I have not moved or changed locations or anything but after updating the newest samsung firmware (on friday) my phone is now 100% of the time roaming. I've checked the network settings and it says Tmobile in there as it should (i'm on Tmobile in america with the i9300).
Is there something i did wrong? I updated it with Kies, what can i do to downgrade back to the old firmware if i get tired of this roaming business?
try changing your modem

I am not sure, but its funny my friend has the BLUE i9300 bought 3 weeks after mine, and he was not getting a notification of the update via kies either, but it did give it to me and my phone the exact day it was out (uk firmware).
about changing the modem, will I need to root for that? i prefer to run stock for now..
that's bizarre but it probably has something to do with the phone being an internation model with a uk csc, but i've used my S1 from the uk several times in the u.s. with t-mobile and never had that problem .....can only assume it is a bug

Yea becuase when the phone arrived it worked great (even had a minor firmware upgrade the day i opened which was like june 15th ish or a few days later) and still worked great, no Roaming at all, then with last weeks update now it roams
It's worth pointing out that changing the modem will not work as a valid solution in this case. If one uses a non-LFB modem with the LFB ROM, the mic doesn't get used. One would have to also go to an older rom in addition to a different modem.
I'm having the same exact issue.
Need a solution.
Tried a factory reset. No dice.
Hi guys,
Didn`t find answer for my questions, so decided to link myself to similar topic.
Since the SW update I have done today my phone doesn`t lock to a network
When I go to settings to find a carrier manually, It takes about 2 minutes to find 4-5 networks available around, I am picking o2 UK (as I have a contract with them) and it says : Registering to o2 UK which takes about 4 minutes. After this it says : Emergency calls only and there is no status bars at all.
Master reset didn`t help.
What steps should I take ?
For you reference :
- Phone took from CPW in UK as sim free
- SIM Card used is from o2 UK (contract)
- I don`t want to flash anything, I would like to stay to stock ROM (if possible)
UPDATE : Chosen `Select Automaticly` allowed the phone to find signal, could make a call etc, but after 30 minutes lost signal again....

on AT&T / same firmware, no roaming issues.
Any fixes for this issue?

U Using it in india? Which network u using?
Any updates?
I did find out that the CSC that was applied by default was KOR. I went in and changed this to BTU using *#272*imei#, but still did not solve the issue.
Wondering if a repartition would help?

If u do not wish to root then your only option is to take it back to the store, so they can fix, u bought the best smart phone available on the market and u can't make phone calls or browse internet(without wifi).
To my understanding, still no resolution on this..
My friends phone after being updated (he just got his first update after having the phone a month) is now roaming as well.. So this is definately something either with our network (t-mobile) or the recent updates.
I've just started living with it, but it sucks becuase it does silly things like makes me click 'download image' when someone sends me a picture message in text...
with the few bugs could be ironed out of this phone kinda frustrating.
I do have similar problems since I installed an update 2 weeks ago. at home the phone says it is roaming at work approx 6 miles away and with a different station I am connecting to it is fine.

Thats interesting, no matter where I go i get roaming. Though a few times I have gotten the 'roaming' warning popped up, so maybe i went out of roaming and didnt know it? I'll keep a closer eye on it.
It is very frustrating and annoying. I've called T-Mobile and they said they would open a case with Samsung. If you guys could call too, we might get a fix.
I really suspect it is something in the CSC. Maybe if we could get the T Mobile SIII CSC and apply it?

