[Q][LWW] Standby battery life - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi guys,
So I've been struggling to get decent standby battery life on this phone. I've seen the best results with the stock GB/ICS with nothing else installed when the phone would last for 3+ days. Any other setup drains 2-3% every hour, even with sync/GPS/BT/WiFi/overclock off (only mobile data on). Tried multiple ROMs and kernels. Any idea if I can do better?

turn off mobile data!
hi! You should turn off mobile data, and say result OK?

I'll test tonight. Right now I'm using the LegacyXperia 4.4 ROM.

hey what's the result....
if you still not satisfied with your battery backup then try the following:
1) change the no. of background processes to 2 in developers settings.
2) change the cpu governor to conservative.
3) change io scheduler to RAW.
4) change your network type to 2g.
4) in performance settings change power profile to power saving.
that's what I do get a decent battery life. Hope it helps you to.
If I helped you then hit thanks button.. :good:

So yeah that did the trick! With mobile data off it is down to <1%/hour.
Is there a chance I can keep mobile data on and get good battery life? I have a very minimalist setup which does not use data in the background and sync is off. Apps only respond to push notifications. Not sure why having data on takes a toll on battery life.

just turn on it when you need that!

hi! no it is not possible because all roms spend a lot of battery if mobile data turned on, just turn on it when you need that, then everything will OK!

Hi
If you turn off your mobile date and closed all apps, your battry life will be higher

Well, first thing first. Let us know what ROM, kernel, and radio you are using. Those things are the major factors that effect your battery life.
Also, what is your current setcpu settings?
1025MHz max/245MHz min are the stock frequencies. Setting the CPU above that will have an impact on your battery life. I really don't find a reason to overclock this phone.
If your using SetCPU, setting up a "Screen Off" profile is a must. Set it to 245min/max, so that when the screen is off, the CPU runs at a very minimal speed, saving you a lot of battery life.
I also recommend using Green Power. It is a free app in the market. It is a lot like Juice Defender, only I think it's simpler to use.
You can set the app to turn off data when your screen is off, and turn back on when you turn the screen on. Also, you can set it to turn data on (for example) every hour, for 1 minute to sync your data, then turn back off, this way you will still get your notifications.
I find it helps my battery a lot.
Thanks I will try that. I was using Ginger3dth3ory radio mr2 i think and i dont remember the kernel. I just flashed another ROM and its synergy_rls1-mecha kernel is [email protected] #1 and i assume the radio is the same since i dint get a new one. setcpu is set at 1024/245.

[Q] 50% Battery drain overnight.

Hi, today I woke up and noticed that overnight (7 hours) my battery dropped from 99% to 47%. I looked in better battery stats and I noticed that my phone was running at 900CPU all the time. I really have no idea how can that be happening, until today everything was fine and I haven't installed any new app. I am running Omega 29 with Phenomenal normal kernel. Would full wipe and reinstalling ROM help?
Thanks

Check your battery stats and see what it was doing, could be anything from Apps running in background (Sync, GPS...)
If there is an app there that drained it, you don't need to get rid of it, put your phone into Power Saving or download a 3rd Party app called Juice Defender. That will stop it. Also if you don't want to do that, you can just Force Close the App that used your battery at night and leave it at that.
Oddly tested mine overnight wifi and gps off 150 apps .
12 hours 2 % drain and that's the usual .

Delete Facebook.. , Disable media server,
Two things to keep your CPU awake..
I checked all of that, but like I said, only thing I noticed was that phone was running at 900CPU all the time, and I don't know why.

Since it's Omega go into S Tweaks Scroll down the bottom to CPU Scaling and select one of the others on the Drop Down Menu, (pegasusq) try the others. Hopefully that will do the trick. Do not underclock the device under 800 as it will c*ck up the phone.

Isn't that for Siyah Kernel only?
I'm having similar issues of battery drain on Omega V29 and Siyah Kernel but its mainly when the screen is on, my current cpu scaling profile is set to 'lulzactive'. Could this be the cause of my drain?

If in doubt Recovery Mode. Wipe data/cache then Calvin and fix permissions. Then flash Rom again. Check each app you download their permissions and comments

[solved] [Q] data usage - mobile data - on/off -> difference

Hey everybody!
I have a question: In android 4.0 and above there is the option in the data usage settings, to turn mobile data on and off.
What difference does it exactly make? As fas as I tested, I still can take a look at my mobile data usage, even though it is tuned off in the data usage settings.
According to this source of Google
http://support.google.com/android/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1638168
turning it off means:
If it's off, you won't be able to use mobile data at all and many features of your phone and apps won't work correctly.

