For those of you who have been following this thread - Multirom has been released.
You can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/orig-development/alpha-multirom-v28-t2876272
it's still in ALPHA stage but that'll change soon I guess.
Thanks @patrik.KT

oblikas can port MultiRom to our G2 for all variants. With MultiRom you can use many roms at the same time, just reboot to switch between them.
You can check the S4 or One thread for more details:
http://goo.gl/jhykyC
http://goo.gl/vvKQkP
Also here is a video to see MultiRom in action:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHhjgHsbzwg&feature=youtube_gdata_player
If you want to see MultiRom, oblikas needs the G2, so let's help me to donate him.
This is his paypal email : [email protected]
MultiRom is open source. Would be nice to have someone that's already messed with the source code, but at the same time, any dev could build it. Just need one that knows what needs to be changed for the specific device.
and with all the differences in the G2, I don't think 1 port would work on all devices. There are to many hardware differences He could use one as a starting oint, but would still need multiple versions. Just like each model needs it's own recovery.
This sounds exactly like the safestrap recovery we had for the razr. Very useful.

actually there are no pertinent hardware differences between g2s aside from an extra mic on att (korean versions aside) they all use the same mainboard. the only reason why they have to make all the differentversions is loki. and a few software differences made by carriers. even the radios are included on die in the snapdragon 800 its just what bands are enabled.
no progress?
MutiROM port for Lg G2
Dear OptimusRS,
Do you have any success with porting MultiROM to LG G2 device?
That would be great to have MultiROM feature! I have it on my Nexus 7(flo) and it is amazing!
It makes much easier testing and usage of different ROM-s.
Thanks!
Lets get this going!
Hey guys,
This would be amazing to get running, lets see about either donating a little bit of money to help the Dev get a G2 so he can help us
OR
If someone has an extra G2 or something along those lines.
I know many people here would LOVE this so lets try and get some attintion to it again!

Supposedly the Verizon is pretty different because of the specific LTE bands and Wireless Charging. Lots of Rom ports directly to Verizon cause lots of signal, dialer, rotation, MMS, and random reboots.
Not sure if they figured it out yet.

They all use the same main board and wireless charging works regardless of the rom. From what i can tell the issues are related to software differences not hardware. Even the lte band are most likely locked via software but since the antenna is different on the vs980 even if u could unlock the extra bands i doubt u could pick em up. Same for fm radio, the module is there its just not connected.
No progress??? =(

I was doing some reading and came across this interesting article. I hope our devs can UN dm-verify our stock kernel.
It may make rooting future devices much more difficult. I wonder what bug crawled up Google's butt.

So do we get the pitchforks out and commence advance on LGs social media, etc? To get them to churn out an official build, of course.
It's a great phone and I bought it knowing they might not be quick on the draw. Didn't consider that 4.4 might make all these ROMs all for naught. Still, I needed a faster phone and this certainly fits the bill!
At same time I did know that short of a GSM Nexus that I couldn't have guarantee of latest Android.
I'm stuck on Verizon until March 2013. I can then slap a GSM Sim in, hopefully. But I paid retail so it's not like I want to buy a new phone anytime soon.
Well. I have myself to blame. Again. But I am off contract in March and this will never happen to me again!
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
I am hopeful that when 4.4 comes out our devs will be able find a way for us to upgrade from 4.2 to a custom rooted 4.4 with out any issues. I do think that even stock unrooted this phone is fantastic it is carrier iq that is killing me. I'm sure att will put it in 4.4 also. Even though it was the carriers idea LG allows it to happen so I blame them also.

