A friend of mine went aboard and had his SGS4(I9505) unlocked. He came back a few days ago and yesterday he came and the phone was not able to register on the network. His IMEI was 'Unknown', so apperantly I wm assuming that the flashing went bad.
Last night i tried:
- Flashed CM 11 official
- Flashed Google Edition 4.4
- Flashed Stock 4.3(H3G)
But nothing worked. I was getting some notifications from KNOX and remember reading that it sometimes it messes with flashing ROMs.
So basically my question is ehat can I do to get the IMEI back. I do not have an EFS backup (nor any backup in that matter). I am dont know what info should I provide to ease you guys in resolving this issue, but will do on demand(and eventuwlly with little info on how to get it ).
Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

Hmm... Actually it is, I think.. I seted it to ON, but after that I re-flashed stock. (Shouldn't it change the value back?).

I really don't know...my efs folder empty and i cant get an answer to fix it...if you still have the folder FactoryApp in efs you should be able to edit it back to on to fix factory mode issue...but without imei being right you wont have service...i flashed stock and got mine back and all my stuff works just can't exit factory mode...

After i attempted to restore efs_backups made by dorimanx kernel i was shown that my phone still didn't get any signal at all
i mean the EFS restore option didn't work i tried repair/restore/format any option EFS Pro can possibly give me and still no luck.
and when it did brick i didn't flash anything i only used the phone normally.
however i noticed that my phone always resets every efs to latest even if i restore/format it is being changed, as my files always say 10th NOV/12th which it shouldn't be as i restored the IMEI even tried to do so manually, what could possibly be the problem?
Yet i see i restored my serial number (before it was only 000000)
but i still have that FAKE IMEI which still doesn't want to be gone after i tried to restore manually/EFS PRO
any ideas?

Sorry i don't know what i exactly did but i knew i toyed around with efs pro, repairing restoring etc.
after one day i tested my sim it just worked, but it didn't the same evening as i toyed around
Hi guys, hopefully you can help me here as I'm at my wits end. I've tried everything I can think off and can't fix this blasted phone.
To be honest I have no idea how all of a sudden I lost my nv_data.bin and IMEI as first my phone wouldn't boot because of an error with the /efs folder.
After numerous searches online I managed to finally get it working by using odin and flashing CM9 for the Galaxy S2, I tried others and none of them worked. From here I used tools like GSII Repair and Ktool and was able to create a nv_data.bin but IMEI still gone but at least I'm back to having a baseband.
My issue is now that I can't restore my IMEI number any backups or nv_data.bin or.baks where gone, I tried all the tricks online to restore and nothing.
I have the generic IMEI "004999010640000" and of course can't connect to mobile network.
Is there anyway that I can manually add in the IMEI number to fix this issue??
Thanks in advance.

They may have better tools than we do.
You could try flashing the ROM the device came with.
I too have this issue with a friend's phone (as some dumb ass tech guy flashed a branded firmware without backing up EFS) , so I have to flash any ROM I can get my hands on without the certainty that it would actually work.
Some guys did report that it worked.

you need special hardware to recreate the efs folder and rewrite the imei.. changing the imei is illegal on most countries so its obvious that it wont be easy to change... the service center has the tools to recreate the efs folder... flashing software will not fix the corrupted efs and would probably make it even worse...
our methods for flashing:
computer ----> phone
specialists and service center:
computer ----> "special hardware" ----> phone
you can do a search on the internet on what "special hardware" they use but i doubt that that would be for sale in a country where changing imei is illegal
software alone cannot recreate the efs folder nor write a new imei.. all you can do without the hardware is try to recover your corrupted efs if still possible.. if it comes to the point that it needs to be recreated or rewritten then it would be impossible without the said hardware

so this is just backin up the 2 efs partitions, modemst1 and modemst2? but in app form instead of my script?
the efs backup function has also been added to TWRP.
this could be useful until TWRP is working for the D802 international variant.

you should probably create a new thread and get help for this. Like the link in the OP said, efs folder are unique to each device because it also contain imei/esn number. Using someone else back up wont help you with your phone. maybe theres a different fix.

