What Adblock use? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What Adblock use on android? Good if they block ad on Chrome not only stock browser.
I found:
AdAway
AdFree
AdBlock Plus
(MoaAB) Mother of All AD-BLOCKING
What is better. Does it allow add own block list like adblock plus for windows? Does it block ad in system aplications (I use LBE SM so I dont realy need this function)? Does it slow down system?
On windows I use usually this list:
Code:
https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/fanboy-polish.txt

Adblock blocks ads that pop up in any application (works with 3rd party as well as system apps).
I would suggest you to use AdAway or Mother of all Adblocking. Both are free, but MoaAB is greatest.
I was using AdAway few weeks back on my phone having 290MiB RAM.
Now I am using MoaAB, There is no slowing down observed (Even though my phone has only 290MiB RAM & 832MHz CPU).
In fact Internet is faster, because no bandwidth is used to download ads.
If you use AdAway, then you can add that secure.fanboy.co.nz adblocking list to your phone's host file.
But I would say, mother of all ad blocking is the best. It has 10MiB sized host file and HUGE list.
Press Thanks if helped.

How to use ad block plus list on atrix?

Adfree completely blocks some of my videos, so I am wondering if there is a way to use the adblock plus list to the atrix.
Yes, I mean adblock plus on the desktop.

Give ROM toolbox's built-in adblocker a try. I have no issues with it. If it's not enough for you:
Basic adblocking uses a list of host URLs to deny or nullify or whatever. Google around for the location of the hosts file on your computer and your phone and consolidate blocked URLs.

[Tips]What is ads(must read all users)

What is Ads???
-(pronounced as separate letters) Short for alternate data stream, a function of Microsofts NTFS file system in which files can be embedded in other files and are invisible to the user through Windows Explorer (i.e., the ADS does not affect the size, function or display of the main file the ADS is attached to). While ADS files (which are well known throughout the hacker community) can be used maliciously by an attacker wishing to plant an executable file into another file without it being detected, ADS also is used legitimately by programmers. For example, an antivirus program can include a checksum value in an ADS attached to each file.
Effect of ads...
1.ads can slow your phone
ex.Script manager(Not Paid) has a ads if you are data enable
2.some ads has a virus Called ADWARE from not Known apps downloaded in others not in gp(google play), Virus means a software can destroy your files, hardware of your phone
How to prevent adware???
You need a adblocker app Here
adaway is a app that can block all ads especially ads in script manager
so download it and install on your phone
note:this is not a antivirus! if u want antivirus go Here
FAQS...
Q. why i need to download it here instead on google play

If u have bugs go here

There is no NTFS file-system on our phones, so there is no Alternative Data Stream.
ADS is shorthand for ADvertisementS, which are a legitimate way of making money of your applications if you don't want to charge the end-user money (like the unpaid script-manager, which displays ads)
It is rarely malware, and the reason Google has removed ad-blockers (or advertisement-blockers) from it's store is because ie negatively impacts on the revenue-stream of App-developers.
So, no alternative data stream, only some code that gets advertisements of google's servers so the developers can get a little bit of money for their efforts.
Thank you.

Which is the best ad-blocking app for non-rooted android phone?

Hi fellas, I know this is an age-old question but there's seems to be scant information available on this. Let's share our knowledge to figure this out. This is the list I've come across during my short research:
Adblock Plus: Blocks only on Wi-Fi
Adguard: Removed from Play Store, anybody knows how it is?
Adaway: The best, but requires root.
These are the only mentionable ones I found. Do you guys know of anything better? Which is the best way to go for non-rooted device? Thanks ya'll.
i think you need to enable ad-blocking on your browser since you are not rooted cause you cannot apply system-wide blocking. some of the options are:
-AdBlock browser
-any browser that supports extensions like Firefox and then install adblock extension
-also these ones have adblock feature built inside: UCbrowser, Javelin, Dolphin, Maxthon, Naked Browser
good luck
Adguard Premium
I just installed Adguard app and it has a premium option that it claims will filter adds for applications as well.
Has anyone tried Adguard premium?

How to block in-app trackers?

