Hi everyone, I recently removed the stock music player due to the fact that I never use it, but it has created a conflict with me being able to change my ringtones. When I click the plus sign logo, it says "No applications can perform this action. Enable disabled built-in application?" I press OK, but nothing happens. I'm assuming because it needs the default music player to be reinstalled? So if anyone has the stock music player, please upload it or please assist me with how to fix this error. Thanks in advance.
use a ring tone maker app from the play store, or place songs in Ringtones folder so they can be chosen from settings.

Okay, thanks for that, but I still want my stock music app... I don't want my phone to give me an error message when I press the plus sign in ringtones, I think it's because I removed it...

not sure what model l9 you have but this should work. FYI you can get any app or etc from the kdz (look at my signature for the guide).
here's the LG G2 music player, I like its interface better, and it has the same functions. just push it to system and change permissions to r-w-r-r:

Cannot add rintone or notifaction sounds
I have the same problem, I removed the stock music app on my LG-F3 Android phone because it was interfering with my preferred player. Now I cant add Ringtones or sounds to my phone. It says 'No Application can perform this action. Enable disabled built-in application?' But there is no app to re-inable and I cannot find a copy of the stock app. Any able to help? The above apk. does not install on my F3 and the other link is no longer active.
Thanks.

Same problem, same phone. I don't know the cause - the stock music app has been disabled forever, but I always could still add new ringtones. This is all of a sudden, in the past couple days. If I click 're-enable' OK, nothing happens - I can click it again and again. If I go to the system Music app (under Settings ---> Apps), it shows as Enabled, but shows 0.00 KB as its size, and 0.00 cache, 0.00 data, - no nothing. I have lots in my Ringtones folder, but can't get to them, and no other Ringtone app seems to help. Re-installing the Android stock Music app didn't do any good, either.
Thanks

Wow, where did you find the stock music app to reinstall, I have been looking all over for it.
The only thing I found that works for using custom ringtones and notification sounds now is an app called 'Ringtone Setter' it is available from the Play Store, hope that helps you some, it is a roundabout way of doing it, basically it moves/copies the ringtones you want to it's own folder and assigns it from there, seems to work well once you figure it out.

Excellent, cheers for your help, Ringtone Setter worked a treat!
I found stock apps in a few places - I'm not sure at all if any of them are the right ones for our phone, but I just googled "LG Optimus music app". One I found was right here on XDA. I kinda don't trust the background of any of the other ones enough to post in an open forum, but I'll PM you two others that I installed on my phone and tried (to no avail) - they might work for you.

btw i had to uninstall, I was playing with the setting and when I hit the stream music button I couldn't find any of my local music on my card. Stock app did just fine.
I know, we can't use that option but it was a "don't touch that button" scenario and we all know it had to be touched.
I personally don't care for it until we get full functionality for it. I see some great options in it but I couldn't find the equalizer presets like the stock one has. (normal, pop, ext...)
This works really really great, thanks
Not for me...
I get force closes when I try to push this down on Bionix 1.2.
Could be doing something wrong - I renamed my MusicPlayer.apk to MusicPlayer.ap1 and put the new app in /system/app using ADB. I'm not new to the process, but this one is throwing me for a loop.
I just clicked it and installed it and have 2 music players now.
My stock and this.
I have flagship.
Its because the stock music for flagship is not stock but a miui music player

Interestingly, it wants to replace my system media player. May be time for a full wipe of the Bionix -v 1.2 ROM. I've had this one installed for a couple days (not quite a week) anyway. I usually can't go 2 weeks without flashing.

Only issue I have with this is that shuffle all does not work, and the song title thing on the notification bar...

You could freeze the stock music player via titanium backup(paid) if you don't want to completely nix it.
I'm having all the same issues you guys are having and also a force close when I went into sd and deleted some mp3 files. Other than that it works well, thanks.
Well i had to go back to the stock music player.. for some reason when i would do other tasks or when my phone screen would turn off or on the music would get choppy and skip for a second or two.. Im sure there will be a better port soon...

