I am interested in upgrading my 1st gen tablet s to jelly bean.
Can anyone say anything about how does the tablet perform after jelly bean update? Is it any better, is it worth the risk, cause I am a newb and don't want brick the device. Also any video to show the whole process?
Any help is appreciated.
even i am looking for this. any help would be appreciated
There are no Jelly Bean (Android OS Version 4.1.x) firmware releases for the Sony Tablet S. Android OS Version 4.0.3 Release 5a is the last firmware release for the Sony Tablet S. No future firmware updates are expected.
Thanks

I use an XTZ and I own four STSes which are used by two granddaughters, a nephew, and a girlfriend, and none of us experience performance problems. I maintain all of the tablets and assure they are up-to-date and have clean installs. Tablets, like automobiles, perform well if they are regularly maintained. I use Performance Booster which provides a small increase in performance. I also use ES Task Manager and SD Maid Pro to keep apps under control and clean. I also limit the number of installed apps; fewer install apps equals better performance. If an app is not being used on a regular basis, the app gets uninstalled. And I stay away from most free apps because I have found free apps tend to cause the most problems.
you didn't mention one thing
That all your Sony Tablet S's are Rooted

Hi Cat,
My daughter has a Sony Tablet S and it is working fine but she thinks Jelly Bean would help with using apps like One Note.
I have been looking at find that the developer "Condi" had some links that kept saying update to Jelly bean unofficial but in the screen shots I still see version 4.0.3 R5A.......
have you seen any updates to this talk??
thanks in advance!
Clint
Yeah, condi's app only gives you 4.0.3 for *NON-XPERIA* Tablet S's.
4.1 JB is only for *XPERIA* Tablet S. Stupid naming scheme by Sony TBH. Unfortunately Sony locked the bootloader from the very beginning, so we aren't going to get good 3rd party support.
What to do with rooted Sony Tablet S?

My primary motive for rooting my Sony Tablet S was to be able to upgrade to JB. But I guess I didn't do my research before rooting my STS. Now, what can I do with a rooted STS that I couldn't with an unrooted one?
Anyone have info on possible updates? 4.4.3 or 4.4.4, I here from searching that lower end models got an update but all seems to be quiet with the z2. I for one would like the double tap fixed, its the most annoying....
I only saw this:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/07/21/xperia-z2-tablet-firmware-build-17-1-2-a-0-314-certfied/
Dunno which Android version that is.

It shares the same version number than the Z2 phone, so 4.4.2 is expected.
still 4.4.2
Update Build 17.1.2.A.0.314
Android version ist stil 4.4.2, so we have to wait a little bit longer...
Hello all,
Is there a way to ignore/suppress the Android 5.0.2 System Update? I am running 4.4.4 KTU84P on a Nexus 7 WiFi (not 2013) with root privileges. I am more then comfortable with modding system files if need be. I have done some research but am unable to figure out how to suppress this message specifically. Thank you in advance for your help.
Cheers,

I'd like to know how to have my older Nexus 7 ignore all future system updates as well. I upgraded to lollipop and my tablet was so sluggish it was unusable. I downgraded back to KitKat (build KTU84P) and am rooted... Any ideas how to get it to stop pestering me?

Glad to hear I am not the only one. I also have the older Nexus 7 and was experience a very slow OS when upgrading to lollipop. This is the reason I returned to KitKat and would like to ignore future updates.
Not sure how accurate this image is, but according to it looks like M4 will skip 5.1.1 and move directly to 6.
this was posted by @HaN5aR on http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/09/19/xperia-z2-firmware-update-23-4-a-1-200-rolling/ and some other good news of the OLD Z as well
That's right abut Z series, which was quite foreseeable. What's more incredible is that T2 Ultra has been really updated to 5.1! I do think it's reliable.
Check this out
That is great news !!!

He installed versions of 26.1.A.2.145 storefront because 26.1.A.2.147 version does not yet exist.
Edit.
I wrote just for the Sony Xperia PL on Facebook and confirmed that it is 5.1.1 and that any day now begins to update.
I also read on a computer site that the M4 gets directly Android M and not 5.1.1.

Yeah I guess so too. because only the the firmware number is changing from .99 to .147 . Which I dont think its a big update.
Anyway, we can have 5.1.1 and 6.0 by compiling ourself...
They already posted on their blog that we will be getting 6.0
http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2015/10/06/sony-xperia-and-android-6-0-marshmallow/?rl=gb
Awesome
When is Android 6 gonna be released for M4 aqua?
*From Sony Blog:*
*Software rollouts are a phased process – timing and availability will vary by market and/or operator. Most models supported but some operator/market exceptions will apply.
It will be updated. Sonyxperiadev is working on M version of their sources.
Hi there,
Probably a silly question, I have a SGP312 and it is on Lollipop since 3 years, do you think is there a way to upgrade to the latest Android 8.1?
If not 8.1, what would be the highest version I can go and how?
The Tablet is essentially a stock one, I never did anything on it, just applied the Sony updates they made available for this old model.
Thank you,
Alex

Hello!
It's quite possible to install even the latest 8.1, though it is still not that stable now.
If you want 99% bug-free experience, i would stick to android 7.1.2, like Resurrection Remix ROM till 8.1 gets to a polished state.
Check this guide for installing custom ROMs on device.
Thank you for the link!
I will give it a try very soon.

Hi buddies,
I have a Sony Xperia Tablet Z (Model: SGP321) with Lollipop v5.0.2.
I had rooted it since a couple of years, so no need to say, it couldn't be upgraded to any higher version of android.
Now I unrooted it and wanna upgrade its android.
My questions:
1. What's the highest Android version officially released for this model?
2. What's the best version you advise me to install on it?
Thanks for your kind & prompt reply.
Cheers,
Leon

Hello!
1. The latest official firmware is android 5.1.1 (v.10.7.A.0.222 or 10.7.A.0.228 depending on region, though internally they are identical).
You can update via xperia-companion software.
2. What's the best only you can say. If stock sony one works good for you, stick to it.
If you have knowledge how to install, and want to try something "custom", there are firmwares based on android 7.1.2 and 8.1 on this forum.
The media players on my Xperia sgp312 keep pausing, has it got something to do with the software, I am still on Android 5.1.1
