Hello,
I've been trying to root a Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo GT-S5310 and I followed the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433263
I guess the same instructions have been re-written here:
http://honai-android.blogspot.jp/2014/02/how-to-root-galaxy-pocket-neo-s5310-on.html
And someone also made a youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slnvvp4gyQQ
I follow the guide and everything seems to work fine. However when I get to the last step, I get the message
Code:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
I guess Thailandian in the first thread that I linked to experienced the same problems, however he didn't post whether he got around the problem. It seems to me that I get the Samsung recovery instead of CWM, even though during running ODIN I get properly everything that the guide describes.
The only thing that I can think of is that when I first started my phone, I did some Samsung update, so now my splashscreen looks a bit different than the splashscreen in the youtube video above. So I'm wondering whether the provided files are not valid any more, even though my android version is still 4.1.2.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Thanks a lot!
I'm guessing I posted in the wrong forum. Could someone move it to "Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking ". Thanks.
Turn off the option to auto reboot the device on Odin and, after you flash the new recovery, reboot straight to the new recovery and flash through it.
Your device rewrites the recovery with the original one on every boot, but you can always use a custom recovery with Odin like that.

I have an Samsung Galaxy II i9100.
It looks like I need to install clockworkmod to install any custom rom.
The device should be rooted already, at least SuperOneClick.exe tells me that it is.
Then I installed Rom Manager 4.3.2.4.
Now my problem starts: I can't install ClockworkMod.
After choosing my device type from the options i9000/i9000(MTD)/S2 (it is S2) I get the following error message (translated from german): An error occured when downloading the recovery-system.
1) How to fix that?
2) Could I install CWM manually? I already downloaded
Thanks for helpful advice.
PS
That's why I prefer the iPhone.
Jailbreaking and customizing my iPhone never forced we to waste multiple hours in vain.
Keep scrolling down in the "flash clockwork" menu.. you'll find galaxy s2 further down...
You mean the menu that appears after clicking on "install clockworkmod recovery"?
I already found my device type in that menu, I get the error message after clicking on it.

You said you choose "After choosing my device type from the options i9000/i9000(MTD)/S2"
Keep scrolling down down down until you find the one that says "Samsung Galaxy s2" and see if that one works
Sorry for that misunderstanding, I tried to explain what excatly I am seeing and I abbreviated the device names.
I can choose from
Galaxy S i9000
GalaxyS i9000 (MTD)
Samsung Galaxy S2
If I choose the third option (Samsung Galaxy S2), then I receive the error message.
Aha!
i would recommend rooting your phone as described in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
As an added bonus it includes CWM, you can find Odin and the relevant file you need to flash with odin in the post.. Just make sure you pick the right version that matches your phone and it should take you about a minute.
you know what... Im getting the same message when i tried to do it now on my phone.. so i dont think its your fault at all or your phones!
Must be some temp issue with rom manager, but you can still do it the way i said in the post above.
It's currently installing my rom of choice after you pointed me in the right direction to install CWM. I had seen that thread
Thank you.
Oh no, wait, bootloop.
fail again
make sure you wipe data/cache and all that before you install a custom rom.
I also cant download clockworkmod recovery from rom manager premium on my GS2. Just saying it fails both on Wifi and 3G.
I have some issu too
Most effective ways of installing CWM is:
1. Flashing codeworx' kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693
2. Flashing chainfire's kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Both of these options work. Flashing CMW from Rom Manager however, still doesn't work on SGS2.
Some Questions
Hello All,
I'm newbie here, I've tried to found an answer to my question but didint found and this topic seems to fit ot my question.
i have an i9100 that I have rooted and put a Stock Rom to remove the branded rom i had from my GSM Provider.
I want now to install GWM and be able to install some custom roms, but before doing something stupid. I would like to know if i can proceed with the normal process of installation using Odin even my phone has already been rooted or do i have to do another step before?
Can I use the process described on this topic?