I have some of this posted in the Q&A but thought it deserved a thread here as I now have it working with Google Play Music on ICS. I have not been able to get the new YouTube application ported over to ICS yes but I'm still working on it.I could probably get this working on Gingerbread by changing the manifest again but I no longer have a GB device so if someone really wants it let me know.
What you need:
The modified NexusQ.apk file from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28636772&postcount=23
The new 4.3.605 Google Play Music apk which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19423409&postcount=1
A Nexus Q and WiFi network.
A device running ICS. I used my Bionic running leaked ICS but I did have to root in order to install the new 605 Play Music application.
Instructions:
Install the new (4.3.605) Google Play Music application from Steve0007's posted linked above. If you get an "Existing package with same signature.." error you will need to do the following (this is what worked on my Bionic):
WARNING: ROOTING YOUR DEVICE AND CHANGING THE SYSTEM FILES CAN CAUSE BAD THINGS TO HAPPEN, PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Root your device (I used this method on my Bionic: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...gh-releases-ics-leak-root-exploit-bionic.html.) Install Root Explorer from the market and delete the existing com.google.android.play.music.xxx.xx.xxx apk from /system/app. Reboot device. Copy 605 apk to device and install.
END SCARY ROOT WARNING
Install the modified NexusQ.apk, plug in the Q, turn on Bluetooth on your device (it will prompt you to if you don't) and get connected! I had to go through the process several times before it successfully paired up but from what I've read the same is true on JB devices as well. If you need to wipe out the Q you do so by unplugging it, plugging it back in and as soon as the blue ring starts place your palm over the single LED on the top until the ring goes from flashing red to swirling purple. This will factory reset the device. Since getting both my Bionic and Xoom paired it's worked well.
Enjoy until the official ICS and below apps drop from Google.
If anyone is successful at getting the JB YouTube application working on ICS please let me know.
Thanks to everyone that helped me get this working!
Thanks a ton!!! I've added a link to this in my roll-up (here) in the general thread so others will find it. I'm now able to use my Nexus Q, thanks again!
Eventually I'll start learning to do some dev work :/
I followed your directions but I still cannot stream anything, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I was able to get the Nexus Q 8 Ball easter Egg to work.
What is your current status? Do you have the 4.3.605 music player installed? If so you should have the little "beam" icon on the top right when playing music and tapping that should make the Q almost instantly start streaming that song.

Did you read the part about needing to manually remove the old play music application via root explorer (or a simple uninstall if allowed)? Have you tried either?
I wasn't too happy with Google either but the support page for the NQ does say that it is only working on JB until purchased units start shipping. Plus I've learned a lot getting this to work! ;-)

Just though I should specify what rom I had success with. I copied the app to /system/app folder and changed the permissions. I did NOT have google music previously installed. When I ran the app to install it said install failed. I then installed the NexusQ app directly from my SD card, which installed no problems. I did not try to run the NexusQ app and rebooted the phone. Once rebooted i turned on my WIFI and bluetooth and launched the NexusQ app and rebooted the Nexus Q. The app paired up with the Q no problem. I was then able to run Google Music app and play to the Q with no issues. *NOTE* When i walked out of the house (i did not manually disconnect the wifi or bluetooth, just hit the stop play music button and turned off the TV and receiver) and came back later, turned the TV and receiver back on, the visualizations or music track would not show at all. Just the NexusQ home screen. I rebooted the Q and everything is working fine again.
No, youtube does not work (which I think is posted an original post somewheres). It seems that a ported app will be needed to push youtube videos to the Q. I cannot test Google movies/TV as I dont own any.
I've tried exactly this on my HTC One S running ICS (albeit with HTC Sense) and can't get it to stream to the Q.
Everything installs fine (if I move it to /system/apps and change the permissions as mentioned) but I see no option in the Play Music app to stream to the Q.
Additionally, the new Play Music app looks it has lost quite a bit of functionality to the previous version - perhaps indicating that the installation went badly? For instance, there are much fewer options on the settings page and there's no option to choose or configure my Google account anywhere.
bobukcat - is this the case for you?

It still took a bunch of tries to get it to do anything though.

When the Q finally showed up in the new Play Music app, it was after turning wifi off/on a few times ... don't know if that's what finally did it though.

