Sorted it out the hard way - repartitioned with FAT and lost all my apps. Installed them quickly enough with Applanet App Market.

One thing you need to check is if you have chosen 'internal memory' as the place to download applications that you may have downloaded/installed after installing CM1.In that case,choose the 'move to phone' option so that you don't have any apps stored on your ext partition.As long as you have stored apps either in the phone or external which is the FAT partition,there will be no problem at all in getting rid of the partition.Personally,I have never liked any of these ext partitions because I think they slow down the apps stored on them!

what is the ext2/ext3 partitions being used for ? are they only for setup new roms or for use while running the device?
i havent noticed any change with or without ext3 partition beside the low space left on the 2gb memory card...

ext partitions are required to install apps2sd or link2sd so that you can store downloaded applications there instead of clogging your phone memory.These are not required if your OS is Froyo and higher since there is a native apps2sd which helps you move applications to the main FAT portion off the sd card.

i often have this problem: There is an app2sd-gui DT script included in the rom... and this automatically places apps to the fat partition on the sd card ..
now, i always partition my sdcards with a second ext4 partition and prefer to use that one as an sd-ext directory and use linking to place my apps and all the stuff on my sd.
This allows me to use virtually unlimited storage and keep my internal memory completely free... (i also have a htc wildfire with CM7 and this setup; there i have about 70 apps installed. the internal memory has about 10 MB in use with some files i really wanted to have there so they always start fast like go keyboard, go contacts ex and my ringtones / alarm sounds. All other files are on my 16 gb sd card)
With a lot of the roms i've been trying i just can't get this working on my galaxy ace... especially the ICS roms i can't see my EXT4 partition as /SD-EXT for some reason, but often it gets mounted as /System/SD and thus link2sd cannot use my second partition.
Especially if app2sd is builtin as a system app this seems to be a problem. Has anyone ideas on how i could get this working again with these roms?

You have to edit the a2sd-script wich should be located in /etc/init.d/
But using "Link2sd" would be much easier. It is a well structured app and the usage is simple, because the first time (when you open the app) you have to choose your partition and the mountscript will be created automatically.
You can get Link2SD from this xda-thread or the play store

sd-ext is for CYANOGENMOd only...in stock based rom's u wont find a sd-ext..so s2e wont work.... but charmingly link2sd works....
now if it isn't working what shall u do???
-- if it says mount script not created,, partiotion is busy,,,, reflash the rom or i tried flashing another rom on wich link2sd worked and then reflashing the rom u want... install link2sd apk.. choose ext4 partition reboot.... (it works u can switch from cm7 to stock it wont be a problem)
- if ur sd-ext partition is of ext3 type,,, still choose ext4 on link2sd partition type screen

I always try to use links2sd; but if app2sd(gui) is installed it won't work.
I'd like to edit the init.d 'mount' script, but i don't know how to open thiis since it always says it cannot be found when i try to open it for editing or even for reading.
(i'm trying to open it with an app that has SU rights like Total Commander)
i have some experience with android and installing custom roms ; but i don't have real experience with editing files in a live OS.
Or should i edit the files in the APK before installing it? (isn't this going to break the APK's CRC-key rendering the file unusableN)

I found it
I could edit the mountsd file in the original ZIP (which is not a crc'ed APK )
then reflash my device.
I removed everything in the mountsd file except this;

then i installed S2E & Link2SD, i let link2sd initialize it's scripts and pataboom; i got access again after the next reboot of my device ... finally i have a galaxy ace with unlimited space (or at least kinda limitless compared to the 120mb you get)
i was so used to the big space since it worked like a shine on my htc wildfire (like 60+ apps and only a few mb in use by some apps i really wanted on the internal memory so they start up fast anytime (no interference when other apps are running/starting).
I really love link2sd since it allows you to put apps on external memory and still use the widgets/services/.... while app2sd can't do that

Hello all. I am new to the forums and to Android, so bear with me.
I have been searching around for the past few days for a way to solve the issue that I am having and have not been able to find anything that works for me. So here it is:
I have an LG Optimus L5 II (LG-E450B) running stock Android 4.1.2 (non-rooted) Kernel Version 3.4.0. My carrier is Virgin Mobile (Canada). I recently realized that the stock 2GB of internal memory is not nearly enough for me, so I went out and bought a 16GB Sandisk microSD card. I put music on it, set photos to autosave on it, etc. which all worked great. However, I have been unable to get some apps to move over correctly.
I realize that some apps can't really get moved (at least without rooting, etc). The app I am specifically trying to work with is iBird pro. It's App Info appears as such:
Total: 641 MB
App: 12.68 MB
USB storage app: 628 MB
Data: 4.00 KB
SD Card: 0.00B
The "Move to SD Card" option is available, but when I do it all that it does is drop the App to 3.51MB and up the USB storage app to 637MB. All of which stays on the internal memory. Obviously it is only moving 9MB or so of App to the virtual SD internal memory (which I believe is what shows up in my files manager as /storage/sdcard0, so it doesn't actually move it to the SD card (though a few other apps have sucessfully been moved).
I have tried using App2SD, but it says that the program is not supported by my device (and the iBird Pro shows up as "Phone Only" anyway).
I have tried the ADB hack trick set-install-location 2 and reinstalled the app and still nothing, it just saved on the internal memory.
Finally, when I open the app, it also downloads another ~600MB of database data (bird songs, pictures, etc), which also saves on the internal memory. Or at least tries to but the memory gets full and it stops the download.
Anyone have any ideas for me? I know a lot of people ask this question, but none of the other solutions I came across seemed to help me. I would really appreciate it! I would prefer not to root my phone, by the way. Unless of course someone can make me an incredibly convincing argument.

