Hey!
anyone know a launcher that is fast, goodlooking and dont take to much battery (for x10mini)?
standard one is to uggly.
Try Zeam .. i prefer that to ADW or Launcher Pro.
my money is on Launcher Pro...
best alternates are the mentioned Launchers:
Zeam, ADW or Launcher Pro.
I would also suggest you GO Launcher.
Try them all end than stick at YOUR choice.
Zeam gets my vote for speed...
Launcher Pro was slow and somehow heavy on my X10
Zeam was blazing fast
Go Launcher was something in the middle (more features that Zeam but faster than LP)
It's a while I don't use ADW, I don't like when devs mess up with licenses.
My choice was Go Launcher because of the better dock but I think I'll move back to Zeam soon
Just a quick question.
If I install Zeam then how come I'll release the default one? It won't eat memory?
I like this launcher thing but it doesn't just eat memory the home screen keeps going on every time I turn it off.
By the way does anyone have the backup and restore always on and when he turn it off the coverage goes off?
took zeam, fast n goodlooking.

My money is on LauncherPro+ edition, its quite customizable and have a bunch of options. If anyone needs or anyone wanna try it, im attaching it.

.. not quite getting you with the first part...
Second part, about Backup and restore... I deleted it from the phone completely.. I had network recycle (my network go off and after few sec comes back) but it works just fine now.
I installed zeam and now want to remove the default home application from my hone. Can you please tell me which application I need to uninstall?
After reading this I decided to have a play with Zeam.. all I can say is after 10 min I was back to Launcher Pro+ (I missed my Custom Dock's, The LP widgets and widget resize, among other things)
If you want a good free Launcher.. Zeam seems pretty good (just looks like a cut down version of Launcher Pro)
if you want the best launcher then pay for Launcher Pro +
so anyone say which is the launcher that takes less battery.

i use "absolute system" to remove stock programs.
(root required)
zeam is good but it's lacking something.

Zeam is nice, if you don`t need to make phone calls. Because it is difficult to find a minuscule icon and hit it when you are in a rush.

A possibility to assign another dialer to the call function. Not only the stock one. I am sure somewhere it can be changed.

Stocked Home app is called SemcHome.apk, but i woudnt recommend you to delete it, cause you will have error poping up on boot, just install launcher that you wanna use and when you reboot you will get question in which app to open launcher (Stocked, or the one that you installed), check "always use this app" (or something like that, and choose app. From now on your Home screen and Launcher will be displayed with app that you choose.
Stocked Home app is, after that, useless (until you uninstall Launcher app), but you need it if you dont wanna errors poping up.
i tried them all but i found the best one is home++ it is really great with battery
and it looks really good
For me, Helix Launcher is the best for battery saving. It's like launcher pro but without the customizability, saving battery
I have only had y atrix a few days and am starting to get really fed up with how laggy the device is.
I have installed the updates as advised by the handset and even trien using a 3rd party launcer (launcher pro and adw ex) but still have the same problems.
The biggest thing that frustrates me is when i am trying to type a email and it constantly laggs between typing words.
mine is a uk handset on orange network.
any advice how i get over this...do i need to root it and remove certain blootware or upgrade to android 2.3?/
please advise me with links etc to how i get over this
Try freezing the motorola bloatware through titanium backup. Do a search in the development forum to find the thread.
Could make the difference. Will certainly boost battery life!

Is it laggy over all or just when typing? my Atrix is not laggy at all but certain keyboards cannot keep up. IMO Swiftkey BETA in the market is pretty fast, try another keyboard out.
Use cache mate should kill alott of the lagg
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
No lag here. But yea another keyboard might help.
I noticed that it's app dependent. In some apps its fast, and other apps its laggy/sluggish. The native SMS/MMS texting client slugs behind in screen refresh on the keyboard. Other apps go smooth. I am using BETTER KEYBOARD 8 (paid version), instead of the native keyboard.

lags when sliding between different screens, tried it with standard launcher and also launcher pro in the hope that would be quicker...same problem.
i also fin that it lags badly when typing.just dosent keep up and i am by no means the fastest typer.
phone is standard apart from the launcher, standard keyboard. has the latest over the air update on it.
Hard reset after an OTA update? Cures 99% of problems.. no lag here btw

