How to root HTC one 4.4.2 - AT&T HTC One (M7)

The title basically says it all. I want to root my HTC One. I found this All in one toolkit by hasoon2000. Will it work with the HTC one kitkat version or do I need to find a new one? If any of you have a root HTC one that's running kitkat, can you please tell me what tutorial you followed if you followed any. Also, would I lose sense 5.5 when upgrading because I sorta like it. Thanks in advance.

It's the same as it's ever been
unlock your bootloader at HTCDEV.com
Flash custom recovery (TWRP)
boot to custom recovery and on exit it ask to Root
swipe to choose yes

As a followup to this question just want to verify the viability of my plan. I am getting a replacement HTC One on warranty next week due to a camera issue. My current One is unlocked/rooted/s-off stock 4.3. I would like my new phone to just be identical but with 4.4.2 so my plan is:
Activate new phone do not log in to google.
Update to 4.4.2
Root as per past instructions
Take backup in TWRP of old phone
Copy and load backup to new phone so its identical
Profit.
Sound like it will work?

Could someone share a link for the Toolkit, the original one from the OP have been removed. If I missed it somewhere in the thread I am sorry.

The toolkit was pulled many months ago ... search theirs a different one now.
The best bet is to learn to use adb and fastboot, so if you get in a bind later you know how to handle it

How to make a system update to Gingerbread 2.3.4 > 1.43.531.3 from a rooted htc amaze
After rooting htc AMAZE to be able to modify a detail, I was surprized by not being able to update to Gingerbread 2.3.4 > 1.43.531.3 _ I saw in a T-mobile annoucement that the firmware is planing to update after January 20th to 2.3.5 needing the latest update I am trying to get. Is it possible through a rooted htc AMAZE?
this is what I found previously about this subject:

Hi all,
I got a problem about update my Amaze 4G which I brought at 5/11/11.
I had already root my phone and flash the clockworkmod recovery,
but before a few day, my phone remind my to download a system update.
When I completed download and begin to install,
my phone reboot and turn into the page follow
http://www.badongo.com/t/800/13959704
I saw a port http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297467
Which tell the update information
Android version : 2.3.4
HTC Sense version : 3.0
Software version : 1.36.531.5
Kernel version : 2.6.35.13-g19a3d1a
[email protected] #1
Build number : 1.36.531.5 CL157207 release-keys
and I check my phone information is the same as the update
So I want to ask
1) Can I update the system update by HTC after I flash the clockworkmod recovery
2) If no, how can I update my system at the future or how can I flash back the original recovery
3) Is that update in the port is the latest one
4) If I already had the latest update, why my phone will remind me to download the update
Thank a lot!

Search for the stock recovery and flash it by hboot. Then update your phone and say goodbye to root. To obtain root again you will have to install busybox and superuser.
Honestly it'll be so much easier to flash a custom rom.

There are also rooted stock roms in the development section.

I suggest reading the [Read me first] and faq section if you are not familiar with these things. and possibly do a google search on what unlocking bootloader, and rooting is...if you are unfamiliar with these things you should familiarize yourself first before doing that kind of stuff...There are a lot of good information in those pages that are stickied on top of this forum...Please read them.
you can only have one custom recovery
and like binary said flashing a custom rom is the easiest way.

well, I knew what is unlock boot-loader and rooting. that's the only two things I have done so far, but questions started emerging once I could not make a system update. now flashing a custom rom, that I don't know what it is meant to say or what it does, I only find about how to do these things. please help clarifying the meaning of those technical words to know what best to choose, except anything before rooting

Flashing a rom means putting a new operating system on your phone...basically there is the one that came from your manufacturer, which is the stock rom, and other ones made by developers here.
So I assume you have unlocked bootloader, installed custom recovery and rooted your phone correct?

