I found this hack on the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) forum here on xda, credit goes to user KoryandR.
For me, this made a perfect larger stylus for my Note Pro, and only cost a couple bucks. It was well worth that and the few minutes of effort. Since it's an actual S-pen, there's of course no offset that many styluses suffer from.
I just wanted to share my own write-up of this here for Note Pro 12.2 owners as well.
You’ll need:
1. A Pilot G2 pen -I used an 07- ($2).
2. An S-Pen replacement from eBay or Amazon. ($8 - $16) Assuming you don’t want to sacrifice the Note Pro’s stylus. Make sure you buy an S-Pen that’s labeled “Original” or “OEM” so you don’t get a cheap knock-off. I found an OEM S-Pen (for Note 3) for $8 on eBay that works perfectly with the Note Pro.
3. A package of foam or gel pen/pencil grips. ($2 - $3)
Unscrew the G-2 and discard the ink barrel and spring. (I left the clicker as counter-weight).
Use a utility knife to very carefully slice about ¼ inch off the plastic tip.
Push the S-Pen through the front barrel until it fits snugly, and with enough tip sticking out to write comfortably. If you can live without the click-button, you can screw the pen together and start using your larger stylus.
If you want the click button, remove the rubber grip (note: this is hard to do, the grip is incredibly tight!) Easiest: cut the grip off with an exacto knife, Later you can replace it with a foam or gel pencil grip.
Mark where the S-Pen’s click-button is through the clear barrel. Remove the S-Pen, and (VERY CAREFULLY!) use a utility knife to cut open a corresponding notch in the barrel. Easiest: heat the blade with a candle flame to melt the plastic some. Be careful not to melt too much of the barrel and warp it. I used a utility knife to shave down and smooth out the opening. I didn’t do the neatest job of it, but it doesn’t matter; this is hidden under the gel grip. More advanced DIY’ers can likely use a Dremel tool.
Push the S-Pen back in the barrel and line up the opening. Once you can easily click the button, cover with a foam or gel pencil grip.
I was easily able to click the button through a gel grip, and a slight indention cues you where the button is. The replacement gel grip is also more comfortable than the G-2’s original plastic grip.
I find this mod to be a tremendous improvement; it's very comfortable to write/draw with. I highly recommend this if you draw or write with the S-Pen and want a reliable larger stylus. (I used a garish blue colored G-2 pen to prevent it getting mixed up with common pens.)
Nice. So...Where's mine?
Nice, mod

Thanks for the tip. Here is my attempt at it. I went the extra step of doing some spray painting to improve the look. I did not use a G2. Used a staples pen.
My version
I used this mod and I absolutely love it. I did however make one small adjustment to the original design. Instead of cutting a large ugly hole into the barrel, I cut a tiny circle and I used one of the pieces from the pen's guts. (the lower part of the click button assembly) I whittled it down to a tiny circular nub to fit into the small hole on the shaft of the pen. Then I cut a Small opening into the gelgrip allowing the nub to protrude ever so slightly. the result is a pushable button that is very easy to locate on the pen and it is quite easy to use. I dare even say that it looks quite nice. below is a picture of how my version looks. By the way, for any nay- sayers out there, I composed this entire message using nothing but my G2 S-Pen and I didn't feel the slightest bit of discomfort.
s pen won't fit!
I have the galaxy 8 white s pen. It is too wide for the pilot and won't fit. Help!

Any stylus from the note series will work with galaxy 8. Buy one for the phone then do this. I'm still using the stylus from my note 1 in a holder that was made for it back then.
This is my stylus from my Note 1 with the holder from Samsung...
My spen .... thanx for the idea
Nice
unfortunately it gave my note8 and sm-p200 s-pen(s) scratches when pulling it in and out of the g2 stylus holder
other than that it's great!