My runs perfect with lp plus, you have to much running in the background probably! Better 8th & swift are great I have both, using swift now as I feel it's a little better for me.
I had to uninstall Launcher Pro Plus because it took like 3 seconds for a swipe on the screen (the first/second times) to move. It was unbearable.
The original launcher has a lower FPS but at least it works. It sucks in comparison to LPP but if it works, it beats just about anything.
With Blur, things are significantly laggy.
With Launcher Pro, the default animation times create a lot of useless lag, so, under LP preferences, I changed the animations times to instant (eg. zero) or near instant, and I have absolutely no lag anywhere anymore. This is on rooted stock 1.8.7.
its the stock apps. they arent optimized for our phones. if you ran the 2.3.4 you could tell. the keyboard or anything didnt lag on there. even though its buggy.
install better keyboard, that doesnt lag for me. i use swype and it doesnt lag. also install the TWlauncher in themes&apps. it doesnt really lag at all, smooth as butter.
thanks for the reply
i will give the suggested options a try
The new swype beta crashes my phone... it was great except for emails and passwords.
Sent from my Motorola Atrix 4G on the network with the most backhaul, whatever that is. This post might have errors as I hate touchscreen keyboards.
Laggy?
Several issues to take into account:
The launcher that you use. I use None, so that takes the burden off my cpu a lot
The ROM. Stock 2.3.4 is sloww. but can try Ninja or others
The app killer. Try use one that does the job of getting rid of stray processes at least on an hourly basis. Android Assistant is the one I use.
Try and use Start Up auditor, and make sure you dont have unwanted code getting into the mess.
If you have apps in your ext SD that is also a problem.. mine are all in internal SD.
As one previous post mentioned try and freeze unwanted bloatware.
Believe it or not, if your battery is not in a good shape, that will put a burden on the CPU.
Use SetCPU and create profiles. Dont let the phone run out of memory.. that is also a killer. If u use LP, try ant leave it in memory. See if that improves things.
Use Elixir and see who is bugging you.
cheers !
my 2c (AT&T model but in Australia)
- stock froyo = laggy. Launcher pro or ADW helps.
- stock gingerbread = mostly fixed, would be fine for most IMO. Launcher pro flies. Blur is still there however sucking valuable juice and cycles
The ultimate solution? unlock BL and custom ROM. There is nothing wrong with this phone's hardware, its motorola's build that lets it down.
My worse nightware with SGS1 was the laggy desktops - I loved the phone - but the lag was too much for me I hate the lag. so i decided to invest on the SGS2 beast. Problem is I still can see some lag, tiny, but its there i'm sure. In a microscopic scale.
Tried several kernels to workaround the problem and a couple of rom (with I removed cos I love the oficial rom).
Maybe theres some savior on this forum that can help me out.
Anyone?
Different kernels won't fix your problem.
Looks like you have a dilemma. You say you want your phone as fast and lag free as possible. But you also say that you want to use the stock rom.
You could try the rom in my siginature if you really want a lag free and fast rom. It's an AOSP rom, you ain't gonna find any faster.
Cons: Samsung apps don't work. Bluetooth is not fully working at the moment.
You could try a different launcher.
if you want speed try Zeam launcher off the market its very lightweight.
Thanks guys I'll into both options after work, have a good day!
launcherpro is also very smooth. On my 720mhz motorola xt720 it was very smooth and customizable.... So i assume on a 1.2ghz dual core with 4xram it would be gd
MIUI - I've been converted. Without doubt, it's the fastest and smoothest UI I've seen on any phone.
One thing to keep in mind: The more graphic load you'll have on your screens (icons, widgets etc) the more lag will appear.
That being said I'm running Go Launcher EX and have busy screens, yet no noticable lag at all. Running latest VillainROM, no other fancy mods.
Can you elaborate a little on that? In kinda newb in this >.<

