[Q] Media streaming/sync via cloud ??? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone here!
Thinking about having Z2.Never had Sony mobile before.
So I need some info HOW Media content (music, video, pictures) streaming/sync works on Sony mobiles (Walkman or something else)?
Does Sony offer something like Google`s Play Music service, which I am currently and happily using for having while on the move all my Media files from my PC to my mobile without the need to transfer any of them manually?
I am asking if SONY has something similar on their own for their Experia mobiles?
Thanks in advance!

You'll be able to continue using Google Play Music on the Z2 if you want. Sony does have their own Walkman service, but I don't know how it works. My guess is that Google's is better and you will want to continue using it.

[Q] DLNA and a non-VAiO System

Omg, Is there any way to use the Windows Home Server ( WMC ) with this tablet?
I am able to connect from tablet to pc I can play the music I have stored on my harddisk so thats not the problem but I don't see my tablet quite frustrating,
Because my pc doesn't have the VAiO Server it isn't able to stream music by one click also my XBOX360 can not be used in that order,
PS3 - yes ofcourse that works for me vice versa Duuh Sony system.
Sony Experia S - Again no problem again duuh Sony system.
Samsung Galaxy S2 - a little weird but it is working but not worth it.
Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1v - Not working but thats not necessary.
I am not an idiot I know what I am doing, but this just seems to be unaccesable
From Normal Windows 7 64x Home server Pc to VAiO Server Sony Tabet S
I know it sounds rediculous to connect Sony with Microsoft but after all a VAiO Laptop does run on Windows to
This is getting annoying >> Please dont mind my English

I'm honestly not sure what's going on since I'd never even heard of Vaio server. To provide an overview that might help:
DLNA is a universal protocol implemented by many modern products and is not a Sony-specific thing (although Sony had a big part in designing it). When using DLNA, a device is usually considered a server, player (aka renderer) or controller but many devices combine these roles. For example, the Sony is both a renderer (when using the DNLA app) and a server (when using the Music app's Throw function for example).
What I think you were saying is that you can't play the media stored on your tablet from your WMC. If this is the case, it's because the Tablet S's DLNA implementation is on-demand. From the device, you need to open a video or song in Sony's Video Player or Music app, and then choose the Throw option. From there, any of your DLNA renderers on the network should appear as an option. If you want to be able to browse your Tablet's content and play media directly, try installing something like iMediaShare on your Tablet.
Windows support for DLNA is a bit shaky. Windows Media Player 11 can act as a server but requires configuration for each device you want to play to. Your best bet is to install a third-party DLNA-compliant server (such as PS3 Media Server, TVersity or similar) on your WMC, then it should appear as a server in your Tablet S's DLNA application.
If you could try and be a little clearer as to what exactly wasn't working and what you're trying I should be able to help out a bit more.
Yes I tought a VAiO Server was nessasary but it aint or should i say there isn't any,
I think I misread something on the internet and yes for example
When I play a song om my tablet and want my pc to play that song too, Where DLNA was made for, but I geuss only Sony Certified devices are supported, I am going to try iMediaShare maby that will give me more info thanks for your reply +1!
I didnt think DLNA worked overly well on the ps3 with a tablet s?
Least not the throw ablity?
Out of interest does anyone know any good apps to supplement the tablets dlna?
I d love to be able to browse my NAS using the tablet, or browse the web and throw the content to my tv using the ps3

Okay, this is getting very confusing, but I'll try and help Narzsa
You can use something like iMediaShare and then you can browse the Tablet S from the PS3's XMB. If you don't need the browse function, throwing music or videos should work, but I haven't tried it personally. If your NAS is DLNA-capable (required no matter which direction or what function you're using) then you should be able to see the NAS in the included DLNA app, and then browse to the content you want.
Unfortunately, Web content is a whole different deal. Unless the Web content you're talking about is a video file with a direct link that can be opened in the stock Video Player app, then it's not possible. In that specific case, using the Throw button and choosing your TV should work okay.
If you have any other Q's try and be very specific as to what you're trying to do
Yeah its hard to get this done
But I haven't lost hope (yet). xD its hard to understand all those hard sentences because of the language
barrier, so I have to find out somewere else in dutch for example, I do understand English but its getting
too hard with all this together xD # Feeling little embarrassed
Thanks for your help I certainly can do something with this info so I will do my best +1 "Again"