Hello Everyone,
Firstly, I need to say that as a previous owner of an original droid, I was able to root it with no problems on the first go around. However, as a new owner of a Samsung Galaxy SII I am finding root a real challenge.
I have no problems getting into download mode and so on....I have successfully placed the clockworks rom onto the phone with again no problems and I have all the drivers working properly. I guess this is where I am obviously an idiot....because I start the Super One Click and it gets to Step 6 and then stops. I unplug the USB....click the debugg off and then back on and reconnect my USB like directed by many posters. However, in my case it will not continue on and finish the install.....
I reboot and do get the small triangle on boot up ( not that I care too much about that really...do have a jig on order however) but I simply can't seem to get it to root.
Again I have followed all the posts and guides for unplugging, unchecking and rechecking the debugging and then plug back in the USB and still nothing.
Phone works fine....everything works...love the phone...just seems puzzling to me. I have Odin 1.82, I have SuperOneClick 2.1.1 and like I said installed the .tar fine to the phone with no worries....just cant get it to root.
Any advice?
i used (this) with no issues.
Does your phone currently have the new KJ1 update? I've read that this new update will not root with the usual methods.. (I could also be wrong...)

Try this rooter "su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip".
Here is the link for it: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LBTUWW1J
After downloading copy the zipfile to your sdcard and flash it in
CWM recovery just like you would flash a rom using the option
"Install zip from sdcard" in CWM.
When its done reboot the phone and it should be rooted.

Hi all -
Model SAMSUNG-SGH-1337
Baseband: 1337UCUAMF3
Build: JDQ39.1337UCUAMF3
First off, I have an Samsung Galaxy S4 ATT SGH-1337. I have lurked around these forums and have come to understand the rooting / recovery flash processes. Getting root on the phone is no problem using the following method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387577
Where my issue lies is within the recovery mode. I have tried GooManager / RomManager / CASUAL /ODIN and nothing I try seems to work. It short when I use CWM or GooManager or CASUAL everything works correctly and I receive no errors. When I first tried this i used GooManager and when it went to reboot into recovery mode It said COULD NOT DO NORMAL BOOT and put me in download mode - in short my stock recovery mode is gone/corrupted.
No matter what I try via (STOCK FW load for example) ODIN i always get a FAIL and can not get it to work. It should be noted that I have the correct USB driver installed also official USB cable and I've tried many versions of ODIN with the same result. It looks like it always fails on write. When I re-try the other methods to install a custom recovery they seem to work but I end up with the same COULD NOT DO NORMAL BOOT.
I thought I was stuck in this download mode until I rebooted the phone manually put in download mode and smashed VOL-DOWN. When I did this the phone booted up.
The strange part is that I have root, and can get into the OS, but all the recovery methods seem to fail. I have even tried the DD method via TWRP page with no luck.
I do not understand why this is the case, or why when I first did this with Goomanager it hosed my recovery mode. I am literally out of ideas, and have tired everything I can think of to get a recovery mode installed.
It should be noted that all the "gotya's" are enabled such as USB Debugging, and version verification. I do notice that when download mode appears, and i see COULD NOT DO NORMAL BOOT it does say "WRITE PROTECTION ENABLED". From my Googleing it would appear this is ok.
I have also made sure I was using the LOKI exploit; but it simply seems that my bootloader is locked no matter what I try.
If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

One thing I could think of trying is taking a look at this video here on how to install CWM Recovery on the ATT Galaxy S4. As you watch the video make sure you've done everything exactly as he has done in the video, this way you can determine if you have overlooked or missed any steps.
Thanks for the video link. However it looks like this won't work due to the MF3 firmware.
Q6: I have a AT&T S 4 (OTA MF3) and I have rooted my device can I install a custom rom or a custom recovery?
The answer is "NO" you can not install a custom recovery or a rom at this moment.

