I tried to create 2 partitions (first FAT32, second ext3 for Apps2SD/Link2SD) on my 2 GB SD card (yeah, this one which is included in Galaxy Ace original package). I used MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition software and it didn't create both partitions (because Windows can't recognize two primary part in removable device, just FAT32 part was created).
Now I can't access files on my SD card. // OK, I can see these files now, but there's still problem with the second partition, Link2SD says "device not found") – the reason is that ext3 partition wasn't created, MiniTools show only first FAT32 partition. When I want to delete this partition and create one big partition (I mean reset changes), MiniTools Partition Master is doing that, but after „success“ applying this option there are still first FAT32 partition and unallocated space.
I wanted to get everything to normal, so I formatted SD card (FAT32/FAT; in MiniTool and Windows, both of them), but no change – when I upload MP3 file to SD card, I am not able to see it in Android.
ROM VillainROM 1.0.
Does anybody know what happened?

Hi all, I am new to android but have tried to do a CM7 boot by writing the CM7 Final image to my sd card using WinDisk. It states that it will corrupt the physical device but I proceed with the writing of image. After doing so, I boot my NT and it works perfectly in CM7. However, when I remove the SD card from my NT and wanted to transfer files over to my SD card, I realised the storage size is reduced to 190MB.
Is there a way to free up the storage size but my NT can still boot CM7 off the SD card?
I am using a 16gb class 4 microsd card and will like to see if there's any ways to solve the problem.

Bumping this I have the same problem. I know you can partion it with a main active partion, but is there away to do it without formatting the SD card? Mine also has 190mb

I'm not sure what CM7's capable of using but you *can* use GParted to expand existing partitions or create partitions in the unallocated part of the card without affecting the system partition. I'm not sure that expanding the system partition would be of much use as I don't think you'll find many apps that can access it so creating another volume/partition is the best bet. Can't help with how to mount it so it's usable by all of your apps...

Use this tool here to repartition your SD card:

It's very easy to use. You can just delete the partitions of space that aren't being used so that they become unallocated space. Then you're free to merge with another partition or create another.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Just a note to anyone who needs Ext* or exFAT support, Partition Wizard only supports FAT(like FAT16, FAT32) and NTFS filesystems.
I wanted to create a new partition on the unallocated space in partition wizard but it requires me to change one partition to logical first.
I am kinda lost as I wasn't sure which method is best to obtain.
I will be generally pleased if anyone can provide me with instruction/screenshot in doing so.
Your help is largely appreciated.

I do believe you can only have 4 primary partitions on a hard disk.

I only get 1.3Gb of storage with CNMod on a 32Gb card (original B&N stuff intact). Tried using ROM Manager to repartition the card and load a previously backed up CNMod image with clockwork recovery -- same result. Pretty frustrating...

The problem is windows...
I don't think this is addressing the main issue. You have to understand how Windows is reading the sd card, and how the CM7 boot disk is setup. There are 4 partitions on the CM7 boot disk. The first is the actual boot information. This is a vfat formatted partition that is <200MB. The next 2 partitions are system related for the OS. The 4th and last partition is the one that is used as the actual SDCARD in CM7.
The problem is that Windows can ONLY mount the first partition on a removable device. I have not been able to find a method to mount the 4th partition (in windows), which is the resized data partition for the bootable disk.
I would suggest installing a Virtual Box version of Ubuntu and mounting the SD card from there and transferring files through Ubuntu.
Yes, you can mount the SD card when attaching the Nook via USB, but the difference in transfer speed is a joke. I get 2.5MB usb, vs 10MB with a card reader.

All you have to do is merge the unallocated space that was left on your SD with the last partition the CM7 image created.

As i'm using windows, it only can see the first partition on SD card, someone mentions virtual box with ubuntu? Is there other method out there? Right now, there are actually 5 partitions on your SD card:
1st partition) capacity 190mb, FAT 32, primary, active
2nd partition) capacity 763 mb, Ext3, primary, none
3rd partition) capacity 1.4 gb, ext 3, primary, none
4th partition) capacity 1.3 gb, fat32, primary, none

Just to confirm, drymer is correct. You can use either software EASEUS or Partition Wizard on your Windows operating system to combine your 4th and 5th partition.
Can I use the partition tools if im on alberts abd rom w stock 1.4.0? or i have to be on cm7?