I mean I have some experience in computer engineering but this is my first time getting myself into the android arena. I could try here and there and find out all without bothering you by experimentation but I am afraid of the bricking syndrome. I don't know how can I be safe from bricking the phone and what are my precautions to avoid that
I still don't know what the OP wants. Maybe I'm just too tired to understand.
Hey Yass,
In 10 words or less.
What do you want? Keep it simple.
Do you want root?
Do you want stock?
Do you want the phone back to factory defaults without root?
Do you want a certain rom?
Please help us help you.
My goal is having a rooted phone that can have system updates like before. I need the root to have the arabic/hebrew supported. pretty much I want a phone that displays and writes arabic as supported language in the firmware. I tried patches that accomplish that only on browser but not everywhere. for that I figured I had to root and with rooting I don't want to loose system updates from what it fixes and improves general usage.

Well my Hebrew and Arabic is kinda rusty so I've never bothered to look.
A lot of the times a custom rom developer will remove the extra languages such as Mandarin, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, German, Japanese, etc to save space in the rom itself since most of those counties don't even support the device. If they do then the local carriers probably don't sell it so it isn't very common. So in conclusion if the stock rom doesn't have it I would be clueless as to suggest which of our extremely limited custom roms would. So in other words I don't think there is anything that exactly fits your needs.
Even here in america lots of people need that language. there are stock roms supporting arabic but not on htc Amaze. as u said, not offered on arabic countries probably, but I know that some guys who want it there get it. and they had solutions to that problem through rooting. I can get help from them. But I am more conserened about keeping my rooted phone getting system updates while still staying rooted. Is this possible?

You CAN still get the OTA but you need the stock recovery and stock rom to install it. So basically... you can root the stock rom via superuser .zip file then flash the stock recovery back. Needless to say that when you install the next OTA you will lose root.

AT&T HTC One X+ CM10 and Root

Hi,
i searched everywhere couldn't find anything about the AT&T verison of HTC One X+ and CM10
Is there a way to root the ATT version and install CM10 on it???
Read only about the international version yet. Don't want to brick my new phone.
Thanks.
Nope, there's still a bit of a wait on CM10/ASOP for AT&T/TELUS users. When a usable version is ready, it'll probably be here with [AT&T/TELUS] in the title.

So, the experimital CM10.1 is running on your HTC One X+. I have the same phone and I have unlocked it from HTC's web site. I'm a noob and don't know a lot about this stuff. Still learning. Should I try any mod or wait? I really want to get the AT&T crud off of my phone. Like I said, my phone is unlocked now.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
There are several non experimental roms you can install already just to get rid of the at&t stuff. Also you could root it and use titanium backup or root uninstaller or something to just get rid of unneeded stuff. If it were me, I would not DARE try anything experimental with my new phone, especially something cm10 related because pretty much all the devs have said there is nothing ready yet on that avenue.

Unlock is unlock and root is root
Indeed. You have unlocked the bootloader which is step 1. Now you need to root which is step 2. There is an all in one tool in the android development forum you can use to root. That might be the easiest way to go. Once you are rooted you can get root uninstaller for free from the play store or titanium backup. Titanium is probably better choice there. You could also flash a rom through recovery that is already rooted but most of those require you flash the kernel seperatly so if you are.very new i probably wouldnt do that just yet. Read up on the process first. Hope that helps.

Thanks! My problem is this..... I used the HTC step by step from http://onexroot.com/one-x-root/how-to-root-one-x/
I got through the step where the instructions say to Mark - Right Click Copy - Paste into the HTCDev.com website
I then followed the instructions on through until the phone was unlocked.
At step 39 the instructions say to -
Reboot your phone into Fastboot mode and type the following in command prompt:and
type and execute at the cmd prompt -
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.2.7-endeavoru.img
OK, I finished these steps and am now stuck at step 40.
I then copied the CWN-SuperSU-v.0.87.zip file to the root of my phone storage
The phone won't boot in to recovery at all
What is the CWN-SuperSU-v.0.87.zip file for and do I need to complete the step by rebooting using it in recovery mode? It will not boot in to recovery anyway.
So my phone was wiped and unlocked but back to the original AT&T build and I don't understand where I pick up in the process.
This is the point where I get confused. I research and read everywhere too. I know my phone is unlocked for sure. It's not bricked yet. :fingers-crossed:

