hi all
after an ota update i have only a black sreen when in download mode and also i have not anymore the screen whith the model name at boot. this is a small issue as the download mode still works and i have been able to install with no problems cmw recovery and the wonderfull megafirev3 rom but i would like to fix it. Is there any way to reinstall the bootloader avoiding to install a new rom with knox ?
thanks
Im sorry that i don't have a solution, but i just want to let you know that i have the exact same problem. it was that way after i got it back from display repairs. it's apparently not that uncommon amongst other Samsung devices as well...

thank you for your answer. the funny thing is that also for me it was after taking back my phone from samsung service which changed the display. but i think it's only a coincidence as immediately after i took the phone it worked then i installed the french stock firmware and after this an ota update and then the download mode page disappeared.
As I wrote before is not a big issue but I'm afraid could happen the same for the recovery page.
hopefully it will not... I managed to enter recovery but not download mode graphically after i got it back from repairs. After that i flashed CWM and that is working well with graphics also. Probably it all comes down to a quirky boot loader installed at the service place. I would expect the problem to disappear if I flashed a new firmware with KNOX boot loader, but I'm definitely not sure. Anyways I got myself a jig to make it easier to enter download mode since the timing gets a bit tricky without the graphical guidance

Help Please...I really need some now.
I had my phone unlocked and everything was fine. I have been updating the resurrection remix roms and enjoying them a lot. I was up to ver. 1.7. The problem is that I had some of the screen issues (fine horizontal lines on the screen) and I decided to get the phone repaired. I just got the phone back today and I noticed that Bell repair shop had wiped everything off my phone and put their stock version of ics on and the phone was no longer rooted. I have been trying to root the phone a few times now through Odin (like I did half a year ago) and at first it failed due to not being able to open the serial port. I opened Kies and the phone connected so I knew the drivers were ok. I tried Odin again and this time it went through and gave me a pass......but on reboot, it just hangs on the Samsung screen and I cannot turn the phone on at all now. I either am stuck on this screen or the CWM screen, but it won't carry out any command ie. power off, open zip from scard etc. I really need some help and quite worried about the phone now.
Please, please help
you allowed usb debugging?, go back to download mode and flash a kernel with root.
Go to download mode and flash a stock kernel. If you are unable to get into download mode because you said that your phone wont accept any commands for example pressing buttons then you could buy an USB jig. This will bring you directly to download mode. That would propably be your last chance.
Then flash a stock kernel back on there. Maybe the exact same which was on there before. Or just flash a stock full ICS Rom.

Yahoo!! I finally got the thing unstuck. I tried the Odin procedure again but this time I downloaded a more updated root kernel. It passed, then on bootup it wasn't stuck in space......although it still did not boot up properly. It ended up going just black...with no screen whatsoever. But the CMW program was working though and I was able to do a system restore from a month ago. I was very happy and very lucky I made that backup. Now, not only do I make the Titanium backup, but I also do a backup from the CMW program.....because now I know it's possible to freeze up before I ever get a chance to use Titanium. A good lesson indeed.
hey guys thanks for any help. here is my problem.
i got an s3 i9300T to fix for sister in law. she apparently went in to telstra and got told that if it was her fault she would have ot pay for the repairs and she needed a phone while its away so she just payed of the contract. not sure what she exactly wants except for her data back.
upon taking a quick look it had a familiar screen. the computer triangle phone screen. im like sweet easy fix with an odin flash.
i installed a 4.0.4 version of telstra software(will look what one later) and it magically booted im like sweet. then encounter the sim lock. had to wait a day for the information so i left it over night on charge. (she wanted her contacts as well apparently but at the time i didn't know what she wanted really and i didnt just think to take out the sim.) ended up asking what she exeactly was wanting and phone was looking fine. tryed to update through kies and apparetly wasnt not able to be done on that android version. i left it another day and noticed that it was stuck on that boot logo/splash screen. i noticed i can still get in to recovery and download so i tryed to reflash same software. unsuccessful half way i tryed to use a 4.1.2 version that would not get pasts a tz** (replace starts with letters i cant remember atm) i suggested to just keep in on wanrrenty as odin hasnt counted anything yet. but they seam more for data recovery. should i try something iive tryed again or not tryed. or just try flashing recovery and trying to get the data off that way?
as i cant access stock recovery atm and its back to the computer triangle?
i know i dragged on sorry hope i explained correctly.
sorry fail to understand the post and your problem.
If its SDS you cannot recover data but you can fix with a new motherboard .
as far as i can tell i cant get the device too boot or accept new firmware, and it looks to be the sds problem but im not sure.. i think ill try and install a custom recovery and see if i cant mount it and get the data back.

So, I was messing around, trying to get the WiFi to work on my phone when I tried a solution I found on the forums: updating one of the files involving the radio. After flashing the file, my phone shut off and opened in Download mode. Now I can't leave download mode, can't enter recovery mode, and can't boot my phone. Oh, and my computer can't recognize the phone either. I've searched for hours looking for a solution and I'm freaking out. I seriously need some help with this.
Basically it says:
Could not do normal mode
Odin Mode
Phone Model, etc.
I really don't care how its done, what ROM I end up with, or anything else. I just need this phone to be able to work properly again. Thanks for any help!
I think it's emmc sds

That's sudden death syndrome right? Is there any good fix for it or way to get it replaced despite it being rooted and the ROM changed? (I did know that going into rooting might cause problems like this, just hopeful that there's a way)
Edit: If there's a way to get the phone to be recognized by a computer; I can still access download mode and would have no problem doing a full restore from there. I've tried installing drivers for the phone, it seems like the phone is unable to be recognized by any computer I try also.
Finally did get Recovery Mode to work. Don't know if that can help much

add a screenshot of recovery mod, download mod
SDS is when the phone is completely dead, doesn't boot at all.
You are posting in the wrong forum, this is for the i9300 only.
If you've flashed a file meant for another phone then you have probably hard bricked it.
If download mode doesn't connect to pc then you need a repair centre.

