[Q] Recovery Stopped Working and Won't Boot! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just tried to install the latest version of Android to my HTC One, (Sense 5.5 Android 4.4) and I downloaded the ROM, then transferred it to my phone via USB and flashed it with Clockworkmod. The package partly installed but then I was shown "Error 7 Installation aborted", so I held the power and volume keys to boot into the screen with fastboot etc on it and tried to return to my recovery. It just flashed onto the screen for a second or so and then disappeared, followed by the HTC logo. I left this for 20mins+ before I tried again. Same thing. I really need help as I rely on my phone alot. Anything that would make my phone useable would help.
Thanks.

[Q] Help with recovery on Optimus One P500?

Ok, So I've recently updated to stock gingerbread 2.3.3 with baseband .35. I rooted my phone with the SuperOneClick method. Root was successful (Finally).
I then wanted to install a custom ROM, so I installed ClockworkMod's ROM manager, flashed the clockwork recovery image and everything. I decided to make a backup image in case I didn't like the new ROM. I then selected the "Backup Current ROM" option, and left my phone to it's own devices. When I got back about 5 minutes later, I find that I have a hard reset on my hands :| To add to that, I don't even have a backup image!
I tried doing that a couple times more, once, I even held the POWER+VOL.DOWN+HOME combo and all. The same thing happened each time. The recovery backdrop and a sliding progress appeared, after about 4 seconds, the progress bar stopped moving, it shifted back to the LG boot logo. If I kept the combo pressed, it would go on and on for about 5 times, if I released it, it would just continue on to the boot and I would get another hard reset every time. I tried "Reboot into Recovery". Same thing. Once, I selected "Install ROM from SD card", with the backup option selected. Somehow or the other, due to the combo or something, I came to a screen that had four options.
1) Reboot
2) Install from SD card:update.zip
3) Wipe data
4) Wipe dalvik cache and cache
I was able to scroll up and down with the volume rocker, but the only other button that worked was the Home button, which toggled between the screen I mentioned above and a screen where all of the text was removed and there was just the recovery background. I finally popped out the battery and booted, and got yet ANOTHER hard reset.
HELP!
It seems Clockworkmod recovery was not flashed correctly. What you see is the stock android recovery. The recovery key mapping is:
volume rocker-up/down
menu (left most button)- select current option
back - go back
the behaviour you see when pressing the home button is normal.
After using Rom manager to install CWM recovery, it is not recommended to do further operations through rom manager, best uninstall it. Instead, boot into recovery using the three button combo and do operations from there.
I would suggest try again to re-flash CWM recovery.

Thanks, but do you have any idea WHY using ROM manager is a bad idea? Just curious.

Well, one reason I've encountered is that while flashing cwm recovery, if the download fails for some reason, Rom mananger has flashed the incorrectly downloaded file without verification resulting in a fastboot semi-brick for many users.
Another reason is related to the way it operates the recovery. I'm not very sure about this point, but I've seen many people having problems with backups and flashing.
Thanks, you were brilliant. I flashed another recovery from ClockworkMod, this time with a WiFi connection, and everything worked great.

Frozen TF201

Hi All -
I tried to get on my TP today (which was working fine last night) and it is suddenly frozen on the Asus splash screen. My device is stock everything, unrooted, no CWM. I tried putting the latest firmware on an SDcard and booting from the card via the volume + power button. It says booting recovery kernal image then it signature match and then it just does nothing. Any ideas? What am I missing?
Thanks so much.