You can flash so called ROMs on your device which replace the stock software.
They are often tweaked towards better battery life, speed amongst other stuff. You can find all of these ROMs here on this board.
E.G. Lightning Rom 6.1 is very popular.
MIUI is another ROM, all are based on Android but have a different style and approach. MIUI -though very promising- is still very new and quite beta, so I wouldn't advice going with it yet. VillainROM and Lightning Rom are very stable and safe to install.
Search around for tutorials on how to flash them, there's plenty of how to's ;-)
As for the Launcher, "Go Launcher EX" is one of many launchers you can replace on your phone. The stock one by Samsung is called Touchwiz, others basically look and feel different and have other tweaks on board. Here is where tastes differ. But with any launcher you'll have lag if you overload the screens and most will be quick and responsive if you use them in a minimalistic way.
It's not because of the phone itself, it's because of the poor coding in the widgets etc. Most don't really optimize for speed, unfortunately.
GO launcher EX is by far the smoothest launcher I've used, so give that a shot. Launcher pro and ADW launcher are both smooth as well but I find them to be more undertake unstable and have more problems when it comes to mounting apps that are installed to sdcard.
I also heard that fugutweaks also help smoothen the UI though I've never confirmed this myself.

MIUI is a Chinese made ROM that is clearly built on the Android base, but bears very little resemblance to it. At first use it looks very similar to iOS, which I know will put a lot of people off, but it is ridiculously customisable, and all from the UI, without the need for flashing anything. For example, there's a themes app where you can completely re-skin the whole device at the click of a button, and it has an online database of themes that can be downloaded, again with just the click of a button. But once you have themes on your device you can then mix and match elements of each one to make your perfect theme.
I've literally never seen customisation like it.

Hey man many thanks for your answer.
So if I understood right, theres no way I can have a silky smooth touchwiz on my phone. I must choose another one...
...and if that right, which one you recomend based on smoothness and looks similar to touchwiz?

First thing you could try is this:
1. Download Go Launcher EX from the market.
2. Install this GO Launcher Ex theme: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex.theme.TouchWiz&hl=nl
It has the looks from touchwhiz.
If you are not satisfied, start learning about flashing roms. Then choose a rom and start the procedure from above.

Thanks man I will try it after work.
You may want to try other launchers as well: I love Zeam, which is a lightweight launcher. It doesn't have a huge lot of features but it is always fast to startup and it has enough features for me. If you need to customise the icons on your dock, you should use the Desktop Visualiser and long press on the homescreen>add>shortcut>Desktop Visualiser.
Launcher Pro is another alternative, as is ADW launcher.
You'll need a launcher switcher to toggle between all the launchers--well, as long as you have more than one!
Thanks man. I'll dig into that as well and I did tried some roms too but as I stated before I just want to fix the stocks lag. Nothing more I love everything on it...

It stutters ocassionally, it IS smooth, but it stutters too.
I think it began happening when I updated through kies to 2.3.4.
If you really don't need all the Samsung stuff (Kies, Samsung Apps etc) then I recommend Oxygen Rom and Zeam Launcher.
the stock launcher for sgs2 is touch widz.
i'm used to it and did not find anything seriously wrong with it.
due to curiosity, i tried out other launcher such as launcher pro. go launcher. zeam launcher, adw launcher.
many users like to support their favourite launcher, and often bash at other launchers.
but honestly i feel they are all very similar. just some minor difference.
non of them are perfect to me,
launcher pro: epic fail due to vertical scrolling app tray, hard to find the app i want. cant create folder in app tray
adw launcher: cant create folder in app tray, otherwise very similar to launcher pro. at least got horizontal app tray
go launcher: nice effects, able to create folder in app tray, but battery drain, so fail
touch widz: very nice, but has bug, apps in folder gets rearanged randomly each reboot
zeam launcher: cant make folder in app tray
so finally i'm using touch widz. it has a neat trick as well to be able to pinch to zoom at the app tray, not useful, but nice effect.
despite the problems i find in other famous launcher, they are still highly popular.
is there some other goodness that i miss out?
or is there some major flaw in touch widz that i dont know of?
please enlighten me.
(tell me the hidden pros of other launcher, or fatal weakness of touch widz)
apparently it's the "hip" or "in" thing to do.
just go with what you want. I personally prefer touchwiz as well.
There is no flaw with twlncher. After u modify something in app drawer, u need to press menu > save to keep the changes after reboot.
Twlauncher is my fav launcher, I tried 10+ other launchers, but twlauncher is the best to my liking.

