Hi,
sorry to disturb you but I do have some little "problems" with my HTC ONE AT&T.
I bought this phone, simunlocked already, and with revone I put it SOFF and than I "converted" it to international version of it (thinking that keeping the AT&T versionI coudn't install internatinal rom...I understood I was wrong but anyway I'm from Europe so I like to have international CID).
Few strange things happened (I'm not sure if it's normal or not).
The first one is that it seems that my phone is loosing memory, it's supposed to have 32 Gb but, as you can see from the attachment, it has just 25.5 Gb, is that normal (I do use a really slim rom, just 150 Mb, but anyway it's the same with any rom I install)...is it normal? Is it possible to format ALL and restore all the memory to an initial state (where there shall be at least 30-31 Gb avaialble I think)??
The second is that sometimes, after installing a rom, exiting the aroma installer, the screen become black instead of getting me back to the recovery (actually it seems it brings me back to the recovery but the screen goes off and no way to turn it on...so force reboot and than everything works fine....but sometimes reinstalling the same rom over and over it works fine, it bring me back to recovery and I can normally reboot the system), is it normal?
Than during the boot it says that this is a test device and so on (a sentence written under the HTC logo), is there a way to remove it? I thought I could do it with revone (I thought it was the tempered flag) but I tried the following thing and isn't removing it even if it says succesfully: Re-run revone to remove TAMPERED from your HBOOT screen: ./revone -t (but maybe it's another thing).
So is there a way to remove that sentence?
Thanks,
Massimiliano
Storage size is normal to show 25.59... As android system uses the rest that you don't see

Is there a way to check if some part of the memory is lost/full from previous rom and it wasn't clean well??
I'm using this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50698141 it's realy minimal, without NOTHING, even the play store was missing...how can it use 7 Gb of memory?

Just go into settings and select storage. It tells you what is being used and by what.. Memory is used like a hard drive and it is formatted so the system can use it properly. That being said on 32GB you loose about 2GB to the formatting. Then the system and everything else on he phone uses it. There is also a swap file of several GB that is used when the 2GB of RAM is too full. There are also a couple of cache that use that memory as well. What you are seeing is typical storage usage of most phones running on Android. You loose around 7 to 10 GB to the system.

Well is like installing Linux on a computer.. The easy setup sets different partitions that the system is going to use for multiple purposes hence losing some GB in the process to be able to perform as required.

Ok I do understand that but as you can see from the screenshot attached in Setting-Storage it says Total Space 25.59Gb, available 24 and something.
I would like to see/understand/access the remaining 6/7 Gb that are not showed there!
I've the feelings that the memory is decreasing every time I'm installing a rom, I also formatted EVERYTHING. loosing the operating system (than I had to push a rom in the memory) but still is like that!
Any suggestion or idea on how to see what is inside those 7 Gb "missing" from the total space?
Any way to format them?
It's not missing, open a terminal window and execute df command - that will list partitions. Data is 25.6GB, system 1.8GB, cache 600MB, etc. All 32GB are there, but are partitioned for different aspects of the OS, you can't change that.

Thank you so much for your answer, I'm slowly understanding how this is working
I am than wondering if it's possible that multiple install of things (updating hboot, recovery, different rom and so on) can leave some "dirty" file or folder meaning that some not necessary files are still there taking space for nothing.
This is my df results, can you check if, for your opinion, everything is fine or if there is some folder too big as it shall be?
Another question is if it's possible to just delete ALL the 32Gb, removing all the partition and stuff and then in some way restore it to a "default" (I don't know what I'm actually saying, I hope you understood what I mean...mainly like in any windows pc you can just remove all the partition, format all and reinstall the OS from zero).
Thanks a lot,
Massimiliano
p.s. I'm including the screenshot of my df result

It looks normal, you can't delete all of the partitions it would brick the phone. Flashing roms doesn't leave old files, because the install wipes the system first.

I don't want to sound like an ass but what you have is normal so you are going to have to live with it. There is no way to get more memory cleared up unless you have absolutely nothing but the ROM running and nothing else downloaded and installed. Everyone who has the 32GB version of this phone has the same amount of memory as you. Some have less as they have installed other apps. added music, movies, and pictures.
The ONLY way you could get more memory is to get the 64GB version of this phone. I knew it did not have a card slot so I took that into account and bought the 64GB version so I would have plenty of space for anything I wanted.

