[Q] cm11 gps and signal issue - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hey guys, can't post in the development section yet, so sorry this is here.
But I'm on 2/17 cm11 official nightly, and every time that I have my gps connect in Google maps, it completely kills my signal. It did this on 2/15 and 2/16 for me also.
Anyone have any clue as to why??
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

Strange, I've been following the nightly builds since 13/02/2014.
The nightlies seem quite stable to me. Just small things pop up, like: I keep my apks on my phone so it's easy to install them again. One apk I have is uTorrent, however I label it correctly with the Greek symbol and all.. the symbol comes out like Chinese and I can't install the apk because there is a parsing error.. Stock android displayed the symbol and installed it with no issue.
Anyhow, wrt the GPS, I was using TomTom yesterday and found that it really struggled to locate me, it would have my position, then the next thing it jumped somewhere else and made me very confused. I set the location setting to "high accuracy". I'm really unsure if it's cm11 causing the problems for me, although i didn't experience it before on stock. I did not notice a lost cellular connection though. Will try it out again and take note.

As much as I love cm, I've taken a break for a bit and I'm on a blur based rom now.
Been working about 60 hour weeks and also have a baby at home, phone tinkering time has decreased a lot lately. But, beauty of slots means I'll be able to flash occasionally and still have reliable to fall back on!

Issue with GPS

Sorry all if this has been touched on but I'm at work right now and the search on the app isn't the same as the full sites. Anyway, I first ran into this issue on listybs nomsensikal 4.6 and now I'm kaosfroyo v32 and when I open gps and type on the address, it begins to load but freezes on the screen where it loads the route but isn't actually navigating..It just keeps searching for gps...after about thirty minutes if finally starts telling me how to get where I am going...i think my issue may stem from TransparentKaos as I used this on both roms and hadn't had issues before flashing it, if anyone has got two cents to throw my way it would be appreciated.
edit- it's definitely not transkaos, which is a relief cause i love the theme but i'm still not sure why this is happening to me, i've done a full wipe and reinstalled the rom but still not picking up the gps signal consistently, randomly it will work right away but mostly waiting for at least 20 minutes before it finds it...not sure whats up

CM10 GPS working!

I've been running deck's version for a couple months, keep updating, but GPS never works. And, yes I've tried the nand to sense and back.
Well, deck hasn't pushed an update on almost a week. No complaints, we all need down time. Not that he's actually taking down time, he could be pushing a huge update who knows.
Being a flashing addict, I decided to throw the official cyanogenmod version to get my flashing fix. I popped open GPS essentials, and bam fix in a few seconds. Not only that from inside my house, near a window it tracked 15 sats and locked 13.
Just thought I'd share, I know a lot of folks would love to have some GPS with their Jelly Bean.

Oddly..never once had any problems with GPS or locking. Always locks down to a foot or so on any ROM I have used so far, lucky I guess but haven't seen too many complaints of GPS related issues. This cell is like the OG EVO, every model is slightly different with results especially with OCing etc.. Glad it works for you!
My GPS has been working for months. But I did have to do the "flash to a Sense ROM" thing. Looking forward to the big update.
I'm surprised at the response. I've heard a lot of complaints about GPS with CM10. I have flashed every one of deck's updates as they came out from the IRC channel. I have even done full wipe multiple times, just to make sure it was clean. And never once have I had GPS work. Weird!
I guess each unit is different. Just odd that it instantly began working with the official nightly. It just seems too coincidental.
Did you get a good solid lock while on a sense ROM before going to recovery to flash AOSP. Works for me.

Thanks for sharing this info. I have the same issue when using navigation.
Is gps screwed in deck's roms? At least, up until recently? I'm on the 11/24 nightly.

I haven't had a single issue but those who are need to either run GPS status to clear cache and download new agps data or flash sense and use ##gpsclrx# to clear cache and then open maps to get a lock and flash back to cmx. It's not ideal but it works
I can empathize with the thrill of having working GPS on an aosp rom.
Both on the OG Evo and this LTE it has been hit or miss for me.
I tended to shy away from aosp roms in the first place since CM7 and the endless bootloops some were having off of it on the OG.
When i would try one i liked and then the GPS and Nav wouldn't work, it would really be a drag. I would jump through all sorts of hoops to try to get it working but sometimes it would just not work for me.
Hey DW!
I did the get a "sense GPS lock, leave it locked, then go and flash cm10." That Scott mentions.
It worked fine. I've been using it all week with Google now and no issues.

I'm using CM10 and having constant issues with google maps stopping in the middle of navigating, etc. This has been going on a few months.
Is this the same issue? Is there any way to fix this without reflashing/losing settings, etc?

If its been a few months then it sounds like you are on a old ROM. I'd try the newest one. Or go to recovery and try fixing permissions.