I am searching for options how to block android in-app trackers.
Which trackers are used in specific app can be checked here: https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/
For example:
https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/reports/com.nordvpn.android/latest/
App NordVPN uses 5 trackers (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager,...).
How is it possible to block these trackers on Android 9? In a browser with add-ons like uBlock Origin it is an easy job. Is it possible to do the same with Android applications?
- I was looking at adblocking apps like AdAway, which uses hosts file... Can I use this host file to block trackers used in apps?
- I was also looking at XprivacyLua, but it needs Xposed framewors, which does not work (yet) on Android 9.
- Do you know any other tool?
- Or is the only option to find alternative?
Using: Mido device, LineageOS 16 for MicroG (based on Android 9 Pie).
Thank you for help and greetings!
If someone else needs it, I got a lot of help in this AdAway thread, page 1413, 1414: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753&page=1413

For any app that makes the call by DNS, yes. If an app has an IP hard coded or other DNS work around, no.

So one option seems to be just adding domains to AdAway blocklist.
To do so:
zgfg said:
As pointed by the other user, you didn't list FQDNs but package names - with AdAway you cannot blacklist/whitelist some apps, only FQDNs (domains)
For AdAway you must have root, hence you can check from the logcat which domains were resolved by DNS and which TCP connections were established while your app is running.
Then add suspicious domains to your AdAway blacklist, restart the phone and test again, and analyze the log again if you still see the ads

@GuestK00285
Nobody needs an AD-Blocker app: all one has to do is to keep Android's system file /system/etc/hosts up-to-date. To edit this file root access is required.

Question Ad blockers

first time posting on the P6 forum (last had a P3).
previously, I used dns.adguard.com for the Private DNS setting. however, that was not blocking all of the ads from within some apps. it worked pretty well until then. Now, I downloaded blokada 5, and that successfully blocks almost all ads. the lone problem is that when connecting to a website, it often slows it down.
curious to see if anyone has a similar experience or recommend an alternative to dns.adguard.com.
thanks!

I personally use both NordVPN as well as AdAway with root; AdAway has a VPN function of its own, and you can use your own host lists, but the VPN solution is more resource intensive than the root solution.

interesting - thanks for the quick reply.
i do have windscribe, but rarely use it. i have not rooted this device yet, as my understanding rooting will disable Google Wallet/GPay - and I use those more often than I would need to hide ads.
+1 to AdAway, plus if your preferred browser supports it, install an adblocker in it as well - I use uBlock for Firefox.
There's also MinMinGuard which has recently gotten an update to make it work on current systems, but that requires Lsposed if you don't already use it, as well as individually enabling it for every new app you install. Honestly, though, with AdAway plus a browser adblocker, I almost never see any ads in any app, so I don't find MinMinGuard necessary anymore.
Ad blocking apps like Blokada and DNS-based ad blockers like AdGuard can be effective at blocking ads, but they can also slow down your browsing experience. This is because ad blockers need to process and filter out ads, which can take up resources and cause delays.
One alternative to dns.adguard.com that you could try is Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1. This is a free, fast, and secure DNS resolver that also includes ad-blocking capabilities. Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 uses their own ad-blocking technology which is based on the same technology used by their enterprise-grade Web Application Firewall (WAF). This can block ads at the DNS level, which can be less resource-intensive than using an app like Blokada.

No root will not disable Google Wallet/GPay, you just have to install Safety net fix module and all works great, for banking apps just hide root into settings. I use all my banking apps, card tokens and gpay/wallet everyday. Rooking root + adaway.

i tried installing the 1.1.1.1 app from cloudflare, and it did NOT block the ads on my scrabble app. thx for the suggestion though.
Have you tried using a browser like Brave which would help with your browsing experience. I use a combination of Blockada for system wide blocking, pihole for in-home network based blocking and browsers like Brave/DDG for blocking and so on. I have a tasker based activity for turning on/off blockada when in home/out of home. It's my non-root solution.
Additionally you can also lookup -
ahadns.com - you get a customised secure dns url, you can setup filter lists and the URL is configured based on the seelctions.
nextdns.io - something similar to the above. 300,000 free ad-blocking queries per month and past that, the non-blocking DNS service will work till the next month.

Hey, just stumbled across your post and thought that if you use piehole at home, you should be able to just use a VPN to you piehole when on the road so you don't have to rely on third party apps. Don't know about performance though, but you might give it a try.
Cheers
Been taking NextDNS for a test ride. Easy set up with a lot of features, up to 300,000 queries per month for free. What's not to like?
Fast and running pretty smooth so far, day 7.