Solved the issue! So I managed to load my original ROM file onto my external SD and install it from recovery. For anyone else who has this problem, I just loaded the zip file onto the SD, stuck it in my phone, powered off and clicked Volume Up Home and Power to get into recovery, (phone specific for Gs3 on getting to recovery) and went to install from zip and installed the file. Problem solved for me, although it did wipe all the data which isnt a big deal really. Phew. That was a scare. And it fixed my WiFi problem, so all in all a good learning experience for me
Anyhow, thanks for all the help, I appreciate it! And sorry for hitting up the wrong forum, its my first time on it.
Thanks again!

Hello Everyone!
So I just found My First Love, GT-I9300 laying in a drawer. Before moving to the current situation, let me put some light on the history.
I know this is a way too OLD device, But I want to try it for the last time kindly HELP me!!!!
I had this great phone years back, I installed several custom ROMs on it and used it for a while. The recovery I was using then was TWRP. ( Don't remember version ) But somehow it started behaving abnormal, like restarting on its own, etc. I thought it to be some button issue so I changed them but the problem persists. So I did a custom ROM (Don't exactly remember the name as my old HDD crashed which contained all the ROMs) but it doesn't go successful. So, I left it in a drawer.
Now in present
It doesn't boot in recovery mode, as no recovery is installed (Maybe I did something wrong last time)
The download mode shows this screen, see attached file (No model etc, strange huh)
When trying to install Firmware, it shows error no PIT found
When trying to install PIT write failed error shows up in ODIN
Samsung Kies doesn't recognise the device
So, My question here is
Can this device be fixed? If yes how can I do it? because I don't remember anything about ROM, Kernel, bootloader, firmware etc.
Or it is just bricked So I can stop wasting my time on it.
I don't have much knowledge, I was reading here and applying different tricks but none seems to work.
Any Help would be appreciated.
The screenshot shows no product id anymore, so I am afraid that your phone has a defect nand and is pricked.

So it means it can't be fixed now?
no I don't think so.
Ahh okay. thank you for your response.
Hello all...hoping to get some assistance with this thing. Long story short, debloated it due to horrid battery life and high heat. Everything was great until about a week ago when my settings app go renamed somehow. Tried fixing it but couldn't find the com.android.settings file with the correct signature for my phone (AT&T, US Model, unlocked, not rooted).
It's been working fine except no settings...so I backed up the usual stuff and had plans to do a factory reset this weekend. A few hours ago I picked it up and it went all wonky on me. Upon boot, it comes up to the lock screen and then the screen just starts turning on/off. I'm unable to bring up the passcode screen...but, am able to bring up the power menu by holding the power button. But, can't power down or get into safe mode that way. After about 5 seconds of doing this, it reboots. Rinse and repeat. Safe mode via buttons starts, but, does the same thing.
I am able to get into both recovery mode and download mode though. I can view logs/etc.
Normally, I'd just ***** and moan, then do the factory reset, However, I made one huge oversight when I backed up my data earlier this week and forgot to backup my notes. There's about a dozen of them, pages and pages long with all the medical details regarding my sons illness that I've been tracking for years. It's a nightmare dealing with different Dr's all the time so I've logged it all on the phone. Unfortunately, the best app I've found for it doesn't do cloud storage and keeps them saved as local txt files on the device.
Is there any hope I can somehow pull the files using recovery/download mode or utilize the logs to determine the errors and fix it enough to be able to get them? I'm fairly tech savvy and have ADB installed. I'm super ADD though and my head is just spinning trying to sort through all the possible posts regarding trying to do this...many being for older phones.
Absolute worst case, is there a legitimate service that would be able to do it?
Any help recovering my son's medical notes would be really really appreciated.

Man, i'm so sorry to hear that :/
Sience you have access to recovery, did you try to wipe only cache partition and hit repair apps(also in recovery)?
I'm also using debloated device and i dont have any problems with it

Yeah...that's the first thing I tried after safe mode failed. :\
There's quite a few folks reporting similar issues since the last OTA update a couple weeks ago.
Usually I delay until I get a chance to restore then allow it...this one didn't even give me a chance. I was using my phone when it popped up. No option to remind me later. When I tried to exit it counted down from 10, rebooted and installed.

Thanks for the idea. But, yeah, tried that to already...cleared cache and repaired apps afterwards too. Tried it with cable, tried a 2.0 cable too.
No dice.
The app repair works just fine and then it does the same thing when lock screen tries to appear.

Yeah, I figured that'd be my last shot at it... I've read the horror stories of tripping Knox even with factory firmware.
Was just really hoping there was some way to yank the stuff using recovery or download modes.

I think that you can't trip Knox only when you flash official firmware over unlocked bootloader and custom ROM, but I'm not so sure.
Last time I did that is when I had Samsung Galaxy S2 and flashing official firmware over official firmware and that didn't trip the Knox counter
Does flashing genuine firmware trip knox?
Hi It's been a while since I bothered flashing firmware so I am not upto date with how things work now. My questions are I am currently on 02s version of firmware and would like to go samsungs version so I can take part in things like the one...

Here you can see that flashing official firmware over official firmware(i'm guessing that you are not rooted) won't trip knox counter
