[Q] how to increase internal storage? - Motorola Droid RAZR

our phone have 16gb storage but we use only 8gb.
3.8gb is too much for applications. 1gb is enough for applications.
or i don't use webtop, can i delete webtop partition?
(xt910 - cm11 nighty - safestrap 3.65 stock slot)

this phone have 16 GB, but only 8 GB usable. Is there anyone who complained?

I thought our phones used 8GB for phone/system, 8GB for internal storage, and then whatever space you have on the user changeable micro SD card. Check settings, storage to get a complete summary of the memory on your phone (If you are running a custom ROM do this check from the stock ROM).
Mine has 16GB external storage. Motorola says you can use up to 32 GB micro SD cards and there are reports that the new 64GB micro SDXC cards will work as well (may require reformatting first). 128GB micro SDXC cards have just been released; I'm waiting to see if anyone gets them to work in our phones.
That should be plenty of storage for an entire music and photo collection IMHO. I would be hesitant to delete any system files like the webtop partition unless I had a complete backup so I could recover if something goes wrong.

You cannot re-partition your internal storage.
However, you can always use an external sdcard if you are running low on space.

Internal Memory

I'm just wondering how much internal memory do you guys have left? I have the T-Mob 1024mb but after WinMo, Android, and some apps, all I'm left with is about 75mb. Does that sound about right to you guys?
How do you guys with the 512mb version manage to run both winmo and Android?? I'm using Energy Titanium, which is very light and small already. I'm surprised Android and my apps take up so much.
android runs off the sd card not the internal memory
there is a total of 576MB of ram on the phone plus a 1GB ROM plus a 16GB storage card. You should install apps to the storage card instead of the phone to save space.

When I go into Settings>SD & Phone storage> Under Internal phone storage, it lists 82.47MB, this number changes as I delete and installs apps.

How do you install apps to the sd card? When I download an app from market, it just automatically installs and I'm given a choice to choose either the internal phone storage or sd card.
tap on SD card as that is your external storage and then proceede with the installation

Neutrino 2.9 emmc vs sdcard

Hi
I installed Neutrino 2.9gt rom. I have a 32gb sdcard in phone.
In stock rom apps used to install in 10gb part (old name sdcard) and sdcard was named as sdcard-ext . My media was in 32gb ext card. It was easier like this.
Now 10gb part is named as emmc and 32gb sdcard is named as sdcard. If i chose to intall apps to internal they are installed to 2gb reserved internal memory and if i chose to intall external apps are installed in 32gb external card.
So how can use this rom as stock roms . I want apps to be installed in 10gb part (newly emmc)
Thx in advance & sorry for grammer )
There should be an option somewhere in settings that says to use internal storage or something. Haven't used my atrix in a few months so I don't remember.

some roms/recoverys do mount sdcard as external sd or sd-ext. i have got very confused when i switched from one to the other.
Below the option to install apps is a checkbox saying Use Internal Storage. Its swaps emmc and SD card. So it should install to the 10gb as it is now the external memory.
Settings,cyanogenmod settings, application
D3 was right.

You never stated that it fails. You said it installs to the sd card but didn't mention anything else.

[Q] CM10 Internal Storage Partitions

I have internally flashed CM10 with a few hiccups along the way (see my other posts). Most recently, my NT reverted back to stock presumably after 8failed boots - still not sure how this happened as I thought I had wiped the drive.
Anyway, I have reflashed and now am noticing that there are two internal storage partitions. One is about 2gb and has all the apps data on it. The other is about 3.7gb and has nothing on it. I started getting warnings that I am running out of space, and I'm wondering why the 3.7gb partition isn't getting used. I know B&N restricted access to the entire HD, but I would be surprised if cm10 did? Anyone know what's going on? Is it possible that there is still some element of stock on the tablet causing these oddities?
The partitions are what they are unless you repartition, regardless of what OS you run. Of the 8GB on an 8GB NT approx 3GB is needed for the OS, so your numbers make sense.
Some apps look for an sd card and although they usually say so I have run across just say "out of space" when they don't find one.
Some ROMs switch storage locations so the internal storage acts as the sd card, but I don't know if any of the NT CM10/CM10.1 ROMs does this.

