I have a Cingular 3125, working fine for weeks, happened that two days ago, I was charging the phone and transferring files to my computer via Bluetooth, nothing unusual, then it just got frozen, nothing responding, so I just took out the battery to manual reset the device and reinserted it, then tried to turn on the device, but it refuses to boot, no lights at all, also when I attach the phone charger, it doesnt show the usual orange led when charging, but I can feel that the phone gets warmer because the charger is attached and then after a while it gets a bit cooler, just like when it finishes charging, the usual behavior, but again, no lights at all trying to boot it or even attaching the charger, I've tried taking the battery off for hours and nothing also, and I wasnt overclocking the phone... would you say it just died? or maybe someone had same issues and solved it someway? thanks.

OK, I don't remember where I read this, or the exact procedure, but give this a try.
remove the battery, press and hold the red call end key (power key) for 30-45 seconds. insert battery and do a hard reset, IE.. power on holding the 2 top soft keys while powering on the phone.
this method is supposed to clear any mother board issues and reset the phone. It has been a couple of years since I read the procedure so I am not sure if this is the correct way, if it does not work, try the same thing, only try taking the battery out, then put it back in and press and hold the power key for 30 - 45 seconds.
may or may not work, but can't hurt to try.
i had the same problem with startrek which i had bought from eBay
one more advice - try to hold record (notes) and camera buttons and insert an USB cable to your PC, it should enter to Bootloader mode
well, I have dissasembled the whole thing, I havent reached anything, even disconnected the backup battery, nothing, have checked battery with a multimeter and is full loaded... in short, someway the cell phone seems has just died, Erofich, to enter bootloader mode, the phone must turn on, it just doesnt want to start at all, no lights when connecting charger or USB cable... I'm sad because it was working fine with no problems for three months and more sad because it's the end for me to windows cellphones for a long time, I've invested a lot in this phone, accesories, unlocking, and even the same day it died also bought more memory and a neat skin cover and I'm not in mood to invest more in a cell phone so I'll use a spare crappy feature phone.

You could try one last thing, this has worked for me with a couple of startreks,
take the phone apart, and take the motherboard out, use a hair dryer to heat the motherboard, don't get crazy with it, but using the hair dryer on the high setting for about 30 to 45 seconds at about 3-5 inches, might revive the phone. (don't heat the battery, just the motherboard)
Put the phone back together while it is still hot (but not so hot that it will burn your fingers) and try to fire it up.
This has worker for me in 3 cases (phones that I bought off eBay that had the same symptoms as you have described)

I have been struggling to flash (again) the great pro V2 rom, but I always used my VMWare based XP windows version on my Vista laptop. Today I could use a genuine XP Laptop and I could make a connection and start the upgrade!
Sounds good? That's what I thought too, until the upgrade stopped at 70% (and I didn't touch anything), because of a connection error. I followed the text on my PC screen and I finally it started flashing again for a few seconds and then my startrek suddenly restarted, but it stops at the first splash screen! I tried to get my device back to bootloader mode (push 2 soft buttons and start), but no bootloader mode, only the 1st splash.
I solved the problem.
Last night I bought a brand new Streak 5 from a local guy. Box was sealed, no mention of refurb, inner contents were sealed.
I didn't have time to test it and the guy I bought it from said he had gotten it a while back from a work raffle and that it had been sitting in a drawer in his house - I have no reason not to trust that he was lying to me.
When I actually got time to unbox it, I popped the battery in and tried to turn it on. The menu buttons lit up briefly and then when out. The screen never came on. Since then, it has been completely unresponsive.
I've tried to charge it with the wall charger, as well as my PC. Neither seem to be doing anything and my PC doesn't recognize it - even with Dell's software installed.
I've tried to take out the battery and hook it up to the wall charger and my PC to get it to turn on.
I've removed the Micro SD.
There is no SIM card in it currently.
I ordered another battery and an external battery charger. They should be here in a few days. I have the current battery rigged up and charging with a spliced USB cord.
What else can I do? I feel like I've done everything "simple" thus far and I'm a little nervous when it comes to utilities like Streakflash.
I'm coming over from the iPhone world and my Android use has been limited at best. Any help is appreciated.
What happens on the device itself after having had a chance to charge?
Does it light up when you press the power button, or nothing at all?

