Getting ready to go to work questions - AT&T LG Optimus G

Hi guys I normally will search for the questions I have but im short on time and would like to know, 1. Is there a stock kittkatt rom that's flashable once rooted? Is rooting quick and easy with this phone? Thanks for allowing me this 1 time lazy Q and A.

Rooting is easy and fast and getting a recovery on it as well. Now to ur stock KitKat question. NO. But there are many custom Roms u can choose from.

[Q] need to root first, then flash flappjaxxx rom?

Hey guys, i'm a noob to the rooting/flashing rom world. i was going to wait for ICS to officially come out on att, but i'm tired of waiting.
my question is, do i need to root and then flash flappjaxxx rom? i see that in the descriptions, it says:
-Rooted with SuperSU included
does that mean i can just follow his instructions and my note will be rooted? or do i need to root first, and then flash?
thanks for any assistance!!
Did you see the sticky at the top of this section labeled "all in one noob guide"??? I think that may have what you're looking for. If you can't find it, you probably shouldn't flash. No offense meant by that, it's just that most problems people have and most bricks are caused by a lack of reading and following directions.

The Flappjaxx rom is already a rooted ROM. What you need to do is flash CWM using ODIN.
Pls refer to the "HOW TO" guide in the dev section. Everything you need to learn is there.
everyone's gotta start somewhere. thanks guys!!

That's right. But just a word of advice... before asking, always remember to do the reading first and research. Then if something doesn't make sense to you....thats the time you ask.
Yes, everybody does need to start somewhere, and that somewhere is reading as much as possible.

[Q] Noob questions on roms/kernal etc..

This is my first post and I can promise this forum that i will have no more nooby questions after this thread. So please don't hate on me to bad... I just have a few questions referring to roms and kernels....
1. Are roms and kernels similar at all? Can you only flash one or can both be flashed at the same time?? Like you flash blackstar rom and you find a kernal. Could I flash the kernel and still keep rom? i know what roms are.. What are kernels used for?
2. This is last Q... What would be the best rom out as of December?? I've seen may roms... Padawan, blackstar, liquid smooth, etc... Which is the best?? Which would you recommend??
That will be all the questions I have... I thanks in advance for people willing to help me instead of telling me to just google it......
- matt
Dude just Google it.... Lol
Seriously at this point in your Android education you shouldn't be worrying about custom kernels. Just get used to working in recovery and flashing roms. Half of getting it right is making sure you have a rom that is for the SGHi717 and works well for you. So comb through the development section and read the threads, download the rom and give them a spin. Once you find a rom you like hit me up with a pm and ill help you find a custom kernel so you can overclock and/or under volt and such. Let us know?

Agreed with the above advice. Just look at roms for now. Concentrate your efforts on not bricking your phone. Read everything you can before trying to modify what the dev has put together. If you have other questions your welcome to come to the stupid question thread and ask here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32925977
Also a kind word of advice on your second question. I would consider removing it. Which rom is best threads are famous for turning into flaming threads.

[Q] Couple of noob ROM questions :o

I have my SGS2 rooted and now I'm looking to play around with ROMs. Now, I have a couple of noob questions regarding ROMs.
1. Is there any association between how I rooted the phone and a ROM?
2. Can I use another cell provider's stock ROM ? (e.g. e.x. have a Virgin stock ROM, want to use Vodafone)
3. I would like to add the hebrew language to my phone, so I would be able view everything in that language, would I have to install a ROM or would I be able to find an app for that?
Thanks for your patience with noobs like me
Cheers!

Flash a rom from the correct section - i9305 and you are fine
Also, posting in the i9305 section for related questions, will make sure you are more likely to get the right responses
Do you have the international S3? If you do then just make sure you flash a Rom from that section and not a U.S. version Rom. Read over the different rom's features and what works/doesn't work and choose the rom that you like the most. Don't worry, we all were afraid of rooting/romming our phones at first. But you have to start somewhere. Good luck.

You need to start by reading and learning first . That lessons the risk of a brick considerably .
Flash nothing for the I9300 on your not a I9300 phone .
I9305 Q&A and Development .

at last you should make a backup before flashing your first custom rom so heres step by step guide to make backup via cwm recovery
1.Get into recovery mode (cwm) by pressing volume up + power + home
2.Once in recovery mode scroll down to "backup and restore" using the volume keys to scroll and power button to select
3.Then select "Backup"
4.Let the phone make the backup (will take a couple of minutes)
5.Once you see "Backup is complete" the process is done and you can now reboot your phone
hit thanks if i helped
great step by step thanks is it harmless to keep root/cwm on phone for a while beforw cus rom? wont give me any bother will it?

[Q] Root and custom roms

This might be the most noobish question of all noob questions but i have to ask since i can not find real information about it somehow. I have been doubting to ask it but will do anyway. So here it goes:
I want to root my telephone and been reading into it. Everywhere i find guides on how to root and flash custom roms. But (here it comes) : Is it needed to install a custom rom or is it possible to just root without installing said custom roms? I just want to take use of for example titanium back up apps.
I would be very greatfull for the answer on this question as it has been bugging me over the last week during my research on the topic.
Friendly greetings from Sweden

Lock down is coming.....
If you haven't been able to find your answers it's mean that you haven't done your research properly.
Yes, you can just root your phone. Custom ROM or Recovery is an addition.

You can just root without installing a custom rom. Same goes with the custom recovery.

As Cool said above, you can Root and install a custom recovery if you wish, without installing a custom ROM. I Rooted mine within minutes of getting it home, but waited for about 2 weeks before I installed any custom ROMs on it. Sometimes it is better to get the feel first and then take the leap.
Moved to Q&A
Thanks for the answers. It is just all a little much information to understand it all at once. I'm sorry i posted in the wrong section, i thouht i posted right but sausage fingers. Going to give it a go today!
