Edit: Got it working. Thanks for all the help
Need some help. I've been trying to S-off my Max but I'm unable to. I've tried Firewater and I get no error. It just says opening bottle 1, chugging, then goes right back to command line.
Rumrunner gives me an error about extracting files. I have everything setup in my platform tools folder.
I am on Hboot 2.46, Sprint Max. I'm unlocked by htcdev, rooted, and twrp recovery installed. I really need to figure out how to s-off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are you sure you have the correct drivers installed completely? When I did it I hit problems and it turned out that my drivers were not installed completely.

I installed htc sync manager, got the drivers from there because adb wasn't recognizing the device, once it was recognized, i uninstalled htc sync manager like the instructions for firewater and rumrunner say, went through the firewater instructions and nothing. I then tried rumrunner and get the error.
I installed HTC sync and left it installed, just disabled it once I plugged into the usb. Then I ran through the rumrunner forum. Beyond that, I really can't say since I'm not a dev or a programmer.

Yes. I just had to stop putting the rumrunner files in the platform tools folder. Made an s-off folder, then put platform tools and rumrunner folders in it and it worked like a charm.
Version of windows?
After verifying that fastboot and adb worked properly, I just followed the
section for stock, locked devices, like Verizon's.
push temproot, push firewater,
adb shell
chmod 755 both files
run the temproot file (takes a long time)
run firewater, everything worked.

Make sure you have the latest HTC driver installed. Use a USB 2.0 port, make sure that HTC Sync is not installed on your computer, and that your computer antivirus is off.
You can get the latest driver in the link below. Use the HTC driver from post #2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179776
Also, it may take a few attempts before Moonshine is successful. On the phone I recently Moonshined, it took a few tries before it succeeded, and I had everything set up correctly.

I've been running into the same issues! It keeps getting stuck on the second step! I've been following all your suggestions you posted in my other thread as well. At least it got me to the second step in Moonshine.
All HTC drivers were removed and the new ones were reinstalled. Computer and phone rebooted, USB 2.0 port, etc... I even went to another PC and ran into the same problems. I'll try it some more since you said it took a few tries.
Edit: Now it won't establish a connection to complete the first step in fastboot even though the PC keeps making sounds when fastboot USB gets turned on

Does anyone know how to run RabiesShot without Ubuntu?

You have to use a live CD with Dirty Racun if you are running Windows. To answer your second question, no, you can't use terminal emulator on your phone, either. Please be careful with what you're doing, otherwise you risk having an expensive paperweight in your hand. Personally I would have gone the Moonshine route It's Windows friendly and you don't have to fool with any commands, other then checking device connection with ADB & fastboot.

Yeah I know. I'm being really careful with everything - reading up before I do ANYTHING. I've done this to several phones before, but never had this much trouble...
Do you know if it's possible to still use Moonshine at this point? I've gone through every single step for DirtyRacun except for #14 which is to run RabiesShot. I have the RUU for 3.15 HBOOT 2.09 installed and running fine right now. If I can use Moonshine (and actually get it to connect to the device now), I would rather do that.

Make sure you're doing a full system wipe in recovery prior to flashing the ROM. You also might want to try opening a command prompt in your ADB tools folder while in the bootloader and type the command "fastboot erase cache" (minus quotation marks) and hit enter. Make sure you're connected via fastboot USB first.

refer to my s-off guide here in the rezound q&a forums...the windows version.which im assuming your trying to use was ONLY meant for ICS and was removed because the windows version hard bricked one too many devices
Edit: as you are on gingerbread that too was produced by verizon and htc....same as pure stock ics....you can also get a non verizon sense based ics rom on here which runs much better than verizons gingerbread or ics
You think it would be easier to s-off with or without taking the OTA update?

You don't really have a choice here... You have Amon Ra (a custom recovery) so even if you take the OTA it won't install, OTA updates require a stock recovery.
The Windows S-OFF method will only work with ICS (there was no GB version), so you could install the 3.14.605.12 RUU first (this will give you a stable ICS version installed), but with the messages you are getting it sounds like you have a driver or USB issue, or perhaps Fastboot enabled (not the same as fastboot from the bootloader) or USB Debugging not turned on.
Be very cautious with the Windows ControlBear, @REV3NT3CH is correct, it was removed because it bricked a lot of phones, it was never stable... it works for most people, but there are circumstances that if put together correctly will brick you device permanently. You could try the Linux method, it is the only official way and there is a GB version on http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear.htm that will work with your device.
TBH, I'd not even bother. I'd look into seeing why ADB/Fastboot doesn't work right. First I'd uninstall HTC Sync (should have been called HTC Stync LOL).

