I wanted to gift my dad a New android Phone , since he as been a great dad and me being a guy with absolutely nothing to offer of value to him, thought A phone would be a good Idea
But that actually turned out a bad Idea, He has A nokia X2 , yeah the same 4 speaker monster with Wireless FM, He likes to pass his time as a retired person with the phone in his pocket with radio on
SO the challenge. an android phone with Wireless FM, but here in India it turned out a nightmare. Many small time companies like MAxx, sansui sell Android phones claiming they have wireless FM ,but when I got it delivered and switched on FM, it was asking for handsfree !
So after purchasing around 5 phones and sending back/ reselling them losing a bit of money , I found a Android phone with Wireless FM Lenovo P770 :fingers-crossed:
This got a new set of problems to me. First the reception is weak, second I located the internal antenna of the radio and there is no Metal receiving aid of any sort provided by Lenovo ( the Nokia X2 has a aluminum back cover to act as antenna, even SE Live Walkman has a slot on back cover for FM , but this model has long been phased out
the Internal Antenna spot, If I put my finger on it or touch it with a metal hanger gives very good output, but remove it and the signal just vanishes , I tried chocolate cover foil , some gimmicky sticker claiming to improve signals in phone, nothing worked
So my query to all my friends here is , is there a way to improve wireless FM signal ?

Hello,
I've purchased 2 GPS antennas for my HTC Touch Cruise and for my friend who has the same phone from a reputed ebay seller who hasn't had any issues before with his products.
I've tried both antennas on my phone and none has shown an improvement, I also tried plugging in the phone to my car charger at the same time while I was in the car in case it had to be powered...but that also didn't work!
I also tried putting the antenna outside and my phone inside and still no signal.
Now it seems unlikely that both antennas aren't working on either Touch Cruise so I wanted to know is there a specific way of doing this? Did I miss a step?
Appreciate all your help!
Alan
Does anyone know if the T-mobile version of the Touch Pro 2 has an external antenna port?
I travel through Texas and Use T-mobile (The coverage is imperfect but can be improved with an external aerial antenna)
In the past I used the Tmob Wing which had a rubber pop off cover on the back that allowed access to the antenna port.
I really miss using my external antenna. I've searched Google and XDA with no luck. Called Tmob PDA support no help there.
Any help on locating this elusive port would be appreciated.
Thanks,
m

err that threads about gps antenna ports, hes on about gsm
For more clarification not GPS but GPRS/GSM
I have this antenna from Wilson Electronics.
http://www.wilsonelectronics.com////ViewProductB.php?ID=21
This for 806-866 MHz / 896-939 MHz / 1850-1990 MHz.
These antennas drastically improve all cell use and improve battery life in the process because the phone does not have to work as hard to acquire or boost a weak signal.
I also believe this makes mobile phone use safer with regard to radiation.
Anyone remember the old days of Cellular? Everyone had a cell antenna on their car. This antenna is similar to those.
I hope someone can help me find out if the TP2 has an antenna port like my T-mobile Wing had.
Thanks,
M
Fil - minoch may be looking at GSM/GPRS external antenna connectors on the TP2, but the themes are connected. There are no - zero - external antenna connectors on the TP2, whether you're looking for GPS, or cellular antenna connectors. It's the single failing on the TP2 that I can identify, regrettably.
Depending on your country, re-radiator antennas for GPS and/or cellular signals are available to mount in your car, but you must look carefully to see if such devices are legal to use in your country.
minoch - I would add that the antenna linked above by you is all well and good, but without an antenna connector (socket) needed on the back of the phone, it's about as useful as a roof rack on a helicopter.
Thus, a re-radiating device of some kind is required.
This article should help you understand the tech behind the solution to the problem: http://www.tech-faq.com/cell-phone-signal-booster.shtml
Thanks for the information Roger.
I suspected this was the case but hoped I was wrong. I guess I'll have to find some sort of induction connection (Those antenna decals that have a wire to hook to an external antenna) It won't be anywhere near as good as a direct connection but hopefully it can help a little.
