It is now official! Android L will now be called Android Lollipop and the Nexus 6 is going to be a beast of a phone!!!! So what are your thoughts on the new release and how do you guys think it will affect the LG G2? :fingers-crossed:
Was considering jumping to the N6, but at those prices... haha no.
Hello G2, you're my new best friend. Sticking with the G2, and eagerly awaiting development whenever google decides to drop source. I should learn how to compile and build roms when i go back to Canada...

Not so excited because of the bootloader thing -- look at the chaos in our original android development zone.
Unless LG provides an official unlock...
One more good phone to nexus family and it will be my next :3

very true brother! Hopefully things get sorted out in a quick manner(which I highly doubt since its coming from LG not to be a party pooper ) ...
The N6 looks pretty sweet.

give it till December and we should see ROMS opening up quick..hopefully the cyanogenmod guys will be able to make a new batch of releases asap
Maybe in a year or two
I just got my G2 a few weeks ago and I'm loving it! Didn't go for G3 since It was out of the budget. Being a proud owner of a Nexus One and 7 (2012) I'd love to get a Nexus 6. But I'll wait a year or two when budget may allow or upgrade wife's phone to a Nexus 6
I was all set for upgrading to N6, but wow. Flagship price indeed. Will think about it. At that price range, I can go for a Note 4 or Z3, G3. There's no shortage of options. Nexus was always a favorite because of the price, but this...doesn't feel like a nexus.
The g2 is ultimately the nexus 5 for us Verizon gnex guys. In terms of development and specs, the g2 is where it's at. The n6 is just too steep in $$$$.
Nexus 6 is too expensive for my tastes...
Transmitted via Geass
I first was so excited for the next nexus, willing to buy it as soon as it's available. But then I thought about it again. The screen of the LG G2 is totally enough, and the size is at the maximum for me. Gonna keep this phone so far, hope to see some updates soon, G3 design and Android l.
I hope to see a Google Experience rom for LG G2 D802.
I don't want to buy the new Nexus 6, I think LG G2 is a great smartphone!
I saw some interesting asian forum with a lot of rom for D802..
Only waiting for LG to push android L. Sorry to say this but only a fool would invest in a new phone if they already have a G2. Perfect size, yea, neither too big nor small. A ton of features and big battery to back it up, check. Plus, great CPU power. G2 remains the best phone on the market.

I Love my g2 is a fact. Nexus 6 have a dual front speaker, but the price.....565 euros???? I buy another flashgrip of Samsung, Lg. ..

Not interested in replacing my G2 any time soon but after using the L preview for the last couple months on my nexus 4, I REALLY want it now on my G2.
Nexus 9 though is looking mighty joocy and am considering getting one to replace my old 2012 N7.
I'm hoping the Nexus 6 will be available on some operators in Ireland. It's a tad expensive to buy sim free. I was planning on upgrading to the Note 4 and selling it straightaway to fund the Nexus 6 but I'm not sure.
No operators offered the Nexus 4 or 5 in Ireland so I'm thinking it may be the same this time around but hope I'm wrong.
I dont think its going to take until December for us to see an L rom. My verizon s3 had an unofficial kitkat build by november. Not even a month. This leads me to believe that we should see an L build about a month or so later, that is if we dont run into any major roadblocks such as the new baseband doesnt work on aosp LTE. Anyways, I'm jumping out of my seat for L
Hoping that since the N5 is a sister device to the G2 porting goes well.
I am assuming we will see this on the LG G3 evetually.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Only if the devs decide that the LG G3 is worthy. Let me explain. I just got off the phone with LG and they said they don't support any software (Android) for their phones. They said to call my carrier to find out if there are updates. I asked them about newer versions of Android and they said I would need to talk to the carrier. So I am going to call the carrier and I almost bet that they will say I need to talk to LG. I am calling Sprint now to find out if that is true.

The G3 will get 5.0 don't be ridiculous. Full source for 5.0 isn't even out yet and you're already calling LG and Sprint.
How a member since 2010 could not know this blows my mind.
You're doing nothing but wasting your own time.