If I knew that 32 Gb meant 25 I would consider to buy the 64 Gb too ... but other than te space I just wanted to understand IF it was normal that, after just flashed a really basic clean rom (just 156 mb of rom) it was normal to have just 25 Gb free (no other additional apps, no photo and so on) ... it's normal, ok, I'll be happy with that and next phone I'll consider a 64Gb version of it.
Thanks everyone for the reply

so we can have one androidOS in the internal storage and another android OS in the external storage?? that's really really cool! Would photon 4g be the first phone to have more than 1 OS installed?

Check my post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652411
I have used suggestions from Atrix thread and they worked fine. I have tried two or three times and each time I got some issues. I was copying stock 2.3.4 ROM onto SD card. One time USB ports were not working - no charging, no connection to computer with the cable. Next time there was problem with Play Market. I have tried different steps to reset its settings to no avail. It was giving error related to storage unavailability while downloading anything. I have removed Play Market completely, then somehow install it back, but the issue was not resolved. Now I think maybe it's a permissions issue.
Also device was really slow while running OS on sd-card (I have 32GB Transcend Class 10). It's fun to try but I don't see any practical use for it.

hey can you write a detailed guide with instructions on how you got dual boot working on photon 4g please !? I cant afford to make mistakes and bork my phone >.>
And like you said as long as i can charge my phone and connect to my computer with one of the operating system its not a problem. But having dual boot will be really helpfull means I can check out more than one Rom simultaneously.

The instructions I followed from Atrix page are very detailed. Link is here
It takes time to have a thread where most of the common questions answered. I think it is useless effort to start similar topic here, in addition - I don't have necessary time, knowledge and wish for this.
Anyway, if you do something wrong - you should always have full backup - then you risk nothing. Remember that if you got soft-bricked and recovery doesn't work, you can always use RSD lite to load stock 198_7 ROM, unlock, write new recovery and restore from initial backup.
The only difference between Atrix and Photon, (relative to this task) that you should keep in mind is the partition sizes. Partition table by LAKSHMAN in Play Market (or any other partition tool) can show you your partition sizes. I didn't guess to use these tools when I followed the instructions. Add up some 10 GB to each partition, just in case. When you partition your SD card, you should create partitions of the following size:
system - 420 MiB (stock ROM system partition size 408 MiB)
cache - 645 MiB (my current cache size on stock ROM is 610 MiB)
data - 2.6 MiB
I would also recommend to use script manager to launch scripts that will replace boot image from one to another. In other words, it will control where you will boot next time.
Note that Windows 7 is going mad about SD card with several partitions - sometimes you can see a single ntfs partition, sometimes it shows the ext3 partition, offering to reformat it.

no im sure he miss typed he meant MB like he says in his post in the other thread. ok thanks man ill play around with it a bit so you're sure the phone wont be hard bricked right? I'm a very careful person I'm pretty confident I wont make mistakes all i want to know is everything every instruction given there is detailed enough and that nothing is omitted from it(meaning i dont have to do anything different except the partition sizes you mentioned here)

Yes, everything else from that topic applies. Be careful when you use dd. If you specify wrong drive names you might be in trouble (this will require loading sbf with RSD lite to fix partitions, I guess).
The longest part is to extract boot.img, edit the configuration file there and pack the whole thing back to andorid .img format. It requires you to install Android SDK with some tools that might not work straight away.
I just root my S4, and it worked. I got hyperdrive on it and its ok...
I have 16GB S4 and there is a new rom from hyperdrive and I cant download it because I don’t have enough space on S4… somehow there is 7 GB in system memory… what can I do to minimalize that.. I don’t even have anything installed on it jet and its saying I got 700MB left… and what app are you using for resolution change like on yours S4…?
I also have two recoveries installed and I olny need one but idk how to get rid of second one...
and I had this idea yesterday and I want to know if u guys think its going to work...
I want to try different systems, so can I get my phone back to Verizon version rooted and install apps that I want. Do back up then, and from memory cards starts up system... so I will not lose my apps all the time and I could try something new each day all I have to do is change sd card.. is that even possible?

