Yes however make sure you insert the Sim correctly. Also the cell phone signal on the watch is poor, so you might want to make sure that you are in a good reception area too. Mine works only when I am outside of buildings and house.

It wont even recognized the sim chip, when I look in them sim menus its grayed out.. and I know the sim works I used the same sim from my nexus 5 which is straighttalk.. I think my omate might be faulty..
Page 29 of the manual shows how the SIM is to be inserted. The manual can be found in the "[INFO] Everything......" thread at the very top is this forum. This has alos been covered in multiple threads here as well as the G+ TrueSmart communities
Straight Talk APN's are not in the stock firmware. The correct apns are however in the Patch/MOD and have been for some time. I know because I'm on Straight talk on one TS and T-Mo one the other. If you have not applied the patch then I strongly suggest that you do.

T-Mobile works great too. Went there for a prepaid plan today. $10 for the micro sim, and then choose your plan. Since I plan to use it very little on cellular, both the $3/day plan for unlimited everything, or $30/month for unlimited web and text, and 100 minutes, both look good for this device. Good strong signal and even works here inside my house.

So they just charge you $3 for each day you use it so if you use the watch 5 days out of a month they will only charge you $15?

Yup. I leave it on Airplane Mode, so it isn't drawing any data. You can still turn on wifi in this mode & use that. $3/day gives unlimited minutes, data and text for that day.
The other option is $30/month for unlimited data & text & 100 minutes.
This is all on T-Mobile's prepaid service.

I didn't have to. I live in Cincinnati, OH. I walked into the store and told them what I wanted to do. They were fine with it. Prepaid plans is where it's listed, and it shows up in their computer system. Paid for the card and put $50 into my prepaid account. Punched my IMEI into their system. They called customer care to make sure it was setup correctly. Done.
This $30 prepaid plan from T-Mobile is what I use in my TrueSmart. It provides 5gigs of high speed data (which includes LTE on my Nexus5, but only 3G H max on the TS), then drops to unlimited Edge I think. Hard to run through 5gigs to test.
This used to be known as the Walmart Plan, but is now available via the T-Mobile website somewhere. The $3 per day plan might be better if you need a lot of talk time. My particular TS works great as a phone - no voice quality issues either end.

I did not need to have my TrueSmart imei recorded by T-Mobile. I took my already activated sim out of my Nexus4 and inserted it into my TS and it started working fine immediately.

Okay so I have been reading about AT&T prepaid with the Note.
So basically all I need to do is buy this phone
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/packages/packages-details.jsp?q_package=sku5330250
then pop the sim in the Note and set the APN to what the sticky shows and WIN! correct? Once everything works then just call up and have my number ported over from Sprint to the prepaid?
TIA

Yeah but I'm buying the international Note not the AT&T Note.

If you want to get unbelievably slow data speeds, then yes that is exactly what you want to do. Sorry but I would never buy a phone at full price only to cripple it with 1-3mb download speeds (if you even get that with a gophone plan) This will also render the gps practically useless.
People confuse me.

1-3 mbps is quite nice if you can get that on AT&T. But I disagree with GPS useless part. I routinely use my GS2 for GPS navigation. And it has no problem when travel through some areas that are 2G only. In fact, with Google Nav, once the route is caculated, you can turn the data off and your navigation still works because the map data along the route is pre-cached.

Go phone or pre-paid plans are heavily throttled by AT&T. You won't be able to get the full speed.

Interesting about the GPS. I did not know that, but thats a good thing. Sorry I just think 1-3 is a joke for a smart phone. I regularly get 8-12 with my h+ on my skyrocket and have seen 50+ on LTE with the skyrocket. Some may say you don't need it but its certainly nice to have when pulling up web pages and downloading stuff. Streaming is also seamless, where I had problems with my i4 streaming pandora
Well this is what I get all the time with Sprint. So almost anything could beat that and my gps works fine...At home and work im on wifi anyway but those speeds arent hard to beat really.