Before I answer any of your questions, I'll let you know that HTC pulled the JB update after it gave users some very horrible bugs. However, they may soon release a fixed JB update which should be available to you. In other words, you won't get the update right now. However you can prepare for it.
1) Firstly, if you do not have a nandroid backup, you're going to have to find someone with a nandroid backup for the same CID as you. You can find your CID by installing CID Getter from the Play Store. Then you need to find someone on here with the same CID as you.
2) At the time of writing this the only ROM working with JB Hboot is the SkyDragon ROM. Note that the ROM you speak of is not JB but ICS, so I don't see why you'd want to upgrade to JB only to reinstall the ROM again.
Hope I've helped

@ORA 1 well there is no official statement from HTC about pulling the update, but people who should be receiving the update have reported that they are unable to update. Various people have also reported discussing with HTC support about the bugs and apparently they are aware. If you look on other threads in different sections on the forums there are people confirming that HTC have pulled the update.

Ok, yes my question was a bit screwball  i want to know how do you know that they were going to do an update. Because i have been onto them, and i think there is a better chance of seeing a pig fly.....Ok, i am being a bit sarcastic, but with no response from the manufacturer does give cause for concern.
IF HTC wants to keep their brand as one of the top brands of the world, they have to communicate much better.
All we want to hear is " We note your concerns about JB problems on the DX, we are attending to it, and as soon as we have developed a fix we will pass it on.
We do apologise for our error, please be patient......
So i am almost certain there will be (a) a fix update or (b) a new update which includes the fix.

I can't remember exactly where someone posted this (there are so many threads on the bugs in JB now ) but I 100% remember reading about somebody who contacted HTC and got a reply concerning fixes for the update. I'll try getting onto them too, the more people kick up a fuss, the more likely they'll fix it
However there are a lot of great devs who have the DX and it won't be too long before we get a fix either officially or unofficially

Sorry missed your post! If you have fastboot tools on your computer, open the folder containing fastboot and SHIFT + RIGHT CLICK on an empty space in that window. Click on "Open command window here"
Next make sure your Desire X is on the stock ROM and rebooted into bootloader, and choose fastboot.
Now from that command window type in: fastboot oem lock
That should work

Ok, lets hope that all will be ok soon.
Pity we cant just download an upgrade from this forum. Viper sounds good
Well having said all this, just checked another recent discussion and it seems like the masters may have cracked it

fastboot tool..?? do u mean to say toolkit.?? or jst cmd window.?? i didnt get u.. and my 2nd doubt is i am on custom rom, so if i wish to relock, then i should come back to stock rom isnt it.?? so hw to come back to stock rom..?? what are the steps to come back to stock rom ..?
sry i hv vey little knowledge abt it...thanx alot in advance:angel:
If you download any Boot.img installer from any ROM thread, they'll contain the fastboot program. So if you go to the thread here and go to the bottom of the first post and download the Boot.img Installer, you can extract that ZIP and there should be a folder containing fastboot, adb and other stuff. Now if you open the command window there (SHIFT + RIGHT CLICK) you can do the fastboot oem lock if your phone is in fastboot mode.
If you want to be upgrading to Jelly Bean then you need to go back to your stock ROM for your CID, if you have a nandroid backup you can flash that through your recovery. If you don't you'll have to ask someone politely for their nandroid backup if they have the same CID.
If you manage to restore the correct nandroid backup, make sure you flash the stock ICS boot.img and recovery.img before you lock the bootloader.

i dnt hv any backups...... my CID is HTC_038 , i hv searched forums bt did not find my CID , so should i request for my mentioned CID..??
one more foolish quest-- someone has posted files for mentioned CID for htc ONE x .. can i use that ..??
Using One X files won't work. I can't find any nandroids for your CID either, you're in the same position as I am. There is one user who has the same CID as you but is in the same position, their name is abhi0409, contact them and maybe you can work together to find a nandroid backup. Or you can just wait for Cyanogenmod 10.1 to be released or wait for a custom ROM for JB which ICS users can flash.
EDIT: another guy called hell_lock on this thread has the same CID as you and has a nandroid backup, but is reluctant to post it because it contains private data
Ok, yesterday i received a call from someone at HTC or one of their agents and asked me was my problem about the update sorted.
I said i didnt want to load the 4.1.3 update but wanted to wait for the 4.1.5 which has the sound bugs fixed.
She said yes, they were aware of the problem, but the new update to my country will be available in a few days.
Now a question to the developers, why cant we just upload these updates from the play store, or HTC itself.
Maybe things arent as simple as that.
We can. HTC can put the ruus on web where all can access them. But they don't, and It's a mystery.
They should really start being more generous otherwise there fan base will decrease drastically.
Sent from my HTC Desire X using xda app-developers app
Htc generally ignore their customer base in these matters.
It's why many of us won't go back to them again.
I contacted them twice recently, no answer at all. No wonder the other manufacturers are doing much better. Awful pity.

