Friends,
I have been having problems since I flashed XILA2 ROM. I was on XWKL1 earlier. In the first try of flashing XILA2, everything went smoothly and I was getting a good network signal of H+. But after rooting with CF root, I tried to do some mods with UOT Kitchen. The phone refused to boot after applying the UOT zip file in the Recovery mode. So I had to reflash the XILA2 Rom again via Odin.
Now the problem is that I am not getting any Network Signal after flashing the XILA2 ROM and the phone is asking me to "Insert a SIM card", even when the SIM card is already inserted in the phone.
So what should I do now to get my Network Signal back?
Did you flash a modem? Reflash the modem via Odin.

I flashed the Intratech file of XILA2 which includes modem, Multi CSC. You just need to flash that single Tar file of Intratech by putting it in the PDA. Have flashed dozens of Intratech ROMs before without this problem.
Now IMEI is showing as "Unknown", IMEI SV is Unknown, Service State is showing as Out of Service.
What is the problem?
Efs corruption.
Hope that you have a backup of your efs folder.

What exactly happened and what to do now?
Hey Seniors, Experts.....any solution?
Calling the Seniors & Experts on this forum.....My IMEI showing as Unknown. No Network. I'm told my EFS has been corrupted. So what's the solution now???
Do you have EFS backup?? as far as i read, there is no backup which you have mentioned........
one solution is to get your phone back to samsung service ...hopw its under warrenty...
not sure whether it works or not....but try flashing a orignal samsung firmware...

If you have no backup, you could try this tool, seems to have helped some people get there EFS's back without having a backup.

Thanks Veyka, but I am scared to use this tool as it gives warning that it might brick my phone. Wouldn't it be wiser to just take my phone to the Service Centre while it is still working and is on STOCK ROM XWKL1 as it is still under warranty?
Also will it help if I reflashed just the MODEM again? I have read on some forums that flashing Modem again worked for some people. Can somebody give me the link to download the Modem file for XWKL1

Flash any modem, go to the modem sticky in android development, extract and flash modem.bin, try that before you do anything with efs.

I have a modem_xwk1.rar file from which I have extracted modem_xwkl1.bin. So I can flash the modem_xwkl1.bin fil as it is via Odin or do I have to rename it to anything? If yes, then what should I rename the .bin file to?

Flashing a modem wont help, if you have never rooted or flash any custom roms, then just take it to samsung or call your provider or whoever you got it from and tell them you lost service.
As you have flashed roms and mods and i imagine you have root, you might as well try the tool, It cant break the phone anymore than its allrdy broken.
And if the tool doesn't work, just flash back to stock, reset the flash counter with a USB jig and get it repaired under warranty, don't tell them about flashing custom roms, tell them it just happened.

Cool, will use that repair tool as a last resort. It will be pretty easy for me to invoke warranty so why go thru unnecessary trouble. Right now I just want to flash the Modem file as a last try. I have a file named MODEM_XWKL1.RAR which contains the file MODEM_XWKL1.BIN now all I want to know is which of these file is to be renamed and renamed to what for flashing via Odin???

Just send it off for warranty then, as flashing the modem will not fix a corrupt EFS.
And to flash via odin, rename it to modem.bin, shove it inside a .tar file and flash it in the modem slot.

What do u mean by "shove it inside a .tar file"....do you mean I can just change the name of the file from modem.bin TO modem.tar OR I have to compress the modem.bin file using some compression tool?
"flash it in the modem slot" ....... I guess you mean flash it in the PHONE slot, coz there is no slot named Modem in Odin. Right?
Thank you for your patience.
Thanks all for trying to help, but I guess I'll have to invoke warranty
Thanks a lot for your help, everyone, I really appreciate.
I tried flashing the modem.bin file by renaming it to modem.tar and putting it in the Phone slot, but it failed in Odin. The top left box of ODIN turns RED and says Fail. So I guess I have no option now but to take the phone back to the company.

Can you try kTool?
K-tool does not work, which is why Prodigy got me to type a command line in the terminal which backed up my EFS folder manually. Now I have an EFS.IMG This is why i put up the THread Because I knew it was soon someone will be bound to stuff up there EFS.. Which is WHY WE ALL NEED TO BACK UP OUR EFS ASAP before we start modding
But as for recovery its hopeless? Can a box be used to restore the imei? Anyway i can write my imei using nvwriter after somehow solving the problem of not being able to put my phone into diagnostics mode?
Argh! I am going insane, this is looking like a one dear mistake!
I had the exact same problem. Tried MANY things, with no luck. If you got yours from Optus less than 30 days, they will give you a brand new replacement phone .
Try to install a stock rom like 4.0.4... that worked for me on a S1 with the same problem and fixed it!

