I’ve been sent as a gift from my friend in Spain a new i-mate windows mobile pocket pc phone edition – HTC Himalayas Model PH10B. It did not come with a SIM card.
On starting for the first time (booting in English) it then immediately went on to “personalize” itself (in Spanish) and seemed to set to Vodafone (with a spanish CDS number and airtel.es I think for ISP services)?
I obviously want to use it with a UK network SIM card (I would prefer to use my contract O2 SIM)
I installed Outlook 2002 from the companion CD (ver 1.0 sept 2003), then downloaded and installed ActivSync 3.8. The device connects no problem to my desktop computer (winXP) via USB and my Outlook Contacts etc synchronize to the device OK.
I used the xda2ulock.exe v2.2 tool which now tells me that everything is "unlocked".
I tried to flash upgrade the ROM using O2 xdaII ROM’s with no success. I also tried to flash/upgrade the ROM to version: 1.72.00wwe and Radio version: 1.14.00 by downloading RUU172126WWE_imate.exe and RUU172800WWE_CDL_SKU1.exe from the Club i-mate web site. The main ROM refused to upgrade, (I tried twice) stalling with the Country ID error message and leaving the device in the Serial/USB bootloader v1.06 grey screen. Fortunately the Extended ROM (RUU172800WWE_CDL_SKU1.exe) recovered the device so that I now at least have: -
ROM version: 1.66.00WWE
ROM date: 02/02/04
Radio version: 1.10.00
Protocol version: 1337.18
ExtROM version: 1.72.800
and an i-mate screen.
Device Data returns the following information: -
U S B 3 2 - 1 . 6 6 . 0 0 W W E - P H 1 0 - C D L - W W E - 1 . 7 2 . 8 0 0 - 1 . 1 0 . 0 0
Using a Vodafone UK SIM card, the phone send/receives texts, connects to the Internet and detects all other UK Networks when searching manually. However, it will not receive or send any phone calls, even though the signal strength indicator shows all thermometer bars (4) OK and the “G” icon appears next to Vodafone UK under “connectivity”. (The device just doesn’t want to know my O2 SIM card – won’t do anything!)
Now I discover that when dialing *#06# the IMEI number shown (which matches Settings/System/Device Information/Identity) is not the same IMEI number as shown on the packaging label and the silver label inside the device behind the battery!
Has my friend been sold a “stolen” device with a Spanish blocked IMEI number which has been re-packaged as if new? Have I caused the problem by trying to flash/upgrade the ROM? Can I find out if the IMEI has been blocked in Spain (I have tried UK Networks who say they can’t trace and report on what Spanish networks may have done)?
I-mate technical support (Milton Keynes) suggests the best they could do is arrange to reload the Spanish Vodafone software, and they would charge me for that privilege, if and when they might be able to organize it!
You can imagine that I feel embarrassed to relay these problems to my friend in Spain whose integrity is unquestionable, yet I can see no other alternative unless someone on the forum can help?
Has anyone got any ideas?
its impossible installing a new rom does not change the imei number there are also no known ways to change imei on xda2
Thanks for info gazzaman2k.
i-mate tech support also said its impossible to have the software showing one IMEI number whereas the hardware shows another - but I'm afraid that's IS exactly what I've got!
I wonder which IMEI number is right? The number on the packing box and silver label inside the device behind the battery, or the other number according to Start/Settings/System/Device Information/Identity?
Does it matter anyway?
it its working fine then whats to worry? lol