First of all I did not call them to find out when they were going to upgrade to 5.0, I am not an idiot. The reason I called is because, since I have owned this device I have not received one update for this phone. I also red in an article that the LG G3 was supposed to get a 4.4.4 update by the end of September.
http://www.androidsas.com/2014/09/lg-g3-to-get-android-444-kitkat-update.html
So while I was on the phone with LG customer service they proceeded to pass the buck to Sprint and Google as if they are not the ones who deal with their own Android updates.
A provider or MFG will not randomly give out information regarding updates. Don't be naive.
Samsung's L version is already in the works and been leaked. LG is obviously developing it's version. I would imagine it will be released by the end of the year. Sprint is usually pretty good at pushing updates to the current year's flagships.

All of that aside, the idea that any front-line support staff from any company is going to have that kind of detailed information from the developers and engineering is just ludicrous. Frontline techs know exactly what is written in their scripts on the computer and nothing more. Why would you even waste time asking them that?

Just a heads up. The customer service rep from LG was just blowing smoke up your ass either because they didn't know or you came across like an ass and they wanted you off the phone.
The way it works is as follows:
Google makes the OS and sends it to the manufactures (LG, Samsung, HTC) where they tweak it for their devices and put in any overlays (Touchwiz, Blur, Sense) before sending it to the carrier. The carrier then tests said OS\devices on their netywork while adding their own bloatware.
IF everything tests with in their liking they will release to the public IF NOT then it goes back to the manufacturer for more tweaking. Wash rinse repeat until you get it.
You can call Sprint and LG support all you like and will likely get different answers depending on who you talk to BUT regardless of who you speak with none of them have a clue at the call center of what is happening when.
Their job is to read a script and do a profile update or whatever is all and then pass it along if they can't get you off the line.
Welcome to smart phones and carriers 101.
The only reason I want LG and Sprint to have an l version someday is we will have a decent build for the devs to take apart. I'm sure there gonna take there time.
This will be on Sprint. And Sprint is VERY slow to roll out any updates. Don't expect it any time soon, unless they feel like they should keep up on their flagship device.

The arrival of a new Android OS version leaves us all asking one big question – will my device receive the update?
To help narrow down your search we have put together a master list of all the devices which will be receiving Android Lollipop at some point in the future. We’ll be updating the list regularly, so if you find a source that confirms another handset will be lucky enough to receive Lollipop, please do let us know.
Without further delay:
HTC
HTC has been pretty open about its update policy and announced that it would be bringing Android Lollipop to its HTC One range within 90 days of the OS’ launch. A leaked roadmap also suggests that Lollipop will be heading to a number of other handsets.
One (M8) – confirmed by HTC
One (M7) – confirmed by HTC
One Mini 2
One Mini – confirmed by HTC
One E8
One Max
Butterfly S
Desire 816
Desire 610
LG
LG has remained tight lipped about its update plans, although numerous sources suggests that its G3 and G2 flagships are in-line for an update at some point. Other devices remain unknown for now.
G3 – rumored but unconfirmed
G2 – rumored but unconfirmed
Motorola
Following the announcement of the Nexus 6, Motorola confirmed that its recent range of handsets would all recieve an update to Lollipop. The following have all been confirmed directly by Motorola.
Moto X (1st Gen. & 2nd Gen.)
Moto G (1st Gen. & 2nd Gen.)
Moto G with 4G LTE
Moto E
Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini
Nexus
After releasing details on its new Nexus devices, Google confirmed that handsets and tablets going back to the Nexus 4 would be receiving Lollipop. The latest reports suggest that an OTA update is scheduled for November 3rd 2014.
The Nexus 4, 5, 7 (WiFi & LTE), and Nexus 10 have all been confirmed by Google and the Nexus 6 and 9 will ship with the latest OS. Google mentioned that GPE handsets would also be among the first to receive an update.
OnePlus
With just one handset to maintain, the OnePlus One will see Lollipop within 3 months of the OS’ release.
OnePlus One – confirmed by OnePlus
Samsung
Just like LG, Samsung hasn’t given out any official information regarding handset updates. The only hint we’ve seen of Android 5.0 on a Samsung device comes from a leaked preview build running on the Galaxy S5.
Galaxy S5 – leaked preview
Sony
Sony has announced that it will be bringing Android 5.0 to all Xperia Z devices, not just its flagships. All of the following have been confirmed by Sony, although a timeframe has not been listed.
Xperia Z3
Xperia Z3 Compact
Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
Xperia Z3v
Xperia Z2
Xperia Z1
Xperia Z1 Compact
Xperia Z
Xperia Tablet Z
Xperia Z Ultra
Xperia ZL
Xperia ZR
Android One
The Karbonn Sparkle V, Micromax Canvas A1, and Spice Dream Uno will receive Android Lollipop “soon” after the full launch of the new version.
Karbonn Sparkle V – guaranteed by Google
Micromax Canvas A1 – guaranteed by Google
Spice Dream Uno – guaranteed by Google
We’ll be updating the list with the latest news when we hear it, so stick this page in your bookmarks. If you have any questions or want to send us a tip about Lollipop updates, head on over to our forums and drop us a line.
I wish LG would take a hint from HTC and Sony when it comes to developer support. HTC learned from their mistakes and Sony has really impressed me(too bad xperia isnt on Sprint).
In any case, LG has gotten better with their updates but Sprint is still slow imo. And when I say better I mean the rumor mill was rampant back on my Lg Optimus G. 4.1.2 was the last update that phone had even though rumors of 4.4 were everywhere for months.
The only reason I want an official 5.0 is for a reason that was already stated(and the same reason I wanted one on the lgog) - a solid base for the devs to work their magic with.
But being on xda does make it a bit of a moot point, the devs will cook something up much sooner then LG/Sprint. Really I just feel bad for those poor fools who have never used xda - they're stuck with whatever they got and have no idea of all the awesome things goin on - or even the true power of the G3.

