Hello everyone,
I wanted to get rid of my stock rom and I didn't have much time to read much about it so I just used the CM installer which got me to 4.4.2 (I wanted CM10.2 and I thought I would have a chance to choose the desired version but I realised it just goes to the most recent one). I am not happy with the battery though and I would like to change rom and probably go to CM 10.2. The thing is I am pretty new to android and I havent even rooted a phone before. So I was wondering which are the steps from here to change a rom so I can read the relevant guides this time.
Thanks!

Hello, I have the "4g" flavor white back T-Mobile version of this tab and with there being different flavors of the 10.1 I am not sure which rom to use. After rooting the phone and getting revovery installed CM downloaded and installed the wifi version of the rom. I thought I found the nightly thread of the tmo version but revovery wouldn't install it saying that the build version was wrong. So I have gone back to stock until I can get this issue cleared up. I think my build prop may be wrong in the device because com.phone.android force closes on boot on the stock rom (I think I need to reinstall stock). But I am still not sure which flavor of the rom to install. I want the CM ICS.
I am not new to installing and using custom roms. I have been doing this since the MT3GS and have been using CM on that since Froyo. I am currently using MT4GS and currently have the CM ICS alpha 4 on it. I am just a bit confused at this point since it is not cut and dry.

I have this one on now There are also CM9 nightlies on the CM site I believe but no issues with this other than camera. There is a camera patch also that makes the back camera work.

Here is the thread with the camera patch.

Not sure why not many people help on this device it's a very nice device and works great on the T-Mobile network but anytime I ask anything no one ever really answers.

Thank you very much!! I think I have the wrong recovery installed which is causing all my issues. It is seeing my device as a wi-fi only device and not a tmo device.
I just got home a few minutes ago, and I had the wrong recovery installed. I got the right one in and everything is going swimmingly so far. Thank you again!
I wish there were subforums for every flavor instead of everything all mixed up. It makes it confusing when you are dealing with 80 different versions of the same device.
Hello everyone,
Sorry if this is the wrong area, but it felt right at first look. I have a International Galaxy S3, rooted, but still didn`t change the ROM... Since o rooted it to use some apps, I've noticed i couldn't install new updates anymore, so I started looking out for a new ROM.
I got interested in Omega ROM, like this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720628
My software is still 4.1.2, can I install a 4.2.2 version of Omega, do I need to take some step before?? Besides, is it stable, since it`s not out yet for galaxy s3?? If I install, can I go back to 4.1.2 smoothly??
I'm asking that because I had a Galaxy S1 and had to install a bootloader before changing the room version. Now I'm a little confused...
Thanks for your help

As long as you have an I9300/T you can install any rom, just make sure you do a nandroid before and some wipes as instructed in the thread. The instructions on how to flash e.g. Omega will be in the thread for sure. In addition you have to make sure, at the moment at least, to have the right kernel (e.g. Siyah will not work with the newer 4.2.1/4.2.2 roms).
read the basics first
Hi,
I'm sure that's a dumb question, but I had to ask it.
I have a Gen8 tablet, and would like three things:
Backup the whole ROM in order to put it back later on
Use that ROM in order to build another one for the same device
Use that ROM (look&feel, apps and so on) to build another one for another device
I've seen that some firmwares (with root) are available for this tablet, and would like to understand how they were built.
Did the developers start from aosp + archos "modified" kernel, or did they start from the existing ROM (aos files from Archos)? Or even a mix of all that?
I installed the SDE yesterday, and have yet to make a complete backup.
Thanks.
Its hard to say where to start after asking these questions. You should read a lot before doing it. Roms based on Cyanogenmod like Buzcuit's one are easy to backup. If you base a new rom on the existing one you will get the bugs of the main rom (Bizcuit's for example) and the bugs of the new rom.
Thanks for your reply.
I don't know if I'll try a new ROM for such an old device, but do you know how these ROMs were made?
I've seen there how to build a new kernel for the tablet, but not a complete system (I often build android-x86, but never tried aosp).
This is rooted stock firmware. Its made by Archos. You should read a bit more about it. I am not a developer and I have pretty basic knowledge and I havent tried myself. Biz and the others can help you much more then me. But ya, u have to read pretty much to start.
Ok, thanks.
Years ago a friend installed CM7 on my Atrix and now it's pretty unstable. I would like to reinstall the ROM fresh. The question is, which ROM should I install. (He didn't backup before installing CM7)
I'm thinking it would be nice to go back to an official ROM but, there is CM10.1. I'm leary of going back to CM because the 10.1 ROM is not official and it doesn't seem there will be much improvements for CM on an Atrix 4G.
I'm leery of going to an official ROM because I see all the banter of bricking it with Gingerbread.
Suggestions?

The real question is what version of android do you want to run? CM7/7.2 is the only official CM ROM. CM10.1 is not official b/c of the kernel issues, which is still being worked. Does it really matter if a ROM is official or not? No. "Doesn't seem there will be much improvements for CM on an Atrix 4G."? Really? I'm not even going to post the link, I'm just going to say go google android version history and see what CM9, 10, and 10.1 have that CM7 does not have, and then restate that noob statement. Seriously, you have no idea what you are talking about.
Multiple users, including myself, have unlocked, rooted, restored to stock, many times over the past 3 yrs. In addition, there are guides readily available to help you through the process of preparing your device for custom ROMs. So the concern of bricking is a non issue unless you don't know what you're doing. Banter of bricking it only exists if you flash the incorrect sbf. Its not that hard. Sit down, read guides, ask questions as needed.
Let me be the first to admit that I am a noob and have no idea what I'm doing because this is my first foray into the world of smart phones (we all have to learn somewhere).
I went ahead and put CM10.1 on there and after adding the fixed gapp package it seems to be working fine.
Does anyone have a working link to a gingerbread ROM that works for an AT&T Atrix 4G? The links on this tread are dead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163342
Hey guys, I haven't used my Fascinate in a long time (it's been replaced 2x over, Galaxy Nexus and then HTC DNA), and have been out of this board/scene for many years. But after seeing how well 4.4.x runs on old devices, I figured I'd wipe it clean and try 4.4.x on it! This is not a daily, and it will not be activated for cellular service (wi-fi only), so it's just something to tinker with.
It is currently:
Rooted
Recovery: CWM 5.0.2.7.
ROM: TSMPoolParty-1.6, Android 2.3.7
Baseband: EC09
Build: GRJ90
I would like the least painless path, to go from this ROM / Recovery, to TWRP and an Android 4.4.x ROM, like Dirty Unicorns (I <3 AOKP, seemed the best bet?).
I did a lot of reading on these boards, and most of the instructions seem to revolve around either coming from a completely stock phone, or, going from 4.x to a different 4.x. I figure since I already have CWM and root, there may be a better / easier path for me?
Thanks so much in advance, sorry for the n00b questions, but it seems many of the guides and sticky posts here are out of date (understandably!)
I think the CM 11 Rom is the best 4.4.2 Rom. It worked for me for about 2 months, but i had to optimize it since i downloaded a lot of apps.

Thank you. Given my setup above, what would be the most efficent way for me to upgrade to it?
Heres the link for CM 11: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2598051
It should tell you how to flash it. Use the "Coming from stock" instructions.
