Sometimes when I leave home I forget to turn my WiFi off and it keeps connecting to any open networks wherever i go. I went into the WiFi settings and there are only a few options there and I tried all different combos but i still keep auto connecting. What am I missing?

Under WiFi settings, goto Advanced, and uncheck "Scanning Always Available", by default this is on, even when WiFi is off.

I think I misunderstood your question...if it's actually connecting to the network, it's because at some point you've connected to it before and it's a saved network. Next time it connects to it, go to WiFi settings and forget the network.

Does your connection auto-switch between wifi and 3g?
I was out earlier and the wifi was still locked onto to my home network yet I was no where near home. I wasn't able to browse etc as there was obviously no connectivity. I would have expected it to switch over to 3g or H.

Anything I might be doing wrong? Or settings that may need tweaking?

Could it be down to the fact that I have gps turned off so phone cannot track position? Do you leave this on permanently and if so what's the battery drain like with it on?
Let's get some response on this please. I would like to determine if I have a faulty device and whether I need to start arranging a return.
Thanks
I have GPS on, but it doesn't use any battery unless an app tries to use it. But I don't think this has anything to do with your issue. There aren't any settings that I've changed. Try a reboot.

Y5 Saver
There's a very good app called Y5 Saver - https://market.android.com/details?id=pl.polidea.y5 which autoturns your wifi on/off depending whether your in the proximity of the wifi router (uses network triangulation).
Only issue is that it seems to override 'airplane mode'.
Has anyone observed that wifi connection is interrupted when phone resumes from sleep ie when unlocked.

it was selected on mine after instaling 2.3, so i guess its the standard config. they've put

So on all my other phones I had this option I could toggle. It was a great battery saver also! But it doesn't seem to be on the note? Is there a way to toggle this?
Also any word on missing apps from international ver making it to our phone? Or being ported by a dev?

Look up 4G toggle on Google Play for quick access to turning mobile data on/off.
Look up Tasker on Google Play to have your phone turn mobile data off when the screen is off.
If not Tasker, you can get GreenPower or JuiceDefender to do it.

Prior to enabling wifi tether you must enable mobile data first.Your device will be used as access point so it will disconnect from your modem/router and must have an internet connection to share. So turn mobile data on!!

I'm not daft, it was working. When I turn it on it starts it up then about 3 seconds a box pops up saying a error accrued during tethering. I've tried refreshing my stock Rom and a custom same problem, I don't know if its a problem with my build? It's not a hardware problem I dont think

I've searched and the similar threads seem different and don't work with this phone. I turn off Wifi and not long after its on again. I've gone into the Wifi settings and turned everything relevant off but it's still happening. Anyone know wtf?

Sounds like Connection optimizer is on.

Are you rooted? I was on frezza's beast mode kernel, all versions seemed to not allow wifi to shut off. Also had problems staying connected to my home wifi. Now I'm not saying the kernel is the problem but when I restored the stock kernel everything works again. Haven't posted in the developers forum but also haven't seen anyone in there with the same issue.

Yep, go to Settings > Connections tab > More networks > Mobile networks > Connections optimizer to turn it off.