Read the post. The guy can't make calls.
nholtom, Its possbile for a device to get an IMEI change if it goes off for repair and gets a new motherboard. But in that case they would change the sticker under the battery. Maybe that happened but they forgot to change the sticker?
Its unlikely to be blocked as stolen as if that happened in Spain, then it should work outside of that country. However it has to be said its behaving as though it is barred as stolen. Maybe it was originally a UK device and had a lost/stolen bar over here - and then sent to spain where it would work normally.
Looks like you'll need to speak to your friend in Spain. Very odd if the imei under the battery and via the settings don't match.
JD
Thank you jdee246 - yes that could be it.
Perhaps my friend managed to buy it at a discounted price if it had been a repair job, (it is after all a very expensive gift at full retail)!
If that's right, it seems that the real IMEI number would be the one that is shown through the software and NOT the one as shown on the labels.
I guess I will have to contact him and ask if he could check with Spanish Vodafone to see if the number has been blocked.
One other possibility might be what is listed on the following web page?
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=PPSIM_VODA1&asource=108654
Anyway - thanks for giving it some thought
Update on progress - or lack of it :-(
My friend in Spain confirms he bought it new "unlocked" from any network and his receipt shows the same IMEI number as on the box and inside label. However, as previously posted *#06# returns a different IMEI number which Vodafone UK now tells me is blacklisted! They can't understand how that has happened or why, if it is blocked, how I can still send and receive SMS messages and surf the net from the device by using a Vodafone UK Data/Voice or Vodafone Voice SIM card.
However, although I can text and surf with a Vodafone SIM card in, when phoning from the device, all one hears are three short beeps and then disconnection. If phoning to the device from another mobile or landline, one never hears a ring tone. My contract O2 SIM card won't even register on any network when I put this in the device!
At the moment I've given up trying to upgrade the ROM, (I do at least have a working pocket pc), but I really would still like to be able to get the phone working!
Are there any experts out there who'd like to hazard a guess at what I can do next?
What about this one
I lost my imei completely.
The phone takes up to 10 minutes to boot and doesn't have a radio stack version listed at all. Right now its just a pocket pc without the phone. And i didn't even try to perform an update to get my qtel 2020 this ****ed up.

Hi,
I'm new to both this forum and android, just switched from iphone and already running into the same dead end that I was trying to avoid. Hope to get some suggestions on solutions before trying sell it off again...
I bought a second hand SGSII which is from the UK (T-mobile), and with the help of my brother who has a SGSII and have been on android for a while, I debranded/rooted changed ROM, Kernel and Modem firmware. Before doing this I noted that it did not work with the network I am on but it did with another (both Swedish). After rooting etc I tried again, still does not work (I've tried several sims from my provider, none of them work, still only the other provider). I tried using the Sim Unlock app on Market but it is of no use: It DOES NOT ASK for a sim unlock code on start up. In fact, the unlock app worked and gave me such a code but I cannot use it. Also, I tried plugging in the code using a few of the call codes but it was of no use. And when I put *#SIMLOCK# into the phone dialer everything says 'off'.
Does anyone have any idea of what to do? I cannot go back to Samsung as I do not have a receipt. I hate to think that I have to end my use of Android before it ever started but I have searched my problem for days on end and neither me nor my brother can think of anything.
Any help most appreciated!
Cheers Matt
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband: I9100NEKF2
Kernel: 2.6.35.11-ninphetamine-2.0.5+ ninpo at titan #20
Build no: GINGERBREAD.XXKH3
Network not working: Telia (Sweden)
Network working: Comviq (Sweden)
I am confused did you buy an unlocked phone . If not did you get it unlocked .
jje
JJEgan - sorry if I was unclear. I do not actually know for sure, but as I have never seen the screen on startup where it asks for the unlock code I suspect that it must have been. It now - same as it has been for as long as I have had it - works only with one network which has nothing to do with T-mobile (on which is was originally).
I only know of one way of unlocking, i.e. the unlock app on Market. If there are others I would be very interested!
Phone may require you to enter the networks APN settings manually .
You may not have the correct CSC file for your network for automatic connection ,
jje
Hi - been busy the last few days and unable to try getting the phone to work. I cannot enter the APN settings (which should only have to do with internet?) as I cannot connect to any network in the list - I get "unable to select network". I've tried multiple official firmwares with both only NEE (Nordic) CSC and multi-CSC (where I chose NEE) and none work. Any other ideas?
Cheers
Hi.
I have a big problem with my G2, and have tried many things.
It all started 2 weeks ago. I lost connection to my network.
I tried many things, and ended up giving it to a repair shop, in China, as I was there shortly. They put a new firmware into the phone, and a chinese SIM card worked.
I found an english version of the firmware, and asked them to update with that version, No problem. Everything worked well...but when I arrived back to Denmark, same problem. Not registered on the network.
Now I have tried many things, as Kies could not recognize the firmware version. I burned a 2.35 version into the phone with Odin, and Kies regocnized the version, and now updated to 4.03. Great, but ... I have the same problem. APN settings acc to my network provider. Oister 3 in Denmark.
I really have no idea what to do anymore. And I cant send it in for repair, as the flash counter says 10 times.
Is ther someone here, with a very deep knowledge in Logs etc, as I can send Logs if I am explained what to do.
The short time the phone worked, did I really love it.
And also the chinese SIM can not connect from Denmark.
I would prefer all Logs etc in private email, but if we solve it, I will poste solutions and results here.
Best of regrads
Morten
As for the counter, install and run triangleaway - it can be found in the SGSII section of XDA.
Check that the sim card works (try it on another phone) and borrow another sim card (on the same network). It is amazing how many problems like this are due to a damaged sim card or just not connecting correctly. I had a friend who took the sim card out to flash their Samsung Galaxy 3 and put in the sim card wrongly and couldn't make a call.
Can you copy your contacts to or create one in the sim card?
I doubt that it is a problem with the EFS folder, ie no IMEI number because it was fixed with a china sim, but it may be. Is the IMEI number you get from dialing *#06# 004999010640000 or different from the label under the battery? If so then you have a EFS folder problem. There is an app that may fix it - it requires root - * HERE *
Mobile network
Hi
Thanks for the reply.
A:
I can make, copy, edit etc contact directly at the simcard in the phone, and also copy, edit etc from Kies to the Sim card. And yes. It is the simcard I can do those things at. Double checked that it was somcard and not the phone memory
B:
Double checked the IMEI number again.
Label phone same as *#06#
Further information:
In the first day, I tried many many things to get the phone working.
I searched the internet a lot, and I found some kind of help. Like with IMEI check, I should type a code like *#xxxx# or *xxxx* Stupid as I was, I did not write down the code, and also did not safe the page on the internet, so I have no idea what code I wrote. I am sure it was something regarding Mobile network or CSC.
Reg Triangle away.
My phone is no longer rooted, as I try to have it in original mode, so its ready to send to repair, if needed. Triangleaway needs the phone to be routed, right ?
And will that not require an unsafe kernel ?
After resetting, then I suppose I need to install an original kernel again, and will that not make the counter go to 1 ?
Any other ideas ?
Regards
Morten
can you be little clear....
no network or no data (internet) on your current network