I don't hate TouchWiz.
I actually do like it, there's a lot of good things about it and things I like better when compared to the "original" Android launcher.
I prefer GoLauncherEx though (it's what I use on my "daily use setup") because it gives me even more options for customizing my launching and app browsing experience - for one I love cusomizing my stuff and I am also one of those with like 4398 icons on their desktop (and similar as much apps on their homescreen) so the 7 screens of TouchWiz are just not enough for me and GoLauncherEx allows me to use virtually unlimited screens.
my 2ct
Stick with what you like. It's the only thing that matters, not the opinions of others (Esp deluded fanboys).
PS - I do NOT prefer TW, but, that's my opinion.

it seems you're judging launchers on a very limited number of criterion. creating folders on homescreens, included widgets and themes, ability to configure and modify themes, and widget resizing are just a few other factors. i use 'Go' and battery drain is not an issue for me at all, actually, at (on average) <10mA consumption it tested better than the others for me. but these are mostly subjective evaluations.
also, TW and other stock launchers for other phones (i.e. Sense) are NOT evil. actually, i really like sense. but often stock launchers mean tolerating other stock crapware, and that's not something i was willing to do.
those are my thoughts and opinions...but when it comes down to it, the user-interface affects the user-experience. which again is not objective.
trying to convince someone that the TW launcher (or Go, or whatever launcher) is better than another is like trying to convince someone that chocolate ice cream is better than vanilla.

Why do you consider that feature a epic fail? I personally prefer it since horizontal paging is to slow. I use vertical with Zeam launcher since with horizontal I have to swipe my finger over my screen repeatedly (anything over 4 times starts to feel like a waste of time)
With vertical I flick once and it scrolls the whole way and at any time I can press my finger to stop it in the middle. Or smoothly scroll slower.
1 second vs 10 seconds to get to the end of the list.
But I am not trying to force the feature I think all launchers should provide the toggle-able option after all that is why I like Android, the options.
ADW Launcher EX is what I use as my daily driver and is by far the smoothest I have used.
I find TW the less responsive of them all and customization is just none existent. It's a good launcher to say it came stock with the SII but for people like me who like to customize their launchers and the overall experience, TW is simply not enough.
My top 5:
1) ADW Launcher EX
2) LauncherPro Plus
3) Go Launcher EX
4) Zeam Launcher
5) Nemus Launcher
Rizur.
Hi,
Regarding third party launchers like Nova or Apex, if i install them on my stock unrooted One X+, set one of them as default and restart the phone.. will sense still be consuming resources(doubt much cpu usage, but memory?) in the background?
Thanks!

Daniel

As far as i know...yes. Sense will still be there in background and use some of your cpu power. But a lot less than when actively used. Because without sense you wouldnt have a native lockscreen.
one thing I found you can do to use as little of the systems resources as possible is, before installing a launcher, erase all the app shortcuts and widgets off your sense home screens. widgets especially use "a lot" of memory.
I will try today to mess with it a bit, will post feedback later
Thanks for the info
Update:
Well, it did free some ram.. after cleaning up stuff and switching to nova.. 600/700 ram usage instead of 700/800.. but i missed the Sense stuff a bit too much right away
Even got beautiful widgets reinstalled and some other stuff to try and live on without sense but lost some cool widgets and no noticeable performance improvements.
I guess i should either stay as it is or unlock bootloader and flash some stock android rom
Appreciated your feedback guys

If you want the look of a custom launcher while retaining Sense features try one of these themes from the Virtuous team. They just add additional skins to stock Sense.
I have TSF launcher now and i can say that the only thing you still have of sense is the configuration structure, the phone application, contacts, messages, gallery and the stock notification bar. I can post some screenshots if you want. TSF is quite pricey, but worth the investment i recon.