Hmm, let me keep trying. Easeus won't let me combine logical and primary partition, i.e. the 5th and the 4th partition. Is there another method out there?

Hmmm, it should just let you extend the 4th partition with all of the unallocated space directly after it. Just by choosing the 4th partition, select resize, and choose how much you want to extend it by.
I got the sd card to read up to 12 gb now (out of 16 gb) in root explorer, but is there a way for it to show up under windows?

Cool. 32GB Class10 cards are the business.
No, you shouldn't need to copy any files from your old card. BUT.....
I'd check all applications and restore all data back to the phone (if you have the available internal storage available) before you insert the new card so you have no installed applications with sdcard storage. settings -> applications
Sometimes it's better to start a fresh and this way you're not copying over all your 'zombie' folders from apps you no longer have installed.
Export configuration/setup files for the likes of mail, contacts and etc, so you can import them again later if required.
I have a NAS and copy my old card(s) onto the NAS and thus I have access to the 'old' data via WiFi if and when I need it as the XPERIA X10i has no OTG microUSB access.
Apps2SD does NOT free up memory, it frees up space in your internal storage area and takes advantage of your high speed Classs10 miroSD card read/write I/O and 32GB disk space. Your XPERIA X10 has an internal data size as small as approx 400MB, with approx 2-3MB read/write I/O and that's what apps2sd is attempting to assist by freeing up space on your internal /data storage.
Apps2SD allows you to manage the applications which can be moved onto the microSD card. Apps2SD does leave some files (dex) in the /data partition on the phone internal memory, but even so you'll reduce the internal phone storage use.
The only real down side of Apps2SD is that you have to consider that all your SD card applications will NOT be accessible when your phone is mounted via USB on a PC as the 32GB microSD card is generally one FAT32 partition.

If you enabled root access, you could use Link2SD and a 32GB Class10 card is just the ticket for this kind of use.
This allows you to create a second ext4 formatted data partition on your SDcard(I use a 1GB partition) and have the applications themselves run from the SDcard as will as the data which is linked from the primary partition. This takes full advantage of your high speed Class10 MicroSD card and this partition is not 'unmounted' when your phone is connected to a PC via USB, so all your 'linked' applications continue to work.
If you remove or replace the SDcard after using apps2sd or link2sd your lose all your applications on the SDcard, so just be aware.
Link2SD is mucho cool as you can backup the second partition and then recreate it and re-run the Link2SD mount script and it'll relink and restore all your Link2SD applications as is stores all the app, library and data files.

You can leave your XPERIA X10i to format the 32GB card or you can format it on a PC using one of the following tools.
You can read up on formatted unit size and partition alignment and see if it is right for you.
I use Ridgecorp Consultants FAT32 formatter
Or you could use SD Association FAT32 formatter (I've not used it)
When the XPERIA X10i formats and mounts the SD card a few XML files are created as well.
I would install Link2SD as your first user application as then all following applications will be 'auto' linked after you setup Link2SD on your SD card.
Most 'new-ish' ROMs have support for additional partitions (ext3/ext4) and mount the FAT32 formatted partition first before any additional ext3/4 partitions.
GB 2.3.3 doesn't have this support and you'll need to install via xRecovery or CWM(if supported)

Hi, I formatted the 32 gb sd card today using the minitool partion wizard (as it is given in the link you provided).
I partitioned 1 gb as fat32 and the remaining as ext2....
But now I can only see the 1 gb in my mobile(cant able to see remaining space), What should I do now.....
Shall I format the sd card completely to fat32 (back to its original form) . Is it possible to partion using link2sd...

No, I did not install the zip...
I formatted the sd in my pc, copied the rom in the sd card and then installed V23 ROM.......and then downloaded link2sd from play store...
I only did this....
Cool. And after successfully installing the FreaLab v23 ROM from the FAT32 partition of the card which may or may not be approximately 28GB which xRecovery/CWM can read without problems. You restarted your phone, logged in and proceeded through the startup wizard, probably rebooted if you followed the FeraLab V23 ROM install instructions and restarted the phone again.
You would then normally check to see if the MicroSD card is operational/mounted and/or go to settings->storage and check that you had a 28GB FAT32 partition mounted.
If the MicroSD card is not mounted or there is an operational error with the MicroSD card, then there is a fair chance you need to install the Link2SD mount correction zip to allow the Android phone to mount the FAT32 partition first.
I have to assume that because you were able to install the ROM from the MicroSD card that there is some sort of operational working formatted storage available on the MicroSD card that Android recognizes.
If this is successful and there was no MicroSD card mounting or operational errors you'd proceed to setup Google play with a user sign-in and installed Link2SD.
You'd then invoked Link2SD and assign the correct format to the partition. I chose ext4. You could choose any of ext2,ext3 or ext4 options.
If this is successful you will need to restart your phone or at least restart Link2SD.
Then you should be good to go.