This is how android's built-in app2sd works.
I don't think you can do anything w/o root.
I suggest rooting, make a second partition to your SD card (2-4 GB) and use link2sd.

There are oh so many reasons to root your phone and few not but that choice is yours
Sounds like only some of the data/libraries are able to me to SD on this app of yours so if you don't want to root it than you'll have to leave it on internal.
And FYI, many apps don't play well or are slowed considerably on SD, so be careful what you move and if you don't Yardley use an app its best to just not even download it, but again choice is yours

Ok, so I decided to root. Which was actually freakishly easy. So how do I move stuff now? I have tried a number of apps, all of which only bring up "App Options" and we have determined that the "Move to SD" option there doesn't work correctly. I just want to figure out how to get the app and all of the data that it will download later to install on the SD, I never thought it would be quite this complicated.

Use Link2SD.
Make a second partition (2-4 GB) and move (link) that app to the second partition.

Ok, so I partitioned my 16GB card into two FAT32 partitions (10 GB and 4 GB) and a Swap Partition of ~850MB (roughly following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2126363). However, when I opened Link2SD and tried to select FAT32/FAT16 as the file system of the SD card's second partition it came up with the Mount Script Error "Mount script cannot be created. mount: I/O error". I had tried formatting with Ext4 and Ext2 file systems as well earlier, but when I selected either it said ext2 or ext4 (whichever I was trying to use) was not supported by my device (which I am assuming means my kernel does not support either).
Edit: Ok, so I changed it. I deleted the Swap partition (couldn't get the swap stuff to work anyway, it's not required right?). There is now 1 10GB partition and 1 5GB partition. Link2SD created the mount link just fine this time. Testing it out. "Install Location" gives a Warning "App2SD is not supported by your device. Because your device has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage. You can link the app in order to move its files to your SD card." Does this mean that I can't automatically link files to the SD card?

Swap IS NOT needed.
Second partition should be ext 2/3/4.
Test to see if auto-link works.

Good to know swap isn't needed. However, Link2SD did keep saying that Ext2 or Ext4 wasn't supported. I can try it again though.

Use Ext3. If it doesn't work use FAT. It can get buggy (not very often).
Also I think that if you can link apps 1 by 1, then you can (probably) use auto-link as well.

Ok, so Ext3 didn't work. So I stuck with the second partition being FAT32 as well. The mount worked fine.
When I try to create the link I get the following error: "Failure. create_link.com.whatbird.pro[1]: can't create /data/sdext2/data/com. whatbird.pro/lib/libfileutils.so: I/O error"
I was able to move the bulk of the apps Obb files to the SD using FolderMount. However, I am unsure how to move the 650MB Misc. data files to the SD.

Flash CWM recovery, in 'mounts and storage' press 'format SD-Ext'. This fixes the I/O error (I think).
If the misc files are libs then ALL of them can be moved/linked.

ROM Manager does not list the LG- E450B as a device supported by CWM Recovery so it won't to an install of CWM Recovery,

Hi guys, so I've got this tablet for free with my new contract and I want to root it to play a bit with it . Do you guys have any idea how to do it ? I haven't managed to find any tutorials on the web .

I too have a Vonino Onyx QS tablet running on Android 4.4.2. The device is decent enough, but storage management is awful! Despite being advertised as an 8 GB tablet in terms of storage, the Onyx QS runs aground at about 900 MB of installed apps (including related data and cache) and starts yelling that there is "Insufficient storage available". This renders the tablet virtually unusable after installing just a few essential apps. Emails stop working, apps will no longer update and data-intensive apps such as Google Earth will simply refuse to run. The 32 GB external SD card I've added makes no difference. It's almost like the OS has no clue what to do with it.
I suck at Android. However, after a lot of digging for pieces of information I've come to undersand that these devices use separate partitions for the apps and other files. Some folks have also hinted towards the fact that the puny 0.9 GB app partition can be resized on a rooted device by means of a partition management app. Or apps could at least be moved to the SD card right before their installation (making use of an app such as Link2SD and, again, a rooted device).
This bring us full circle back to the OP's request: could someone please create and explain a rooting method for this tablet?
Just so you know, these are fresh screenshots of this fresh factory reset configuration. Thought it would fix the problem, but it didn't.