There is no indication that it's charging. The screen doesn't come on, or even flash. The buttons do not light up. However, I don't believe it's the cable or the connector since my PC responds with an unrecognized device -- "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" prompt. I also managed to get my PC to tell me that the device "wasn't plugged in."
I've tried to get some response out of it in every possible combination regarding the buttons, battery, back cover, microSD, and where it's plugged in. It just sits there. No lit screen, no lit menu buttons, nothing.
If it helps, I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. I've installed every possible thing I could find regarding the Dell drivers and my OS.
It sounds like your device somehow got shipped without having all the software installed onto it.
Can you provide more information about the device itself, such as it's manufacture date or any other info on the box/device labels? Devices getting shipped half baked like that isnt exactly common.
This sounds like a legitamate time to use QDL tool to reflash it, but I cant provide any help with that as I've never used it.
Can you use QDLTool if your computer doesn't even recognize it?
The date on the label is 10/12/2010.
If it's displaying as "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" that's a sign that it should be able to get into upload mode as that's what the driver qdl tool uses I believe.
It's likely out of warrentee already, so you prob have to fix it on your own if at all.
I can't get it to respond to anything I do. It's very disheartening. I really, really wanted this phone, too.
I'm downloading the latest version of Ubuntu. I'm going to see if I can make any headway through Linux.
I can't get QDLTool to pick-up the device, either. I get an error message when I try to use it and scanning for it does nothing.
Did you install the driver bundled with it properly?
If it still doesnt detect it after that it's likely a dud

once installed run the software on pc you should see a big box with "run" on it, click run then connect phone by holding volume up and connecting usb then qdltool will do rest from there
when i got my both my dell streak it was the same deal. first one came exactly as how you described it. I put in the battery, made SURE THAT THE CONNECTORS ARE lined up on the back case, and then tried to power it on. NOTHING.
It seems even if the battery was fully charged, the only real way to turn it on was to connect the streak to the power adapter and then press hold down the on button. WHen the device finally gave me the dell logo, it would just sit there stuck. So i took out the battery, and redid it. Then went into fastboot mode (hold camera and power) and it wouldnt detect the touch screen. It seems that the touch scree was faulty and hence it would remain stuck on the dell logo. I tried to calibrate the touch screen a few times, all failed. Then finally for one time it worked, and the touch screen came back to life. Shortly after though upon booting into the old stage 1.6, it restarted and the touch screen failed again.
So i sent it back to rogers and they gave me a replacement phone. Same deal, when you first put in the battery and the case it wouldnt start no matter what. Only upon plugging it into the power adapter then it starts up. However this new one had a functional touch screen.
1) check out the touch screen by using the fastboot, or stock recovery. If you get error messages, it means your screen is toast most likely and then you might have to open her up and see if all the connections are lined up
2) if it doesnt boot at all, try connecting it to the power adapter first and then after about 30 seconds power it on. You should be able to see the dell logo unless as the guys stated before the software is hosed.
3) if the software is totally hosed, tried to get it into fastboot mode or recovery and see if you can reflash the device.

As of now, it's still in the same position it was in. It doesn't respond to any combinations of buttons, battery in/or, or plugged into the wall/pc.
I'm assuming that the situation it's in currently is what's preventing any sort of legitimate connection between the phone and my PC.
My last shot is a battery and external charger that should be here next week.

I helped a friend of mine root his NT awhile back, and it was working fine for months. I showed him CM7 running off of the SD card and he liked it, so I set it up for him on Friday. I did a factory restore on the NT, and he reentered his BN account info. I then booted off the SD card and everything was working fine as I could tell.
He brought it to me this morning and it won't charge. The "n" is always green when plugged up to the wall and it never goes orange to indicate it is charging. But when I attempt to power it on, it is always displaying the low power message and says to plug in the charger.
What I have tried:
-I removed the SD card, and it still won't charge... (not that it would matter).
-I have 3 chargers and my own NT. When I plug a charger up to my NT it works fine and the "n" goes to orange. But when I plug the same charger into my friends NT, the "n" is green and I can't get past the low batter warning.
-I have had my friends NT connected to a wall charger for about 3 hours this morning and I still can't get it to boot.
Any ideas on what might be wrong and how to fix it?

