I was skiing this past weekend and we found an iphone 5 on the slopes. We turned the phone on and a message appeared on the screen saying this phone is lost and if found please call number XXX-XXX-XXXX.
Which we did and the person got their phone back.
Is there an app similar to this for the Android? I know not everyone would return the phone but just in case it would be nice to have a message appear on it and track the phone too.
Thanks
Sorry I posted in the wrong section before.
Google has android device manager that can remotely locate your phone, even wipe the data on it if you want. It can even play a siren from your phone if you lost it in the couch or something and you have it on silent.
Also if you just google something simple like lost phone app, you'll get hundreds of alternatives from security companies.

Cerberus is a popular choice and one I would recommend.. read through the features.

That's what I was thinking of but couldn't remember. Plus there's a thread on here somewhere explaining how to get a free lifetime subscription

I have where's my droid.
I use PhoneLocater Pro. I've been using it for years. It works great and does everything you would ever want to do with a lost phone. It's definitely worth a look.
I use Avast! antivirus which also has a module called Anti-theft. Not only can you put a message on the screen, but you can control it by SMS commands to lock it down, turn a siren on, wipe the phone, etc. If you get the paid version, you can even take a picture of the culprit.

HI Folks,
Most of you will be aware of the Samsung Dive account where one can track the location of the phone and remote wipe it etc.
I am aware of other apps on the market that replicate some of theses features but haven't found one that allows the finder of the phone means to contact the owner to return it.
What I would like is the lock screen to have a "phone owner" facility as well as the emergency call button.
I like to have the phone locked to prevent unauthorised use should it go missing but its doesn't help an honest person who might find the phone to return it.
Anyone seen an app that has this function?
Or make an app to do it, I would pay for an app that could do it.
Thanks
Del
Bump..Anyone?

Why not try using a 'low-tech' solution & putting your contact details on a sticky label on the back - or a note between the phone and case. Remember your phone might be found by an old dear who doesn't even know how to turn it on!
Come to think of it, you could also use an invisible marker to write your house number & postcode under the battery (and on the battery) - this is one of the first things the police will look for if they recover your phone, or come across someone with it in their possession in 'suspicious circumstances'.
Well that made me smile, yes a perfectly good solution to the problem, and i will be doing that as it would still work even if the battery was dead
Would still like the over engineered solution too if its available or if anyone is making a security app for the phone to incorporate it as a feature.
The app called "Android Lost" lets you place a note saying whatever you want it to. You can also trace it with GPS, set an alarm etc.

That's a great app, can't believe its free.
Tested it out and it works a treat.
Hey, this it's my first time posting and I had a question for you guys.
Does anyone here use Lookout Mobile Security?
I've seen a lot of screenshots of homescreens and I never see the Lookout icon on the notification bar.
Is it not needed or do you guys use
something different?
Thanks for your help!

That's a good question. I guess I just downloaded it assuming that I need it. Is the antivirus useless then?
Also, it backs up my pictures/contacts and has the "locate phone" feature. Are there any other apps that can do this?
Thanks

Not sure I need one either, but I have BitDefender Mobile on my phone.

I used this thing for quite a while.....its great in theory. Here are the things that made me un-install it.
1) Could not locate my phone through GPS while indoors
2) website continuously said that message failed to be delivered to my phone while trying to make my device scream.....although I got every one of them and phone would not scream.
3) most importantly while doing batch updates from the market I would have to sit there and watch not only each app being downloaded and installed....but then had to wait for lookout to scan each one...which ultimately made the update process SLLLOOOOWWW.
I initially installed this just for the phone locator service but Wheres My Droid does that and it works great. IDK but maybe the paid version of Lookout is better but WAAAYYYY to expensive for a app that is technically NOT NEEDED.
I use WaveSecure... it does all the same stuff except virus protection. Everytime I've tested it, the lock has worked. I haven't tested the remote wipe feature. Also, I have it set so that once a day, it will backup all my pictures and sms and whatever else it offers backup for. That way, if I have to wipe it, I'll have all my stuff.
I used it for a while on my captivate. I stopped using it because when ever I had it installed the market would stall periodically. It would sit and say it was downloading something. Clearing the market didn't help, but uninstalling lookout would.
I use Google+ to auto upload my pictures, and SMS backup+ to back up SMS and call logs to my gmail account.
I never tried the locate, scream or wipe features so I don't miss them. I did notice WP7 included them built in, and worked well. Apple has integrated some now too. I think its only a matter of time before Google does the same.

