I'm looking to flash to straight talk using a donor phone, but I can't dial anything because I lack a SIM card. Is there a way to bypass the SIM check and just use cdma and 3g?
What is necessary to make this happen? If it's impossible without a SIM, do I just need a Verizon SIM card?
I really want to use this as my phone, but until I can get it to dial I'm dead in the water.
I have my fascinate on St right now, but have a brand new donor phone as well if I need it.
Anyone here who can help? I have the software, I just need to get over this hurdle as I've no idea where to find a previously activated SIM card.
Note, I need to use Verizon towers because of my area, so I must be on cdma.
straight talk uses sim cards. And you do need that for this phone to act as a phone. I mean you should be able to get their sim edit your apns if needed and be ready to roll.

Straight talk sims are for ATT/Tmobile network access. However, they do offer a CDMA code to access that network:

Hi, I'm new to the forums and new to unlocking phones. But I wanted to unlock my vibrant, I have my unlock and unfreeze codes but when I put a different sim card in it just tells me to call customer care and gives me no option to put in an unlock code. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Different sim card have to be from different service provider like at&t.
This is first time I hear that unlocking option won't appear after installing different sim card !
I tried using a net 10 trac fone sim card, since I read from other people on here they said it would work. but when i put it in and start the phone i can use my phone but when I go to the call screen it says "sim card crash - Please contact customer service". So Im gonna try an at&t card(with data plan) from my friend hopefully it works. Also I have another question like I said Im new to this stuff. If I still use my tmobile sim card can I still connect to at&t's internet/data?
I would think that to access AT&T's network services, you would need to have the AT&T sim installed in the phone.
You have to put different sim card other than T-Mobile to get unlock code screen !

Dude WOLF, not to be rude but if you read I put a NET 10 TRAC Fone sim in, not a t-mobile.
anyways on a better note. I finally have it unlocked! I put in a friends boost mobile sim, Screen popped up and put the code in. sweet.

Nope...you'd need to put in an AT&T SIM that's tied to an AT&T account with a data plan.
I recently messed up my HTC Incredible and thinking about getting this phone off ebay/craigslist. My question is, is it easy to change the CDMA from phone to phone? I wasn't able to really see any instructions online specifically for these phones. Also, am I obligated to get a 4G enabled on the phone from Verizon?
Thanks

Yes and yes.
Thanks - are there any tutorials on changing CDMAs? I'm having a hard time finding anything through Google.
What exactly do you mean by "changing CDMA's?" Do you mean switching the phones out on your line?
Yeah - I want to switch my line from the old incredible into a new phone. Should I just go to Verizon and have them program the new phone?

CDMA != GSM
I believe you might be confusing swapping out a SIM card for transferring your number to another phone. You can get the phone off of eBay or CL, go to your local VZW store, and just have them transfer your number to your new phone. I believe the TB should come with the 4G LTE SIM card (has nothing to do with a GSM SIM card). If not I'm sure when you go to VZW to activate the phone that they will give you one there.

I'd recommend going to Verizon because you need to get a SIM card to activate the device anyway. Head over there and tell them that you're switching your DInc out for the Thunderbolt and that you need a SIM for it. They can activate it on the spot for you.
Even if he did get a SIM card with it, that SIM is not tied to his number. I'd still suggest going to Verizon and letting them handle the situation.
As someone who just purchased a TB this way I can confirm: just walk into a corporate Vzw store and they'll give you a new sim (free) and activate your phone.
Kind of annoying having a sim like that, we used to be able to change equipment on he fly through Vzw.com or over the phone.
VZW's 4G phones still use ESN numbers too. The sim is just to get access to the 4G network. You will want to make sure the phone you are buying has a clean ESN number. If VZW has it flagged as stolen or something, they wont activate the phone for you and there's nothing you can do.
I just purchased a used Photon 4G. The phone works great but it did not come with the sim card. I would like to be able to use it overseas so I need the sim card. I went to my Sprint store and they told me they do not sell the sim cards.... I talked to Motorola and they told me to talk to Sprint... There are sim cards on the Internet, but I have no idea if they will work with the Photon. So.... Where can I buy the OE sim card for my Photon?
It's an unlocked sim port, so any provider sim will work, but keep in mind that at&t & t-mobile frequencies are blocked from being seen by the radio. Hopefully a dev will be able to rewrite the radio to pick them up.
So this one will work?