It wouldn't be automatic so not the way you describe it, but I've done it, even in the same sd card, just nandroid one rom then flash the next, then when I want the old one back I just nandroid the second and restore the first and so.on

1) You cannot reduce the amount of space allocated for system. It is a partition of fixed size.
2) Delete some of your downloads. They are taking up over a gig and a half.
3) Use an app like Folder Mount to move some folders from the internal memory to external and symlink to the expected locations.
4) Use Xposed Framework and the app settings module to adjust per app dpi and resolution.
5) You only have one recovery installed. When you flash a recovery image, the old one is overwritten.
6) Your idea will not work as described. You will have to go through setup and app installs for each rom, back them up, and then you can switch between the backups as often as you'd like.

Once again, you only have one recovery installed. The screenshot that you posted is a generic setup screen in Rom Manager. It requires you to choose which recovery you have installed and is not an indication that those recoveries were autodetected.

It booted up but got stuck on the screen right after the white HTC one. I flashed back to jellybean and tried a FACTORY RESET. It reboots me into RA-VIGOR with the error message "E:Invalid command argument"
I can boot back into jellybean but now it is telling me there is NO INTERNAL memory. Where did it go?

No you just didnt read threads or previous quiestions...upon moving from stock to a 4.2 based rom you got the bug from memory on that...you need to switch to twrp if not on that and mount and partition your emmc and internal sd card....this has been a known bug for the longest time now....dont use Amon Ra (RA-VIGOR) as it gives bugs on rom installs for any rom really and it doesnt play nice....such as possible phone overheats, battery drain, and many random reboots even after not upping your min frequency

Yep, you are right, I did not read previous threads as I did not know there was a problem with Amon Ra when I first installed it. The Infection 2.9.1 thread recomemended using it! Anyhow, I have since got a message pop up on the screen that said something about bad memory and told me to format it. I did, and now I can see my internal storage again. It is now empty of course, but what was on it when it was factory ? Is there anywhere I could get a copy of those files from?

Yes, it is the internal 10gb that I meant. For a while it was not showing, either on the phone or in windows. After the message on the phone came up to format it (which I did) I could then see it in both windows and on the phone. I had not taken any notice of what was on it beforehand. I have only had the phone for a couple of weeks as it was given to me by a friend who was cut off from Verizon for not paying his bill !! I shoved in a TMOBILE sim from a spare phone I had and it works just fine for making calls but only Edge for data (not that it matters as I have a Optimus L9 for data)
Any info you could find would be most appreciated.

to go back to stock you actually have to first s-off and unlock the bootloader....also 4.2 reboots furiously if you dont set things up right...try a 4.3 rom like Tachyon or Carbon Rom....on either one of those ive yet to have a randoom reboot on proper settings that i set up

I was looking at the Tachyon rom yesterday as it happens, but I read somewhere that in 4.3 they changed something with the way memory is handled? and that you can no longer select the external SD card in the camera app, only the internal memory. Is that right?

yes but to be honest....stock is the same exact way
Edit...if your looking for a good fresh fast and to have everything work but base build go with tachyon....if your looking for fully customizable everything thats fast and stable go with carbon rom or pac 4.3....also you can download and replace the stock gallery with one that does save to internal sd card which is 10gb...you can always transfer to external sd as well as to a pc
Now I consider myself above average on pc/tablet/phone blah blah knowledge. This is my second tablet and my first I unlocked and rooted and my iphone is jailbroken so I have some knowledge. Now the problem I am having is my secondary tablet is a Ultratab Jazz C925 android 4.0 baseband 1.5 build number 98v2-z1-h1-h01-2659.20121012(version1). One day I am not sure what I did(this was a while ago and this is why this one is my secondary tablet) my tablet restarted and all the memory was gone. Now I don't mean I installed to many apps. It was factory reset and the total space now shows 0.00b with the apps taking 37.32. Now I should have somewhere around 700-1000 Megs with no apps installed. I have tried doing a factory restore clearing the cache and I have recently even tried to say screw it and making the default app installation location the SD card but I can't get anything to work. I have also tried installing a couple custom Roms to see if this would like reset everything. I have a feeling this might have all happened when I tried to change the partitions due to the fact the memory was set to have half internal memory and half internal SD card(was very inconvient). Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix it.
Thanks.