Hi! I would like to know app (free if is possible) to get my phone back if I loss it or if my phone is stolen. I have heard about Cerberus that is a very good application, but I would like some opinions about it.
Thanks in advance!
If it work's in your country Samsung Dive. Free and available out of the box.
I personally use PhoneLocatorPro, very much like Dive but this can take pics on attempted failed login when you have pin/pattern etc activated.
Also like the fact as like Dive you can place it into system/app so you can turn GPS off but when tracking on website it activates GPS.
There are free alternatives, search the market and read user reviews.
You can find a roundup of many apps here: http://www.androidpolice.com/topics/features-2/mobile-security-app-shootout/
Avast mobile for android all free with remote wipe etc etc
Works for most.
One great feature of Samsung Dive is that it is not controlled by SMS, I say this because those can be blocked with the wrong settings. Here is a real life example that happened to me personally.
1: I installed Avast on my sisters Android phone (not Samsung so no Dive)
2: I tested the locate feature and it worked
3: A couple months go by and some app updates occured. Specifically Go SMS which suddenly turned on the feature to stop multiple notifications by blocking other SMS apps (I have been confused by this before on other phones until I figured it out)
4: Suddenly I went to use the locate feature and it never worked because Go was blocking it.
Luckily I wasn't trying to find a lost phone but just cheaping out on asking for directions to a birthday party.
I may suggest using two, Dive and another. For features from both.

Here's the best advice: Take a note of your IMEI number, as if and when you lose or have your phone stolen, the first thing to go is your SIM. Phone your network provider, and ask them to block the phone completely by giving them the IMEI number and your mobile number.
They will do this for you, as I have done this before. This will render the phone completely useless to the thief. You can then have your same phone number ported back on to another new sim if you want with the balance added.
Also its handy for the police report/Insurance claim etc.
And a few day's later I got a call from the police that the phone was in a local phone shop! The Idiot took it there to try and get it sorted, but the guy new the IMEI was locked/Barred and inquired about it, and contacted the police.
So happy day's
PS I got a new one fron the insurance anyway so beware, they can flash your firmware and get rid of all your fancy anti thief, but cannot change your IMEI
FPMen
You should try Avast, it is a very good app, I use it too, but you should take care of your beloved phone!
Thanks for your answer! I will try some free app and I will copy my IMEI too... every thing that I could do to protect my phone... I will do it!
im using netqin security..
My favourites are seekdroid, androidlost, lookout and avast. I use them all.

+1 for Avast. They bought the really nice app Theft Aware, and they improved and integrated their features into Avast. It's especially useful with rooted phones (offers more security), but works with non-rooted devices also. The best thing about it is that you don't require a network connection for it to work (like Samsung Dive does); and it can force data connection on, so you can connect with Dive . You can control the app via SMS. And it's also free on the market.

+1. Been playing with it since last night, it really is excellent.
You can get rid of the virus scanner/firewall bloatware easily too.
+1 for avast, really nice app
avast is good because it needs no internet connection to work. Most anti-theft apps only work when connected to the internet...
i first installed avast, then installed the anti-theft and gave it a nicen ame
then i unstalled the anti-virus because i dont need it and it uses to much battery.
I would really recommend hxxp://phonelocatorpro.com/ only cost about $4.

just downloaded this and it works spot on, even takes a photo if they try putting in wrong passwords to unlock the phone and emails it to you
works very very well well worth the £4
My wives phone nightly is attempting (and succeeding) to backup her entire music library, pictures and videos to their server. We've disabled the sync and we're not subscribed to Vcast. It wouldn't be a huge problem except that her line isn't unlimited data and she's barely under her data allowance each month. I'm unlimited and I still don't use near the data her phone claims she does. I'm on XDA so you know I'm VERY data intensive. Comes with the territory right? Has anyone else ran into this problems? If so do you have any solutions?