That was at my house which doesn't get the best reception in the world. I guess if you're coming from those speeds with sprint you'll be fine.

Yes that certainly changes things lol I would post your question in the int note section, as most of us on this forum will be getting the ATT one and not using a prepaid plan (I assume)
I dont see why gophone is heavily throttled. You use what you pay for and if you go over, the line gets cut until you reload your account.

I dont think that its necesarily heavily throttled its just that the data plan you are using is one that is not capable of good speeds. The data plan for the phone the OP linked is not even 3g

IIRC, there is unlimited data plan for GoPhone.
The throttle part is from posts here by an AT&T employee. And I believe him because for the limited bandwidth AT&T has so far, GoPhone should be on the lowest prority for bandwidth allocation
Yes you could do this. If certain conditions are met. First, the Note must be an unlocked version that can be used anywhere. 2nd, and this is the biggest one, AT&T allows the phone to be used on a pre-paid plan.
The reason for this comment is simple. AT&T knows what phones attached to which SIM Cards. I can bet you the cost of a plan that AT&T will notify you that you can not use a Smart Phone on the GoPhone SIM and Plan. AT&T has no GoPhone's that are Smart Phones. So once they see that you have a Smart Phone, especially one like the Note, attached to a GoPhone SIM, they will throw a fit. They will want their money from that Data Plan.
Not to mention, the GoPhone Plans suck. The amount of money you will spend will equal out to what it will cost you on a contract plan. Especially if you are a heavy texter/data user.

First, the international notes imei is not in ATTs system so they would have no idea what phone is on the plan. Second, all you do is activate the go phone with unlimited nonsmartphone data plan on the gophone with supplied sim, swap some into note and configure correct apn settings so that the note can get on ATTs data network. Third and unrelated, there are gophone smartphones like the thrive and new one which I forget the real name but model is the frog. All the instructions on using gophone plans with international notes are in the other forum

There are go phones that are smart phones, but they require seperate, and really expensive, data plans on top of the go phone minutes. Not that it really counters your main point, but it's more of an FYI.
The guy in the att store never switched my unlimited plan from a 3g unlimited to 4g unlimited. The last couple days my data has been so slow. Facebook loads and stuff but xda app sometimes takes forever to load like im on Edge or something. If i go into the browser and go to www.google.com sometimes it just wont load. Phone shows 4 bars of 3g and the lines are indicating data being sent but it never loads. 3g in my area was super fast with my iphone. Speedtest shows 1mbit at first and drops down to like. .87mbit by the time the test is done.
Any ideas?

Uh, either go back to the store and have them switch you to the 4G unlimited, or log into your account online and switch it, or call up customer service and have them switch it. The sales rep you bought it from is stupid for not doing so when you bought it. My guess as to why you are getting such slow speeds is that you are getting throttled. How much data do you normally use/have you used this bill cycle? If you are getting throttled, then switching to the new LTE unlimited plan should reset your throttling hopefully, but as soon as you reach around 2gb of data, expect to be throttled again.

Current billing cycle only shows 1345mb. So i shouldnt be getting throttled. The data does work though most of the time. So. I still need to switch it to the 4g? I dont know much about the service side of Att. I just figured if it worked it was fine.

It would still be good to make sure you have the LTE sim card, and that you get upgraded to the LTE unlimited plan, even if you don't have 4G yet. It will still allow you to use 3G just fine.
I have a 3G unlimited plan and they tried to get me to change to a 4G plan but says they have no unlimited, ugh, come to find out all I had to do was get a LTE sim card & the store rep added the 4G code and voila magic, 4G without needing to change my plan
There is no such thing as a LTE sim. Its the data plan on your account that makes the difference. There are 3G, 4g and 4G LTE plans. If you have any data at all your on a correct plan. I have never seen a non LTE data plan work on a LTE phone. I have a Note on an unlimited LTE plan. Don't let bad reps lie.

