Hi All,
i did some search already, but want more opinion on this matter.
I live around east-bay area and goes to San Francisco a lot.
I currently have sprint as a cell carrier.
I am super in need of an upgrade as i currently have a LG lotus lol
I am looking at either the international version or the sprint version of the galaxy S3, before i give a breakdown of my options, please keep in mind that price is not one of my determine factor at all, i have enough money for all my options.
options 1: Buy a brand new s3 from sprint when it comes out and use sprints network, my concern here is that from my personal experience, sprint's data is sloooooooooooow.
options 2: cancel plan with sprint. Buy international version and start a plan with AT&T. (better option in my opinion since i have really bad experience with sprints data speed, literally at hundreds of kb/s download all the time plus they never have 4g signal any where i go!?)
My questions for everyone here is this, i am going to use the phone mainly for navi, web browsing and GAMING. i will be using many emulators to play games on this phone. Would the international version of the s3 out perform the US version ? i believe they do have much higher benchmark score don't they ?
another question is, if i chose to go the international version with at&t route, is the unlimited HSPA+ trick always work ? i have seen post where people say it worked for a day and they automaticly change the data plan back to 3gb/month plan?
any opinion or advise would be much appreciated !!
thanks in advance
Jason
Medianet ($10 unlimited on AT&T) works if you aren't stupid with it. I had $50 everything working great with GoPhone until I decided to try and download a large file.
Then I put the sim card in another phone and it worked again. Go figure.
Look at this thread. It is perfect for you.

You are wrong... i have been downloading torrents and heavy files going up to 20 gb a month on medianet without issues. You must have done something silly.
Look at other user experience here in this thread :

thanks all for the advise. i am most likely going for the international version.
my last question would be,
do you guys think the U.S. version would be able to run play station emulator as smooth as the international version ? the international version have much better GPU correct ?
The GPU on the international version is indeed higher and would probably run it more smoothly than the US version, But I don't see why the US SGSIII wouldn't be able to run it (I haven't tested it on the US device, I'm just guessing XD lol)
Ok Guys, thanks for all the help and advise, just 1 last question.
i am going wit the international version for sure now.
i do NOT have any plans or acct wit at&t right now, and i want to be on a prepaid plan.
i was originally going to go into the store, ask them i want a prepaid card with unlimited talk txt and web for $50, but they say in order to start any prepaid plan i need to have a at&t phone to start the plan with ?
I then went into the store and talked to a rep, he told me i could just bring the international unlocked sIII in the store and he can put prepaid unlimited data on there but he's not sure if the data will work, and if it does, i will only have HSPA not HSPA+ ??
i am confused, If i dont have existing plans with at&t and i want have a prepaid unlimited talk txt and data with HSPA+ network. how do i go about doing this the most legit way ??
really is my last question please help !! getting the phone tonight !!
soooo excited !!

Bought a used HTC One M9 (Sprint). ESN is OK, but after purchase learned 'Owner Mismatch / FED Not Met', which I think means it's not stolen but a previous owner owes Sprint. The seller says he bought it used also and it's not him who owes Sprint, and can't or won't help me.
I paid a lot for this and need to activate it somehow, somewhere. Currently with a Sprint MVNO but open to moving to any network where I can activate it. Can it be used on a GSM network, or just CDMA?
What do I need to do to finally use it? ASAP, please, as in my frustration I just broke my current POS.
Thanks for any and all help!
Outta luck. Get a full refund if you can. Sprint's got a really nasty policy when it comes to unlocking for cricket/boost AND it's CDMA only so... Unless you're gonna to global to like Korea or India you can't activate it anymore. The only methods left are things like editing IMEI, but that's illegal lol.
I'd like to use the phone, and though I could ask, I doubt the seller (an individual) is going to agree to a refund.
Can you tell me or point me where I'm likely to find accurate directions and the program or tool to edit the IMEI? The phone's not rooted (nor have I experimented with that), but I can be careful (with guidance) if that's my only real option.
Thanks for helping!
I was told there's a guide to repairing (changing) an IMEI number here at XDA, but haven't found it. Can someone correct me? Also, as a clueless noob, any and all advise on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
Phone is an HTC One M9 for Sprint, bought used. Clean ESN (not blacklisted, stolen or reported lost), but previous owner owes Sprint money, I'm told when trying to activate it. I'm with a Sprint MVNO (Kroger i-Wireless, that allows bring-your-own-device, but since I can't return the phone to get my money back, willing to move to any service where I can activate it.
Not clear on this stuff, but I don't have it unlocked (boot, S-ON, or carrier) not is it rooted, though I'll do whatever it takes to be able to use it (myself or pay someone else to do it).
Please help.

