player.
I fixed it a little bit... i mean, yeah, it skiped and stopped and wasn't playing right, but i had to bump up the bottom number on my cpu voltage from 100Hz default to 200Hz
This helps... but it still skips a little, but not nearly as bad as before.
i'm running GeeWiz ROM now, which doesn't have the battery drain issue, and it seems to lesson the issue.
mine is a temp fix
Hm, I don't use bluetooth and am not always on wifi, I do have some things set to sync though but still experience the skipping. I also have already tried bumping the minimum frequency up to 200mhz and it didn't seem to make and appreciable difference. Although I'm not sure what it's related to, I'm not 100% that it isn't just the google music app when streaming, but my incredible seemed to play music skip-free in the same situations. I haven't yet tried playing locally stored music to see if the issue's still there.
I'm thinking of maybe trying changing the screenstate scaling settings for the kernel, but wish I knew where the issue stemmed from. Any kernel related adjustments haven't fixed the problem so far.
I don't know what it was but the problem is fixed for me. But I had to do a lot of things to get it working. I went back to stock EH03 Gingerbread. Then flashed to GeeWiz 2.4.2 ...then flashed KGB 1127 Kernel and then flashed the recommended LOGCAT fix. After that I updated all of my apps from the market that I could. Got rid of all the apps that suck major cpu usage like Facebook and PowerAmp music player. I switched to PlayerPro music player... Then I used Titanium backup to uninstall all stock music players...
I'm pretty noob at this so I wasn't sure if uninstalling stock apps would work but its good to go. I uninstalled the stock pic gallery as well... All is well... Plays music flawlessly now.
So idk if it was any or all I did but it worked. Seems like it was either apps stealing power or switch bugs in the other roms. But I'm loving GeeWiz 2.4.2 w/KGB 1127 Kernel with the Logcat fix.
Like I said... I'm noob at this so when in doubt... Start over.
Hope that helps.

I forgot to mention that I updated my recovery to CWM3 Voodoo Blue... That I believe was a smart move. GeeWee recivery is fine, but hard to root with... And CWM recovery.all which is 2.5 something has always been flakey for me. I think i'm pretty content finally. Lots of flashing... Ugh

I updated the radio to EC09 and tried different SD cards but got the same issue. I flashed back to stock and flashed KANG version of CM7. Both the stock music player and PowerAMP don't skip when I change tracks or wake the phone up from sleep. Has anyone tried the latest version of MIUI (2.1.6)? Do music tracks skip when changing tracks or waking from sleep?
Can anybody recommend another kernal to use with 2.1.6 MIUI rom that remedies the issue with music skipping?
What class SD cards are you guys using? I have no problems but I use a class 10 card. When I asked my wife how her fully stock Fascinate player works, she had complaints much like yours. I put my SD card in her phone and it played for 2 hours without issue. Her card is the one that came with the phone, a class 2. She also showed me video recording had problems which were also resolved with the class 10 card.
Now I need to know how to get my card back from her - lol.
I don't really keep music on my SD card, I stream it using google music and that's where the skipping happens for me so it's not the SD card. It does it even when the song is fully buffered, so it's not necessarily a connection/data issue either. It's like the music player isn't properly kept in the foreground and the music skips while the phone is "thinking" - doing other things in the background.

Google Music Craps Out after 2-3 Songs??

Having an issues with google music where it'll play 2-3 songs then stop and it refuses to play any more. I can't skip a track and if I go back to select a new song it will hang on a blank google music screen with nothing selected. I have to kill the app via task manage in order to play 2-3 more songs before it happens again. very annoying as my phone NEVER did this before.
Also the issues persists whether or not I'm on WiFi or not, and I've also tried uninstalling google music, refreshing my music, deauthorizing my phone and reauthorizing it, as well as playing music in low and high quality. Nothing works.
I have also been experiencing this problem, haven't found a fix yet though. It actually does the same thing on the stock player as well as google music for me.
Seems to be the LA4 build as I have never had a problem until I flashed the LA4 builds.