Thanks for the response, but that's lasted through a few versions of cm10, I think.
A few weeks ago, goomanager prompted for upgrade to cm10 and I did it. I still have the issue.
It seems like scout works a lot better, but gmaps navigation always "stops" when using it.
Not sure then I only clean flash and haven't had any problems.

I have had that work before too. I'd get a lock on a Sense rom, then use Titanium to back up my GPS Test app, flash over to the AOSP and restore it there and sometimes it would work.
Then I Nand it while it is working, flash another rom, decide to restore the 'working' gps nand, and it doesn't work again. I can't figure it out. :cyclops:

What ROM doesn't have broken GPS?

I've used a few Jelly Bean ROMs since switching to Straight Talk last night on my unlocked Note. Everything works fine on Straight Talk except GPS. Just can't seem to get a signal no matter what I do.
Are there any non-stock ROM's (preferably JB) that GPS works 100%?
Thanks!
I have tried almost all the roms...And use gps daily...The worst I seen is its lock time connecting...but it eventually works..also a gps fix I seen somewhere.Plus a Gps app that helps fix connection gime to satellites
But the best fix is to change out you cong files to a better region...
And you can also save google maps for OFFLINE so you can use it????
Just save the files..and open it up when needed!
CM10 nightlies lock on pretty quickly and repeatedly. May want to give them a try.

The above app has a feature that will reset the aGPS data and download new data as well. Works extremely well when traveling overseas or in a new area.
Trying CM10 now (latest build)...gotta get this GPS working...other than this the Note and Straight Talk has been awesome!

I have no problems with GPS, been using Dagr8's ROMs for a while, King Kang, currently using the AOKP JB B5.
I found this for saving offline maps..hope this helps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412755
Well I installed Cryagen Nightly CM10 (version released today) and still no GPS...tried King Kang and AOKP with the same results...even been outside fir a while with still nothing.
Download the app for the play store in my first post. It will give you an option to download a-GPS data. Once the note has that lock on is about 5 seconds.
Tried this and still doesn't work. I'll be calling Straight Talk tomorrow if no one has any more suggestions!
Thanks!

why not connect to wifi so its faster at home or what not..Then just save the maps for offline use? ..for now anyways till you find a more stable connection..least it will help if you need to get somewhere..the maps you can save are huge...
I am on straight talk as well for about two weeks. I needed navigation and realized i couldn't get it to work. I have tried a few different thing as well. No dice. I would be interested in how your conversation goes with ST. Please give a update.

TO Kinz1980:
Have you actually tried to go out and about with the GPS or are you just sitting inside trying to get it to work? Also, have you tried different ROM's and what not? Read below to see my (possible) fix and current experiences.
Well, while on the phone with Straight Talk to see what the issue COULD be I was standing outside with them on the phone and all of a sudden my GPS started working. Maybe I wasn't thorough enough in my own testing (actually walked out to the street today...previously I was just on my porch)?
I tested it a few times with closing the app, restarting it...locks on to my position damn quick and is very accurate...to a degree (see below). Also my phone died this morning so maybe the battery hitting 0 then recharging or something did it, I don't know for sure.
All I know is that its working (using CM10 nightly build) with Google Navigator for the most part. I will use it later today IRL when I've got to go to a friends house then update once I know its actually WORKING turn-by-turn.
I know when I was outside today it was a tad slow in updating my position (walked about 100ft up the street a few times and it was very slow to notice the change in location/direction or didn't change at all on some occasions) and a couple times the GPS signal would drop for a few seconds, etc. So like I said, I'm going to do more thorough testing here in a bit and update with my final results.
All I do know is that it is at least WORKING...may not be super good at this point, but I am getting a lock. Its a start!
I was driving when it was not working. When i am at home it uses wifi. i am using the blackstar Rom right now. I like cm roms but i like yo use the s-pen. I guess i could flash a different Rom and see if this makes a difference. I don't use gps on a daily basis but when i use it i need it to work. I will be watching this thread closely.

Well after leaving my house GPS has ceased to function. Really starting to make me wonder what the actual issue here is. I'm guessing ROMs? Will just have to try a stock ROM later tonight. Weird how it works fine for some and not for others...like, what's the missing link here?

I was having the same issue, and slowly realized that the jb gapps was the issue for me. If I used the July gapps for JB it would get a signal and work, but if I used an updated version of gapps, it would not work. Might try installing the July JB gapps and see what happens. It only took me four days to finally figure out what was wrong, becuase it was working before the update to a newer gapps.
This is after 20 min moving around inside and outside.

So do you just have to NOT update them gapps then? I understand what you are saying...but Google Maps isn't even part of the gapps package. So what is updating in the gapps that breaks functionality?