My suspicion is wrong. I pulled the TMB CSC from a T999 ROM and manually copied it to /system/csc/TMB, then used the CSC Selector App to change to TMB.
No dice. Still in Roaming.
First of all, I'm in the US. I bought the Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100 (I'm in the right forum, yes?) off of ebay.
From what I remember, when I received it, it had some weird ROM that I had never heard of and can't remember the name of, along with clockworkmod recovery already installed.
I put cyanogenmod 9.1.0 on it via: [cyanogenmod's site, model galaxys2 cm9.1.0] (I can't post links yet, so I had to remove all of them).
I was using it mainly for development for a while, so I never tried to activate it on a network using a sim card, but recently I tried to do that with StraightTalk (using an AT&T sim). Nothing happened. I rebooted my phone multiple times, took the battery out, reseated the sim card multiple times, etc. Nothing is any different than before I put the sim card in (except the messages about "No sim card installed" have gone away). And in the settings, it shows that it can read the phone number from the sim. I actually talked to their support for a while and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. I tried the sim in 2 other phones and it works fine on those.
I thought maybe the problem was cyanogenmod 9, so I tried installing cyanogenmod 10 nightlies made specifically for this model from: [cyanogen's site, model i9100 cm 10 nightlies] . Same thing with that. No network connection, emergency call only, etc. I've gone through the settings, trying to change things throughout. I've tried to force-connect to AT&T's network via the Mobile network settings -> Network operators menu, but it just says it can't connect to that network. When I tried to connect to TMobile's network, it said this sim card did not allow a connection to that network.
I wanted to double check to make sure the sim was actually unlocked, but none of the magic codes ( [cduu wordpress galaxy s2 secret codes] ) work except to display the IMEI. I've checked a couple online databases to make sure my IMEI is not blacklisted, and both said it was not blacklisted.
Getting pretty much nowhere, I wanted to return it to stock, but when I read up on it, I could not figure out what to do in order to do that. I'm not very experienced with the GS II; my personal phone is the galaxy nexus. After reading up on it, there's about 100 different versions of "stock" for this phone, depending upon what country/language. I don't know where this phone is from, but the only booklet it came with was in French.
I did find the sammobile released firmware versions for jelly bean and ice cream sandwich (I9100XXLSJ_I9100OXXLS1_OXX.zip and I9100XXLPH.zip) from [sammobile's site] . I don't even know if these are technically stock though. The only one I tried to flash was the ice cream sandwich one; the jelly bean one is still downloading. When I tried to flash the ice cream sandwich one using Odin3 v1.85, it just failed. Didn't harm any of the software that was on there, so I'm guessing it found that it wasn't the right version for my hardware?
So after all this work, I'm coming up empty.
Is there anything else I can do to try to troubleshoot why I have no cell network connection at all?
Should I try to flash back to stock and if so, can anyone tell me what english-language version of firmware/software I have to flash/install to my phone to get it back to stock?
Can I provide any more information to help?
Thanks for the time.
Since you have verified that the sim card is working properly.
Then the issue is with the phone, did you check with the provider if the imei of the phone is valid or not. It maybe a blocked device because it was reported lost or stolen previously.

I only checked in a couple online databases and they both said it was not blacklisted. I found the IMEI issuer at imei-number .com though, and it says it was issued by BABT (British Approvals Board of Telecommunications). Is that who I would contact? I don't know how I would contact them and get a response. Other than that I don't know what carrier the phone was used under before.
If it is not blacklisted
It maybe a hardware issue in that one pins for the sim card is not making contact properly. You may need to take the phone apart to see if there is an issue with sim connection.
Would it be able to read its phone number from the sim if a pin wasn't making connection?
Under About Phone -> Status, Network is Unknown, Signal strength is -111 dBm 1 asu, Mobile network type is HSDPA:9, and the phone number is listed correctly.
Oh, one thing I didn't mention is that the device ID from "adb devices" shows up as 0123456789ABCDEF.
And I just noticed in the About Phone -> Status menu, the Serial number is "unknown." Is there something in my ROM or something that is blocking or has erased the serial number or device ID?
Any ideas?
I'm probably going to have to buy a new phone for development today, so if anyone had something to try before then, it'd be really appreciated.
My girlfriend has had a Samsung S3 (I9300) for a couple of months and has had no issues with it however she dropped it and broke the LCD . I ordered a replacement screen (Front glass, LCD, and digitizer) from eBay and fitted this without any problems. I tested all functions on the phone and it seemed to be working okay. The same evening my girlfriend went and run the update and went from 4.0.4 (I think) to 4.1.2 since then she has complained about signal issues which I have now witnessed myself. I wished she had waited a bit longer to make sure the phone was working fine before doing any updates as now I am not sure if this is a software related problem or hardware. There is no way to revert back to the older version to confirm software. I know one option on the software side would be to root it and install a customer rom but I have never done this before and even though reading through the forums the process seems to be easy I am a bit reluctant to do this just now.
The signal indicator sometimes shows a circle with a line through it, sometimes it shows a grey triangle with no bars in it and other times it will show a bar or two and even a full signal. I have noticed even without a sim in it that it can show a couple of bars of signal. I have not got this confused with the Wi-Fi signal. When trying to send text messages or make a phone call the following errors come up “Not registered on network” and “No signal found for mobile network”
Below is what I have done/checked so far
I have restored the phone to factory settings but as explained before this will only restore to 4.1.2. This time the only apps on the phone are stock apps, no additional apps have been installed just encase a third party software may have caused issues.
Her sim will work in any other phone. I have an S2 and have ported my number over from a normal sim to a brand new micro sim to try in her phone. Both of these phones are on O2.
I have made sure the IMEI number is correct and matches what the phone came shipped with.
I have double checked the APN details and these match what my S2 has. Although I am pretty sure this is only for internet and MMS and would not affect SMS and phone calls.
After check over the settings and restoring to factory settings I have fitted a replacement antenna which I also got from eBay. I doubt I have damaged the mainboard as all other functions on the phone work fine. (Touchscreen, Cameras, Sound, Wi-Fi)
For some reason I can get the phone to work at my house on both GSM (2G) and WXCDA (3G) although it seems to be more stable when it is on GSM. As soon as I leave my house and go into town (approx. 2 mile away) or over to my girlfriends (approx. 20 miles away) it will stop working. I have gone onto the O2 website and entered both of our post codes on the O2 network coverage checker and this reports that there are no services down in our area and that we should have a good signal.
I have come on this forum for some advice and hopefully someone can recommend what I could do next. I have had a little browse on the forum already but is there something I have missed? Should I root the phone and install a customer rom? If it was caused by the official update is there an a hotfix of some sort coming soon? Or is this a genuine fault with the phone? If it is a fault with the phone and it has not be caused by me I could try sending it back to O2 (where the phone was purchased from) or Samsung seeing as I can’t see any warranty seals so think I would get away with this.
Thanks in advance for any responses I get to this and I am sorry if I have rambled on and provided info that is not essential.
Flash O2 stock rom via Odin .
If that does not fix it its a hardware repair job and you will be refused warranty as you have self repaired .