LG to my knowledge locks the bootloader on all its devices regardless of carrier.
This is troubling. The reason I chose the G2 was because it was the closest thing to the Nexus 5 on Verizon and had good developer support. Hopefully our fantastic developers will figure out a solution.
From what I understand, unless we upgrade to the official 4.4 LG ROM, there is no chance of this happening. Is that correct ?
I guess I'm selling the g2 for the nexus 5

That's my take on it. It is built into the 4.4 kernel. I wonder if this had anything to do with Google buying Motorola in August. Lock the phones way down for the carriers.
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Premium HD app
If there will not be a 4.4 rom within 3 months guess it is a dirty shot for those who bought it and want to buy it like me
Looks like I'll be rolling with Nexus devices from now on. I guess it was bound to happen though, I'm sure OEM's wanted another security layer because of bootloader work a rounds. On the upside though, there will be less threads on device release days asking for root and ROM ETA's!
Sent from my Nexus 7
the funny thing even though android are opensource, the phones and hardware are not. Thats where improvement is. If you create an abstraction layer, where due to propriatary stuff its closed and updateable by vendor. Another layer, the OS can go on top, thusly eliminating hardware dependancy as well as increasing updatability. OS and security issues can then more easily be adressed, without the now unduable vendor involvement needed in integrating the new OS with all the hardware specifics. Given the entropy rate of new phones coming out, its undoable. This last, as wel as commercial reasons is why updates and fixes for security holes dont come fast. As of yet.
Right now we see the true devs juggling various devices as the rate of entropy in new devices is higher then more true devs coming in. Devices not even picket up by community cause there are no devs for it. The breaking point has come.
A new design must be made for this momentum, a new standard

right. as long as you can flash custom kernels all this stuff should not be a problem.
it's about time to build some kitkat
KitKat has been out for like 5 days. Let's give the developers some time before everyone starts freaking out for no reason. They always find a way.

I think people who are already rooted will be ok , they will just need to avoid the official 4.4 until a custom rom is built. The bigger problem will be for new unrooted owners. I would imagine it being tricky to flash a custom kernel without the ability to root. I also agree in time the devs will figure something out.

I dont care if the carrier releases it(it would be nice tho) just as long as an official LG optimus G rom is out there I will put it on my phone. I just love the LG UI. I am using a cm11 which is pretty good
Actually, E970 should get Kit Kat earlier than the other variants
LG has already updated the User Agent Profile on its official website:
Old http://gsm.lge.com/html/gsm/E970-M6-D1.xml
New http://gsm.lge.com/html/gsm/E970-M10-D1-KK.xml
G Pro now has a similar profile and it has been updated recently:
http://gsm.lge.com/html/gsm/E980-M10-D1-KK.xml
You can try to put different numbers instead of "970" and check corresponding UAPs

Basically, these links detail backend support details about the system for the official E970 KitKat ROM. It doesn't really contain anything particularly useful per se, but the fact that it exists shows that official KitKat Does exist for the E970.

This is awesome. I sure hope AT&T delivers on this one.
Yeah, I don't expect this at all, with how bad LG is with updating their phones, plus AT&T pushing an update out on a phone this old. I really hope they do, but I have no hope they will.
Still no news about the update for e970. :/
But the official kitkat port is really smooth and stable. I'm grateful that we have such awesome developers working for our device.
im having trouble with messaging threads on Paulicat's but other than that and wifi shutting off every once and a while the rom is better than an lg/att release of it. Their release would have too much bloatware.

Hi, hope Stock rom 4.4 coming soon
I just purchased my S5 yesterday (April 17th), but I regret selling my M8. I thought the S5 would have more dev support and more ROM's than M8, but I guess I was wrong. On the T-Mobile M8 Android Dev section there is a GPE ROM and a RUU to covert the M8 to stock android.
I was expecting like 5-10 ROMs on the S5 already (as was with the Note 3), but I guess I'm wrong? Or can I flash ROM's meant for the non T-Mobile S5?
That's my main question.
Where are the ROM's?
wow really?
Impatient much?
You do realize that this phone came out less then two weeks ago.
And I am sure that not that many people have jumped to this since there were so many people that develop that are already on the s4 and the s5 is not that much of a upgrade for them to switch.
Not to mention that the AT&T and Verizon cariants are not rootable yet and more developers are typically on those networks to begin with.
Give it a little more time for the others to get root and developers to move over and get used to the different setup and roms will come.