Firmware update 1.53.502.11

http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-desire-610-att/news/
Here is an update I found .it's Still android 4.4.2. All that I know is it says bug fixes on the provided link for download . I flashed the firmware through fastboot just now . Works fine ,I don't notice any difference from the stock firmware other than the software numbers being different. There are two variants for download . One for pre paid and one for post paid. I have a contract so I used post paid.
I just wanted to post this for all to dig into and also because through hitting check for updates on my phone ,this update did not show up .I found it manually online .
I've developed some roms in the past for the atrix 2 . I am quite possibly going to be diving in once again as its been a year since I stopped for the a2 and currently this phone needs some development going on .

this update just att phone??
I'm waiting for 5.0 from HTC, but I'm curious if the update will fix a problem with the display. 610 needs devs
I'd really appreciate some confirmation on this. I started the ruu tool and saw it will wipe internal data (prior to reading that I didn't think an update would erase data) Not a big deal. I stopped it and made a backup.
But then I stopped to consider if there are any more surprises.
The 2 step guide right in Google search results does not mention needing adb environment. But other places say you need android sdk tools installed. This is an issue because I don't own a pc. I have everything I need on my Mac but of course I cant run exe files.
Do I need an adb environment for this to work? I can borrow a pc but would prefer to not put too much stuff on it because it's not mine. Just running one program one time--not a huge bother.
Also are there any other things I should be aware of before continuing? With other devices I'm not nearly as cautious but this is my main phone. Thanks.
Sorry to keep coming back but I did a clean install of Windows just for this update. The pc I had really needed maintenance. Still not certain it's necessary but I've got the adb environment set up and working. I just have a few questions...
1. Reading older posts, it says the ruu will relock boot loader and bring me to stock, is this true?
--in case it wasn't assumed, I AM rooted with jmz kernel, unlocked and twrp
2. This WILL lock and unroot my phone automatically, correct? I don't have to do it before?
3. If the answer to the above is yes, I will need to unlock it and root again?
4. Once this is done, can I flash my backup with twrp? Of course that assumes it will be wiped.
Sorry again for what's most likely annoying questions. This is my only phone and bricking it would be bad, worse than other devices that are just for entertainment. I VERY tempted tojust plug in my phone and run ruu but I really want to know exactly what will happen.
For all the threads here I'm surprised this isn't being talked about.

***ok. I finally read the return to stock section and it also is done with ruu. And you do need relock boot loader. Of course this means it will wipe my data.
Sorry. I've read that post before but skipped right over that section. I thought there might be a better way.
TWRP must be essential to flash the kernel but otherwise it really complicates the update process. Without it I could just unroot with Supersu or other tool, take the ota then reroot.
I wonder what differences are in the ROM for pre-paid and contract customers?
Naturally this thread is in relation to the AT&T supplied phones for an RUU with 1.53.502.11 / 1.53.502.12 ( 1.53.502.12 for pre-paid devices)
On HTCdev the main version for the WWE phone is currently only 1.31.401.2, with the Australia (Telstra) as 1.31.841.3.
I have the Australian Telstra supplied HTC Desire 610 (Navy Blue) and it is running 1.31.841.3 with Kernel version 3.4.0-g29bee57 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT
Does anyone know of an RUU for the WWE ROM? or know if the AT&T 1.53.502.XX kernel version is 3.4.0 or 3.4.10 or other?
OTA Update
I received an OTA today on my AT&T 610.I'm rooted with boot loader unlocked and on rooted stock.I copied the OTA file if anyone is interested.I'll upload it and make a shared dropbox folder. There isn't any version info that I can see.I'm.not equipped to read the build prop inside the zip at the moment.Any interest just let me know.