There are. The blue / white SIM cards do not officially support LTE. They should still work for call etc, but data may not work properly.
And yes, data does need to be re provisioned under "unlimited LTE"

Just go into any AT&T store and ask for a new SIM card. ALL the new ones are LTE compatible.
SIM cards are free too. Just have the rep do an equipment change to your new IMEI / SIM. You'll keep your unlimited data, you get your new free SIM which will work just fine on LTE, and your data count will be reset for that billing cycle.
dial *3282# and you'll see the old deactivated HSPA+ data plan next to your fresh LTE plan. This is also one of the ways to remove throttling. More details on THAT can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517663

A lot of good info here. I do have a question though. I dialed *3282# and this is message I received back:
Next Bill Cycle: 03/02/2012
Data (MB): 720.6 of Unlimited (Deactivated)
Data (MB): 107.8 of Unlimited
Messaging: 6373 of Unlimited
Visit us online at www.att.com/DataPlans
So, besides the fact that I apparently send an exorbitant amount of text messages, I can assume the first Data line is the previous 3G unlimited plan, so does that make the second the LTE plan?
Also, you mentioned the color of sim cards. Mine is Blue/Orange/White on the front and orange on the back. Is this the one I need or do I still need to go into the store?
Thanks for all the info you've passed along so far.

What happened was, I talked about how I couldn't wait until March 15th so I could upgrade to the Note. My wife happened to be at the mall and stopped by one of those AT&T Kiosks and somehow convinced the guy to let her get upgrade early. I tried the same thing at AT&T store and they wouldn't do it. So she paid for the phone and brought it home. I took it out of the box, put my sim card in it and voila.
Not sure if that counts as a cross upgrade or not, lol.

Yes, it is because your account didn't get properly provisioned to use LTE data, your wife's account did. Call AT&T to have your account/data plan changed to LTE unlimited. It's that simple.
This. We went through al of it when the skyrocket released trust me. We have found the sim makes no difference unless its a really really old sim...but the provisioning is key

I'm going home this weekend and then am going on spring break to the beach for the next week. I'm going to go to the ATT store this weekend and grab a note if they have it and if I like it. But there's no way in hell i'm risking losing it/breaking it/ getting sand in it the first week I have it. Is there any reason I won't be able to just switch my sim cards back and forth between my ATT focus and the note? Basically i want to be able to just take my focus if i'm leaving the hotel.
Thanks!
No reason at all.

Does NOT work the other way around though. I put the SIM from my Galaxy S2 in the Note and I could not get a data connection. I had to call and get the IMEI changed on my account and a LTE data plan added.
I think it has less to do with the sim or data plan associated with that sim, than the IMEI. I bought my daughter a H+ phone in September and it wouldn't take my old sim even though it worked in my own H+ phone with a 3G data plan. Never tried calling to change the IMEI to get it to work, but that is the only variable that would explain the problem.
Plus there are many others around here that have transferred their unlimited 3G data plan to their Note.
yeah i have a simple 200mb data plan if it makes a difference.
I had two issues.... This was coming from a SIM originally in a 3gs, moved to an Atrix, to a Focus and into a Nite this past weekend:
1) make sure you have an LTE compatible SIM. I still had an old 3g card from my 3gs. If your SIGhs a 2 and 5 in the 9th and 10th digit, you're good.
2) If you have the grandfathered unlimited data plan, you will need to go to a corp store to set your data plan up for LTE. You won't have data if just simply swapping. 5 separate phone reps couldnt do it without possibly ruining my grandfathers data. Walked into a corp store and they got got me hooked up in 5 minutes.