3: no data will be you cant browse, send receve emails
4: counter can be fixed easy as now your on ics

1. my phone is unlocked(international).
2. signal show full, but no phone call
3. I don't use data, but wifi, and no problem with wifi.
Well, this : not registered on network only happen if phone idle for more than 3hrs, meaning phone just work normally if I don't let it idle for long time. This very frustrating as every morning after wake up I have to switch between airplane mode for phone working again.
Greatly appreciated for your help
Thanks in advance
P/s: currently on Slim rom(cm9). But have tried almost all custom rom found in xda, problem still exist. Even try to change CSC to my current country( Thailand) on stock DL7( included Thailand region), no luck. APN setting also change to default network provider.
Mobile network problem
Hi.
Please see my answers below
1: do you have a locked phone or unlocked. [carrier locked when new]
The phone worked before, and was not locked, but as I send a command to the phone, could I have locked it ? How can I check that ? And it does not give me any warning when I start the phone up.
When I try to make a call, it right away says: Dialling ...Call ended.
2: no network will be no signals at all, no phone call....
No mobile network. It is ONLY a problem with phone calls and reciving calls.
I have plenty of signal
3: no data will be you cant browse, send receve emails
Data is right now not working, WiFi works.
I cant get correct APN settings, as my provider sends this as system configuration to the phone, but cant recive it.
3A: My provided is named 3 Oister, and normally this provider is listed under Network operators. On this phone it is NOT listed. 3 Oister is using network of 3, and only network of 3 is listed.
If I pull down the menu from the topbar on the phone, it actually says 3 Oister, but 3 Oister is not listed under Network Operators.
On my other SG2, 3 Oister is listed in Topbar and under Network Operators.
I bought a new SG2 as well, and we are 2 persons using SG2 here.
4: counter can be fixed easy as now your on ics
How ? Can I do that without rooting and install different firmware ?
I do run ICS ver 4.03, updated by Kies.
In worst case, I will send the phone in for repair, but for sure, needs the counter reset.
Regards
Morten
Put a new firmware in the phone then probably wrong modem and CSC for your location .
Chinese sim unlikely to work 4000 miles away but that is easy to swap sim .
Rom counter for ICS use the search tool for the relevant post .