Well just saying the M8 has more ROM's and even stock android flashability (made that up )
Seriously though, there is a GPE ROM for M8 that allows you to flash back to stock still, and the RUU Google Play Edition, which essentially converts the M8 on T-Mobile (and other carriers) to a GPE version of the M8 permanately.

I haven't tried it, but I would assume it works fine as long as you keep the T-Mobile firmware. There is some discussion in the general thread about people running the international ROMs as well as in the international forums, look around. I think we'll start seeing custom ROMs built from the T-Mobile base sometime next week at the latest, I'm content with root for now.

I'm thinking of upgrading as well, but coming from carrier specific devices (the Samsung Infuse, ATT only, and the Nexus 4 on Simple Mobile), there hasn't been different variants. So the T-Mobile devices is compatible with ROMs built for the international variant? Would the kernels for it be compatible as well? The only thing that would be lost would be the carrier specific additions such as built-in VOIP? No differences in partition layout?

APN shows T-Mobile, so I believe its just a kernel/radio issue. It's up to you if flashing a custom ROM is worth no LTE.

Just put this together for myself and decided to share.
Its 100% pure aosp so there isn't much for me to support.
Forgot to mention when I first posted, pre-rooted and busybox pre-installed.
It is set up for Canadian geeb which has green led.
For AT&T you could try xposed and gravity box and set the notification color from there.
Latest build doesn't use touchboost and you should see some battery improvement. Also removed stock aosp recovery from install.

This ROM looks very interesting! Even though it's stock barebones AOSP, sometimes that just the best ROM to run on your phone Is there any possible way a gee version can be built for us Sprint and Internationals? If not, I totally understand <3

This is a boot.img for gee I just built:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712460412
Flash the rom as is, and fastboot flash boot boot.img after should work.
Or just replace it in the rom. Whichever is easier for you.
Let me know if it works, if it does I will start a new thread in International forum for you guys and upload a zip with this boot.img in it.
Just installed, and the ROM is working smoothly. Thank you very much for this!
Thanks for building this...
Gotta have AOSP ! [emoji106]

Forgive my ignorance, but wouldn't flashing this even with the gee kernel give us data issues?

If you have an e975 it should work just fine.
Only difference between our phones is the camera module.

LS970 over here. Unified Gee ROMs work for both LS970 and E975, but not specific E975 builds. Kinda weird how it all works, lol. But it sounds like I should he fine, right?

For AT&T you could try xposed and gravity box and set the notification color from there.

No need to worry about AT&T LED colors. We only have a choice of red, red, and red.

Well, I took the plunge and flashed the ROM. It booted up, but as expected, data was a no go. Tried every trick that I know to get it working, but nothing worked. Still though, the ROM was amazing and smooth

I'll see if I can find out the difference for ls970.
They are CDMA and not GSM right?
Maybe as simple as a build.prop edit network??

Yes, we are CDMA. One of our first KK ROMs was actually an AOSP geeb port, exactly like this ROM (but older), and it worked. So its definitely possible!

Hi.
With the exception of the bypass of samsung protection, all those features are already available in the rooted firmware. and custom themes are popping up slowly...
The reason there are so many different firmware files is because its not like the Gear 1 where it was one model and thats it. Theres several different variants that differ in model, supported bands and country so there wouldnt be one piece of software to cover all.

That's the biggest thing I'm looking for is the bypass of samsung protection. To be able to modify the apks and install them on the watch through my non-samsung phone (like I do with my gear 2).
The model I have is at&t.. Not sure if that would be difficult to modify.
Btw, thanks for the response!

I'm uploading it.
To test it you might try to install some of this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-gear/themes-apps/request-signed-apks-t2851177
If doesn't work pls try to sideload with sdb the wgt file inside the apk.
I will send you a pm with the link, pls report so i can make a guide for all.
oh sweet progress!!!
Any updates?