i have a number on the front of my sim, and on the back 'read' side. one has 21 as the 9/10 the back has 22 as 9 and 10.
I'm looking on the website now and I'm getting a bit confused and wondering if they changed their plans. Is the 200mb plan gone and now replaced by a $20 300mb plan? It says if I change my plan I won't be able to go back to the 200mb. I'm assuming this is the same as those grandfathered in with the unlimited? I.E. I can keep it at the same rate as long as I don't change it?
And what about 4g/lte/etc. I thought those were upcharges for the faster services. Is this not the case?
I'm thinking it sounds like I'm going to need a new sim card probably?
My 3g card had 2/1 in the 9/10 positions.
Att did change there plans recently. They upper them amount of data per month for everyone, including raising the throttle caps for those of us on the golden unlimited plan, 3GB for 3g plans and 5GB on LTE plans. Those entries you see online aren't upsells, i think you saw the checker for Visual Voicemail for Android LTE devices, which was a free addon.

I live in Michigan and out in the country on a lake where reception isn't that great as it is but it's still functional. I want to know if I should use the TMO Sim or the ATT Sim they offer. I already have a Tmo sim I can activate but if I do and the service sucks they said I need to change my number to get the att sim switched in. My question is will it give me any insight into my possible reception if I put in the sim b4 activating it and drive around? Bc it seems to show bars for awhile then just drop off and say no service after awhile for about 10mins then it comes in and out intermittently. Any insight is appreciated thank you!!
On another note I heard about some att /Tmo roaming agreement? If I could roam atts voice service all should be well right? Or is that not for mvno carriers? I really like my number or else I'd take the chance!

I use my amaze with tmo sim on striaght talk and it works perfect! Everything is working great. I have awesome reception. 4g works great and I can tether my tablets and laptop all for 45 bucks a month. Took a lil while to get the apn settings right for everything to work because straight was telling the wrong settings but I got it right now and its awesome!

We all know those coverage maps don't mean jack lmfao. Hey gamble what are your apn settings so I can try them out and see how it goes. It has decent service with the unactivated sim card but keeps kicking to "no service" not sure if this is just from not being activated or the service is spotty.

Is there a data cap on strait talk? Also how are the 4G speeds on strait talk compared to the 4G on tmobile. I was going to switch to Metro PCs just to save money. I am getting tired of paying 210 dollars for 3 lines.

Consider looking into Walmarts T-mobile Prepaid 4G plan if the Straight Talk doesn't have good coverage.
$30 for 100 minutes, and unlimited text and data (5GIG of 4G data).
If you prepaid it with credit card, you get $5 off making it $25.
I love the plan, and only ONCE have gone over the 5G of data. Speeds average 2-6MB, and with good coverage up to 15-20MBps

What do you mean by prepay with credit card to get $5 off?

I thought straight talk piggy backed right off of AT&T so wherever AT&T customers get coverage you would get coverage?

I've heard there was a cap but I use a lot of data and have never had any problems. And speed wise I cannot see a difference from tmo.

Lg Mytouch on ST?
This sounds very interesting. We own our phones, One Amaze one LG MyTouch (wifes).
Wonder if the lg would work on Straight talk?
Is Straight talk 4g service "LTE" ?
thinking of switching from simple mobile... do any of you guys have issues with throttling? simple mobile throttles same as t-mo does after 2GB... also, what SIM card do I need for it to work? I have an old at&t SIM and a couple old T-Mo SIMs... do they require you to use one of theirs? If so, where do you get it? I went by my local wally world and they only sold the stupid phones and re-up cards, no SIMs and the person that was available was zero help... any info would be GREATLY appreciated... I'm not too worried about the speed difference, I'm in a large metro area, so I'm sure it won't be a huge difference whether I use t-mo or at&t...
ok, well I found the SIM on their site, ordered it, got free shipping... will purchase the unlimited plan when I receive the SIM and will report back with some comparison (to SimpleMobile) photos... I just went the "unlocked GSM phone" route instead of choosing one or the other, which I guess means it's equivalent of going the att route...