Bugger, so the throw ablity is only available in the stock app? I take it there is no way to extend its supported file formats as its immensely limited and wont play half of my stuff
No problem Mahaco, sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.
And Narzsa, yes, the Throw function is a custom Sony addition as Android's stock apps do not include DLNA functionality. There is no way to extend the stock app's compatible video files. The stock version uses a hardware decoding function for reliability and efficiency and is therefore limited to the video file types that the hardware supports (found here).
Your only option would be to hope that there is a third party (software-decoding) video player with DLNA built-in. I haven't seen one personally, but there might be one so try searching the Play Store.
PS:All my videos are nicely encoded for my multiple devices, so I can use the stock player, hence I'm not too sure about the third-party ones
Bugger, nearly all of my stuff wont run on the tablet (though it will for the ps3 funnily lol)
Any one know of any good third party replacement software for the stock app?
ES file explorer works well for me. With multiple video handling applications I chose which one is best for each file,

Install Bubble upnp on your tablet, this lets you view/browse all your files from the PS3 media server/ (or install something like Serviio on your pc and point it at your NAS), select one and play to your tv, (assuming it's DLNA), or playing the file on the tablet, although you'll need a decent videoplayer app like Diceplayer rather than the rubbish stock one.
I use Bubble UPNP with MX Video to render from PS3 Media Server. Bubble UPNP also includes a built-in server for offerring, but I haven't use that function yet.

[Q] Does unlocking BL really removes DRM?

I've unlocked my WT19a's bootloader using official Sony method.
Every topic says that it removes DRM keys and the functionality of some apps, like TrackID.
However, TrackID downloaded from Play Store works normally here.
Is it usual? Shouldn't TrackID stop working after the bootloader has been unlocked?
Original TrackID does stop working.
Downloaded from Market continues working.
Also, Like button in Walkman stops working.

Music files, which include some kind of protection inside the files and require the DRM keys to be allowed to play.
Doesn't it sounds funny? Keeping DRM helps piracy hahahahaha!!!

With DRM you can reproduce copyrighted (protected) music, and without you can't!

That kind of music files have strict protection. Will post more info when I get to my laptop.
EDIT:
Many online music stores employ DRM to restrict usage of music purchased and downloaded online.
Prior to 2009, Apple's iTunes Store utilized the FairPlay DRM system for music. Apple did not license its DRM to other companies, so only Apple devices could play iTunes music.[5] In May 2007, EMI tracks became available in iTunes Plus format at a higher price point. These tracks were higher quality (256 kbps) and DRM free. In October 2007, the cost of iTunes Plus tracks was lowered to US$0.99.[21] In April 2009, all iTunes music became available completely DRM free. (Videos sold and rented through iTunes, as well as iOS Apps, however, were to continue using Apple's FairPlay DRM.)
Napster music store offers a subscription-based approach to DRM alongside permanent purchases. Users of the subscription service can download and stream an unlimited amount of music transcoded to Windows Media Audio (WMA) while subscribed to the service. But when the subscription period lapses, all of the downloaded music is unplayable until the user renews his or her subscription. Napster also charges users who wish to use the music on their portable device an additional $5 per month. In addition, Napster gives users the option of paying an additional $0.99 per track to burn it to CD or for the song to never expire. Music bought through Napster can be played on players carrying the Microsoft PlaysForSure logo (which, notably, do not include iPods or even Microsoft's own Zune). As of June 2009, Napster is offering DRM free MP3 music, which can be played on iPhones and iPods.
Wal-Mart Music Downloads, another online music download store, charges $0.94 per track for all non-sale downloads. All Wal-Mart, Music Downloads are able to be played on any Windows PlaysForSure marked product. The music does play on the SanDisk's Sansa mp3 player, for example, but must be copied to the player's internal memory. It cannot be played through the player's microSD card slot, which is a problem that many users of the mp3 player experience.
Sony operated an online music download service called "Connect" which used Sony's proprietary OpenMG DRM technology. Music downloaded from this store (usually via Sony's SonicStage software) was only playable on computers running Microsoft Windows and Sony hardware (including the PSP and some Sony Ericsson phones).
Kazaa is one of a few services offering a subscription-based pricing model. However, music downloads from the Kazaa website are DRM-protected, and can only be played on computers or portable devices running Windows Media Player, and only as long as the customer remains subscribed to Kazaa.

