[Q] Verizon GS4 Stuck in Odin Mode - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I rooted my Verizon GS4 using the saferoot method and was successful. When I tried to install TWRP Recovery using GooManager, it rebooted to a screen with the Android logo that said it could not reboot normally. Is there any way to fix this?

Every day someone creates a thread like this.
Use Odin to restore to whatever stock build you were on, then start your research by reading this thread.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2606501
Search the forums. All of the questions you're going to ask have already been answered.

Yes it's fixable. First you must read every stickied thread possible, then find where the search button is. This is posted almost daily so it's out there. You can't flash a custom recovery on me7 or higher, safestrap is the only option. To get back your stock recovery you'll have to flash one of the stock images via Odin . until your recovery is back You can power your phone off in the meantime use the buttons to boot into download mode, cancel it and your phone will boot normally.
READ AND SEARCH BEFORE YOU DESTROY A 600$ device. Not trying to be rude but 5 mins of reading would of saved you a couple hours of troubleshooting/fixing.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

Thank you! This isn't my first time rooting my Droid but it is the first time I've encountered a problem, so I'm glad I'll be able to get some help with it.
So none of the things at GalaxyS4Root would have worked? (I'd post the link but the forums won't let me)

You need to find what build you're on and then find out what will or won't work.

Help Please! Phone won't turn on

First off, my apologies if this is in the wrong forum. Mods, you may move this thread if need be. I was just shown this website about two weeks ago by a friend and have only been a lurker since. So I apologize if my first post is one needing assistance.
First off, I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to doing all this reboot, recovery, root, etc. But I can usually figure stuff out. I have researched how to do all this stuff over the last to weeks learning how to do all this. Let it be known that I was already rooted with siyah 3.4.2? kernel with superuser, CWM, and had ROM Manager downloaded. Last night I had finally decided to try and download a custom rom (AOKP), and I went through ROM Manager to try and reboot into recovery mode..the phone went dead. I have not been able to turn the phone on since last night. I have tried taking the battery out, trying to hold down volume buttons/power button to get into download mode, etc..But nothing is happening. When I power on, I can see the screen where it says "Samsung Galaxy SII" w/ the triangle, but then the screen goes black and nothing. In a dark room, you can see that the screen looks like it's trying to fire by flickering, but again...nothing. Sorry if this has been alot of reading, but I just want to be as thorough as I can. If anybody can tell me what went wrong, and how it might be fixed, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Remove the battery and replace it. hold the up/down volume and power button. The screen should light up. Continue to hold them until the phone goes into recovery mode. The phone should turn on and off a couple times before it enters recovery. Then wipe the data and caches. Hopefully at the point the phone will work. If it wont work you could always try to buy a download jig. They are only a couple dollars and can easily be found with a search.

That usually cause more trouble than it's worth. Espeically for a noob. I had been in that situation back when I first start doing it. First thing I used was CWM and I had the same/similar problem.
That is why everyone here always mentioned to not use CWM.

Not trying to be that way, just from my past experience with CWM. If you think I was being rude "talk out of my ass like that". Then I am sorry to bother for responding... Thank you for letting me know (no pun intended).
@BigCohiba,
You need to get into download mode. You should be able to do that without using a jig. With the phone off, but with the battery still in the phone, hold down vol- and vol+ (but not power) while you plug in the usb cable.
The following instructions given by fakhri should also work:

After that, flashing siyah kernel alone may be enough to allow the phone to boot, but you may have trouble finding a Siyah in Odin flashable tar format.
...or, flash straight stock UCKH7, or flash stock plus root UCKH7. You can find download links for those in one or the other of the guides linked in my signature.
Please let us know your success or problems as you proceed.

Stuck on Downloading mode after TWRP install

Hi all,
Used the ME7 root method on my S4, everything was working well with root apps like Root Explorer, etc. Installed TWRP from GooManager, told it to reboot to recovery so I could do a nandroid backup, and it rebooted to the Downloading screen with "Could not do normal boot." and "Odin mode". I can't seem to get it out of this mode. It's been a year and a half since I did anything with Android devices so I'm pretty wet behind the ears again, any help is appreciated (I needed a phone that was so dumb and locked down that I had no option to play around with it during my masters degree, so I had an iPhone during that).
Edit: Just realized my sig is from before, so pay no attention to the device. Don't have that one anymore.
Nevermind, of course I find the answer after posting here. Using the no-wipe recovery with the ME7 image. Lucky me I didn't see anything stating that ME7 can't install a custom recovery until now.

Failed to install TWRP...trying to fix aftermath

I have searched around, and have tried to find a solution, but I cannot seem to figure out a way to fix this issue.
Rooted the phone, then tried to install TWRP via goo manager, with the intention of perhaps putting KitKat on the phone, but the custom recovery installation seemed to fail, and I was able to get the phone to boot back up by;
I ended up booting into download mode (volume down + home +power) and then I got prompted for did I really want to do that, I responded no and the phone booted up.
I found that helpful post here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ck-after-installing-twrp-via-goo-manager.html
So now I am using the phone, and rebooting the phone works fine. But an OTA update is out, and phone says time to install, and I attempted to do so, but end up back at the same screen before, and have to boot into download mode again to get the phone to start back up.
I am not sure of what happened to the phone to cause this, but something obviously did. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction for at the bare minimum allowing me to install updates on the phone in the future.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How would I determine if I am a mdk firmware or not?
If I could install "safestrap" recovery, would that enable me to install the OTA updates? or at least manually install them via the recovery?
Just trying to undo whatever i botched...which i am still sort of unclear on...
I appreciate the help, I just am not sure what the next step is...can you point me in the right direction? Can you postulate what might have occurred when my failed install of TWRP happened, and keeping in mind the method of how i got the phone to start back up again, then deduce what to do to make it right?
My apologies and sincerest appreciation.