yeah, get a refund or give up...editing the imei isnt like editing a build.prop heh...and if you cant get a refund get something for it as its now a paperweight, if you have money then just simply go buy a used one online from swappa, ebay etc..
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Sprint is a real bastard with FEC. This phone can do GSM, you could take it to T-mobile but you would first need to do a simunlock on the phone. There are two kinds, domestic sim unlock and international sim unlock. You will need to have a domestic sim unlock done on your phone before it will accept a t-mobile sim card. Also, the phone will do voice and 3g okay but LTE support is limited (sprint version does not support all of the lte bands which t-mobile uses).
Honestly you are probably better off selling the phone on Swappa (assuming you werent able to refund from seller). Phones with FEC problems will usually work on Sprint directly, but not with MVNOs. When buying a sprint phone for a MVNO always ask the seller to check the IMEI at your operators website or ask for the IMEI to check yourself.
May be useful hint regarding Mismatch or FED problem
Old post, but there may be people searching high and low with this very problem and I hope this helps someone.
Domestically, it just may hypothetically be possible to go ahead and activate the phone with prepaid Sprint. Without purchasing a plan, even, just getting the number assigned. Maybe you would need to deactivate the phone online, or it may not even matter. Then, it's a possibility an mvno such as....ring+ may accept and activate the esn you provide when you check for the eligibility online.
Then after you have successfully gotten your assigned number, maybe an hour later you might decide that ring+ isn't right for you after looking at the prices and stipulations more closely and deactivate device.
Then, you may find that you are able to activate your phone on the mvno of your choice.
Maybe I know of someone who thought they were buying a brand-new never activated Sprint-branded phone that could be used on an mvno and ended up accidentally finding a way. Or thought that since the phone was used and deactivated and had that Sprint brand on it but no indication that it was a prepaid device and not postpaid that a Sprint mvno of their choice would accept.
I am new to the developers forum but I'm praying that someone will be able to help me out. I went and paid a guy to unlock my Sprint Note 3 so that I could use it with T-Mobile but when I took the phone to T-Mobile they said it can't be activated because it's still under contract with Sprint. Now the guy that unlocked the phone knew it was under contract when he unlocked it and didn't say anything about it being a problem. I would really like to just undo what was done to my phone and stay with Sprint if possible. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance for any and all help
Try sprint prepaid
I'm currently an AT&T customer but wanna buy a new phone and switch to Straight Talk.
Hey XDA,hows everybody's day going so far?
Ok, so I have a LG E980 on AT&T. Phone is showing age and the headphone jack is having a hard time connecting. Time for an upgrade.
So I wanna keep the same number but switch to Straight Talk. How does this work? Do I buy the unlocked one or the AT&T and bring my AT&T phone to Straight Talk?
I hope somebody can help me with this. Does anybody know how long it takes for a phone number to transfer to a different carrier?
Thanks in advance for helping me.

Ask straight talk if you can bring your phone to there service, should be able to I think? Yeah it's pretty easy to port number over. When you get service call straight talk customer care number and they will contact old carrier for you.

First of all chose the phone you want. As for AT&T version or US unlocked version (RS988), it will depend on if root and twrp is important to you or not. If you want TWRP and root, get the RS988 version (I recommend getting it from B&H photo) as it can be bootloader unlocked, rooted and install twrp. It also has all the network bands for AT&T, T-Mobile & Verizon. If you don't care about root you could do the AT&T version if you want. As far as transfering your service, it's pretty easy. Go to walmart (or where ever) and buy the Bring your own phone package (you can buy an AT&T sim from straight talk for the BYOP program as well and it's cheaper). Once you do that activate your service using the instructions for your new G5 and chose the option to port your number. Straight talk will need your AT&T account number and account password to transfer your service, but it usually is pretty quick that it transfers, unless you run into a problem.

Thank you, very much for the info.
Please someone help me with this. I got my phone from a friend who is with Verizon. He has not used this lgv600 in a while. And gave it to me. He's up to date with his bill.its over the 6 month mark. But for some reason will not unlock this phone from verizon carrier so that I can use my cricket services with it. Can someone help me . I've read all over everywhere and have only found that there is not a firmware to crossflash what ever it is for this carrier. If there is. Can you please send it my way and tell me how. I also don't want to lose money paying someone who can't. Or gives me something that's going to mess it up in any way. Also after I do get it. Will it be updated or will I need to do that afterwards? I have been searching a few years now for this. I love the phone. It's my favorite. I just wish to use it with my cricket services. Thank you for anyone who helps.