No, my play music application has all the previous functionality and even more options in Settings, including Nexus Q settings. Did you install the Q application first? I don't know why this would matter but that is what I did.
Did you just move the new play music apk to the /system/app location or did you actually install it from application manager in Astro or other file manager? I don't know that just moving the apk to that folder will work (I don't think I even tried that) so you may have to delete the old one, reboot and then install the new one from the apk. Please try that and let us know if it works.

Yeah, I've tried to rebuild the YouTube application from JB with a new manifest multiple times but I still can't get it to work right, I did finally get it to install but it just constantly FCs and never really runs. Clearly someone much more skilled than I (which wouldn't take much) at modifying apks would need to look into this or we just wait for the official app from Google to drop.
Strange that the volume control from your phone doesn't work, as long as I'm in the Play Music application it works fine on both my Bionic and Xoom.
As reported in the OP I too had lots of errors and force closes, etc. when trying to get this to run the first time but from what I've read that happens on JB devices too and in fact I had a few on my Xoom running TeamEOS nightlies.
I rooted a about a week ago and like 3 days later I got this message whenever I tried to use the Music app that's built in. Since I couldn't restore it or anything I decided to restore the phone to factory default and start all over again. Then I rooted once again and about 3 days later I started to have the same issue, same error. Now Im using google music, but I dont like it and I can't seem to find a way to restore it.
Im running VRUAME7 update, backed everything up with titanium, but when I try to restore the app it doesnt work, I deleted bloatware from the music, but was very careful about not deleting anything that could affect the Music app, so I'm not sure what's going on, and hope that I can find an answer here.
By the way who is the maker of the Music app, I couldn't find it anywhere, but I don't think that it is Samsung.
Anyways, thanks.

Hi ??
1.open /system
2.create a folder with this name=>preload
3.cut your smusic folder which exists in app or prive-app and paste it into preload folder
4.delete the lib and arm folder in smusic folder
5.if the music folder and its app have another name, rename both into smusic.pay attention that they need to have similar names.
6.this method only works in Rooted devices.
7.reboot your device and enjoy ☺ ☺
8.I'm not responsible for problems and another issues
Just wanted to post that I have installed Viper4Android and it works beautifully on my rooted S5. This app is the #1 reason I root.
This app will change the way you think about sound (seriously). Every time I demo the difference to someone by turning it on and off they immediately ask me to install it for them.
Installed using directions by @docnok63, paraphrased below for your convenience. I have only tested this app on my rooted T-mobile S5, and only with spotify (it's the only player I use). Of course you should always backup first and only you are responsible for what you do to your device.
1. Ensure you are rooted. From this point on, grant all superuser requests.
2. Download ViPER4Android FX. Get the latest version under the "Android FX" heading.
3. Extract the 4.x .apk from the zip. If you haven't already, smart-install Busybox from the play store.
4. Move the 4.x .apk to root system/app using a root-friendly file browser of your choice. Reboot to reset permissions.
5. Launch the app (from your app drawer). Grant root to let it install drivers. I've always gone with super audio quality; I suppose it's up to you. It may ask you if it can modify some files to disable power saving...just let it happen. :good: Reboot again.
6. Go straight to settings/sound/music effects (at the bottom) and toggle Viper4Android as default.
7. Open root system/build.prop using a file explorer and text editor with root access. You change three lines of code as follows. Some may already have been changed.
Code:
Ipa.decode=true should read Ipa.decode=false
tunnel.decode=true to tunnel.decode=false
lpa.use-stagefright=true to lpa.use-stagefright=false
8. Save the file and reboot once more. Open the Viper4Android app and have at the sound settings; play around until you find what works for you (just make sure to check "Enable" :highfive. You can edit the settings as you have music playing. When you get it where you want it, toggle the enable button and see how far you've come.
You can explore the main app thread here for some ideas on customization.
All credit due to @viper520, @zhuhang, and @docnok63.
All I did was paraphrase. Hope this helps someone!
Mine still doesn't work D: followed these instructions exact I'm not sure where I'm going wrong.
EDIT: Does work, just doesn't work in the default Samsung galaxy music app.

I have not been able to get this to work with the stock app on any version of KK but it works fine with Poweramp. Just have all EQ and processors in Poweramp turned off and in Poweramp settings/audio/advanced tweaks make sure everything is unchecked.