Anybody knows what they mean by "...use mobile data at all..." (since I still have 3G) and what features there could be?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Michael
Sometimes it takes a while for the data to toggle off. I personally just use airplane mode on my phone and it cuts off my data fairly quickly.

How to make your razr/razr maxx last longer with data connectivity always on(WIP)

This is a thread to help those who want to get the best battery life out of their phones. It works for both the razr/razr maxx GSM models, and should work for the CDMA models although I'm not too sure since I dont own one. The basis of this battery saving tip is the use of 2G when not using data-heavy applications and only toggling 3g when required. I've personally gone 6 days on a single charge with this, with about 3-4 hours of screen on time, push emails, facebook, whatsapp and im+pro on all the time.(take note I am using the Maxx). I know some people who turn off data connectivity when the screen is off, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a smart phone with push notifications.
turn away now if you cant bear to be disconnected from the network for a couple of seconds as it changes connectivity.
battery consumption for connectivity are as follows: 2G<WIFI<3G<LTE. Most push notifications work fine with 2G only.
Also, I will not be held responsible for any data-loss or bricked devices. Proceed with caution!
Prerequisites:
1. Rooted (doesnt matter if it's ICS/JB.)
2. ROM that allows for 2g/3g/LTE toggle (so far, AOKP, all CM-based roms work)
OR
3) Resign the stock-based rom of your choice using this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530
4)Tasker or any other APP that allows automation
5) Bootmenu manager to make a backup of your system in case anything screws up and to flash the toggle2g.apk
optional
6)motomizer for underclocking/undervolting and backups
7)push notifications fixer to make sure you always stay connected to the google server for push notifications
8) Greenify for hibernating/closing programs that you dont need running when screen is off
9) Lux auto brightness to control the brightness settings, especially since we use an amoled screen, dark themes and lower brightness help immensely.
10) bloat freezer/titanium backup to freeze/delete all unneccessary bloatware
MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR SYSTEM USING BOOTMENU MANAGER BEFORE PROCEEDING FURTHER.
for the people already using custom roms(AOKP/CM/Liquidsmooth)
step 1
In tasker, add a new profile.
Under event->system->Device boot->new task->Net->mobile data 2g/3g->mode(choose 2G only)
this will allow tasker to choose 2G only mode whenever your device boots
step 2
New profile, select application and then choose all the applications you want to use 3G/LTE in. Add new task, under Net->mobile data 2g/3g->mode(choose 3g/LTE whichever you want). save the profile.
step 3
add an exit task for the 3G/LTE toggle ->Net->mobile data 2g/3g->mode(choose 2G only)
and you're basically done!
in the event where step 1 doesnt work(tasker says this action isnt allowed in your rom or something to that effect)
go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530 and flash the toggle2G.apk in recovery. if the app turns up in yoour device after reboot, follow the above steps, but instead of
new task->Net->mobile data 2g/3g->mode(choose 2G only), do this
new task->plugin-> toggle2g ->mobile data 2g/3g->mode(choose 2G only)
For people who prefer using the stock rom, this process will be harder(but still do-able)
step 1
Resign a stock-based rom of your choice(requires the .zip file of the rom). again, follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530
step 2
if you have done this successfully and you should now have the toggle2g apk shown in your app drawer.
In tasker, add a new profile.
Under event->system->Device boot->plugin-> toggle2g ->mobile data 2g/3g->mode(choose 2G only)
this will allow tasker to choose 2G only mode whenever your device boots
step 3
New profile, select application and then choose all the applications you want to use 3G/LTE in. Add new task, ->plugin-> toggle2g ->mobile data 2g/3g->mode(choose 3g/LTE whichever you want). save the profile.
step 3
add an exit task for the 3G/LTE toggle ->plugin-> toggle2g ->mobile data 2g/3g->mode(choose 2G only)
and you're basically done!
Now for the optional bits
1) push notifications fixer will help increase the reliability of your push notifications by decreasing the intervals your device sends heartbeats to the google server. I have mine set at 3 min intervals, and it has not affected my battery life in anyway.
link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andqlimax.pushfixer&hl=en
2) Motomizer expert. I have my phone undervolted/underclocked from 300 to 1000mhz. seems to have helped with any heat issues, and is solid as a rock. if anyone needs the value of the undervolt, I will post it later on request. the exper version also allows you to make app backups like titanium backup. Take note, the current Kexec roms will not work with motomizer.
3) Greenify helps to preserve battery by not allowing the apps you specify to run in the background.
link:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5vYXNpc2ZlbmcuZ3JlZW5pZnkiXQ..
Apps that run fine on 2G(WIP)
1)Web browsers
Opera browser Mobile - usually runs okay on 2g, not for people who want absolute speed. also not recommended for data/image intensive websites
Opera Beta - still in the beta stages of it's development, but looks promising, has an offroad feature that compresses data on their servers so your device doesnt have to download so much
I usually keep the native browser and set it to toggle 3g so I can use it for faster browsing when required
2) Chat applications -
apps that work
whatsapp, im+, IMO.im, beejive - these all work fine when just sending text. If sending images or downloading images, it will be better to turn on your 3g. Push notifications for whatsapp, im+ and beejive work perfectly fine (no delay)
apps that dont
line(naver) : This app behaves strangely. It receives push notifications just fine, but it requires a second download of the text after you open the app. The process is not only slow, it is prone to mix up as well. Avoid if using this battery saving method
Gtalk: the native app also doesnt work well with 2g. Use one of the above applications if possible.
3)RSS readers
RSS junkie: the best RSS reader I have used so far. It relies not only on push notifications, but you can set it to push the entire RSS article onto your device for speedy reading instead of having to download it
4)maps
Google Maps: If you have predownloaded the map you need it works pretty well. Set it to toggle 3g as well if you need to search for something.
5)email
Gmail application works well with 2g, unless the email is
1) image heavy
2) has a big attachment to download
set 3g to toggle if you are a user who fulfils the above 2 settings
Yea 2g saves so much battery, when I was on Ics I used to use superpower, it automatically changes to 2g when the screen s off and you can turn it to 3g through the notifica bar whenever u want, easy and batt saver! Now with CM10.1 I use the toggle I love it!