I found the above in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2413746&nocache=1
My phone came with MF3; I would assume this is the issue.
=(
To start off with, I'm just wondering, do you ALWAYS have to enter a CAPTCHA when posting to this forum. That will drive me nuts!
Anyhow, I am looking to install Cyanogenmod on my Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 (GT-I9205) and I haven't been in the business of modding an Android phone in a LONG long while. The videos on YouTube are extremely lackluster in walking you step-by-step if you haven't been in it for a while. I don't just want to install the ROM and call it a day, I want to understand what the process is first, create a full image of my phone first in case anything goes wrong and AFTER that point I want to install a Cyanogenmod.
So, from what little bits and pieces I have gleaned from the Internets, I have come across three main themes when modding.
1. Root
2. ClockworkMod
3. Cyanogenmod
I don't want to brick my phone so I'd like some help in getting started with this.
Please move this thread if it's not in the right spot.
Question 1: As far as rooting your phone, is the process similar on the Android platform as a whole or is there specific steps for each "line" of phones. It feels like rooting is pretty cut-and-dry. I have rooted before, I just don't remember exactly what the most efficient way of doing it was.
Question 2: It seems like installing ClockworkMod requires that you select an option that's specifically for your phone (i.e. picking an option that applies to a differing phone will brick your phone). Am I correct in this assumption.
Question 3: To my understanding from what I've seen, it is recommended that you white your phone and clear the cache (a very good suggestion) when installing a new ROM. Should this be done after you install ClockworkMod? At what point should this be done and what is the correct steps to do this?
I'm a developer & programmer by nature, but this Android stuff really has me feeling unfamiliar so I need everyones help to understand how this beast ticks.

Hi..check this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2566642 as it has all you need to get the CM11 rom on your device which works on your version..all what you need is in Silesh.Nair signature (links) at the bottom of his posts, and just download odin 3.07 as you will need one of the recoveries CWM or TWRP with kitkat support to install the CM11 rom, but they are available in Silesh.Nair signature in his posts.

Did you install the latest recovery ( twrp/cwm )? It will only work with the recoveries available in my signature. First flash the recovery using Odin, then flash the ROM zip using recovery.

Yes I used the files in your signature and installed TWRP as follows
- Opened ODIN
- Put Phone into Stock Recovery
- Plugged into comptuer
- Loaded TWRP tar file under PDA in ODIN
- Clicked Start
No errors popped up
To Flash Rom
- Restarted phone and held Volume Up button to load TWRP
- Full Backup before Flashing
- Touched Install
- Selected zip file downloaded from your status
It starts updating and has the following on the screen
"Updating partition details...
Running boot script...
Finished running boot scrip.
Installing '/external_sd/cm-11-20131216-UNOFFICI (text goes off screen at this point)
Checking for MD5 file
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found
Verifying zip signature...
E:Zip signature verification failed: 1
Error flashing zip '/external_sd/cm-11-20131216- (Text goes off screen again)
Updating partition details...
Failed (in red letters)"
Then gives me option of Home, Wipe cache/dalvik(which I also tried) or reboot system
Do you have the rom file on your external sd card..if so I would put the rom zip file on the internal sd and see if it works then..unless you have the rom file on your internal sd already..then disregard this..but it should work.

So I have finally managed to get this installed by basically going back to square one, fresh downloads and fresh factory restore for the 5th time lol and it finally worked. Got a couple questions tho. Is there a way to have the notification LED pulse rotate if theres more than one? like say i get a text and a email waiting for me at same time is there a way to have it switch colours between text and email every 5 seconds or whatever? Also is there a way to make the icons in app drawer smaller?
Not trying to be pushy about getting these added just wanna make sure that its not just a case of ia am missing something
Thanks

Hi, and I'm sorry if there is already solution but I wanted to make new thread so more people see this...Cause I don't want to do more damage...I have galaxy s4 GT-I9505 with android 4.3...Firstly I wanted android 6.0 so I installed CWM app from Google play to make backup but it cannot make it cause my phone wasn't rooted (this was all in app while phone worked normally)...So, I wanted to root it following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803 ...But, Odin showed Fails error (I attached error in post). I exited it and disconnected the phone...Now phone showing firmware issue, and I can enter into download mode and Odin recognizes it (version odin 3.10.7). I just want phone to work again with stock ROM, I don't want any new firmware anymore Can someone suggest what to do step by step? Again, ODIN fail error for root try is attached. Please help me. Thank you very much in advance...