WOW...it works here for me. At first it didn't. I looked for updates and it offered v2.3.3.0 Installed that and it's really noticeable with my ear buds. This is with Google music player. I have PowerAmp premium too. Have not tested on that but it for sure works with the latest APK I referenced and it is installed as a system app. One of those build.prop edits was already set while the other two needed to be changed, just an FYI. If you aren't on the latest APK, update. I am on the latest update of Alliance ROM here on my T Mobile S5 variant....fyi.
Hi guys can someone tell me what to do if i cant find the build.prop stated above on my device?

It's in system folder. You need to use an appropriate method of editing that allows you to change from read only to read write. Also for me you have to be running 2.3.3.0 version of Viper. And finally, at least for me, I set this up and it runs until I also use the app Poweramp. Seems as soon as I use PowerAmp with the equalizer on, it breaks the functionality within 2 seconds of starting any song. If you use the menu function while running the Viper app, look at driver staus which not only shows the version but if you are running a song it will say yes to processing which verifies the app is running. (build prop editor by JRummy Apps in Playstore is free and works great) (Of course Root Explorer is my all time favorite, paid app that has a ton of functions, including editing)
So it didn't work for me, unless deleted the mod and installed everything from scratch as a normal app instead of a system one. To make it work with Poweramp, had to enable " compatible mode", add "music fx" button to "tone/vol" screen and turn it on. Now it works.
Anyone here having trouble with signal after flashing this mod?
Or is it just me

Awesome! Trying this out soon.
Here the sound is much better.
However commands double and triple clicks in the headset no longer work with the Power Amp.
This happened to anyone else?

Sorry for my poor english. What I meant is that my S5 was only rooted and the rest is all as it came from the factory.
But after a while the controls on the headset started to function normally. Thank you.
thanks, what a difference...waow !!
No one get music stuttering when screen off???
Its very annoying.
Hey, I can't get it to stick. It keeps asking to install the driver. My rom is "Project Infinity". I tried to move it to system/app but it says it's read only. I have busy bus installed. I don't know what to do, can someone please help me?
If you use the Android app called WearMedia you can push Mp3 and Ogg files to your watch to use as custom ringtones. Be sure to set your default upload directory to Ringtones on the watch tab, then choose the audio file you wish to push to your device. Once it is sent, restart your watch. After restarting your watch, go to Settings>Sound>Watch ringtone>choose your newly uploaded ringtone here. Hope this helps some of you.
Edit for less confusion:
To clarify, for less confusion, the ringtone choice is the 4th (last) option within the Sound setting. Be sure you choose your new ringtone within this menu and not to leave it set to Vibrate only. [emoji6]

Yes. I even tried uploading them to the notification folder, still a no go. I updated to MM on Thursday night, don't know if that has anything to do with it.

It shouldn't. I'll do a step by step video here shortly of exactly what I do. Maybe were doing something differently.

Ok.
Edit:
Got it figured out. It was the last option. It was set on vibrate and I did not realize it was an actual setting for anything other than setting the type of vibration. You might not in your directions that it is bottom or 4th option under sound. Thanks for the find.
So using Wear Media, I also see watch folders for Alarms and Notifications....I can obviously add audio files to them both, but does anyone know of a way to select my custom sounds as the native watch system doesn't support selection.
Thanks,
Coz

I also want the watch to sound for notications also without it vibrating. Looks like it only supports the ringtone.

Might need 3rd party support. Quick for wear supports that, but only for some apps.

I've done a lot of playing around with this and so far the only option I can think would be to do a system dump to find out the default filename die the notification/alarm tones and replacing them with adb. Still doesn't fix the fact that most notifications only come through as vibrations though. [emoji19]

I set the custom ringtone. Tried both MP3 and OGG. When I set them, they play nothing, except in the preview of what the tone sounds like. When someone calls, nothing plays, when using the custom tone. If I use one of the default ones, it works fine. I restarted both my phone and my watch, a few times.
I have yet to figure this out. Maybe there is a way to use adb to push the ringtone to the default folder where the ringtones are located. Anyone have an ideas?