Okay, well, here is where I get confused. When I s-off'd 2 years ago it was on gingerbread and I still have the old juopunutbear program so in theory everything should be the same. To my knowledge, I can't figure out a way to toggle debugging on GB. Oh, can anyone link me to (literally) from start to finish, every single download I will need to successfully s-off given the specs that I've provided that I'm working with? I would appreciate it more than you know because I must be doing something wrong. Thanks!!

Would it be okay if I were to dualboot a Linux image on my Windows PC to perform S-OFF? There wouldn't be any command errors or extra precautions, right?

yes its ok to dualboot...thats my setup and works fine...i suggest using 32 bit version of linux as that is what is recommended....my guide on here gives perfect step by step instructions for it
I think(needs clarification) you have to fastboot flash boot.img, boot back into rom and try again.

try a different wire....ive seen a few rezounds where its gotten stuck on jpbear arrow screen and renders it permanently BRICKED
Edit: again this only happens on windows....should of followed my guide bud
I will be honest, I have used the Windows utility every time, it hasn't failed me yet, once I have gotten to that point and the wire trick failed, it should continue to prompt you to do the trick or tell you what to do... Just run ControlBear again, it should take you to the point where you do the wire trick again, if not, look at the ControlBear Troubleshooting page on unlimited.io

Actually, you are almost there... if you are stuck in Fastboot, try this from step #2, remember you are in Windows, so you might have to copy files into and issue the commands from the appropriate directory instead of using "sudo":
There are three ways to recover your ROM. Try each one in until you succeed:
Open the cmd prompt that is located in your ControlBear folder where you unzipped all of the files.
Type the following cmds into the cmd prompt.
1. ControlBear -r (This is run with the phone at the JuopunutBear/Arrow screen) If this succeeds recovery is complete otherwise continue to Step 2.
2. ControlBear -f (This is run with the phone at the fastboot screen). If this succeeds you're done otherwise continue to Step 3.
3. fastboot flash boot boot_backup.img
4. fastboot flash recovery recovery_backup.img (This is done with the phone in fastboot mode) If this succeeds continue to Step 5.
5. Boot the phone to android and install busybox from the market if not already installed.
6. sudo ./adb push sdcard.img /data/local/tmp/
7. sudo ./adb shell
8. $ su
9. # busybox dd if=/data/local/tmp/sdcard.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk1 conv=notrunc
10. Reboot the phone.

I've been struggling with ADB for the past week or so, and have been unable to see my HTC One X+ no matter what I've tried. Then I decided to install Ubuntu using VirtualBox and voila, It can see my device using the same computer with no problem. I ran an ADB restart just to make sure and it worked. Can anyone tell me why this is and hopefully tell me how to fix it?
This all started when I tried to run an RUU and it couldn't find my phone. RUU's don't run on Linux, so this doesn't solve my problem, just seems to point at Win7 being the issue.
P.S. I've had 5 Android devices, all 5 have successfully connected with ADB on this same computer in the past. I've installed custom ROMs on all of them and have used ADB quite a bit over the past few years. I'm not sure what changed in the past year since I last used ADB that now causes it to not see my device.
Just noticed that I can see the phone in the bootloader using "fastboot devices"... even more confused now!
Well you only need fastboot for an ruu so your good there, maybe you need to setup a path in environmental variables for adb or uninstall and reinstall drivers

The path is already there, the commands work, just no device to send them to. Already tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers and the Android SDK.
Not sure how I can use fastboot for the RUU though... I've tried running it from the Windows desktop and it can't find the device. I did try running it while in the bootloader and it starts the process but always fails within about 3 minutes with an Unknown Error.
The only way you can flash an ruu is through fastboot
Also remember fastboot only works in bootloader and adb only works in os and recovery
Maybe post the entire input/output from cmd/terminal here when you run the ruu

The RUU file I downloaded from HTC is an EXE file. How do you run that in fastboot?
I know that ADB doesn't work in the bootloader, but on my computer it isn't working in Recovery or in the OS.
Still best guess is wrong drivers but at this point it really doesn't matter as you can only use fastboot anyhow
The .exe is supposed to walk you through the steps, what happens when you click on it?
Can you extract the contents and do it manually?
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip nameofupdate.zip