Hi
Please find answers below:
Put a new firmware in the phone then probably wrong modem and CSC for your location .
As my counter says 10, you can see, I have tried this several times, and its also written in my first post.
Please send the code for check of CSC and changing CSC. As I remember it is set to be NEE.
Chinese sim unlikely to work 4000 miles away but that is easy to swap sim .
Chinese SIM works all over the world, as long as Roaming is allowed. And it works in the other phone. Now I have the Denmark SIM in, and same problem. Yes, I did close down the phone, changed SIM and started the phone again. Exactly SAME problem.
Rom counter for ICS use the search tool for the relevant post .
Would be nice to have the info written here instead.

Sim CSC Modem . Firmware .
Then your answer is hardware fault if above are ruled out as not a problem.

Mobile network problem
Hi again
Followed the guide very detailed
3: using cwm format system, cache, data, sdcard [system is a must]
Wiped all data in System and also Wiped Cache, using:
Root the Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 running XXLPQ firmware and install ClockworkMod Recovery: CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5.tar
Done with Super User Granted.
4: remove battery / insert back goto download mode
Done
5: flash the ROM you downloded using odin, after restart dont do any restores
Flashed with Odin 1.85 in PDA: I9100XXLPQ_I9100HTDLP3_I9100NELP2_HOME.tar.md5
6: wait for few minutes now dial this *2767*3855# [important]
Done. Phone shows Factory Reset in big letters
dont restore any backups including titanium stuff.
Nothing restored.
Booted up, and automatic installed APK's
Same problem.
Only difference is that now the counter says 11 counts
But thanks for a detailed and well told possibility.
As I see it, the problem is connected to the standard the phone connects to the Mobile grid. As I told earlier, I made a stupid thing. I send a command with *#xxxx* in the phone, and I cant remember what code, and I did not save the page on the internet. I really think the problem is about a standard. That the phone is setup to a standard that the 3G net is not using in Denmark.
I can dump logs etc, if anyone can help. But I need to know how.
Regards
Morten
buddy your problem was.... network right? is it working now?
forget counter it will be fixed....later using triangle away with ics bootloader

if your phone now works fine with calls send and recieve, manually add the apn to get 3G.

Hi
Nope. Did not solve the problem.
Just ran Triangle away, and moved the Firmware: I9100XXLPQ_I9100HTDLP3_I9100NELP2_HOME.tar.md5 to the SD card.
Will try now to install it by CWM
And then I give up. Will try to send it for repair ..... really a shame, as I really would have liked to solve it here
Cheers

Mobile network problem
Hi Buddy
It finds a lot of Networks, but cant connect to any of them
3 networks with 3G and 4 with 2 G
But not the Mobile network I need to connect to> Oister 3
My other SG2 finds that network without any problem
Cheers
Morten
I had the same problem too. At first I tought it was a rom issue, but it wasn't actually. I turned my phone off and removed and placed back my sim card and it worked.
Mobile network problem
Finished programming original firmware using CMW as source for Odin, after counter was reset to 0, and the pnone status is the same as before, but counter is 0.
So will try to send it in for repair.
Thanks to u all.
And SIM card has been removed several times, even tried with a different.
No luck at all
Cheers, and thanks again

