If you can unlock your boot loader,.. Then it's easy to root by installing a custom kernel....

AFAIK, right! Just flash a ROM/kernel combo and you'll have root with most ROMs out there.

Need a link for my Rom. Please help.

Hi
as some of you know I'm working on stockmod rom... I need help finding a link... The rom I currently have is only flashable through odin as its the 4 files including bootloader, recovery and the. tar.md5 file containing the rom. What I need is a .zip of the stock 2.2 firmware that is flashable through clockworkmod. Please help, thanks.

Just download the stock jb Rom. Extract the boot.img then download mystery's 4.1.2 kernel the drag the boot.img you extracted into Mystery's Zip than flash it.

What is a custom kernel?

I've heard that there's this thing called custom kernel and it is required to make swapper work in a rooted device. What it is exactly and where can I find one for my device??

Custom Kernels are nothing but modified stock kernel. Its done in order to achieve some features which is not present in the kernel provided by Manufactures. You can find one for your device if anybody has created a custom kernel for your "device". Kernels are device specific too.

But before installing a custom kernel, can I take a backup of my stock kernel too incase something goes wrong?

Yes, keeping backup of stock kernel is recommended. Kernels are called as boot.img and it should be possible to extract from the device using ADB.

Yes, can do it from CWM. Take a complete Nandroid backup. Open it, and if you see boot.img then you've got your kernel.
all roms have custom kernels ?
I have Note2 and it seems that the chip i have is faulty and i was advised to don't use custom kernels. so there is a way to know if the custom rom is using stock or custom kernel or in other words all roms are having custom kernels ?