Hello all,
To put my issue simply, I am receiving the "Not registered on network" error on my phone. I have tried many things to resolve it and to help narrow down the possible problems, I will explain my situation and what steps I have taken to try to resolve it. I appreciate you taking the time to read my detailed explanation in advance, as I wish to be as clear and informative as possible.
My phone is an unlocked Australian Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300). I bought it about 6 months ago and about two months ago had some issues with the display come out of the blue. I was able to get this issue resolved through my warranty. When I received the phone back though, I thought it was all working fine but then I noticed I couldn't send SMSs or make calls as my phone wouldn't connect to my phone network (Vodafone). I tried reboots, hard reboots, restoring backups, using a different SIM card (from a different carrier) and I still couldn't get it to work.
During this process of trying to fix it myself, I rooted the phone. So when I realised I couldn't fix it and it could possibly be a hardware issue, I sent it back to be fixed under warranty. Unfortunately my warranty was voided when I rooted the phone, even though it was broken before I rooted it.
So a few days ago I received my phone back again and spent about 6 hours trying to fix it. Here's what I tried...
I tried to flash the latest Australian firmware (XSA) which is the same as the one I initially had when I purchased the phone. I tried factory resets, different firmware flashes, custom ROMs, different modems etc. None of this worked. I thought I had found my solution when I stumbled across ARIZA's patch, but event this did not solve my problem.
The really strange thing is I can occasionally connect to the network and if I try repeatedly, I can sometimes get an SMS to send. I've checked my SIM is clean (I've tried another SIM anyway) and everything seems fine.
My IMEI number is still intact and isn't blacklisted. I've tried restoring backups from when it was working (before I got it "fixed" the first time) and that's not worked. The current status of my phone is:
ROM: Omega v5.0
Version: 4.2.2
Baseband: I9300XELLA
Network: vodafone AU (sometimes shows as Unknown)
Mobile Network State showing as "Disconnected", except in rare moments
IMEI and Serial intact
I've tried all I can think of and all the suggestions I can find on the Internet. I'm hoping someone here will have some suggestions for things I can try. I'd really like to fix this issue as I've been without my phone for months. I'm thinking it could be a hardware issue, but want to make sure I've exhausted all options I can try myself first before trying to get a place to repair it. As my warranty is void, I'm not sure how easy this will be.
Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions,
Jay.

Return to a stock rom and use triangle away to reset the counter, retry with your provider, they may let it slide that you've previously tried.
It would appear that you've already tried everything.
Return to stock and update via OTA, remove root, remember to use triangle away, I personally haven't had to do it but i would imagine that it needs root privileges to complete so thinking about it i would say to use triangle away first.
Hope you get it sorted.

Hey,
Thanks for the quick response.
I doubt they would let it slide as I had a pretty long back and forth with them trying to get them to fix the phone or at least send it back to me without charging me for the shipping costs and that didn't end in my favour. I'm sure they'd remember that they already rejected it due to it being modified and would just blame the rooting for the issues.
I'm thinking I might just reset it all to stock, reset the counter and at least ask. If not, I'll try to find a repair shop who will take a look. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm still open to any other ideas people might have which I can try from my end.
Thanks,
Jay.
Starting point would be correct firmware modem and CSC for your location and network .
Flash your original rom .

