14.2.A.1.142 firmware certified for Xperia Z Ultra - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Xperia Blog is reporting that new firmware has been certified by the PTCRB with build 14.2.A.1.142. Hopefully, it should fix bugs seen with 1.136.

If it's not the KitKat update why bother? Put all effort on that update instead in my opinion.

All the users plagued by bugs (I'm one of those users) are hoping for an update to fix that.

I have no bugs to speak of. Have you done a reset? A new update will probably not fix bugs that are caused by updating.
If you haven't done a reset you can't complain about bugs.

Maybe you are not looking in the right places.
Sound enhancements at least have several bugs that I have posted about and found "fixes" that are completely retarded but work.
That shouldnt be happening. I am sure those are not the only ones though so while I would love a Kitkat, I dont mind a fixed 4.3 either.

what sony needs to do is to stop this minor updates and go strait to KitKat. that's why I never updated my ultra from 4.2.2 rooted. I don't see the need to update unless a major update is at hand with new features or something. as the old saying goes if it isn't broke don't fixit i'm happy with 4.2.2 with root. so no KitKat no update. KitKat with root that is.

The word on the street is kitkat will come simultaneously with the Z1 kitkat update in the end of February beginning of March sometime.
Sony has officially confirmed that the Z Ultra is among the first devices to receive kitkat.

yeah, hopefully.
Hope It's Something Good
the fact that the firmware is certified sadly doesn't mean anything except that it's certified. I've seen an ICS firmware for Play on ptcrb some time ago.
but, I don't wanna pee on your parade too much, I'm hoping for it too, maybe I'll update to ICS when (if) it'll be rolled out ^^

Fingers crossed
Hi
Well, putting that it will become an official update, how to take its benefits without losing our sweated customization?
Will be possible to flash just the kernel and something else?
I am happy to read it and expecting some great changes and bug fixes. IT is good to know that there is something new coming.. lets see..
Sony should provide us something Good and most of all bug-free.
xperia blog just posted about this on their site
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/08/09/new-ics-firmware-4-1-b-0-587-certified-for-six-2011-xperia-phones/
ouch, nothing new yet for lww
The new update still isn't showing on PTCRB. I expect it will probably be available during next week. Notice the difference in firmware details:
4.1.B.0.431
4.1.B.0.587
The last few digits give clues about the significance of changes. I'd expect bug fixes and maybe a new app or a change in an important app visually, or a new feature. It's not going to be huge but somewhat useful I guess.
yeah, but they could also release a not-so-good update (at least for us). Remember .62 and .69? all they seemed so do was to prevent users from rooting their devices.
I Just expect led bug is fixed, and the delay in the dialer and setting be removed in the meanwhile im happy with CM9

Well, I managed to get around such bugs on the official update.
ExDialer was awesome but gotta admit the default dialer looks godly, and the LED fix is good enough for everyday usage (unless you miss lots of calls).
The laggy stock homescreen was a huge disapointment for me, but luckily, there's the almighty Apex

[Q] getting my Z2 soon...answers?

Hey guys, purchasing my Z2 later this week hopefully but I have a few questions that are buggin me.
With the Z1 if you unlocked the bootloader it removed a camera software that made lower light performance worse, is that the case with the Z2? Or is camera quality the same?
is there actually ANYONE on here that has a non defective/ no issues with their device? All I see are complaints!
And last but not least, Has the latest update actually made the Z2 a lot faster?
Thanks

unlocking your bootloader on D65XX removes/breaks nothing at all
me and a freind have purchased two Z2s between us and it seems that the older model is poor quality and has bad issues but the one we bought a week ago has no issues
ill be buying a Z2 for my self and ill give any issues i have if any
sony have said that Z2s after mid may wont have "any issues"
the last update is an improvement but unfortionatly alot of bugs with the Z2 are still there
alot are actualy Caused by android 4.4.2, all of which are fixed in 4.4.3 the Z2 should recieve after certifacation from google
my opinion of the device:
i love the Z2 it is amazing, although the old model having some majour heating issues or random blackscreen flashes etc ive found to love the newer mid may bach device, it is extremly fast with minor things i dont like
things i dont like-
finger print magnet
too much bloatware
its made of glass (im rough with my phones - i managed to break a nokia 3310)
many others,
things i like-
fast as can be
looks simple, elegant
UI is awesome/fairly useful
sony Features i love
many others too
just ask if you want to know something

Unlocking the bootloader has no effect on the camera. Everything works except for video unlimited and music unlimited (i think).
I haven't had any problems with mine at all. Couldn't be happier.
402 is a good firmware, even the stock one seemed very polished to me. The phone is very snappy and smooth. Excellent device.

I heard it was something to do with removing BIONZ software, if the bootloader unlocked then it could be copied by other OEMs, that's why they removed it. but not sure.

Very plausible, the Z2 doesn't have BIONZ, at least not in software form. It does have X-Reality but that works after you unlock the bootloader. In any case, feel free to unlock, there are virtually no drawbacks. Do what I did and make sure you cash in on your free music, movies and apps first though, I believe once you're unlocked you can't use those codes. Not sure.
The only thing is, as of right now there's no way to backup the TA partition on the Z2 but honestly, I haven't found one reason not to unlock the bootloader yet.
** Edit: Z2 has BIONZ image processing, sounds like they implemented it via hardware this time.
X-Reality does not work on unlocked Z2 with the latest stock rom (.402).
Fortunately, there is a patch that bring it back

I thought the 5.1.1 for Z2 and Z3 has come more than a month ago. "in the coming weeks" BS..
Don't get me wrong, but i've had enough memory leak issue on 5.0.2. All Apps getting closed in some random time.. Ugghh..
EDIT: XperiFirm is your best friend
EDIT 2: Any thoughts or patch note for 14.6.A.1.216?