With DRM keys you can only play DRM protected files that you bought yourself.
DRM files have a mechanism that only allow them to be played in specific/authorized devices.
So, with locked bootloader (and proper DRM keys), you won't be able to play DRM protected files bought from another people.
Unlocking bootloader means that you loose DRM keys.
Loosing DRM keys means that you can't reproduce DRM protected music files that you bought from stores like Amazon, iTunes etc.
Sony thinks that a custom ROM/kernel would allow the user to reproduce DRM files on a non-authorized Android phone.
Sony sells musics, so... You've got the point.
Now I've got enough info. Thank you both!

How to share videos & Photos on Laptop

How to play videos and audio songs from Xperia s to Sony vaio laptop through Wifi.
I found option like play on device in walkman on Xperia s. How to use play on device on my phone.
Check out the connected devices app. If your laptop supports dlna it will see the phone show up as a media server once you enable it on the phone.

Give some apps and tutorials for Dnla and how can i know dnla is available in my laptop or not, In my laptop having HDMI port .
I think that windows media player can detect media servers. It should be in the library. But first you have to add your laptop to connected devices in the phone

[Q] Root x10 as music player

Yes.
You'll still need the core operating system and it's dependencies.
You can probably delete approx 30-50 applications from within /system/app and free up a running environment of over 180MB of RAM
Even on a stock GB 2.3.3, I'd still root the device and use a modified Kernel like DoomKernel v6, just so you have the best the phone has to offer.
Off interest, the above configuration does allow for .mkv 720p (H264,AC3) movies to be played too.
The camera could make a good travel video recorder too. This way your friends don't laugh at you when you say you saw a man driving a sofa with a coffee table down the M25.
It has been reported that a Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10i will support a SanDisk 64GB MicroSD card reformatted to FAT32.
But like anything there have also been tears :crying: reported too.
I have a 32GB SanDisk card in mine and been running it that way for over a year.
If you store Google maps offline, you can use your phone as a Navigation system as well and it "shouldn't"[citation needed] need a SIM card in it or any WiFi/3G access.
I've run my X10i without a SIM card for months and it works fine using WiFi only.
The Sony Ericsson X10i natively support .wma files which is a bonus. Newer Sony phones don't, however the newer phones do support .flac natively.
I use Neutron Music player with .ogg and .flac files which are mostly streamed from my NAS.

What music player are you going to use?????
DonutHD ROM comes with a pretty good stripped down environment and generally quite stable.
If I remember correctly it has all the social media removed already with only about 96 system apps of which maybe only another 10 could be removed if your wanted to take it to the extreme. Such as gmail.apk, email.apk, gtalk.apk etc, etc.

[Q] Android rom for Standalone Media Player Smartphone

I was wondering if exist, or if it's possible to build, a special android release for old smartphones without basic phone functions, to be used just as standalone media player. I mean a basic distribution that allow just playing local audio files or remote files through wifi home network.
I have an old xperia x8, which is a good phone and there are a lot of android based custom roms, but i need to use it just as a media player.
As soon as I power it on it has to show a list of music files to play.

Bump!
I think this is quite an interesting question. I'm using my old Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) as a media player, and I've installed Cyanogenmod on it. I'm playing the songs (local) with the built-in Appolo, but if there were to be a music player ROM, I would be interested.
Maybe using a Slim ROM (SlimBean, SlimKat, etc.) and using the SlimSizer option to get rid of unnecessary things could be a way to get a version of Android stripped of everything you don't need in a music player. However, that won't show the list of tracks when booting the phone.