This is not working, I tried with both the zip and without zip.....
It says
Mount Script error
Mount script cannot be created.
mount: mounting/dev/block/vold/179:2 on /data/sdext2
failed: Invalid argument
ext4 may not be supported on your device. Try FAT32 on the second partition
So, should I try FAT32 for both partitions....
In that case what will be the probability that it will choose exactly my 1gb partition...

im using x10 stock rom and I cant mount partition like ext2,ext3,ext4. it showing SD CARD IS BLANK OR UNSUPPORTED FILE SYSTEM.

I have been using Link2SD to move apps to the external microSD card. But not many apps and I still hit the internal memory limit. Then I discovered that Link2SD can effectively increase the internal memory if I created a second partition on my microSD card and let the Link2SD use that partition as a virtual extension of internal memory. So I created two partitions on my microSD card.
The problem is that my phone (rooted, 4.4.2 stock ROM) refuses to recognize this arrangement and complains that the SD card is damaged. When I let the phone's default app format the first partition, it removes the second one and formats the whole card as partition.
Anyone has a solution or suggestion for me? Thanks,

Could you please explain with a bit more detail? I have checked the Play Store, there are several apps called "sdcard fix" or similar, but they all say they solve the microSD write problem with KitKat. My problem is that when I create the 2nd partition on my SD card, the phone does not even recognize the first partition. Link2SD recognizes the 2nd partition, but it does not recognize the first partition either.
I have checked foldermount, and it seems to do the same thing as Link2SD but it looks like a lot of manual work, identifying folders and creating symbolic links on the SD card.

No folder Mount does it automatically it moves file to SD card and tricks the system. Its fairly simple.
Use app analyzer and click yes to everything. Seems to me you're putting too much thought into this.
1st partition must be fat32 and 2nd partition ext2, both partitions set as primary.
But as sugested, download a sdcardfix from playstore (makes external writeable again), download foldermount paid version, a lot easier.

currently I am reinstalling my now around one year old honor 5x.
Since I bought it, it was on b130 and could not update because of a custom TWRP recovery and root access.
So now I sat down, installed a stock b140, updated to b330 (android 6) and then installed CyanogenMod (Nightly). Many problems occurred on the way but until now I found all my questions answered in old threads.
Now the system runs smoothly and I can start configuring it. This includes Link2sd in order to be able to force move large apps to my sd card and linking them to the system. But this time I have quite a lot problems with this.
I started by doing the exact same thing like last time:
shut down the phone, take SD Card out of the phone and plug into computer
create around 80% primary partition fat32 and 19% primary partition ext4 (also tested ext2) (the 1% is unused space)
Then plug the sd card back in and start the phone
ES Datei Explorer now shows three "spaces": the internal space, the large fat32 sd partition and the small ext4 sd partition (all three can be written and read on)
Now start Link2SD. It recognices the second partition and askes what filesystem there is. I choose "ext4" and press OK
Here is my main problem: The app gives me an error:

Could not create mount script.
mount: '/dev/block/vold/public:179_66'->'/data/sdext2': Invalid argument
So the mount script could not be created and in the threads on xda there are some possible "solutions":
trying different filesystems: ext2, ext3, ext4 -> I tried all of them
clearing dalvik-cache -> I also tried that
formatting the sd card inside the phone with a app called "AParted" -> no help at all
Make Link2sd to a system app -> I did this by moving the folder from Link2sd from /app/data/ to /app/system/ (I hope this is enouph to be a system app, but Link2sd is starting normal after a reboot and is also not listed anymore under "user apps", instead now I can find it unter "system apps" ... so I think this worked fine)