I'd say it's just a prep update for the lollipop we are supposed to get in March.

I heard we weren't getting lollipop till next fall...did they bump it up or was my info wrong?
That did seem like a long wait. By that time a new os might be rolling out!
From what I be read we can expect it.in mid March.I will try to hunt my reference points back up so you can have a look too.

And if its not too much trouble would u try to summarize how you got the update? Did you just relock bootloader, factory reset via HTC menu and take a normal ota? Then unlock it and root again?
Ive rooted and flash ROMs on a few devices already but am surprisingly still confused about this. This phone's gotten so little attention there just isn't much out there to learn from.
Not to mention it'll be a bit time consuming since the PC I used to root this has since died so I'll need a new token. That's where the ruu adds another layer of confusion--as far as I know it doesn't automate the unlock so where's the benefit there? Once you're unlocked, running root tool is easy ...and if you have to unlock and unroot anyway--at that point wouldn't just allowing the ota be easier?
You see. I've got lots of questions. Any help would be much appreciated. Running same firmware 6 months now.
More recent Firmware?
Anyone have an RUU for a more recent firmware? I actually flashed an older version than this (the one in the return to stock thread) thinking it was the latest.
I left it on there for I think around 24 hours, waiting for an ota update before rooting but it never happened so I thought it was already the latest version.
help
plz i will need ur help i have a problem with my htc desire phone can u help me?
this is my email shld in case i might not visit this site often [email protected]

Where can I find a ruu for the a3_ul? Any will do as my phone is constantly rebooting and has errors. Thanks

to those who have eu 610 and rooted in haste

Like a lot of us here, I'm not a developer but a user. Like a lot of users we can get over excited and flash and roots and so on without thinking of the consequences...
I came originally from samsung phones which in all honesty are much easier to root, flash and return to total stock. but I got the HTC 610 as a gift from my phone company. I quickly hit the forums looking for a way to unlock and root my phone and did so without making sure that there was a way to return to original stock.
I'm not blaming anyone here It was me who did it so my bad, since then I have been searching on a daily basis to find original 610 eu rom with no joy.
Now I got mine working ok but like most eu users I encountered problems, my biggest was the constant problem with play services and downloading from play store and after about 6 weeks I started having the same connection problems that almost all rooted eu users have commented on...
Last week I read an article from android police that had an apk of the new play services 6.7.7 anyway when i went to check the info on mine i noticed that mine was only 6.5 which was released all the way back in November, after some research i realised my phone wouldn't update to any other, anyway after some fiddling I got the new services installed and now all my errors have disappeared, my connections have stopped disconnecting and are working totally fine...
Now i Know a lot of you will say that this doesn't affect the connections but all i'm saying is that sometimes when one thing doesn't work it can affect other things and seeing as now I've been using this for 4 days with no problems now, so maybe its worth a try if nothing else...
here is the link to the page and please read it carefully
HTML:

fingers crossed

it is but sadly i didn't make a back up of the original firmware as it was before it was rooted I kind of got ahead of myself and flashed everything in one post... only reason I didn't make a back up was because it was new out of the box so I didn't have any personal data to lose... now I'm using a stock Asian rom that was posted by mini blu on another thread... after some tweaking I've got it working fine now...
shame if i can get a proper eu dump even with root i can make a non rooted stock package
thats the problem
coming from samsung its really easy to get original firmware so i just assumed that the same would be with htc... oh well lesson learned...
htc used to be fine too, they just started being problematic here in the EU, in the states the RUU is clearly available for anyone to download, asking for a european version over live chat got my IP blocked from HTC support as "suspicious"

I contacted HTC US and they advised me to contact HTC Croatia (which I'm from). Then I contacted HTC Croatia and they said (after having no clue what I'm talking about, sending me links to kernel source and how to unlock my bootloader) I should contact authorized service of HTC in Croatia. Authorized HTC service told me that they don't have that file and pointed me to HTC Croatia... Maybe it's better that I didn't get any answer at all.