That makes sense about the partitions. But is there any way to use the 3.7gb partition? Right now everything wants to save to either the 2gb partition or the SD card.

Safestrap 3.11 and a new SD card

So, i got a new SD card, transferred everything over and it works fine. Except safe strap doesn't recognize that the new SD card is bigger. When I try to create a new ROM slot it thinks the SD card doesn't have enough room. Any suggestions?

Safestrap
Safestrap is not using space on your external SD card for ROM slots. It is uses your phones internal memory and partitions it. 8gb of 16gb is for your stock rom. The remaining 8gb is available for custom ROM slots. When you create a ROM slot you choose the size of the data partition. Even at 1gb of data your ROM slot is going to take up a little over 2gb (System/Data and cache partitions). Your External SD card just holds back-ups. I at one time had my stock ROM and 3 additional slots created in Safestrap..I didn't have enough free space for a fourth additional slot (even at 1gb data partition). I know that doesn't help in your situation, but explains why you are limited to the memory internal to your phone.
That makes sense. I guess I wasn't understanding how safe strap works. I haven't rooted a phone since the original incredible so this is kind of all new to me again. Thanks for the reply.

Increase Internal Storage through Marshmallow?

Well...
I've got a moto E and a 8GB SD card. I have been using MM(AICP) for like months and I really love the ROM and its battery backup but the thing is I'm running out of storage space.. The system itself takes like 1.2 GB out of 2.1 GB available internal storage and few basic apps - I'm full...
I have only 1 game and would like to try more like I used to but can't download as play stores says I'm out of space... Updating apps have been an issue too.. I want to fix this by buying a Samsung 32GB EVO+ class 10 (20MB/s Write Speed) and use it as my internal storage...
Worth it?
Anyone using their SDCards as internal storage? Bugs or Good Experience?
Should I buy or go back to CM11?
-Thanks
Yes. It will be worth it and the problem you are facing is faced by everyone.
So is your phone rooted? If not search xda for methods to root your phone. Then use Link2sd. You can find detailed guide on how Link2sd works in xda itself. if not then i can help.
How link2sd works? In short:-
It requires 2 partitions of your sd card (you will know how to partition your sd in every link2sd guide) one partition for media storage like songs videos images etc and the other will work as internal memory. For this you will require rooted device. And also you will need Foldermount which will enable you to move the obb or game data from internal to external sd. And root is necessary for this too. Hope it helps.
Marshmallow has inbuilt feature of using Memory Card as Internal Storage.
I am using it from a month and honestly no bugs.
The only problem is that you have to format your SD card in the phone itself to use again as portable storage device.
The second thing is that If you format your phone or start using another ROM your SD card data will be of no use and you will have to format it again.
Hope I helped you.
Thanks both of you... I should go for a 32GB class 10 then?

Yes you can.
Now... I've got the SD Card. What should I prefer? Link2SD or Marshmallow's feature?
I want to get the best performance out of SD card... Plus hassle free operation.

marshmallows feature since it automatically moves all apps to SDcard.
One more thing link2sd will create partition out of your SD card while marshmallow will automatically format your SD card as internal storage..
Marshmallow feature is strongly preferred.
Hope I solved your query.?
Well I've been using this hybrid method lol. I partitioned my SD card so that - one partition is used for marshmallow's feature and rest space as portable storage
Didn't wanted to go all in as the feature encrypts the entire card and makes it unusable on other devices.
My phone's running smoother than before maybe coz of the Class 10 UHS-1(though UHS-1 speeds aren't supported by my device) card I've been using. I'm getting ~11.63 MB/s which is faster than phone stock internal storage(~11MB/s).
Thanks for all you suggestions and inputs!