The same thing happened to my wife's nook this evening. I think the battery is completely run down, but won't receive a charge for some reason. Her charger showed green also.
I tried, removing and reinserting the SD card and also holding power for 20 seconds. I finally was able to hold down the power and the N button down for about 20 seconds. This did the trick. It showed that the battery was too low to turn on. After about 10 minutes, it booted.

strandedinar, did you have the power cord hooked up when you held the power button and "n" button down for 20 seconds?
So connecting the STOCK charger and the STOCK cable and leaving it alone for an hour or so isn't doing the trick? That's really the most that many of us have had to do... No "n" button needed either.

Yes. The nook was plugged in and the "n" was green. The Nook wouldn't power on - My wife was convinced it was my fault for rooting it...
I left it plugged in like that for 20 minutes, but nothing happened when I tried to start it. The charging light was green. I finally tried the power + N button trick and then I received the notice that the power was too low to turn on. This was the first time I received this message. After this, the color of the charging light changed from green to red/orange and I could tell that it was receiving the charge. After 10-15, it power on and has worked normally since.
I tried every thing I could think of and google and nothing worked. I took it to BandN yesterday. They thought it was a typical issue that they see a lot of, but after 3 folks at the store couldn't figure it out, they called 1800 support. Support said it was a bad usb port and swapped it out for a refurbished model.
I still think I could have fixed it, but after a couple of days my friend was getting antsy for it.

How did you do that? I was trying to hold the buttons and never got anything.
My NT has no juice to boot, but when I plug in a power cord (stock), plugged into stock power charger, it tries to boot up. Power indicator does turn orange, but then it runs out of power once it starts booting and turns off. After a few second it turns back on, and repeats same cycle again. It never boots to the point where it can actually sleep, seems that boot-up process takes more energy than charges could give it.
Try charging it from your computer. Just as suggestion not sure if it will help.

Hello Galets, did you manage to finally charge your Nook? I have the same problem as you have - when stock cable and charger are plugged in - device tries to boot and screen shows up but due to lack of power in accum it turns off and in a few seconds the cycle repeats.
I hardly understand - how it is possible that having mains power plugged it - there is not enough energy to charge and do other necessary things...

UPDATE: problem solved. In order to solve it, I had to disassemble the tablet and unplug the screen cord, then I put the power cable in, battery charged up for about an hour or so, then I plugged screen cord back in and turned it on without a problem. The down side of early charge attempts is that tablet decided that I had 10 failed boots and it reset my previously rooted device. Now I have fresh and clean stock 1.4.2 version.

how did you unplug the screen cord? I've looked up how to take apart the nook, but I'm not sure which one would the the screen cord. Did you follow a tutorial somewhere, or was it easy to figure out once you opened it up?

I did not really follow the guide. I was looking for first two bolts to unscrew. The rest was quite simple but challenging - i don't usually disassemble things.
I did not pull out any of the buttons or battery from where they are and simply unplugged their connectors too - you will see 3 small foam rubber black box-like pieces (in step 9 they only marked one of them). There are plastic connectors under foam rubber pieces.
Be careful not to short-circuit anything with metallic tools.
On the attached image I marked the screen connector. I unplugged it by gently hooking it with two small screwdrivers. When putting it back I gently pressed it until I heard a click. And make sure those small slots on connector match with corresponding ones on motherboard.
Also, when finishing assembly I ran into a small problem with corner flap (which covers sdcard) - it did not want to smoothly slide in and out. So, pull it off completely and after putting plastic cover in place and screwing last two bolts, put it back - some small help of small screwdriver will be needed.