We could if we had something that would allow these files to be converted to a format that is readable by a hex editor, and then convert them back. I have been trying to find something like this for a while but I can't find anything. If anyone knows and would be willing to share, I am sure a great many of us would appreciate it!
Tks @hoangnova :good:
This is my last ditch effort. Small back story: I somehow wiped EVERYTHING on my G2. EFS partition, ESN, data, SIM info., everything with dialer codes. All of my network information reads "unknown". I tried many methods from here on the forums to get this data back and it turns out I have lost my EFS partition- DNA for the network? I sent it to LG to get it fixed, having done a hard reset and leaving no trace of root. They sent it back without even asking and did no repairs. The note said "board bent". WTF?? How does the user bend the main board, especially when I never opened it? They voided my warranty and ripped off my IMEI/MEID sticker from the back of the phone.
Anyways, I am here with a brick. No network still. Here is what I have done:
1) .tot method to ZVC. Several more times... once to ZV7 where I lost touch capability. Luckily saved my arse with a micro->usb cable and a mouse.
2) attempted to root with ioroot25. Failed because the phone WILL NOT find recovery mode. adb, voldown+pwr then again from power off, and apps are unable to force the phone into recovery mode. I assume it is possible that my recovery mode is deleted?
3) Would have tried all of these "rewrite your efs/imei/etc" things but I can't do any without root. Can't root without recovery, can I?
4) Spent the last two weeks scouring the internet for a fix and going back to my Epic 4G temporarily.
Please help me, has anyone seen this before? Can anyone help me fix it? I am to the point where I would pay to have it fixed. Any experts out there? XDA has yet to let me down... I just need to know if I can fix it or if it is a brick so I can go searching for an old Sprint GS3.
Thanks all,
baublitz

One question,
I can not really back up the IMEI and EFS by solid explorer or TWRP?
I'm a newbie!
For all lg devices? or only G2?
after flashing d800 with tot i lost the imei of the phone
how to repair it?
Curious if anyone has tried this on the Sprint version with/without success (it backs up your EFS to your internal storage). I'd be careful if you want to try it though, my Note is bricked and I don't know if that caused it (it looked like it was successful) or when I was enabling/disabling KNOX notifications for an app I released. Granted, it could have been a coincidence and unrelated to both, but I doubt it.
I was unable to use Odin to restore the phone. I can get into Download mode, but I've tried numerous combination of using Garwynn's .pit file, the official Samsung stock tar, formatting data/cache in stock recovery, and enabling Nand Erase All option in Odin. The phone just comes up and says "Process system is not responding", reboots, and does the same thing over and over. Current binary shows Samsung Official, system status says custom. If anyone has any ideas on that, I'd love to hear it
But I'm really curious if anyone tried adb reboot nvflash this before on the Sprint version.

Thanks for the link, but it didn't work. On the Sprint version, efs is mmcblk0p11 (12 is modem1) but no go. Seems like the issue was directly related to backing up the efs, I guess KNOX thinks that someone might be trying to pull some info from the phone that it wants to keep secure? Very silly that it would let you run that command without any warning. I ran that the other day on a friends GS3 and that's how I found out about it.

Thanks man, I will go get the phone exchanged at Best Buy tomorrow. I'm home for the weekend and they wouldn't exchange it last night at the store here (used to work there) cause I didn't have the box. Apparently, they need that to get credit for phone returns now or they get hit with the full cost of the phone. I was kinda ticked off about that, but I do still have the box back up at school, so I'll get it replaced tomorrow. The thing that really ticks me off is what if I didn't have the box? You think you can deny a return within 14 days if I don't have the box? I would have fought it at that point, but I figure why cause an issue if I can just handle it tomorrow.

So, to be clear, you suspect issuing that command, caused the problem? If so, there shouldn't be an issue backing up EFS, via other means (like TWRP recovery). Does that sound reasonable, or am I way off?
By the way, thanks for all you do for the community.

EXACT SAME THING happened to me. I was able to return it though bc my buddy works for an official retailer. Im just going to flash ONE custom ROM and deal w it UNTIL the whole SE-Linux issue is figured out. Restoring won't cause the issue I had, if anything, you'll get FCs and knox warnings that can either be fixed with my TB Restore Fixer app or using a kernel that is SELinux permissive.

How about a simple reset from the settings menu? But I am pretty sure, if you somehow deleted the IMEI imformation, your chances are not the best. You'd have to find a way, to get write thatbinfo back. What you could do is ask someone else to backup that partition for you and change the values according to your phone ( IMEI, serial number,...) Then flash this partition info back. Good luck!

i think you can install CM recovery (TWRP) then you can process the backup of your old rom from the recovery.
just enter in recovery mode then you'll find "restore" choose all the files ( i think there will be like this: System, Cashe, Efs, Boot...) then hit Restore botton, and wait for it to boot up hope this helps you bro

Try to get the efs partition holding the information from someone else, change it to your IMEI, serial,... And flash that partition to your phone and you should be good. I guess you'd have to use a hex editor to get that done. I am not rooted, so I can't back it up for you.