Yea I'm on LA4 as well, thought this may be the case but had hoped it wasn't shame cuz I'm really enjoying this rom.
I may have to go back to SHOstock if I can't find a fix though

CM9 music bug (or feature)..???

Hello guys. This is my first post in XDA. I would first like to thank the developers at XDA to bring ICS for our beloved O1..
I'm running cm9 beta5. I installed cm9 music on my phone. One thing that bugs me is that it starts playing music whenever I end a call. I have read somewhere that it is a cm9 music feature but it really annoys me sometimes because it resumes music even if it wasn't playing before the call.. Anyone experiencing the same problem.??
i think it's a bug, it's not a feature
I had this bug once in CM7 (don't remember mik'a or adfad's). I just deleted that song and all was fine
try to unistall and reinstall

[Q] Audio randomly stutters on every rom I've tried and every player.

Hello.
I'm sorry if there is already a solution to this but I have not been able to find one or any posts that don't apply to a particular rom.
I have a re-occurring issue where music I am playing stutters and is glitchy.
This happens on any music player I use and it doesn't matter if the music is stored on the external SD card or the internal memory.
The actual MP3 tracks are fine and the stutters happen in different places in the tracks.
It's as if the phone doesn't have enough resources to play the music which I can't see being the case.
I have had this issue on the stock rom (4.1.2) when I got the phone and every rom I have tried since (CyanogenMod 11, CyanFox, Neatrom Stock and now Neatrom AOSP 4.9).
I am at a loss as to what is causing this and how to resolve it. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks.
I used to have these problems as well..
Since I have used this combination I've yet to encounter any issue with music severely stuttering:
- WanamLite 7.2
- Set min CPU to 300mhz
- Poweramp Music Player (Go to Settings-Audio-Advanced Tweaks.......Set Audio Buffer Size to "Huge +750ms" & Audio Thread Priority to "Highest")
NO MORE MUSIC LAG FOR ME!
Try a different governor.
I'm also experiencing audio stutters with specific governors (for example boeffla kernel - zzmoove yank battery extreme). if i switch it to standard pegasusq however, it works fine (most of the time) :good:
Even with the audio buffer at its maximum I still get the stuttering. I will try a different governed and see if that helps. Thanks.

hi,
i had the same Problems. and as jinosong mentioned a different governor helps !!
best for audio playback is ondemand, lulzactiveq or interactive depending on you rom.
the problem with pegasusq is that it locks core hotpluging while screen is of
to select one of the above mentioned governor only while needed (higher battery usage) i put an option to switch the govenor only while a2dp is playing in my tool "setxperia" version 2.04
maybe you like to check this out ->
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SetXperia.Inteks.org
same problem here
I have also the same problem. I listen to music most of the time and it stutters so often it becomes annoying to the extent i consider buying an mp3 player for it. I tried boeffla and yank kernel with various governors, though the frequency reduces but the stuttering still happens randomly. I searched the forums but found only change of governors as suggestion. I would like to know if any permanent fix is available, i am thinking of trying 4.1.2 to see if stuttering still persists though i don't like stock rom very much. If fix is available it would be helpful if someone post it here.
I have had stuttering with all the roms I have tried. 4.1.2, 4.3 and 4.4.2.
I am running Neatrom AOSP now with Boeffla kernel. Updated to v5 of Neatrom yesterday but not had chance to listen to music on my phone to see if the issue is still there. I will post back if it doesn't happen anymore.
I went back to stock 4.3 firmware and then updated it to latest firmware through samsung OTA update, now there is no stuttering in music play back. Two days of use i still didnt have any stuttering problems. From this I think, if you are using any custom rom, flashing stock kernel in custom roms may help solving it (Though its just a speculation based on the results).

[Q] about the 4.42 pa rom....

i was searching for4.4 roms and i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ranoidandroid-4-2-beta3-t2603784/post53780372 .