Sprint has usually been the first ones to release updates compared to the other 3 carries.
And this is why Android gets such a bad rap, if the carriers would take their blinders off and just let the manufacturers update their phones, things wouldnt be so bad. Instead we have to wait for 40 things to happen before our phones get updated to the latest version. Google letting android go to anyone is really what the problem was, licensing out the OS and then letting everyone do what they want with it has really slowed down updates to a crawl. Its honestly getting really stupid and I hope (not that I'm an apple fan by any stretch) that Google eventually just goes the way Apple did and make their OS required to be vanilla on any device that uses it, no more Touchwiz or Blinkfeed or anything else. All those things do is require everyone to get Googles update, tinker with things a bunch until that update now works with their crap overlays and apps and THEN have to worry about the carrier "allowing" the update after all of that is done, its really ridiculous and in this sense, Apple did things right. Google needs to get this under control, when only 25% of your user base is actually on KitKat, its no wonder Apple does so well with the devices and their OS.
So now I get to sit and wait months and months for a proper 5.0 update. Its great that XDA can probably get some things going before that ever hits, but nothing is better than a good ROM designed after the official update

The problem with your post is this.
If Google kept android to themselves then they would be JUST like APPLE. If HTC, Samsung, LG, Motorola or any other android device ran the same vanilla style then every phone would basically be the same. That's why Samsung, HTC, LG, and every other implement things like Touch wiz, Blur or what have you. That way they are not the same and it gives every person a choice unlike Crapple
The bloatware we could all live without

Blehhh. I hate to crush everyone's dreams, but cmon. Look how old this phone is, why would lg update this phone, what benefit will they get from doing it? And who will be mad if they don't? I hope we don't get the HTC treatment, I'm betting we will. This phone is well past the 18- month life expectancy. I'm sure a G3 M port will show up around here eventually.
Well Verizon G2 got lollipop before G3, so who knows what might happen.
As said in another post from another user, g2 fan base is bigger than g3 and g4 one
They NEED to update g2, if they do it, they will have only benefits from who is happy with g2, and will re buy a LG phone
Sorry for english ^^
Inviato dal mio LG-D802 utilizzando Tapatalk
If the G2 gets 6.0 upgrade, I don't think it is because LG wants to make us happy but it is a selling argument for them for the most recent flagship, like "Look, if you buy our phone, we will continue to maintain it when two new generations are available". If I didn't have a G2 yet, that would be a compelling argument for me to buy LG (G4, for example).
G2 mini is just barely 18 months old. Lame if they dont give one last and final update.
One time plz lg [emoji120]

Would be very great if the G2 gets an Update to M and not only G2 Users would benefit from an Upgrade also LG,because it would mean that the G2 had a Support for more than 2 years (which would be way better than other competitors like HTC,.)
that will be great. show that LG is a company which supports products longer than other companies.