[Q]Phone intermittently stops receiving texts and phone calls

Hi guys. I'm having a real hard time with my phone right now and I hope someone can help me.
First of all, my Note is still on ICS running the last stable build of CM9 (CM 9.1.0 to be exact) without any other kernel or radio modifications. I just performed a clean install of this the other day also. The problem I'm having is that the phone will literally be sitting next to me connected to my home wi-fi and it will fail to receive texts and phone calls. What I mean by that is, my girlfriend will be trying to text me but nothing will come through on my phone for up to an hour. Then at some random time, all the so-called pending SMS will finally display on my phone all with the same time-stamp. Similarly, if someone tries to call me, I will have no notification of this until way after the fact when the voicemail symbol appears (that's IF a message was left).
Now, to me, this seams to be happening at completely random times and I have not been able to pinpoint what's causing it. Before, I used to think it happened after a prolonged time of having the phone on silent and non-use. But just last night the problem happened again when this was not a factor.
A few other notes:
Only seems to happen at home where I am connected to wi-fi. And frankly, I don't travel enough to test my phone anywhere else. While at home my signal strength on AT&T fluctuated between 0-1 bar up to 3 bars. Kinda strange, I know.
Before switching to the CM 9.1.0 rom, I was using CM9-Kang h0tsauce "9" 20120817 *reborn* for quite some time. I experienced the problem with that rom as well but it didn't seem to happen as much.
Rebooting the phone seems to help. When I do this, it seems to push everything through and allows me to be able to receive new messages instantly. Obviously, though, this is not a good work-around since I have no idea when the problem will show up.
So.... anyone know what's going on here? Hardware/software/network problem? I've done some searching but couldn't really find this issue discussed anywhere else. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have been having the same problems as you on a Blackstar X and Flapjaxxx's ICS build 12. I talked to AT&T a couple of times and they reconnected me to the network which has helped a little, but I still get missed texts and calls, but not as often. I have no idea how to fix the issue. Hopefully, somebody out there does.
Sounds like to me that you have a very bad signal. In case you didn't know, texts go through the phone signal and not wifi. The wifi connection is just a coincidence since you never leave home and are always connected to wifi. Going somewhere with a better signal would help clarify this.
There are apps on Google Play that restore your network when it goes down. Possibly they may help you.

I started having this issue with my One X. Git a replacement and had the same issue. Now on my note I have the same issue. It's only at home though and I'm on wifi. Started on BlackStar X now I'm on FJ AOSPxxx JB. Seems to happen more. Think I might go back to BlackStar. Didn't happen as much

Also ..if going back to blackstar ...
The older version is UCLF6 ...And the newer version comes from the N7005 device base .....
Not that it makes much difference, but the older version will likely give you the same results as FJ's UCLF6 builds.....
You may want to try the newer version first ...g
Edit: the older builds allow the use of FJ's 3.0.2 kernels....the newer base will not.

[Q] So how bad is the GPS / 911 situation?

I want a device that "just works". But I also want a relatively current version of Android (4.1+).
I don't like spending more time trying to get my device to work than actually using the device.
I've been getting rid of my older devices, and I'm probably getting rid of my Galaxy S 4G next. There has never been an official CyanogenMod release for it, and the current software doesn't work with the GPS.
I noticed the Galaxy S Vibrant had official CM and AOKP releases. Great! I can install a stable release and be done with it... But then I started reading about the GPS issues. From what I've read:
GPS doesn't work right. There are patches you can try, but then they break 911.
Is that the current situation? I have to pick between GPS or 911 if I want to use a Jelly Bean ROM on the Vibrant?
From what Iv heard the 911 issue is compleatly fixed. And GPS on this phone is complete and total s*it
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
OK, I've been playing with the Vibrant/SGH-T959 on CM 10.1.2 for a few days.
GPS will usually see 10-13 satellites and get a lock within a few seconds. Accuracy has been as good as 20 feet. (I've only been testing this indoors.)
...If it works.
Twice now it seemed like GPS just "died". I had to reboot to get it working again. I see on the CM bug tracker (http://code.google.com/p/vibrant-cm/issues/list) that GPS can randomly crash.
^Try the gps hardware fix, my gps was absolutely awful before but now it works great. There is a tutorial in the Bible thread showing how to do it. You basically bend the copper conductor up slightly to help it make contact. Samsung really messed up the design or rushed it , simply bending the copper up fixes the issue.

My T959 has a "10.10" date on it, which should be new enough to have whatever improvement Samsung implemented (mentioned in the hardware fix thread).
I'm not too concerned with the the reception. When it works, it can get a lock from a fresh reboot in under 2 minutes. The signal ain't so bad. I don't expect to use this for navigation.
The problem is when GPS "dies". I don't know if it happens after deep sleep, or what. I'd rather it work all the time, even with a bad signal, than sometimes work well, and sometimes not work at all.
Edit, here's a description of what it does:
http://code.google.com/p/vibrant-cm/issues/detail?id=5
That's from August 2012. It still does this, even with the latest CM10 August 2013 builds.
Yea I personally use a Froyo ROM and jilette's gps fix, which has everything working. I also have issues with gps on Jelly bean ROMs. It's give and take really, that's why I prefer Froyo, it has everything I need.