A shame such a nice expensive phone as the Touch Pro 2 would not have any antenna ports. I guess HTC had to cut cost too..........Damn this Economy.
Thanks,
Minoch
Must admit, it surprised the smelly stuff outta me when I realised there wasn't an antenna connector on the phone. really silly ommission, given all the hooplah regarding hands-free usage while driving your car, and all that similar malarky.
Oh well, guess they throught that the internal antenna was good enough, or, as you suggest, they had to trim down the expense by dropping an external antenna connector and associated printed curcuitry, housings and case adjustments for a grand total of maybe 3.50 GBP per unit before packaging (with adjustments for economies of scale, etc)?
*shrug*
So I had a bit of weirdness with this - I always just took Bluetooth connectivity as a given, but the Lumia 800 seems to be really finicky..
Attempt #1: Existing Jawbone Icon
Connection kept activating and dropping out
Figured it was just because the earpiece was older and things had moved on.
Attempt #2: Brand New BlueAnt Q2
Same issue - repeated dropping out
At this point, I google searched "Lumia 800 Bluetooth Compatibility" and found a rash of posts by people that are running into the same thing. Apparently, Nokia has narrowed the Bluetooth compatibility limiting the number of devices you can use with it. There's probably some bllsh-t reason about imposing this to improve reliability...etc.. but my guess is they want to sell more Nokia headsets because sure enough...
Attempt #3: Brand New Nokia J
Perfect function!
Anyone else run into anything? Wouldn't surprise me to hear that after all the $100 sets above I tried, a $5 cheapy probably works fine..
I ran into similar issues, also with wired handsfrees.
I first tried my old Bluetooth headset(Creative of some sort), sound out worked perfectly but not mic.
I then went and got a pair of wired, asked specifically for one where I would have proper earbuds and a mic that was compatible with WP7/Lumia 800, same story, sound working out but not mic, went to the store and they tried it with an adapter that reverses the order and same result.
Eventually I went to the local Nokia store and dished out about 250 USD for a set of Nokia BH-905i, and those work flawlessly, they are even wired and BT and the ANC works, so to be honest, not really regretting that purchase
Good info, Thor.
I am finding the Nokia J is working well for the most part - with some hiccups; sometimes I have to restart the device; re-pair the J, or both.
One thing I did find is I think the magnetic tab on my generic phone holster is playing havoc with the bluetooth connection. It's never stable when I carry the phone in that.
So have ordered on eBay a non-magnetic case made for the Droid A855 which is identical in size to the Lumia. Will have to see when that comes in if there's a difference.
Right now, weather in LA's hot again, I REFUSE to carry this thing in my pants pockets, and the holster in other respects is just too damned convenient to consider throwing away until the Droid case arrives..
NonMagnetic Droid Case
I got a chinese android mtk phones with a lousy gps, and I heard a lot of people who have the same problem, fixed their gps using copper foil tape, making their own external antenna out of it
So I plan to do the same, after I disassembled the phone, I failed to identify, which is the gps receiver, could someone help me ?
ummm, no one ?
found it, and fixed it, using copper wire+aluminium foil
deleted mtkgps.dat and epo file from data/misc, boot it up, ran gps test only and compared it with my other 2 phones in my room (where the gps signal's usually rare to none)
now it works perfect as car gps, since I planned to use it as a car navigation only LOL
Hi guys,
I recently took apart my moto 360 2nd gen because the battery wasn't holding a charge, and after I installed the new battery, I noticed that the watch's bluetooth range was extremely short. I mean, I have to have it next to my phone (Galaxy S9) in order for it to get a bluetooth connection. I also tested its wifi range, and that has also taken a hit.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Hi Liam. Same happened to me.
Did you find a solution? I suspect is may have something to do with Bluetooth/wifi antenna... I tried to look into internet for schematics or something like this, didn't find any.
The antenna is that sheet of metal paper around the case, it can get loose when putting it back.
Look for a full tutorial that includes the display and try again, if it was damaged you can try with a piece of foil to increase the surface. I have done this to notebook wifi antennas.