Is the phone rooted?
If so, just delete the VCast files from /system/app
Alternately (and probably safer if possible) you can try to see if you can "disable" any VZW services that you're not using by going to Settings > Apps > All Apps. Find the Vcast service app (and also probably HTC Media Upload Service), select them, and hopefully the "Disable" button is available for those apps.
Disable button is a benefit of having a 4.0 and above ROM. Unfortunately I've not rooted these phones so it's not even an option. Good suggestion though.

Ahh, boo. You're right.
OK, so go into the accounts section in settings and make sure the HTC account is disabled and none of the services are set to sync. I can't remember the GB interface off the top of my head so I can't be more specific right now, sorry..
But without root, you'll likely have to figure out how to shut the service down via its interface in the settings menu.
The basic info/solution tech support offered was to watch when it attempts to start and disable data. She could find no logical reason for it to act like it is .

That hardly seems like a solution. So basically they say you have to babysit your phone and disable data when it tries to do something you haven't told it to do?
If it were me, I'd bite the bullet and wipe it. Hopefully she used the Google services for contacts and stuff instead of VZWs so most everything should automatically come back. I'd rather spend a day restoring my phone than have to bother with monitoring it all the time because its acting up for unknown reasons..
Might as well take this as your opportunity to unlock the bootloader and root it too, since the unlock process forces you to wipe the phone anyways..
Plus once you unlock it, you can use Amon Ra to do nandroid backups and then your phone is forever protected from stupid things like this, as long as you backup every now and then.
Go to settings > accounts & settings . Look for any Verizon or vcast account, you click it, unchecked box for "backup music"
Just unlock it and put ICS on!
Problem solved.
Did she go on to her My Verizon page on the Verizon website? I noticed this new Vcast cloud feature when I was changing features on my phone's service last night. (I removed wifi Hotspot since the Hotspot app on the Rezound doesn't work properly and they ain't gonna fix it anytime soon.) Under the features section their are several cloud options. The default 500 megabytes options is Free and was already active on my features even though I don't remember activating it. However, there was an option to remove this feature. Might be worth a try.

Hello, my Girlfriend has an admirer which started out as a good friend. He confessioned his love for her some time ago and started to become more and more aggressive while being rejected. He recently started to show some stalker like behavior and started to appear near her flat at late nighttime.
He also hinted, that he always knew when she was chatting with my through Whatsapp. I'm therefore afraid that he might have installed some Spysoftware on her Android-Phone (HTC One X+)
TL;DR
Is there a way to identifyWhatsapp Spysoftware and to remove it?

There is a messaging app called whatsapp, I've never used it so I don't know how she could remove him as a contact on there or just get rid of the app.
Personally I use lookout mobile security for virus/spyware. But a scanning app may not flag messaging apps as spyware, no matter how flexible it may be with its users info.

While this can be done. I doubt he has the know how on how to pull it off and is just making noise. Worst case would be to catch him doing it and call the cops.
She would have to remove him in her contacts list for the app

do a factory reset. just to be safe.

try this
about whatsappp it's indded simple to know when sbody is chatting, on every messaging window just under the contact name there is the last contact log, if in chat says online, even if chatting with another one... so maybe no spyware on her phone, just a smart stalker, but she can freeze him simply long press on stalker name in whatsapp contact list and block, also in android contact add him and from menù choose "send all call to voice box" or similar after choose a fake number as phonebox, doing this her phone is virtually not reachable from the stalker
plus add his number in a black list, you can find a lot of call blocker app in the market
and last but not least call the cops