Updated the post with some apps that work well with 2g and some that dont. Please feel free to let me know about apps you've experimented with!
I envy your battery life.
I am lucky if my phone reaches 30hours with all the battery saving tips i know. I also have a razr maxx but i guess i got a defective battery that drains like a regular razr.

I used to last around 30hours as well on 3g all the time. the reception around my area is really bad, and sometimes drains up to 20-30% a night just on standby. That's when I started putting it on 2g and getting insane battery life
if you already have a rooted phone, you can try it out as well. I was pleasantly surprised with the result, and made sure all my iphone loving friends found out about it
Yeah my phone is rooted. Im quite sure that my battery is the problem of my phone coz i once tried to use a pure black wallpaper, 25%brightness and on 2g only but still got nearly 30hours battery life with just 3hours screen on time and average usage such as gaming, music and movies. Almost the same when i use it with a live wallpaper and 100% brightness. But still it is better than my colleagues who uses iPhone and s3 that barely survives 1day battery.
But during nighttime standby, my battery drains 10% only in 8hours.

you can still use toggle2g, but it will be more complicated. If you have bootmenu manager, do a backup of your 1st/main system. then resign the stock rom of your choice using the resign tool attached at the bottom of this post. after which, flash it to the 2nd/system where u can test it out and see if it performs to your expectation before migrating it to your 1st system.
Note: after you resign, the toggle2g app will appear in your app drawer automatically.
Step 3 add an exit task.. Can't manage to do that do to do it? I have cm10 on 2nd system

You have to long press on the original task of the profile. The popup will allow you to add an exit task

On Stock JB ROM and using 2G only for both standby and data. I am already satisfied with the battery life without any other tweaks.
Can't wait to root it and flash it with custom ROMs and test all the tweaks you mentioned. Thanks.
Personal recommendation, try the liquiddmooth ROMs. Very stable when I tested them, espexcially the release candidates

High Battery usage after fully charging the phone

I've noticed high battery usage (Kernel mostly) after fully charging the phone, have you noticed similar behavior?.
I've notice the process "qcom_rx_wakelock" is using a lot of CPU power and the phone has been idle since the last reboot

I guess our kernel filters set to "CAF defaults". That "qcom_rx_wakelock" (wifi configuration file) absolutely destroys the battery on most networks a specially through wifi network.
Go to WiFi>>>Advanced>>> activate Wi-Fi optimization.
and Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep "always"
And again I recommending you to activate Stamina.
