I rooted my XT912 (JB 4.1.2) using Razr Blade. A few weeks later I had it flashed to work on PagePlus. The flash process did not affect root. Some time after that, with no changes other than installing a few apps, I lost root. Rerooted and now fine again but curious what could have caused loss of root.

Just curious did you try to update the superuser binaries first before re-rooting?

I've rooted my razr but I accidentally did a system update and now it seems I've lost my root. Superuser and bionic bootstrapper is still there. I've check using root checker my busybox is install OK but not my root. I've try rerooting using doomlords ver. 1-4 but still unable to get root back. Please Help. Mine is XT910 Asia version. Thanks for any help given.

If you can't reroot, you'll have to downgrade again and become familiar with an excellent little app called OTA Rootkeeper.

If u're on 65.1.21.XT910.AsiaRetail.en.03 there's no way to root for now. U should go back to 65.1.12.XT910.PSHAsiaRetail.en.03. I'm not try yet, but you can see here how it goes:

OTA Rootkeeper works exactly as the name implies, it 'keeps' root during OTA updates. You can't root most recent RAZR OTAs directly, you have to downgrade, root again, preserve root with OTA Rootkeeper, and upgrade back to the latest OTA.
So, yes and no.
From stock .173 if rooted ota will come in no problem and if I do temp unroot with voodoo , then after update I will have root available too restore through voodoo

.... lol ....
Ok ok I apologize, I'm just super paranoid and want the ics update to go smoothly but want to retain my root and since no one had had the official ota yet want to make sure it will take and some strange root related file won't spoil my ice cream sandwich dreams, and I've been enjoying rooting and claiming and tweaking since my Eris days apologize for sounding like a noob , I'm just a paranoid veteran

You got. Just don't install a recovery and before you install any ota, temp un root. Then restore root after. Also unfreeze anything before and do not delete any system apps.
Thanks very much, that's what I thought just like to quadrupole check

So should I uninstall Bootstrap?
Yes to uninstall bootstrap. Separate thought; Motofail root method wouldn't create any ota blockers right no extra steps to take if used that method?

why is this one so large and what i ssafestrap? the ics root i used was only a 7mb download.
Safestrap is for making a recovery backup, and flashing etc. its like a multi tool you can also flash roms with it.
That's always been the size?

Yeah use the one the other guy gave you, its large because it has allot of things you need, such as flash factory files, root, install ota keeper, and safestrap which lets you install roms. Its a really good utility, and its the only way you can get root on JB.
I'm running a verizon gs4. I was previously rooted and running hyperdrive. After the last update I lost root. I have tried to re-root
using odin and motochopper. When I run the root exploit it fails because it says su is already installed. Pretty lost at this point.
I've searched the forums and google to no avail. Anyone have some direction I could take? I am able to access cwm and still flash
hyperdrive but cannot get root back

If you have cwm just flash this http://download.chainfire.eu/382/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.93.zip. If you are on hyperdrive but have lost root that should fix you right up.

When I updated to HD rls 15. Running MDK so cwm still works.
Thanks hix that did the trick

I'm also curious how you're on a Verizon s4 that you updated and were still able to have CWM. You'd have to be on maybe an international S4 ,,TMobile.. Sprint... To name a few for this to be possible.

Just went back to this phone while i'm getting my other repaired and it was recently updated to the latest update. I'm just curious if it's possible to root and install safestrap on the latest CDMA version?
It should me possible. It was only a small update to fix problems when roaming...I think. It's not like we went above and beyond jellybean. I didn't lose root when I updated and I didn't see any message about root being restored after the update. Try it and see