Hey,
Thanks for the suggestion. I believe I have tried this by downloading the latest firmware from SamMobile and flashing that through Odin, but I haven't tried it through Keis, so I guess I'll give that a go.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
Jay.
Me too. I've an i9305 (S3 LTE) and i've tried every tutorials on internet and so far nothing: always the same issue "not registered on network". In case you solve the issue please let me know. I'll do the same. Txs
I've tried to connect my phone using Keis and it just seems to say "Connecting..." forever. I've tried running the connection troubleshooter and that just seemed to re-install the drivers but not actually fix the issue. I still can't get Keis to even connect to my phone.
Any ideas on why this would be? Or other suggestions I can try for my initial problem?
Thanks,
Jay.
As an update to this, it seems I've tried everything I can on my end to fix it to no avail. I believe it must be a hardware issue and have dropped it into a phone repair centre. I'm hoping they will be able to find the problem and fix it.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Another update to this, I received a response from the repair centre. They said:
"...we took it all apart and checked all connections and serviced it.
Once we put it back together we tested it with Vodafone and Optus sim cards. Both sims had service and were able to connect to the internet as well."
After I asked for more details on what they did to try and help me determine what the problem was, they said:
"The phone looked 100% fine inside, no signs of water or any other damage. Sometimes electronic devices can be a bit temperamental, maybe the fact that we undone and cleaned all connections it's booted it back to life."
So I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, but it sounds like it's all sorted now. So not it's not 100% clear what the issue was, but to anyone having this same problem who has tried everything like I did, it is likely a hardware issue. Your best bet is probably to try a repair shop (assuming your warranty won't cover the problem).
Thanks to those who offered suggestions and good luck to those with the same problem.
Do please tell us if it worked because i'm tempted to do the same as you did before selling it on ebay as faulty for parts. PLEASE ANSWER US BACK AFTER TESTING IT an entire day. THANK YOU A LOT!
Does it work properly now? Thanks - Please reply.
Not sure if it is exactly the same problem but I remember getting that msg when i was on Telstra and I'd installed a new ROM - I went to the Telstra site and got them to send an activation msg that reset my provider info. It didn't seem to matter for phone calls but I wasn't getting any connection to do with data until I 'ran' the msg they sent.

Txs for help but I don't have the backups of my efs folder... so I think it is useless therefore i am going to sell it on ebay as faulty for parts. Unfortunately! I love my i9305!
You should probably do some more searching on site - there are a number of things to do, including getting a service centre to fix it. Be cheaper than a new phone. Is it an i9300 or ann i9305?

It's a i9305 and I've tried everything, every tutorials on internet without success so far. I am tired of the situation and also very disappointed therefore I think i will sell it as faulty. As it regards to a repair center, near my area it's very difficult to find someone who can fix it.
For me it seems my connection is still intermittent when using my Vodafone SIM on my S3 (and the same for another Vodafone SIM I tried on this phone) whereas both SIMs work fine on other phones.
I then tried a Telstra SIM on my S3 and it worked fine. So it seems I have a weird problem with my phone where the combination of the S3 and Vodafone doesn't work, but other phones or other SIMs do work.
I think I'm just going to try changing carrier (I've been meaning to anyway) since it seems their SIMs work in my phone.
Really not sure what is causing this issue, but I'm at the point where I just want it fixed and I don't really care how. Hope you find out how to solve your issue.
How is your phone right now? Im also having the same problem. It always say 'not registered to network' everytime i make a call. This happens whenever i turn on the flight mode, then turning it off.. i have a strong signal and i can use the internet provided by my network but i cant make a call or text.. people cant also reach my number. I sent this already to samsung service ctr and they changed the board but its still there whenever i access the flight mode..

Hi...the same, no solution so far. I am actually selling it on ebay for parts. I simply gave up.
Hello, First post here on Xda, Nice to meet you all.
I'm looking for some serious help with my new samsung galaxy S3GSMH International version.
Long story short, My girlfriend lives in germany, While on holiday there I purchased a samsung galaxy s3i9300 and was told it will work in any region any network due to being factory unlocked.
In germany I was using a sim card from VIVA mobile or something of the like and it worked fine.
After I returned home, I switched in my UK Vodafone sim card, A message then popped up saying, Please select sim service:vodafone UK/Vodafone UK prepaid.
So I chose Vodafone UK and clicked on OK, I thought everything was fine untill i tried to make a call and got, Not registered on network.
Now I have searched for days in all types of threads to get this fixed, I have tried flashing stock firmware with odin/emergency recovery Via Kies/Flashing modems/flashing patched modems/patched kernals/Ariza patch/Ariza patch Jb.
My Imei is fine and matches under the battery, The S/N also matches under the battery.
So I just don't understand it, If it asked me to choose which sim service surely that means it has some type of connection with the network? I have full signal bars too.
Is there anything else i need to do to get this working? Because I am at a loss, And I obviously can't take it back due to the shop being in germany
Any help or input is extremely appreciated!