When I run the RUU file in Windows it tries and fails to connect to the phone. I will do some research on extracting the necessary files from the RUU and manually flashing. Thanks for the help.
Finally fixed using these steps!
Simple as the title.
Was following this and downloaded Revolutionary beta by putting in my info.
My device (HTC Thunderbolt) is found, but I get this:
Zerging Root... this might take a minute or so.. Failed to get Root!
Press (almost) any key to exit.
I did a factory reset prior to this and I have my SIM card removed. I am wanted to root my device to use it as a programmable device. Unfortunately I can not even get past this first step:crying:
I am seeing something about zerg exploit no long works but I really do not know what this means. Is the guide I am following which is a sticky wrong and should not be promoting Revolutionary?
Is there a simple guide to get me root access and update the OS?
If your thunderbolt is on the official ICS ota you won't be able to use revolutionary to get root. There is a guide at infectedrom.com that can help you get root if you are on the official ICS.

Yeah I have never rooted it or anything so it would be stock. It has been dormant for about a year so I am not sure what OS it would have been upped to but it is currently at Android 2.3.4
I went to infectedrom but I do not see anything. In fact I see absolutely no threads inside the Thunderbolt listings.
Seems like a dead community
You have to register I'm pretty sure to see the threads. If you're on 2.3.4 and you're sure of it you need to make sure you have the proper version of revolutionary for your hboot version. You also need to make sure you uninstall any HTC drivers from your PC and use the drivers they provide. Sometimes disabling antivirus helps during the process and make sure to give the command prompt administration rights before you use it. If that doesn't work try a different USB cable or USB port on your PC.

So Are you implying I can use Revolutionary?

Hello all, I've just recently recovered my DNA back to stock from a botched ROM install on the 3.06 software. Prior to running the RUU, I used Rumrunner to unlock my bootloader to put CWM on as my recovery. Then I had to re-lock it to run the RUU. Now I'm stuck at re-unlocking it. The HTCdev site is giving me a MID not allowed error and I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact that I used Rumrunner? Call me stupid, the DNA is still relatively new to me. Thank you!!
You shouldn't need to relock it to RUU. The RUU will overwrite your recovery with stock but the bootloader should remain unlocked (and s-off if you did that as well). At this point you should be able to just run rumrunner again to unlock the bootloader and then you can flash a custom recovery and go from there.

Tried doing Rumrunner again, Getting this error, "ERROR: run rumrunner again and READ (no adb connection to device. Debugging on?
Drivers?)" I've uninstalled the drivers via device manager, let windows 7 reinstall them and installed/uninstalled HTCsync with no luck.
Edit: Nevermind, tried a different cable. Hate it when that happens.
Edit 2: Rumrunner must have failed, device still relocked.

Does 'adb devices' show your serial number? Did you enable debugging in the developer options?

I don't even see ADB devices in device manager. Just Android USB Devices.

ADB Devices is a command issued from the command prompt. It should return the S/N of the device connected. If there is no response the drivers are not installed on the PC. If you are using Win 8 or 8.1 you will have issues

Not too familiar with running that command. I'm new to the whole HTC scene. My Note 2 was significantly easier to work with in this respect.

Hı, have you find out a solution to this one ?
I am struggling with a similar situation:

I did, sorry for not posting it here. I went and got a new cable from tiger direct and tried again. For some reason, the bootloader still says relocked but I have root access. I don't feel confident enough to try and see if CWM or TWRP and I don't want to go through the RUU garbage again. Shoot me a PM and I'll tell you everything what not to do. LOL

I have heard if you flash a new hboot the relocked text will go away, but I haven't had this issue myself so I can't personally confirm it. I do recommend updating your hboot and radio, though, for other reasons like better radio signal.

Updating the hboot and radio seems a little daunting. Definitely something I want to look in to once I can figure out how to get a ROM on this without calling a mulligan and starting from scratch again.

Adb is universal to all android devices, I highly recommend getting used to it if you plan on rooting future devices, the only thing native to HTC is the S-OFF portion of eMMC

Are you S-OFF? If so issue this command in fastboot:
fastboot oem writecid 22222222
Go to htcdev.com and then it will allow you to unlock the bootloader also make sure you have 8 2's in the command.
