Im trying to root & unlock my Galaxy S2 in order to use a GiffGaff SIM but am struggling to find an insecure kernel as the link on the XDA developers site to a suitable kernel on hotfile was broken - something about a copyright infringement. I have spent most of the afternoon searching the web for a solution - without success. My phone details are:
Model Number= GT-I9100
Android Version= 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
Baseband Version I9100BVLS4
Kernel Version 3.0.31-889555
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Fri May 31 18:58:34
KST 2013
Build Number= JZ054K.I9100XWLSY
The phone is currently locked to T-Mobile in the UK. I have downloaded, KIES (installed & working), ODIN & Samsung Quick Root, but cannot move forwards without an insecure kernel. I have searched all over this site for a solution..
Many thanks in anticipation and sorry for the dumb newbe type question...
Flash philz kernel for root and cwm recovery and a custom kernel. Galaxy sim unlock from playstore should unlock it. If not maybe a carrier free firmware from Sammobile.com and flash that through Odin.

Hi All,
I am really new to the whole android scene. I tried searching for a exact answer in the forums with some luck I found bits and pieces of information. I am trying to find the correct insecure Kernel to root my Samsung Galaxy S2, Australian 3 Mobile carrier.
PDA: I9100TDUKF4
PHONE: I9100TDUKF4
CSC: I9100THUTKG1
Build Info: Wed Jun 29 17.28.38 KST 2011
From what I read on the forums you can use any insecure kernel that has a number close to the one on the phone.
looking at the available kernels on Odia's thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671&highlight=I9100TDUKF4
which would be the better insecure kernel to use?
GT-I9100_XWKF4_insecure or GT-I9100T_DUKF2_insecure
Thanks in advance!
Hey there,
After 2 years I've decided to root my SGS2, Ive been through flashing with nokia's and that kind of things. However, Im a total NOOB in android rooting.
My problem is the following:
I've updated my phone to ICS 4.0.4 (biggest mistake of my life).
Now I've searched everywhere to find a root manual for my Firmware-version, but I keep coming up with german sites (I'm Dutch).
Google translate does its work like a piece of sh**, so I've lost all of my faith.
After some crappy translating, I read something about a hard-brick of this firmware.
My question is: Wich version is safe to root on my phone?!
Info about my phone:
Carrier: T-mobile
Model: GT-I9100 (ofcourse)
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: I9100BOLP7
Kernel version: 3.0.15-1056084 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 24 17:36:36 KST 2012
Build number: IMM76D.BOLPM
I hope my question isn't a dumb one, if so, I'm sorry!

Flashing Siyah will also root your phone. Just make sure you use the correct version of Siyah for your model and version of Android.
You do not need to root your phone to flash Siyah kernel.
When you flash Siyah you will get root. Here's what you do:
#download siyah kernel
#Boot phone to download mode
#Open Odin and connect phone
#put siyah kernel .Tar file in PDA section of Odin.
#click start.
It is extremely difficult to brick your phone flashing a kernel in Odin.
Good luck
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Thanks! I used the PhilZ method before seeing this, and worked great!

Model : GT-I9300
Android 4.1.1
Baseband ver I9300NEDLI1
Kernel ver
3.0.31-288630
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Mon Oct 8 12:58:21 KST
2012
Build Number

I wanted to try Siyah Kernel and wanted to flash it via MobileOdin, which i have.

Hello,
I've bought Korean Samsung Galaxy Note (KT version- SHV-E160K.
It has JB 4.2.1, rooted (already had SuperSu). It also has setting and apps from KT and some Illegal stuff.
I don't know if for example the seller didn't install some custom ROM, or he rooted this to unlock the phone (I live in Poland).
The *#1234# shows:
PDA: N7000ZSLO2
PHONE: E160SKSJLL7
MOVINAND NONE
Build Info: Wed Feb 13 16:58:41 KST 2013
However something What is "KT hidden menu" (you access it after dialing 319712358 and typing password 774632) shows a lot of Korean pre-sets and as for system:
H/W: E16.10
BOOT: E160KKKJMB1
PDA: N7000ZSLO2
PHONE: E160SKSJLL7
And the device info from settings givs us this KERNEL:
3.0.31-704944
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Wed Feb 13 16:51:33 KST 2013
Now getting to the problem(s):
- can't login, or even open or install anything from Samsung.
- can't install any SD card (doesn't see it);
- can't connect to KIES;
- very quiet microphone (callers feedback).
What can I do?
I've already hard reset the phone, reintaled ps drivers, downloaded korean drivers, etc.
HELP PLS!

You could try flashing a stock firmware through Odin, seems you have not done that yet. You can search for stock firmware and guides on how to flash through Odin in XDA or other sites.

I did read a lot of posts online regarding the SHV-E160K and flashing new ROM to this one could be very unpredictable.
I also can't find any recovery that is suitable for MB1 or LL7 (to be honest I am still confused which i should look for).
On Korean samsung site there is only a upgreade file from Gingerbread to JB. I can't find anything on sammobile or elsewhere.
I just want to have Samsung stuff (like s-pen, link, etc.) and to have a functional network PC-PHONE-TV (all samsung).
Any hints?

A stock ROM is your best bet mate. Because the device you may have might be tinkered with, that is why you are experiencing weird bugs. I would try just looking for a file name for a JB firmware even with a dead link, and 'Google' it. I usually find those firmwares in 4shared.