Yeah..i did the same thing. Supposedly they pick best SIM for your area. I say if you know what phone you have and what service is better in your area, just pick it instead of letting them. I ended up with ATT and signal was horrible at my house, dropped calls all the time. So i recently swapped over to ST TMO SIM and it's been amazing. I had verizon and it was terrible (at my house), sprint was the worst, no signal whatsoever. I don't live out in the country or anything either. It's like a dead spot just at my house, my brother lives down one block from me and has verizon and is great for him.
Anyhow...ST TMO with a Samsung Galaxy Blaze gets 10MB/s down and 1MB/s up. Download speeds faster then my home ISP.
Only had ST TMO for a week and it's been alot better then ATT for me. So it will be trial and error. Whatever fits best for you, but what's good about it is that SIM card is only $15 if you have to try the other one.
Good luck!

I just bought the Tmo SIM, the ATT service was horrible (Orlando, FL) dropped more calls this month than I have in the last 3yrs... absolute SHYTE!!! FU ATT!!! soooooo happy that "merger" failed hard on it's face!!!
Just my two cents hope this clarifies st just pays Atat and t-mobile to use there network, servers etc. They can't alter it ie. Roaming agreements. So if you have.both sims try them both to see which works better t-mobile still gives 4g I don't think Atat can on st. Also ive changed a number from a phone to a sim while it was activated.

Important: When you buy a ST sim card you will have a choice between at&t or t-mobile networks.
http://www.straighttalk.com/shopsims
If you chose.. "Unlocked GSM Phone (Phone must operate in 850 and 1900 MHz bands)" this is the at&t network card.
If you chose.. "T-Mobile Compatible Phone" this is the t-mobile network card.
You can buy both cards and switch networks without losing your minutes or being charged for switching networks. In the your ST control panel both cards (after registration) will be listed as available options.
Hi all,
I'm vacationing with my family to Disney Paris and T-Mobile has a nifty feature of unlimited data and texting in foreign countries included in my plan.
Awesome!
Unfortunately the data is only 2G. Makes it impossible to use GPS. Surf the web or send pictures attached to a text.
Is there a mod that can bump that back up to 4G?
Thanks,
NJ

That's the reason why it's free
GPS should work fine though. You can pay to get 4G data, but it's so expensive for so little data, I wouldn't bother. Try looking for free wifi hotspots.

Go to your T-mobile account and buy a one week 200 MB data for $25 (or 2 weeks 500 MB for $50). This is fast data, the free one is 2G only.
The best data prices when traveling abroad usually entail getting a local SIM card. Prepaid or sometimes a regular (cancel anytime) plan. For example, the last time that I looked SFR France had a 1 GB data plan (3G+) for 8 Euro.

Totally forgot about this. OP, do this. Europe is so much cheaper than here for cell service, you can get something that will cover you for an entire month for about $10. You do have to make sure that your phone is unlocked though. If it isn't and you've had the phone for more than 40 days on the same tmobile account, you can ask mobile to give you the unlock code. If you haven't had it for more than 40 days, then you can just pay for one online.

That is exactly what is supposed to happen. Your connection may range from 2G through LTE when roaming internationally, however on the "free" plan you will be capped at 128kbps. Which isn't great, but it is fine for email, light web-lookups, most apps even skype calls!
You are lucky that the S5 worked out of the box. I was in London last week on an LG G3 and it took hours of fiddling with the APNs to get the damn phone to roam over there. So much of a hassle to have to find the perfect combination of mobile network/APN, that I just gave up and traded for an S5. I'm hoping that like my old iPhone 5s the data will just plain work without any fiddling.
T-mobile's free data plan may sound slow, but compared to roaming plans that existed before, this is the best thing since sliced bread! Imagine landing in a foreign country and immediately having working data...without having to hunt for a local SIM? Priceless. For folks who travel to many foreign destinations for short times, this is perfect.

I agree with your statement that the Tmo roaming works right out of the box, no fiddling. Where I go in the Caribbean, you step off the plane and everything just works (slowly).