thanks, looks cool. I've never taken anything apart before and I'm afraid of short circuiting something. I think I might try this.
Had and still have an issue today. While driving earlier yesterday, I was listening to music in my car with phone connected on headphone jack. It made a buzzing noise( that came through car audio) , I disconnected and removed battery. I replaced battery and phone will not turn back on at all, will only show both Samsung logo's then go black screen. The phone will only power up for a total of 7 seconds from initial power up vibration on any combination of buttons,or even using a JIG
which went right into download mode.
- If I plug into power source , phone will just vibrate.
- I removed battery and replace, both Samsung logo's will appear then turn off.
- If I hold volume down + power button and place battery in, it will go into download mode. In this mode I can hit volume down to restart but it will just stay on black screen. Also if I hold these buttons down and do nothing the screen will just go black after a few seconds.
- I can also put into download mode to hook up to ODIN using same method and pressing volume up, but will say downloading then shut off.
- I've tried holding down volume up+down and power and it will not go into recovery.
- Odin with recognize it for a second (say device plugged in) and start to download files then it will say device unplugged after a few seconds
I've been looking at unbricking and unrooting threads with no luck. Any help is appreciated.
I don't know about the buzzing sound, but the rest sounds like a dead battery. Are you sure it's charged or that your charger didn't die on you? I don't believe phones brick after the flash is up and running.

Yes I'm 1000% percent sure its not a dead battery and even had it at AT&T warranty center this morning having them look at it. I was trying my luck even though its out of warranty. This issue is like none I've heard, because of the fact that phone actually powers up and I can get into download mode within those 7 seconds, but will shut off after. I've timed it till it powers off.

Am having this same issue with my girlfriends phone just as of a couple hours ago. It's completely stock and just recently received an OTA update a few days ago, she showed me bragging how she can watch videos and do other things at the same time now knowing how much I want a Note lol, she's had zero issues with it other than the battery getting very hot while charging a week or so ago and seems to be very slightly bulging now that I've looked at it. Out of nowhere today as we're walking through a parking lot and she's carrying it in her hand, not even using it, she says something is wrong with her phone and hands it to me with it vibrating every couple of seconds and not reacting to any buttons. I take the battery out and when we get inside put it back in and without even pressing anything it goes to the Samsung logo, black, animated Samsung logo, then turns off and goes back to vibrating every couple seconds. I look up the button combination for recovery and download mode and all that, I try recovery and it does the same vibrate every couple of seconds but never goes to recovery, and if I take the battery out, hold down volume down, then put the battery in it comes up with the warning about installing ROMs and all that, weather I press volume down or do nothing it stays at that screen for maybe five seconds then turns off and the only way I can get to the download mode is to take the battery out then press volume down. I have the Sprint Samsung Epic 4G and the batteries aren't the same but are very similar, mine is just shorter and 1500mAh, hers is taller and 2500mAh. So for the heck of it I put hers in my phone and hold it enough to where it connects and turn on my phone without issue, it boots up and shows 70% on the battery, I now have it plugged in and charging the battery at the moment with no issues. I put my battery in her phone and held it till it connects and it does the same Samsung logo, goes black, Samsung animated logo, then turns off BUT no vibrating anymore. If I press ANY button though as long as it's being held it vibrates every couple of seconds and if I hold volume down while I connect the battery it goes to Download mode but can't do anything and it turns off after about five seconds same as before, still no recovery access either. Heard that there is a power button issue with this phone and for the heck of it I've wiggled and pressed the power button with no charger or battery connected for around half an hour just to see if I can make it better, but no luck.
Hope to hear a solution to this. I would take the back cover off and clean the power button but I'm not sure if that would void the AT&T insurance, not going to try till I know I can get away with it without them knowing because if I can't fix it it's getting sent off for repairs.
EDIT: And sort of following captemo's suggestion I took a metal box, laid a hoodie over it for a bit of padding, then moderately bounced the phone on its power button side (without letting the power button be pressed/pushed, by letting it hang over the edge of the box) for a minute or so as if thinking the power button was stuck pushed in and I was trying to knock it back out, then put its battery back in and what do you know it turns on fine now. Weirdest way I've ever had to fix a phone, but hey it works now so the girlfriend will be happy.

Sort of is about right, glad you got it going. Many will complain about the button still clicking even though button is actually stuck. Many have cited some very simple sounding instructions for cleaning power button contacts with minimal deconstruction of phone. Using swab and alcohol. Run a search in q&a, sure you will get something.

So, after recently getting myself a new screen and a back-housing, I took my phone apart, and accidentally snapped the ribbon cable that connects the power button, (should've been more careful). Anyways, now i'm stuck with a phone that works perfectly but doesn't turn on, I ordered myself a new power button but it'll take atleast a week to arrive, so. Are there any workarounds for this? I've tried adb, but it comes back with a "device not found" error.