So would this card work if, (when), I take my phone out of the country?
What are you trying to do? If you want to use the phone out of the USA for voice/data or mixed for inexpensive..Then purchase a pay as you go number and Sim in the country. If you want to use your USA number for very expensive then use that card.
Very simple.

it is from us cellular if you ask me its the s3 mini anyways itsa cdma phone that has a sim slot which has a card in it for us ceullar. now im confused the phone specs say its cdma only but with a sim card that makes me t hink its gsm global(locked to any us gsm providers im sure) and cdma so I would assume it will work with say cricket wireless.
I am leaving u ceulluar and would like to use the phone with c ricket wireless and being its a cdma phone im surei could it is just that sim card confused me.
I know on phone in past cricket can take your imei i think it is and use a tool over the phone to convert it to propperly work on their network.
So basically anyone know if this phone can be used with cricket? is it locked? do I ahve to flash it. if the gsm part is locked that wont matter since i will only be ising the cdma part. here is the link to the phone on us cellular

Edited: The sim card has your programing for CDMA & 4g/LTE access. Just took mine out and it has zero service without it. I would guess as long as you put it in another compatible phone you would get service.
Hoping someone will figure out a simple rooting method, but doesn't appear there is a lot of interest yet.

Thanks but nah not what I was wanting, i wanted to be able to use the phone on cricket but since they dont use sim cards since their phones are cdma was why I was confused that this one has a card since usually only GSM phones use those. so im guessing I wont be able to use it on their network if they added it..I know they can convert certain imei's over the phone with a tool they ahve with cricket support but have not tried that yet.

So, just wondering, would the Samsung Axiom work on T-Mobile or AT&T ?
yes and no
The R830 by U.S cellular is a CDMA phone. now ah days having a sim card slot does not symply mean its GSM ....TMobile....GSM ALL DAY. ATT GSM all day. Vzw,sprint, uscellular...CDMA. the Sim card in question is a 4glite. it controls the 4g side and basically activates the phone upon new activation. the question is: WELL THIS PHONE WORK ON CRICKET? Answer...yes...I put one on Pageplus by just activatiing the imei and then OTA...but I'm having trouble with the DAta side... cant get data or MMS (picture messaging) to work..talk and texts works fine.....Now im on to figuring out how to get this thing into DiagMode without rooting it Oh yeah.....try activating your Imei on cricket and then star code it. . if it asks you to press 1 or 2 but you dont see a keyboard,....thats okay...just let the lady run her mouth until the music starts playing....when its done the phone will restart and you'll have talk and text

No, your phone will not work on either. The sim slot in question is for 4glte, all 4g phones will have this sim slot. A GSM sim will not provide any functionality at all.

Was anyone got success in enabling the data ???
So i just picked up a used photon to use in Europe but have been reading some disturbing info. Some of it is rather old so just wanted to get updated info.
1. I want to use a local foreign sim. Can i just put one in and use it?
2. Do i need to call sprint to unlock it? I did put in an old Wind sim from italy while I am still here in the U.S. and it asked for a PIN. Is that a PIN I get from Wind or sprint?
3. I read somewhere about renaming two files to bypass the Sprint activation screen. Is that still recommended even though this phone is activated and i using it as my normal cellphone in the US? Pros and cons of doing this?
4. I read somewhere that I will not be able to use foreign sim data/internet? Is this still true. Is there any workaround for this?
Any recent real world experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

1) Yes. Depending on the carrier you may need to configure the APN's for data / internet. Orange UK was just plug and go for me. Vodafone Romania and Tigo Colombia needed APN's configured. If you buy the SIM at the office of the carrier they will help you configure it at that time. If you buy the Sim online, Tweakker or APN Global can help. Both are available on Google Play, or you could always go to the carrier's office.
2) No need to unlock. The PIN would be from the operator (Wind in your case). Normally the PIN is on the little card that the SIM card pops out of of.
3) I never did this. I think that was just for people who were not going to be able to activate the phone in the US. Since yours is already activated I would not worry about it.
4) You can use 3G data assuming APN's and your Sim / plan are current.
I had a few annoyances trying to get prepaid sim cards to work for both voice and data in Iceland and Germany, but I was eventually able to get them to work.