Fair enough. I was just hoping that from what I posted, someone would be like...oh you just need to do this, to revert back.
I can understand your stance on wanting to make newcomers sieve and sift through the info in the sea that is XDA for their one nugget, but sometimes asking a simple question, and receiving a simple answer, enriches the Internet's pool of cached available spot on search queries, and makes it easier for others who have botched a process to rectify.
I'll start with the thread you recommend, and see if I can't get there solo.
Thank you.

[Q] Google Edition/Recovery Installation Issues

First off, thanks so much to anyone who helps me out here, Ive been trying to install the ROM below on my phone for many, MANY hours.
[ROM]KOT49H【4.4.3】AOSP Official Google Edition 【Verizon!】06-13-2014
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2643031
I have:
SCH-I545
4.4.2
VRUFNC5
I managed to get it rooted but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the phone into a non stock recovery. every time I try, it goes into the stock recovery, even if I choose reboot recovery from rom manager. I tried flashing the rom from the stock recovery but that did not work. If someone could please point me in the right direction for a recovery program (loki) that will work with my phone I would really appreciate it.
Im hoping the problem isn't with the root but I havn't had any other issues. I downloaded:
UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r4
Im sorry if this is noob stuff but I used to do it all the time with my old DX and now I can barely get it rooted! (took hours) proper recovery is the next step toward a GPE ROM I hope. Thanks, a bunch, nap time

First off - did you read any of the stickies about our phone? Unless you are on the MDK bootloader, you cannot install a custom recovery nor can you install this rom. You must use Safestrap to load any custom TW rom - no AOSP or CM based roms at this time.

It is possible to install this rom, you just have to use Safestrap.
This is how to install:
Note: SafeStrap doesn't work with encryption turned on (disabled by default). If you don't know if you don't have encryption on/your phone isn't a business phone (in which case you shouldn't be doing this!!!) then you most likely don't have encryption on!!
6. Use this app to change your SELinux mode to "Permissive" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrbimc.selinux, this is required to use SafeStrap
7. Install SafeStrap 3.72 APK from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2448925, NOT 3.71 FROM THE VERIZON THREAD!!! Then click install in the SafeStrap App
8. Install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu and update your binaries
Then to enter safestrap while rebooting hit menu key, from there you can flash your rom.

thank you for that, which is why I have not messed with safestrap..its one of the first things in the post. so I guess that brings me back to where I started. Do I need to use the down grade method? If I do will it even work? and can somebody please point me in the direction of a proper (loki) recovery that I can flash and will work with my hardware. Thanks
EDIT -
believe me when I say I wouldn't be asking if I hadn't checked hundreds of threads already.
in case it helps, the end goal here is to get the GPE ROM on my phone. I'm rooted with towel. Ive gone in so many circles at this point I need someone who actually has done it or knows what they are talking about. Thanks!!!

If I downgrade to MDK firmware (I believe you can with surges method??), then I will be able to do this, correct? (without dealing with safestrap) by "this" I mean of course, finding a different recovery and flashing the GPE ROM.
If you read the top you would know that I spent MANY hours, reading MANY different threads and sites, that is why I am in the help section now. I'm not exaggerating when I say I spent from 11PM last night until 6:30 this morning with only a few breaks. I've flashed and re-flashed a million different files trying to get the results I wanted (bricked several times) and nothing worked, so this is my last resort

Understood. The learning curve has been very steep, as the last time I did this stuff there was only one version of each phone, sbf's were still around (don't know if they are or not anymore but it's not what I have to use to unbrick now) etc. Thanks so much for the replies and ill keep my eyes open for solutions as they are developed. I WILL have google play edition on my phone someday, and I thank all the dev's ahead of time for their hard work!

[Q] Questions on Rooting GS4

Hey guys, I've recently come across a VZW GS4 and I'm stuck on rooting. I know nothing about Samsung phones so this is pretty new to me. I tried towelroot and it was not sucessfull even after entering the different codes. The picture below is of the "About phone" section in settings. If you could just point me in the direction of a thread that would help me or let me know what do you, I'd really appreciate it.

So I flashed the first thing, as per your recommended post and wifi will not enable afterwards. I open towelroot v3 and it asks to be connected to the internet. So now I'm stuck there. Any advice?
YOu need to flash modules or Goglies wifi fix
Ahhhhh, I see how that could help. Thank you very much.

How do I flash in ODIN? Just the same place as the NC5, under AP?
EDIT: Okay so not in ODIN. Like I said, I know nothing about Samsung devices. Seeing as how it is a .zip file I assume I need to flash it in a recovery on the phone. I jumped to conclusions with the wifi fix so I am now going to actually look up the proper way to apply it.

If you haven't found it, you flash the fixes in Safestrap recovery

Is safestrap just the stock recovery or is it a custom like TWRP or CWM? And another thing, whenever flash an old firmware so I can root, it doesn't seem to actually change. I'm still at NK4 every time I change it. You know what I'm doing wrong? I've looked into a few different posts nothing is working. I've tried towelroot and Kingo.
And I suppose I should actually address your reply instead of just going on a tangent, I did and it put the phone in a bootloop and I have yet to address that. I just reflashed NK1 deal with it for the moment.

That is the thread I've been looking at most actually. But I just can't catch a break. Every time I try to download the files I want, my G3 fails instantly and my friends Wi-Fi just won't download at all. I think I now know an even better reason to why I've never bothered getting a Samsung haha.
