Hi all,
I have Sony Xperia Z Tablet which I want to gain root access for.
Device details:
Model number: SGP311
16GB
Android 4.3
Build Number: 10.4.B.0.577
Not sure if relevant, but the tablet was bought in USA.
I'm pretty much a newbe here, so I would like, if possible, to get a link for a simple tutorial how to root my device.
10'x!
If only there was a search button...

Hi Felimenta97,
Thanks for your reply.
I have seen the post you've linked here before I've posted my question (I definitely know how to use the search option ) but its seemed somewhat complicated/Indirect way compare to the simple ways of rooting I'm used to from my 2 other devices (SGS3, Nexus 4)
Is there any simpler/straightforward way?
Thanks in advance!

Nope. There is no current exploit in 4.3 Sony firmware. So, you either unlock your bootloader, or do that process.
Wait till 4.4!
If I was you, I'd wait till KitKat upgrade comes out! after that I'd root my tablet

Why?
What about Kingo App?
You think it might do the work?

Isn't that almost always the case with updates?
Anyway, has anyone tried to root this tablet on 4.3 with Kingo App or VROOT?
10'x all for your help!

I tried with VROOT, but seems like there's no update yet. Was researching about 4.3 root methods, there a few, most of them you have to go back to 4.2 and then upgrade, but a direct root, no, I haven't found one yet :good:

Stock 4.0.3r5a is not rootable. Anticipating your next questions: Your tablet must already be rooted to install pre-rooted 4.0.3r5a. You cannot install or downgrade to an earlier rootable release.

I can't help thinking there's got to be an opening somewhere. After all, how else can Sony's engineers reflash a damaged or corrupted system?
I guess it requires a level of access not available to ordinary users, though. What a PITA....
They can sign the zip offically so a reflash for repairs shouldn't be an issue for them I would think

It works on the 402 firmware as well. You can also use this tool:

I have used it on both the .402 and .314 firmwares. Worked extremely well both times :victory:

I appreciate the guidance, but I, like the OP, would like to know if there is another way of doing this w/o having to downgrade... no need to belittle the question, after all this is a forum, where by definitions questions are expected...
BTW, anybody has found a way to root 4.4.4 w/o downgrade? Thanks!

Despite all the negative feedback you've gotten by asking your question, YES there is a way. I found it and then created a new thread with the step-by-step.
Unfortunately, it does require unlocking bootloader and a few other tradeoffs such as losing X-reality and your warranty.

Depends how you update. Just don't update with ota or pc companion.
1 Downgrade to 4.4.2
2 Root phone
3 Install recovery for locked bootloader
4 Flash rooted 4.4.4 zip in recovery
5 latest firmware and root remains
I am new to Sony devices (been a Samsung guy for years). I have had my Z2 less than a fortnight but already I'm itching to root it etc, problem is it seems a lot more complicated than Samsung devices. I was always switching between roms on my S4/note 2. I am on the latest firmware and would like to root it to be able to use xposed but I'm scared of messing it up and as the phone is under warranty don't want to end up with a paper weight.
Has anyone done a detailed tutorial for newbies like myself?
Thanks in advance
Scotty.

It's not really that hard and there are also of resources online that can guide you.
1 Downgrade to 4.4.2 is required as noone had found a vulnerability with 4.4.4.
2 Root phone
For step 1 and 2, Have a look at this http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-sony-xperia-z2-xda-developer-tv/
3 install recovery for lock bootloader
Have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785598
4 install a 4.4.4 zip through recovery. I recommend this one as its basically stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/stock-4-4-4-23-0-1-0-167-bug-free-t2929402

Hi Everyone,
Didn't see anyone post the stock firmware ODIN files for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Alpha SM-G850A. I want to get it before I try to root my phone.
Or how can I extract it's stock ROM? After that and test, I'll upload it post a link to all.
Thanks.
