Where to find Stock Rom? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Where we can find the stock roms? It is possible to download stock roms:
- from HTC, Samsung... and other companie's official site
- or we can find them other truested open source developers like CyanogenMod's official site?
- Or just we will find them inside on forums post?
I would be happy if you can tell me also if it is possible to install AOSP directly on a phone device? I think it will not work? Am I right?
Thanks in advance

You would need to find someone that pulled one off of your device and uploaded it... check out the forums for your specific device here, particularly the stickied areas. Sometimes people upload the stock ROM or tweaked versions of the stock ROM!

Stock Roms
Don't know about others but in case of Samsung you can download Stock ROM for any device on "Sammobile" or "Samsung-Updates". These websites are made for only Samsung. And you can trust both of these websites. ROM's provided on these websites are fully stock. Stock ROM is generally referred as "Firmware". So look for firmware section on these websites
And for the AOSP question, it depends upon the device and the procedures available for installing AOSP. It is possible but not for all devices. It depends.

[Q] Stock kernels!

Please can anyone direct me to where I can find ICS stock kernels for the S2 I9100. Every link I find anywhere on the intenet points me here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
But none of the links to stock kernels work. Either it says page not found or link removed due to copywrite infriengment.
Your help would be much appreicated.
If the links do not work you could still use Check Fus to download stock firmware.
kernel, not rom
Thanks but this appears to allow me to download entire stock firmware files i.e. the whole ROM. gGtting the stock ROMs/Firmware is not a problem for me...I want to put a stock KERNEL on a custom ROM.
So how to download the stock KERNEL only (about 8 to 10mb) still remains a mystery to me. I'm starting to doubt it is in fact possible anymore.
Use Intratech's thread to download just the stock kernel.
I use this, which is from intratech.

Cyangenmod OTA.....Where is it?

I've just started using CM9 again haven been on stock Samsung ROMs for most of my S3 usage. I remember seeing something on Twitter about custom ROMs now supporting OTA In Android and assumed that CM9 would be one of the first ROMs to use it. I don't see I anywhere though. Is it not built into the latest Cyanogenmod ROMs out of the box (as it were)?
If not, why not? I would have expected every custom ROM to have this as part of their package. I love OTA updates and having them in a custom ROM will make the experience seem so much more professional.
Just intrigued, chaps. It's not the end of the world but I was kind of expecting to see it. I tried downloading what appears to be the official app but when I try to install it it says that the developer hasn't added support for it. Which I suppose does answer my question but doesn't provide a reason!
Thanks anyway.

ROM is the android operating system of the phone. It's of two types. Stock ROM (official one supplied with the phone) and Custom ROM(Customized and modded ROMs).
Kernel is the bridge between this ROM and the hardware of the phone. The proper working of all the hardware features depends on the kernel.
Root means giving development level access to ROM inorder to make customization(which is not available in stock ROMs.
There are lots of custom ROMs are available for your device based on CyanogenMod(an open source after market firmware community), AOSP(Android open source project), etc.
Just check your device thread to know how to install acustom ROM to your device.
Hope i helped you..

Look in to your device thread. There will be any explanations about the rooting method. List of ROMs are also available there. So have a look at it.

[Q] Where do i get the right android version?

Hi all, I have a noob question that I have not been able to find an answer to.
My main goal is to make my own rom, and there are a lots of nice guides etc for that, but for some reason I cannot find where I'm suppose to download the "stock" android from google.
Where can i download the different versions of android? One should think that there are a rom or at least some files that can be made into a stock rom or something like that?
It would be very nice at least, if I just could download android 5, or one of the others, and then just implement all the drivers for my unit to make it work on a stock android.
Or have I misunderstood something critical here?
Not sure how basic the question is. Stock ROMs are factory versions.
XDA has different flavours of custom ROMs and link to stock ROMs.
Few technical features speak about odexed and deodexed.
Please search the forums and hopefully you can help the community.
Sent from my XT1033 using XDA Free mobile app
Yes I have searched the forums and google, no answers to that question.
Ok so stock rom is from the manufacturer, but google have the "official" version. So there should be a rom or files that can be made into a rom that's clean, from google?
As to the custum roms, I would be better of starting with a "clean one" i should think. And there are no roms that I know of that is working with any of my Minix units, and I would definitely like to get 5.0 on my media streamers.
Odexed and deodexed? Have no idea what is.