I have the same issue although it happened to me when I flashed a rom to ROOT my device and I didn't back up the EFS, now it doesn't read the SIM/Network and my Baseband & IMEI are Unknown.
I have tried re-installing the stock firmware etc but still no success...
Anyone have any suggestions?? Or at least how I can update my device status back to normal a pose to 'Modified'.. This was I could maybe submit it through warranty repair.. I have tried to reset my binary count with triangle away (before unrooting) but no success as.. The only thing i've managed to be able to do is unroot my device..
Please help!
Thanks...:fingers-crossed:
if you dont mind about the reading , u can still use your phone flawlessly.. and try the trick "oh im not sure , oh i dont know" and get one replace or u will need jtag i guess.. or maybe ( not sure if it work ) get someone else backup efs and find a way to put your imei in and push it back to your device.. and then repeat same procedure with your original imei ... if u cant remember , take a look at your box.. well..i am just suggesting..not sure if it work...
to get rid of modified , go download sammy official release for your telco or country , flash it with odin but the binary counter remains... good luck to u..

I read last night that if you flash the original OTA over your phone it will re write your IMEI number and if Telstra's one is not out just use one from AT&T or Optus etc..
So you can make a back up of your EFS and go from there with re rooting and applying a new baked rom.
Either way if can work or it can not. i see no harm
Anyway here is the EFS taken' just now
you should never share your EFS folder with someone else. Due to the fact each imei is unique.

The only way you can fix it is by restoring a working efs backup or take it to service.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
It's not. That's the whole point. Someone else's (another phone's) EFS details won't fix your problem. You restore an EFS backup you made before you borked it, tho it doesn't sound like you have one.
So you basically have two options; service centre (as Boki said, obviously they'll charge you for the repair). Or if you contact Odia via PM if you're really lucky he might be able to recover it for you (when you message him, wait patiently for a reply. You might think this is urgent, he doesn't/he has a life).

Try using the GSII_Repair app. It fixes the SIM card issue and the efs issue.
If all fails.... as a last resort....I think just flash your phone with ORIGINAL SAMSUNG FIRMWARE with ODIN with FULL required files such as
1. .pit file
2. modem/phone file
3. firmware file
4. csc file
it may get everything to work or alternatively i believe samsung kies can help you recover you firmware if you ask it to upgrade firmware or do some diagnostics...!!!
Also im assuming you are using a samsung galaxy s II I9100
ONCE AGAIN
Back up all your data/ROM before you do anything. I will not be responsible for any damage/loss which may occur hard or soft with regards to the instructions I have posted to your phone in anyway. If you don't understand what im talking about its best you do not proceed with whatever I said.
Do not use pit file when it's not needed. Flashing wrong pit might brick your phone.

Hello,

I bricked my S3 two weeks ago while using swapper 2 and flashing some roms...
after a while the efs folder couldnt be mounted E: failed to mount efs (invalid argument)
and hanging in a bootloop..
My biggest fault was that I have not a backup of the EFS folder. Only
an complete Backup with CWM. But that couldnt helped me.
After trying a lot of Roms I got my phone with the I9300XXALE9_I9300OJVALE9_TMC and GT-I9300_mx_20120329 pit back to boot
normally. Android Version is 4.0.4
The Problem is that the EFS Folder is completly empty and I havent an
IMEI, so no mobile connections. But Wlan worked at home.
By the way: When i try to restore the cwm backup it will hang in a bootloop again.
Is there any way to restore the IMEI / EFS without an Backup?
I red that some persons could restore it with an other stock rom?
I'm not sure which Stock-Rom (4.1.2 probably but which exactly) I need for my Phone.
I bought it at May/13 in Germany (I'm from germany).

If you follow the restore to stock guides, you may be covered under warranty. Cost of repair is minimal.
You might want to check this method for not efs backed up people...

Hello again,
sorry i had no internet access the last days.
Everytime when i try to flash a 4.1.2 Rom I'm stucked in a bootloop again :/ I'm pretty sure that I've choosen the correct Firmware.
Do you know what the problem could be?
I've not given up trying to repair my phone
Maybe my issue could be solved when I flash back to FW which was installed before.
The latest firmware is the
PDA: I9300XXEMG4
CSC: I9300DBTEMG3
MODEM: I9300XXEMG4
(Yes i know about the new efs format)
but this isn't working too.
Do you know why why I'm not getting at least a default IMEI? My Imei is always null/null
I've read about NV-items_reader_writer and qpst. Could they help me?