Compare the IMEI that displays when you type *#06# to the IMEI printed on the label under your battery. They should be the same.
For your own sake, do NOT post what the IMEI under the battery actually is, whether it's the same as what's displayed when you dial *#06# or not.
As for checking IMEI blocking by the carrier, that should be obvious. Call your carrier.
Hi Guys,
2 months ago I bought a Samsung s5 in Hong Kong.
While travelling through South East Asia this device worked fine.
While traveling through New Zealand (Old home) this phone worked fine.
While traveling through America (New Home) this phone worked fine for the first 2 weeks (on the metroPCS network).
The problem:
Randomly after 2 weeks the s5 stopped connecting to the metroPCS mobile network even though the network was available (btw metroPCS uses the T-Mobile network). It gives errors such as network not available or cannot register with network.
Things I have tried:
-Im sure the APN settings of the phone have not changed and I have double checked to see if they are correct.
-replacing the sim card with another does not fix the issue
-soft and hard reset of the phone does not fix the issue
-Getting metroPCS to refresh the service on this number does not fix the issue
Other important info:
-This phone was purchased in hong kong but it is from the Philippians according to Kies's firmware information (XTC is the country code)
-It is running a custom allianceROM that must have been installed by someone in hongkong
-The device is rooted (superuser app installed)
-the model number as shown in settings is g900f BUT when attempting to flash with odin the phone displays g900t and fails to flash the latest Philippians verison of kit-kat
I have 2 questions:
1. Any ideas why my network connection has suddenly self destructed (and how to fix)?
2. Would flashing a stock ROM to my s5 help? and if so why is there conflicting information on which model I own (g900t/g900f)?
Please help. I do have some know how on flashing android devices but i've really hit the wall on this one guys!
Cheers,
Yetti.:cyclops:
It's not uncommon for the model # to be different with a custom rom as that is a very easy thing to edit in the build.prop. It should tell you under the battery which one it is. As far as the network issues, check to see if the baseband and IMEI are still there and not listed as unknown or incorrectly. It's possible you could get away with flashing the appropriate modem that matches with your update and that might work better in this region vs the previous one.
Please list the Alliance rom version and baseband version here in case it's relevant to your issue.
More info
Im not sure if this helps but looking through the build.prop file in the system folder my ro.product.local.region=GB
When in recovery mode the region is set to XTC (Philippians) using mutli-csc.
Also my IMEI number seems ok and is NOT blocked.
Cheers. Yetti :cyclops:
Baseband and rom etc
Thankls for your reply!
Sorry when you say "under the battery symbol" do you mean in /odins boot script on the device/ or /in settings on the phone/?
Baseband is g900TUVU1ANCH
Build Num: AllianceROM_G900F_XXU1ANCF
If the "no network" issue can be solved with the current firmware that would be the most desirable solution but going through the flashing process may be a good idea for my learning process, and will help with future updates.
Do you think getting back to a stock rom would help me?
tHANKS AGAIN!:cyclops:
Model confirmed to be g900t
Sorry i didn't understand the "under the battery" thing. I was lost in software world. The sticker under the physical battery says SM-900T so i guess that confirms that it is a t-moble verison (and the baseband is therefore correct).
I will try to flash the T-Mobile stock image to the phone and see if that works.
Also i will try to flash a modem (after i work out which one i need).
Cheers, Yetti :cyclops:
Current status.
Flashed the stock T-Mobile firmware to the phone. No success.
Flashed new modem to the phone. No success.
Will go to the T-Mobile store tomorrow to see if they can help (I doubt it but i have to exhaust all the options).
Any more help would be appreciated...
cheers, yetti:cyclops:
By under the battery I mean like to take off the battery cover of the phone and pull the battery out and look at the sticker found there.

Yep it says g900t (see above)
As per flashing a modem. I have heard that it is possible to flash any modem for any version of the s5 to the phone. Some work well and others not so much. I have tried 2 T-Mobile modems (baseband) the G900TU1ANCH and the G900TUVU1BNG3 with no success. Do you have any recommendations for a modem to try (or even a custom ROM that might help?)
Cheers,
Yetti :cyclops:
I know that you mentioned they refreshed the service for your number, but do they have the correct IMEI in the system for your account? Metro makes a big deal about that now and you can't just take your SIM from another phone and pop it in a new one and go like you can with pretty much every other service (Cricket is like this too now).
I hope someone can please help me with this, I've been given a Huawei phone to see if I can fix it. I'm completely new to Huawei phones, and this seems to be a particularly obscure model. In the about section in the settings menu, it's described as Huawei Y6 Pro 2017. It's a dual sim model, and the model number is SLA-TL10. Build number is SLA-TL10C636B140
When I google search for Huawei SLA-TL10, I find a completely different phone, and when I search for Y6 Pro, I find completely different model numbers.
It definitely has UK, or at least European, firmware, it has a full set of google apps including the play store.
Most of the time it won't connect to a mobile network with either SIM slot. Sometimes it does, but only when there's a 2G network available. For instance it will connect to EE with a E signal, it will detect a giffgaff (O2) signal but won't get a data connection, and it doesn't detect 3 network at all.
I can't find enough out about this phone to establish if this is likely to be a firmware problem, or if I should skip straight to opening the thing up and seeing if one of the antennae isn't connected properly.
It doesn't look like the IMEI has become corrupt, it returns the correct IMEI numbers for both SIM slots. The baseband version does look a bit strange though, it just says 00006,00006 I'm not sure if that's normal?
Is it possible to do something similar to what I would do with a Samsung phone, where I would flash the baseband/modem file with odin? If so, how would I find the baseband file, and what would I use to flash it?
Thanks.
edit: I've been told now that it was bought in Hong Kong, so I guess the firmware is international English? It defaults to English when I factory reset it.