The interesting part now is, that I can go in my system settings of android -> Spaceusage (don't know how it is exactly called in english) -> and then unmount only the ext4 partition of the sd card (the fat32 is still mounted).
After I do that, Link2SD can create the mount script !!!
The dialog after creating the mount script says, that I have to reboot the system in order to finish the process. But when I do so, after the reboot the "normal" mount of the system is there again and Link2sd is asking for the filesystem again. So no "special" mount for linking possible.
So now my question:
How can I fix this issue? Can I
force android to stop mounting the ext4 on booting and let Link2sd's script do the mounting?
do I have to set special permissions to the created mounting script?
Is there a other way to make Link2sd work properly? Do I missed something? (last time it worked this way, but maybe something changed due the time?)
is Link2sd maybe incompatible with android 6.0?

OH MY GOD .. That long to read ,
Install Cm Nightly Last Version with Recovery .
Format Ur SD Card throw ur laptop \PC
When u boot to New CM go Settings > Storage > Format SD Card after that u will be asked to use it as internal or external , use it as internal so it will be added to ur internal 10GB without using app2sd any more =) ..
*Recommendation : use Class 10 SD card only otherwise ur phone will become slow ! .

But two questions:
The App ES File Explorer just shows one internal storage. Correct so far, bu I have 10GB intern and 60GB extern SD, so there should be 70GB internal storage shown. But ES FIle Explorer just shows 60GB internal storage. Is this a bug? Do I have to worrie?
Under the system settings -> storage I can see the internal 10GB and the external 60GB seperately. Does the system take care of the "migrate files" it self in order to lower the usage of the real internal storage? Or do I have to go the the settings time to time in order to click the "migrate files" manually?

i wouldnt recomend doing a partition, as cm always did it for me, it recognizes only the ext4 partition and says cant mount as link2sd, so if you want link to sd, then try not patitioning the card, worked fine on mine once..

use the phone as it is and dont look @ how many gb throw EFS manager , u have 70 GB and u have huge amount of saving , just keep ur sd card backup 60gb is large but hope u dont save much on it without backup , much data saved = much tears if lost !. GD luck .

ok, thanks a lot. The system is working fine now, but I now wanted to create a backup from the fully furnished phone and TWRP is not able to do so. On the internal memory TWRP says "not enouph space" and on the external (/external_sd/) it saysy out of memory. So how can I now create a backup?
Before the new external sd extension for the internal memory i was able to create backups, but with the new setting it seems impossible.

u can make ur SD card 2 partitions , backup ur sd then Format it then throw TWRP just partition the Sd Card 2 partitions . Will work .. GD Luck !

ok, in theory there must be two partitions on the sd card:
most of the memory as extention for the internal android storage
a little free space as fat32 for backups and as "external sd card"
But I am not able to achieve this. I tried this:
first idea: formatting on computer, then put it in phone and select "extend for internal storage" for the first partition. but then the phone formats the whole sd card and the second fat32 partition disappears
second idea: backup the extended partition, then formatting and creating the two partitions and restore the backup to the first partition. but the "android extended partition" can not be read by my programs. So how can I achieve this? Or is there an other way?

Your life will be easier if you use MiniTool Partition Wizard. Fully wipe your card, then repartition with EXT4 through that.

I already used this program. It is a very useful tool, but it didn't work.
I did it like the following:
put sd out of phone into computer
start MiniTool and wipe
delete all partitions
create two new partitions: first a primary fat32 at the beginning of the sd card (10GB) and on the rest at the end create a second primary ext4 partition (50GB)
wait until finish, unplug from pc and back into phone
reboot phone
in the android menu under "storage" klick on the 50GB ext4 partition
over the menu klick on "use as internal storage extention", but then he warns that the fully sd card will be formatted. when I klick no, he returns to the previews menu. If I klick yes, he creates a 60GB unreadable "android_extended" partition and adds this to the internal storage. So my little fat32 partition will get lost
What am I doing wrong?

Don't click yes , just click No and reboot .

If u format throw TWRP 2 partitions into TWRP u can find only backup partition and into ur system u can find the second as SD and the other into internal under name ext-Sd2

My apologies for necroing this. I picked the two first entries in google. Just in case somebody else finds the same problem
The OP was doing FINE with his/her partitions. Link2sd and titanium backup can have issues placing the mount scripts in the correct place
