Hi all,
I've been searching for the past 2 hours on how to unlock my T-mobile Vibrant. I didn't want to start a new thread but I'm getting pretty frustrated...
can someone help me with:
1. I keep reading in threads: "Back up your EFS folder" <--- i can't find it!!!
2. Will the "repair nv_data" help me unlock my phone? are there instructions on how to do this properly?
thank you!
Info:
Model: SGH t959 (t-mobile)
Firmware: 2.1 update 1
Baseband: T959UVJI6

thread you want
you need root explorer or astro file manager to see the efs folder
Thanks for your direction! I've hit another wall...
when I move onto step 3: where it uses the NV_repair. Jar i get an error message in french... any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Yep.. your nv_data.bin and the .jar file have to be moved into the folder in french
along with the nv_data.binvierge
There is an online tool that you just upload your nv_data.bin file to, built off of helroz' method,
http://www.communityhosting.net/sgsunlock/
I don't know your situation, but have you tried to just request an unlock from T-Mobile? I used the unlock tool in the summer but recently called them for a few unlocks and it got emailed to me next day.

Hi,
I have managed to lose my IMEI and empty my /efs folder. I was using the Gingerbread Beta 2 ROM provided by Whitehawkx on my Samsung Vibrant. Everything was great for me, I was loving it and was using it as daily driver. Until one day, my cell was in my pocket and I realized it was overheated. I removed it from my pocket and saw that it was frozen and had the double rainbow screen. I removed the battery to switch it off and restarted.
Since that moment, I lost all the files under my /efs folder and also lost my IMEI. As a result my phone does not recognize any SIM card. I can use all other functions like wifi, bluetooth, etc. but cannot use any phone functions like calling, sms, etc.
Please please please help me out to resolve this problem. I do not have backup of my /efs folder. I do have nandroid backups of my JFD, JI6 and KA6 ROMs. (if that helps in any way)
I have already tried going back to Stock JFD with clear efs checkbox checked using odin but no luck...
Please Help & Very Thanks in advance...
P.S. Let me know if you need any more details...
This is tricky, but it can be done, I am not sure how much your phone is jacked up. But here is a link explaining how to do this, read carefully a few times before you proceed:

Thanks oka1,
But before your reply I did something because of which I am screwed even more
While trying out everything, I flashed my Vibrant with the International Samsung Galaxy S ROM - 'I9000DDJF2'. I also used the CSC file that came with it.
This did not solve my IMEI problem but then now I can't go into Download mode or recovery mode as we do not have the home key that International Galaxy S has.
Please help me get in Download mode or Recovery mode so that I can get back to Vibrant ROM.
we do have a home button. use that to go to DL mode.
how come did that messed up your eds? was it told that you need to backup your efs folder?

Got lucky, managed to get into Download mode. Found this post 'http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728698', the key was - "If you still can't enter download mode, you may want to try holding down the volume key + the power button. Plugging in your USB cable may also aid your efforts to enter download mode."
But this does not solve my lost IMEI and /efs problem. I did not know about backing up the /efs folder :-(
I am trying my hardest to try and restore my IMEI...
just get a replacement. that's the easiest way I think.
is your phone unlocked?

Hey Im looking now through some old threads, might have a fix.
I did that too, but luckily, after that, i bricked.
Backing up /efs will avoid any problems like this?
Potential Fix
I attached a screenshot of the files that should be in your efs folder. When I unlocked my phone, it required deleting all of the nv files besides the log, which leaves -
The .android folder is empty
The .imei file contains your imei number (found under your battery - put it in without slashes)
The imei folder which contains bt.text with your bluetooth mac address and a code file with the word XEN
I would recommend ODIN back to stock, root, set up this file structure (leaving out the nv files), then download the sgs unlock tool, and run it. People have reported success using the unlock tool to rebuild nv_data.
If this fails try reading through this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879189&page=3
Thanks guys for helping out...
@iynfynity - My phone is unlocked. I can't get replacement since I am not in US. I bought it from ebay.com.
@pvspencer22 - I will try the way that you have mentioned. I thought since I am not in US, I can request someone from US to share their /efs folder contents. A nice guy from xda was ready to do that but then he was not comfortable :-(
Ya I wasn't to comfortable with it. It just doesn't seem safe for me to give someone else my IMEI. And plus I dont think it would work on your phone anyways, because the efs file wouldn't match your phone

I tried these ways, no luck :-( Seems that the only possible way to resolve this is if someone agrees to share the contents of /efs folder of a working spare vibrant phone. But then no one is ready to do this...
Wonder if it could be possible for YOU to give your information from your phone & battery to someone on here that could make edits to their files with your info and send it to you??