I would recommend sending the device for repair.
I have a Samsung SII SHW-M250S and got it converted to I9100 through flashing a stock I9100 ICS ROM with .pit for the I9100. It converted properly and is working great.
My problem is when I flashed a custom ROM, I lost my IMEI and the baseband is unknown. The thing is I don't have back-up of my /efs folder or any CWM back-up before my problem occurred. I've tried mostly everything and still looking for almost a week now. Tried EFS Pro, restore and back-up of EFS through SGSII_repair, kTool, etc, flashing a modem, returned to stock JB of SHW-M250s, among others. There is an error showing in recovery mode, "E:/Unable to mount '/efs'"

Is the 'efs' folder ther in the root of ur current ROM?
Try reverting back to the stock ROM, by extracting the files from the stock rom u got from sammobile.
(u need to hav everythin mentioned in ODIN. ie PIT, phone, pda etc. This u get by extractin the stock rom using cygwin n splitfus)
once all files are in order, select them and also select 'repartition' option in odin and flash..
Ur phone wil reboot and hopefully u wil hav ur efs folder with imei back..

Yes, it does. I did do that, problem is, the problem persists. Tried both copying /efs folder from both stock JB of SHW-M250S and I9100 but no progress. At least now I don't get the mount error on /efs.
Well, I hope there are other guides as I'm stumped at the moment. Using it though as a media device for now.

U copied efs folder from where??
The efs folder has phone IMEI and Baseband numbers.. Its unique for each phone... (copying from ROMs is pointless)
Hope u didn delete the folder from the phone while trying out stuff with it.
If that folder is by any mistake, deleted, ur phone wil loose its imei number forever
and u wil have no choice but to give it to Samsung Care. ( or try using samsung's SRS tool (u find tutorials on youtube for this))
If u didn delete the folder from ur phone, try flashing the stock rom with the correct PIT file with 'repartiton' ticked.
(Use PIT with caution.)
Choose PIT to ur phone from here (Stock 2gb PIT for i9100. I dunno for SHW-M250S though) n follow the steps.
(search the forum for ur model specific PIT files to use it wit its specific ROM. SHW-M250S ROM with its PIT only)
---<>---
Since u have converted ur phone to i9100, u should be able to use i9100 PIT with i9100 Stock ROM to flash.
( i hav provided i9100 PIT file link above. Use it with i9100 Stock ROM only )
If this works, awesome..

U copied efs folder from where??
The efs folder has phone IMEI and Baseband numbers.. Its unique for each phone... (copying from ROMs is pointless)

The thing is, I did not delete the /efs folder but I think it is corrupted, copied it to my computer and copied a stock /efs from M250S, and tried with I9100 /efs folder too. I did reflash to stock with their corresponding .pit files but IMEI is still null/null.
I guess I'll just give up since it is too costly to have it for repairs here.

I had managed to repair a messed up IMEI through samsung's SRS tool.. Give it a shot..
U should be back in stock ICS for this. and use the SRS' test login itself. it sometimes work.
U can find tutorials on you-tube...
Hope it helps...

I think you need a UART cable or a box for that, and investing money is out of the question mate. Could you give me a link for the actual 'tool' you're referring to? Might be a different software.
Hoping at least I could get the 00000... IMEI just to use this phone.

Getting an error on Windows 8.1
I don't think that it matters if your imei is null, that program should be able to restore it.
Do you have an older PC to try it on?
I don't know about the i9100, I've not had mine long, but on the i9000 you could restore the imei simply by flashing a stock gingerbread firmware with Odin.. Maybe worth a try also.

Gonn try it on Win 7, I am hoping it works. If not, might be a hardware problem as I've read from some threads.

Try running with compatibility mode. (right click on exe -> props -> compatibility -> change to earlier windows)
I have it running on my 8.1..
JB has a bug that dont allow this to work.. So be on ICS Stock + rooted to use this app.
(It might say 'not enuf credit', but keep trying. Suddenly it wil work)
I've tried multiple SRS download, but it always says internal files are corrupted, please reinstall program, well something like that.

Can't install it on both Win 7 and 8 with compatibility and admin. It says that internal files are corrupt, try to reinstall the program. I've done with with other SRS setup .exe but still the same error.

I gave it a try several times since it is always closing by itself when the process is starting at 'Starting ADB server' or something like that. Though I tried the four methods.

M having no probs whatsoever in installing or running it..
Try it on different machines.. Might just work somewhere..
In case it does, u have to be on Stock rooted ICS..
Else u cant restore.

Only tried it on Win 8 with enabled compatability until Win XP SP3. Yeah, used stock ICS on SHW-M250S and rooted it, tried several times until all the methods ran completely, no change after reboot.
Then I converted it to stock ICS I9100 and rooted it also. Now the SRS won't even complete a method, just after starting, it auto-closes. Will try it on Win 7 when I get the chance.

Did u do it as per the tutorial???
Sure.. Did u enter ur SN number and IMEI in the Advanced option?? This has to be done..
Select the right phone from the option.
i9100 is Stock ICS of i9100 or SHW-M250S if it is its stock ICS ..
It should set it right...
All the best!