[Q] CM10 Splash Screen Loop on Atrix

First time poster, did a lot of searching before posting but still can't find an answer.
I've got an Atrix 4g rooted and unlocked bootloader ( installed Notattrix 1.3.1 for awhile and it worked fine, but wanted to move on)
My volume keys recently stopped working so i can't move around nor get into CWM without using CWM touch and booting into the Recovery from the software on the phone. Once into recovery since i had the CWM touch I could get into and install the new CM 10. It installed fine and then when i reboot it I get the Splash screen loop.
I tried booting into the CWM with the adb commands but it shows my device's SN but its showing up as offline.
I had enabled the USB debugging before installing the new ROM.
I was on 2.3.6 and 4.5.141
Am I screwed? Thanks

touchscreen not working in recovery

i have been having some problems flashing roms. i keep getting errors. i tried the latest pacman rom and dirty unicorns rom and both have an error. so i tried updating to the newest twrp recovery. and going down one version as well to see if it would help. anyways now i am stuck in recovery, my touch screen wont work, and twrp has a screen lock that i cant get out of because i cant slide the slider since my touch screen wont work. how do i get back to boot loader so i can flash another version of the recovery so i can get my phone back!!! help!
Boot loader: volume down+power. Hold until you are in bootloader mode.
Once there flash the latest RUU for your device (assuming you are S-OFF).

you just need usb otg and use a usb mouse to control your screen
when htc went to 4.3 from 4.1.2 they made sure to change the screen so that people that tried to downgrade messed up their phone and went back to 4.3

Haha that's funny. Anyways I fixed it. I tried the volume and power keys like normal for hours and nothing happened. Finally, per another thread somewhere, I held the phone under a light and bam it reboots and I refreshed. BUT I still can't flash any other roms it seems. Viper rom 4.2.0 works. But so far no other roms work. Right now I'm on a gummy nightly rom. But I can't even update that. It says an error every time

Lenovo TAB S8-50F won't boot, help!

I'm not a n00b, I've rooted every Android device I've ever had, and I have my OnePlus Two running the latest CM14.1 nightlies. But I can not figure out what to do for this poor tablet.
I had downloaded and installed an OTA from Lenovo, but it must have been corrupt because the tablet got stuck in a boot loop. I can boot into recovery, so I tried formatting it and clearing all the caches, then it goes to a screen with a loading bar, which fills completely and just sits there. I've left the thing on all night. Nothing.
Sending it to Lenovo is a no-go because I voided the warranty when I rooted it.
I've also tried reinstalling the stock firmware, but the Intel phone flash tool either get's blocked by Windows 10 (with no way to whitelist it) or fails to flash properly.

What I've tried:
Just plain booting it - screen turns on and doesn't do anything, just black
Rebooting through recovery (power + vol_up) - plays boot animation, goes to a screen with a loading bar like it does after an update, but once the bar fills, a white line appears at the top of the screen and nothing happens
Downloading the official KitKat firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/lenovo-tab-s8-50f-stock-firmware-rom-t2989791), unarchiving the rar file and rearchiving it into a .zip, putting it on a MicroSD card, putting the card in the tablet, flashing through recovery - can't find the .zip, says SD card is blank
Clearing caches and wiping data - same as when rebooting through recovery
Using the Intel phone flash tool through bootloader (power + vol_down) - tool can't find device
Using the same tool through fastboot (power + vol_up + vol_down) - gets to the sleep 4000 ms step, reboots the device, then the device goes to the same loading screen and the flash tool can't contact it. I think it's trying to boot into the OS to finish the flash, but that's the problem to begin with
I've tried loading the temporary CWM session but that fails
I can't for the life of me figure out what the @bailka011 Unlock Tool is supposed to do or how to use it, plus the download link isn't working.
Can someone please guide my through this? I'm so confused

what did it says the update would do? android 6.0? latest update for this tablet was released 7 months ago... the unlock tool u mentioned unlocks the bootloader, and try to find a win7 pc to do the flashing. some users on a different forum stated that windows 10 will cause problems during flashing
good luck

This update was seven months ago. It did not claim to bring 6.0, just minor fixes.
Thank you for clearing that up, now I just have to figure out how to download and use it xD.
Also I have figured out how to enable the hidden administrator account in Win10 and use that to get around the security warning, still tries to boot partway through flashing. Unless there's some other part of Win10 that's disagreeing with it.