Hey Everyone, I have a burning question:
FYI: I have a rooted kindle fire HDX 7"
Can I use the HDXPosed Mod (in the android Development forums) on my Stock ROM? because Safestrap only lets me use 4GB, so I was basically just wondering if the HDXPosed Mod was for the STOCK Rom. Thanks in Advance
Yes.

That's a misunderstanding.
While Safestrap does limit you to a 4GB partition, the way HDX counts storage is the data (books, music, video, pictures...) resides in a completely SEPARATE storage that's NOT a part of the 4GB limit.
So apps that count storage will show you that you have stuff way past 4GB.. and you do have stuff stored there.
So the 4GB limit doesn't actually mean very much to apps that are written properly.
Now to answer your question... Yes, you can use it on stock OR any ROM slot. I did.
Google Play?

Yes, I used this to get it working on my stock ROM. While not recommended, it is possible to flash in SafeStrap to the stock ROM slot. Just make sure you have a nandroid backup first, in case things go wrong. And follow the instructions to a T, otherwise they will not work.
Only Way?

No. You can do it using SafeStrap in a rom slot. Or, you can just install the Xposed stuff & then use a utility like KindleFree to install the play store, or use adb & do it yourself by hand, or you can modify the partition table & utilize the secondary framework location (don't even think about this option)...
The bottom line however, SafeStrap DOES NOT limit device storage. It creates a loopback partition with a shared storage pool. The only thing that is limited is the rom slot /system, /data & /cache looped partitions. These are limited in the stock, 100% factory setup too, but the user storage space is SHARED. So, when you have a big app, like Asphalt, or Madded 25, the biggest thing is the obb files, which are stored in /sdcard/android/data & is a part of the shared storage. While the storage settings may say xxGb available, it does not correctly reflect how much storage you truly have. You can indeed access 100% of your 64Gb, or 32Gb, or whatever amount of storage your HDX came with. the only thing you lose storage-wise, is the 4Gb you use for the rom slot,
PEOPLE! You still have access to ALL of your user storage, i.e. /sdcard with SafeStrap.
Sweet!

I guess ill be flashing Thor GAPPS JB Rom tonight!
Regarding storage
The issue I've run into regarding the 4gig partition is that if I download shows from Amazon Prime for offline viewing, it seems to go against my 4 gig. So right now I can really only download one or two shows onto my Kindle via Prime offline viewing. Anything I can do about this or am I missing something?

No, this is true. Because of Amazon DRM/DHCP protection. I have been working on something for this, but it's slow going due to other responsibilities.

Yes you can, but if you f*** up, you don't have a backup, so it's MUCH SAFER to play with a ROM slot instead. Capisce?

First of all I want to say thanks to all who contribute to this forum. I just bought my HDX 7" and within minutes I was able to get root access, Safestrap, and install the Google Play Store. No issues whatsoever, it all works great and the Kindle rocks! :good:
The only issue I have is with the quote above. I also see that everything eats up those 4GBs, not just Amazon Prime videos but also games, my own videos, Google Play apps, or anything else really. I only have about a GB left and that means I can't really do anything.
And no, that is not what's actually left. I rebooted with the stock ROM and it was showing 6GBs of free space.
Am I the only one having this problem? What I read about the Kindle installing apps on shared storage sounded great but it doesn't seem to apply to me at all.
My Firmware version is 13.3.1.0.

yep. And it's not just wrongly displayed as I read in other threads - whatever I try to download of a certain size, it just fails because I don't have enough storage. I'm confused
Anyone have tried install gapps in rom slot, then backup and then restore this backup to stock rom? If it works well, we can delete the rom slot, and recreate it when we need.

Not much was there. I'd say less than 1GB, just some basic apps.
Then I tried to download an Amazon Prime video and it failed. I tried to download a Youtube video and still failed.
I tried to transfer a movie from my Mac and failed. It would just say that there wasn't enough storage available.
For now I have restored to default because it was unusable with only 1GB of space left. I'm pretty sure I still have root access but all the Google Play stuff along with Safestrap is gone, and I have 12GBs left (out of 16).