I'm writing this to let you, the OP and everybody else know that Kingo Root did it! I have succesfully rooted the tablet and the process itself was quick and merely a matter of installing the software on my PC, connecting the tablet via USB and clicking my way through.
Afterwards I installed Link2SD Plus to manage the transfer of apps from internal storage to the external SD card (32 GB in my case). The app is dirt cheap and truly what you need, because the free version does not allow you to move app data, only the app itself and its libraries. As I've come to know, data and cache build-up is what ends up killing storage space.
Before installing Link2SD however, one must prepare the SD card by means of a partitioning program. Highly recommend you do this via card reader on an actual PC. Use MiniTool Partition Wizard, it seems to be very popular these days. Delete whatever's already on the card and make two PRIMARY partitions: the first one will be FAT32 and will store the media you consume (like music, photos, videos etc.), while the second partition has to be ext4 (ext2 did not work for me on this tablet) and will hold the apps and their data. You can go ahead and name them "Media" and "Apps" respectively to avoid confusion. Remember: both must be primary partitions, the first one is FAT32 for media, the second is ext4 for apps. I made my app partition 10 GB big. Overkill, you say? Hey, I'm done with insufficient storage space errors, ok? :silly:
While you're at it, you might want to add a third partition for swap space to add more RAM to your device. There are tutorials for it on the web.
Once you're done formatting the card, reinstall it in the tablet, open up Link2SD and choose ext4 at the script mounting prompt. From there on, moving apps from internal to SD card space should be intuitive.
Prior to all this fiddling I suggest you perform a factory reset on your device so you can start clean. Can't tell you anythihg about custom ROMs or stuff like that because I didn't have a need for them. This thing works fine apart from that silly storage limitation.

Hi, i have the same tablet ... and i managed to root it ... but i cant manage to increse the storage . l've done the exact stepts ... installed micropartition deleted my sd card (2gb micro sd samasung) i did the first partition fat32 primary with a size of 800 gb and when i try to make the second one ext4 the program says that windows cant see the second partion on a removable device but i continuued anyways ,,, and created the second one with ext2 and then with ext4 as primary ... my windows and my tablet cant see the second partion ... need a little help ... thx
I heave installed the drivers, and nothing happens. Its not connecting to my pc. I changed the pc too. I heave the error: Unfortunately, Mobile data has stopped. I tryed to repair this with recovery -- Wipe data, factory reset. Not working.
I'm a kind of a guy who wants atleast 250 apps on his phone which he actually had when he was on Kitkat (Link2SD linking did all the magic). After switching on to lollipop, the LP version of Link2SD is totally buggy and hardly works. Linked apps don't work, they force crash or show some other error. Link2SD is out of question and I think it's not getting any fixes because the dev says "v4 is is fully functional with LP" and v4.0.6 is already released but is still super duper buggy and it's working for no one, I'm not alone. I don't understand why does the dev still say it's "fully functional" when linked apps don't even work and neither do the mount scripts.
Anyways, link2sd is out of question now.

XinternalSD is the only solution for you dude. I can confirm that it is working. It works flawlessly on lollipop, no issues at all.
I already use that but but apks, dex, lib, cache all go to internal only during installation.
I realised that even if I swap the internal (/mnt/emulated/0) and external (/mnt/media_rw/sdcard1), there still a magical "data" partition formatted in ext4 where everything goes-- dex, apks, libs, caches. So, that internal 2.17GB on Moto E which is free is actually shared by both the /mnt/emulated/0 and /data/ which is something I don't understand.
Can anybody explain how does this work? If I check in ES File explorer, 972MB of internal is shown as used up. When I open it and select all folder and files and see the properties, it shows 3 MB used up. This is so confusing.
Isn't there no way other than LINK2SD which would currently work and allow me to successfully link or directly install stuff to the second ext4 partition or SD card or *any* similar workaround? :'(

Link2sd really works on lollipop also. After creating mount script for the first time reboot the phone , there will be a link2sd mount warning in the notifications after sometime , double click on it and choose the quick reboot option instead of recreating mount script. After quick reboot from the link2sd all the linked Apps will appear. You have to do this every time your phone boots .

It doesn't always work. Those apps which have lib files don't work after linking. Even if we don't link the lib files, it still doesn't work because the lib files kinda "vanish" and show 0 bytes after linking. And the apps either FC or complain about missing lib files.

The internal 4GB is partitioned into /system, /data and internal sd.
/system is fixed and stores your ROM and system apps.
Back in the days /data/ used to be just like system. However now /data and internal sd are say dynamic. They grow as you install / copy stuff. This is much better than having fixed size partitions. This isn't a limitations instead consider it a flexibility.
All user apps are installed to /data by default which you cannot swap.
They don't seem to expand at all, for instance, /system/ which has a fixed size and once space is over, I can't copy anything to it!

Okay. Once again. /system/ is fixed in size for security reasons. You are not supposed to copy anything to it.
Its /data/ and internal sd that are dynamic.