Not a bad idea

My original IMEI was 351801041232857.
My phone model is TMo Samsung Vibrant, I bought it from ebay.com.
Not sure what other details would be required as the only thing different is the IMEI, rest would be just as any other Vibrant phone.
Currently I am on stock JFD (downloaded from xda) and my /efs folder is completely empty.
Guys, please let me know if any other information is needed. I would be more than obliged to provide it. I am just trying out all possible ways to resolve the problem and I deeply appreciated each and every message coming my way... This is what makes xda so special...
As I have said, my handicap is that I am not in US, else I could have easily asked T-Mobile to solve this problem for me...

reply if you still need help. I got a solution as long as you have the backup efs folder.

I need a vounteer helper who can share his efs folder contents...
Please...
I had unlocked and updated to froyo on my Vibrant. After several months it simply stopped working on the telcel network (Mexico). I never was able to root under Froyo.
I later discovered that my IMEI was at a fake IMEI that is posted all over the net from others with the same issue.. I dont know if the provider cut off my phone immediately when the IMEI arbitrarily changed or the IMEI had been bad all along, and they finally started blocking this fake IMEI. Judging from the phone crash that occurred that day, however I think the phone lost its IMEI that same day it stopped working on Telcel
Fortunately I searched old files and my backups are worth gold because somewhere in the process I had saved /efs and /efs/imei in a folder called Galaxy_S_Unlock.
My question is , how do I restore the IMEI and does it matter that I am now on Froyo and the Back ups may be from Eclair?
Thanks I would like to get my Vibrant working again
I'm sure you can use that one.
Update ________
I recovered my vibrant in the following way, as other methods I found did not work after re rooting.
I did the full recovery found at androidspin. They wont let me post the link here
Then rooting was easy on Eclair 2.1, I used one click root method
Since the back up I had had both nv_data.bin and nvdata.bin.unlocked I used es file explorer and copied this nvdata.bin.unlocked from my NAS directly to the efs folder, at the same location as the original nv_data.bin in the phone. I renamed the original file nv_data.old and the newly copied file was renamed to nv_data.bin.
My phone came back as an unlocked Eclair 2.1 with original IMEI, and only because I had those files
compared to other methods that I saw about how to do this this was WAY easier, and since I had trouble with root access on terminal emulator and other programs crashing.
I still however can not download from the market, and was wondering if I need to replace one of these other files too.
Hello,
I have my Vibrant Eclair unlocked, do you recomend me updated it to Froyo with Samsung Kies? or if I upgrade to froyo will to locked the phone?
thanks

I am not able to recover my IMEI number as per your steps. Can you point me to exactly where did you find the procedure to do this?
hey, i got a virgin mobile s2 yesterday and i rooted and unlocked with
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13715727
and galaxy s unlock on the market.
im assuming it went well since i have the yellow triangle and my rogers sim now works.
i got root explorer and followed instructions on making "local.prop" in data with "ro.camera.sound.forced=0" but it hasnt been working.
is there any known problems with my type of combination
Virgin
XWKDD_insecure.tar
or any other help at all?
Im totally new to this and i dont want to mess anything up by using another rom or something because i need it before a flight tomorrow morning.
You could delete the following using root explorer:
/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click_short.ogg
/system/media/audio/ui/Shutter_01.ogg
That way you delete the audio file the camera uses. If you don't want to do it as a permanent solution, you could backup the files if you want to restore them.
hmm i already tried to rename those files in root explorer but i got a no permission error. but your post brought me back to it and i successfully renamed them after turning on "mount r/w".
Thanks! lol
Although it would have been cool to keep the sounds and only make it silent when it was in silent mode :/
I have a samsung s2 and I dont have any problemdownloading from Google store, with the imei etc etc but...Reading a post on this forum and having a Samsung s2 simlocked I have edited the nv_data.bin and,the first time I was able to unlock it but, after reflashing taking away the root and,"making something that I dont remembr what" the Samsung s2 was back sim locked.I tryied several time to unlock it again making the same thing but nothing to do,this is the "story"...
Now I'm thinking that maybe there is something wrong with the nv_data.bin ...I have the back filesin fs folder,I try to guess..if i delate the nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 and i renale the two .bak files I will get the original files?I nevar done any backup so I dont have any way to pic up the "clean" files but...Is that a valid way to resolve my "problem"?
Last question...When the files are renamed .bak dose they "work" or the are renamed for backup and "works" just the
nv_data.bin and the nv_data.bindb5..back?
Thank's to who will be able/want to help me :good: to other user just a ----