CM FTW. I've learned to only purchase devices that has active CM support or will definitely have in the near future. Once the device is delivered and CM is available for it I'll flash CM straight away and never go back to stock again. Same for the ZU I got.

[WARNING: XDA Premium 4.0.13+ lacks Signature function - do not update]
It's been told a few times before, 5.0.2 doesn't have memory leaks, just sayin'... It will come when it will be ready
Might not have mem leaks, but it has many issues (some of which were introduced in 5.0 and now we're waiting another version to get to previous levels of functionality) and some very serious security problems.
you know. I was wondering the same thing too where is the darn update to 5.1.1 I have big bugs on 5.0.2 the darn Bluetooth disconnects from my watch when I play some games, sound problems and some app don't works. a can only hope the sony hurry up and get that update with bugs fixed. this is why I'm using lollipup on my z ultra and KitKat on my z tablet compact cos KitKat works better then........hurry up sony........
You both guys have Chrome installed do you? Uninstall it right away, it's a totally different without it... I was amazed how this thing is making everything so slow
I am getting sick of waiting too
Even started to think we may not get it at all
I've been wondering too. I'm on Resurrection rom, but the battery is too short even with all the Xposed tweaks, so I really hope 5.1.1 Xperia firmware comes out soon, so that I can have a long battery life phone again.

More RAM i suppose but by deleting chrome you don't solve this. I deleted Chrome right after updating to 5.0.2 and i have still similar issues that some of users described here. I guess we need to wait for 5.1.1 and hope for fix. Btw 5.1.1 firmware was certified yesterday so it should roll out soon.
Main problem Ive got is dead background services and every app after switching. I think this can be solved only by increasing amount of ram or changing os.

Yeah, even sometimes Walkman is dying when i am listening music while browsing the web with Chrome. Switching to Firefox, even worse.. Grrr..
Any radio or music app closes when i open any other application.
So i end up using two phones, one for music and other for whatsapp and chrome.

I will be VERY surprised if they fix even ONE THIRD of the issues I see on my z ultra. ONE THIRD.
Hell, I would be perfectly happy if they just let us disable content adaptive backlight, like in the first rom, before they stupidly removed the option and instead of permanently disabling, they permanently enabled it
@d1g1m4n @hansip87 I'm using CM Browser for internet and Greenify to keep apps closed and I can listen to music and browse without any problems even with Viper4android, Chrome is just a piece of crap, it use the ram that lie on the table
@tsiros Yeah buddy, exactly. Remember how they were supposed to fix Kitkat bugs in Lollipop? They fixed a bunch but introduced a second bunch of them
Now that it has been certified we can just cross our fingers and wait but I'm not getting my hopes high given that I had 4 Sony Android phones and I don't thing they have changed that much in just a few months, y'know, it's Sony
I always got 300-400 mb ram free, no matter what am i doing or what apps hibernated in greenify, but backgr apps closing anyway.

Anybody know when will Z5C update to Android 6.0?

5.11 have a bug of power consumption.
If i recall right it took almost 6 months from sony to update z1 from kitkat to lollipop from a lollipops release day. And there is no quarantee that marshmellow will give you better battery life.

Network standby costs a high percentage of the battery, find some solution that need to modify the adb to fix it, it is very complex.
The z3c was updated in March.
End of December if you ask me. Telstra will give the z4 tab update in january so it is safe to say that we will get it in December
I'm betting on a January release timeframe but this is not based on any source. We do know that they're already testing Marshmellow on Z3 and Z3c models in limited beta so at least we know they've already started.

How does Telstra (Australia) have anything to do with the general Z5C Marshmallow ETA, unless they are your Telco?
The other 99.9% of Z5C users will have zero interest in when Telstra decide to "give" an update anything.
Hopefully non branded Marshmallow will arrive prior to the end of the year.
Bruh. Branded firmwares get the update AFTER the unbranded ones usually. So that's what I meant. So Telstra giving an update does matter

Come on...
He shared that information to estimate a possibility range for the Z5C.
If a carrier is going to release 6.0 in January for another Sony device, You could assume that the OTA for the Z5C/Z5, current flagships, (in general) will be before January.
Sent from my E5823
Sorry, Being a bit harsh. I wouldn't rely on a Telstra estimate thats all. If the Sony OTA is delayed, Telstra will simply kick the ball down the road.
Yes that's also true. Since the carriers doesn't have the final word for an update.

When will be the final firmware published

Hey Guys,
I'm using my z5c with 32.4.a.0.160. There are lots of issues even with disabling the movie creator app.
I wonder when will the final update come. Do you guys think our devices get android 8.0 ?
LOL. Nope. I think the current update (7.1.1) will be the last update. Android 8.0 is confirmed *not coming* to the Z5 line.

I have updated to .160 too and I don't have any issues, actually it's even better than 7.0 for me. I flashed an ftf, factory reset it and then flashed all my mods and it's been all good until now.
Also, there is a small chance we might get official 8.0 but i wouldn't count on it. It will only happen if a lot of Z5 series owners make a statement and demand the update. However, I don't count on that, judging on how things are developing.. Be sure though, there will be custom ROMS on 8.0

Custom roms unless proven otherwise will also probably mean loss of some camera features, loss of active noise cancelling and stereo(binaural) recordings with sony earphones,
no more radio FM RDS tuner, etc.
Sadly, Count me out !

We are from the old days, Sony is more developer friendly now and they release the kernel source and drivers. There is no reason why they should not work after some patching... The camera could be the casualty here though, you might be right.