Soon...
How soon ..
Take a calendar, go to February, cross out days 1-15, then throw a dart on it. Pretty much as accurate of a guess as any.
It really sucks that LG has decided to shaft it's flagship in order to release 6.0 first on the G4, when all their advertising is for the v10.

I hate to say it, but the V10 is far from their flagship device. Maybe after releasing V10 variants a few times it'll get there. Until then, the G series is still considered the LG flagship, even if it is cheaper. I love the V10 more than most and I'm sure we will have MM sooner than later.

Exactly. The G series is their flagships. Their others are, honestly, niche devices that they don't really focus all their efforts on.
After some thinking, I decided to hop off the LG boat, and swim to somewhere else.
I've been using LG phones ever since the G2, and I'm just sad for them - they failed miserably every time since the G4 fiasco. I can't root my model (H870DS) and the updates seldom come, and just downgrade the phone with every new one.
I'm looking for a new phone, but I need recommendations: It needs to have Wireless charging, FREQUENT software updates and a good battery (Proud Pokémon GOer )
Budget is 790$, but selection may be limited because I live in Israel. Any suggestions will be welcome

My experience with Samsung UI is really....bad (you can look at my signature to know I did use many samsung flagship phones).
Before I got my Mi Mix 2S, I gave S9 plus a try for several weeks, but microstuttering drove me nut (the lag was not very noticeable, but it's always there).
I used to both G6 and S8 Active, I would say G6 is smoother than S8 Active.....
Unless you will put Linage OS on, skip all Samsung phones.... Their UI and stock kernel whatever causes micro lag, micro stuttering....
Sent from my MI 9 using Tapatalk
I'll consider that
For me though, ANY UI is better than LG's one. Well, maybe except MIUI (Almost had a seizure from the color burst, ain't gonna lie)...
The cheapest stuff available with Wireless Charging here are Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and 3, and the said S9.
As long as they update their phones frequently, I don't mind so much - and if I can root them.
*cough*LG*cough*
Thanks for the help
I've did some thinking, and I'm gonna buy the Pocophone.
Wireless Charging is not that important to me now that I think about it, and I don't use NFC anyway so I don't mind.
Thanks

I'm also leaving LG pretty soon, I made myself a spreadsheet of things I need (not very similar to your requests though, so it isn't of much use to you) but I will probably head over to a Pixel 3 XL (though that notch is awful) I absolutely NEED support for Band 13 (as I use Verizon and that band has the best service in my area), an unlocked bootloader and voLTE on stock ROMs, I hate just about every custom android skin that manufacturers ship with their phones, for me this means Samsung and LG are gone as they have proprietary voLTE implementations that don't work on AOSP (stock android) ROMs. I also need something with a modern SOC (845/855/670) and I really want my OLED screen back. Basically I ended up with a Pixel 3/Pixel 3a or Mi Mix 3, both of which can be had for <$500, Google phones will have the fastest updates, if you need wireless charging as mentioned the Pixel 3 (non a) has that and water resistance but no SD card or headphone jack. If you are fine with Samsung's Touchwiz or whatever it's called now you could go for a s9/s10 but they probably won't get fast updates so I wouldn't recommend it (tough it has just about every hardware feature)
TL;DR
Samsung has the best hardware but their software is IMO awful and won't release many updates
Mi Mix 3 5G is within your budget and is more future-proof because of it's 5G but updates probably will be very minimal (without custom ROMs of course)
Google doesn't quite have the same level of Hardware and features as Samusng but you will get updates and as long as you buy Unlocked you will have everything (bootloader, root ability, carrier) unlocked.
Basically from your requests, I recommend a Pixel 3/Pixel 3 XL