this is a modification of the original box of the g-tablet.
after having issues with my net-book's screen while carrying it on my backpack i realized that needed to start protecting my devices from my clumsiness in the future.
so after careful thinking a i decided that the perfect way was to use the original box since it already had the edges to fit well the tablet in such a way i wouldn't move and a top cover protecting the screen. well, i pretty much was broke after buying the tablet so i had no choice. besides i don't plan to sell it forward. too bad it ruins the collectors value loll.
i didn't cut it well due to lack skills with the scissor but i bet anyone else can do a better job. i ended gluing everything up and so far has served the purpose.
heres some pics of my masterpiece lol.

yeah i didn't think of that when i bought it back in February but the idea is basically taking the rubber parts that fit the tablet still and putting them on a stronger base made of the same box. then taking the top cover and cutting the edges to fit the base.
you could just use a different box or material along with the rubber parts as well.
i also made a stand with a cheap Chinese-made car stand for GPS. I'm so frugal he! and now i even have the money to buy these stuffs but i just feel better doing it myself.
Done on the cheap!
Now what you do is go to your local thrift store and find a pair of leather or pleather pants or jacket and get some spray on adhesive and a heat gun. Cut the material to fit the outside of the box there and spray both the box and material with adhesive. let them set up for a few min to get nice and tacky and stick them together making sure you dont get any air bubbles. Make sure you leave enough to wrap around the edges about an inch or so and stick to the inside of the case as well. Get some felt or something soft and cut a piece to go on the lid to hide the overlaps of the leather and give the front of your tablet something soft to rest against. Same Idea goes for under the tab inside the foam rubber. Add yourself a clasp with a button or Velcro on the bottom side and walla you have a nice looking leather/pleather case for your tab on a very very cheap budget.

I thought this was funny. I could almost see someone in a thrift store folding up pleather pants into a small rectangle and holding it under their arm to see what it would look like....
Totally genious! I still have my box from when I got my tab in February. I'm totally doing this and then spray tack a pair of cut up jeans onto it!
Ghetto Fabulous!
I found this little gem for $3.21 on Amazon. The dimensions looked good, I know CaseCrown makes a solid product and for less than $10 with shipping it was worth a try. In my opinion it's very nice fit, quality build and looks a helluva lot better than your average black messenger case.
Here's the link if anyone wants to grab one
Instead of just saying "yah it's nice!" I wanted to post some pics and a little review for those interested. Some of the pics aren't the greatest but they still get the idea across. I'm still waiting for my dock to arrive and once it does I'll update this post accordingly.
My needs: I carry my tablet daily and actually do use it for work. Up until now I had been using a very solid neoprene sleeve from BUILT NY (10" hardback "hoodie") but it wasn't terribly convenient to carry or open and remove the tab on the fly. I needed a case that would protect my tablet, allow me to carry a few smaller items (phone, memory wallet, etc) but still gave me easy access to the tablet with as little bulk as possible.

The Fit: The tablet slips in the case nicely without the corners or sides rubbing against the zipper. Overall It's a comfortable fit, not overly snug like forcing it into an iThing case nor is the tablet flopping around inside while I walk. Like most laptop and netbook cases there are elastic straps on the bottom corners and vinyl straps on the top corners for holding the base and the screen in place. The tablet slips under the elastic ones just fine, hopefully with the dock in place it will be a snug fit. I don't plan on getting a folio but there does seem to be enough room to accommidate one if you just wanted a slim carrying case for your folio'd tablet.
There is an odd little padded "flap" along the seam that must serve some purpose for the device this was designed for. I fold it down over the screen for the extra bit of protection. Folding it under the tab does prop it up by a few degrees but doesn't really improve the view of the screen.
The front pouch accomidates my phone (Evo with an Otterbox Commuter case), memory card wallet, keys and a pack of gum pretty well. The Transformer's charging brick does fit but it distends the vinyl to a point where I think it would leave a permanent imprint over time. I haven't tried it yet but the pouch looks big enough to hold a 7" tablet if you really wanted to geek out.
The Quality: CaseCrown makes a solid bag. I've owned two of their products in the past and both times I was quite happy with the build quality for the price. The stitching isn't frayed or loose (no dangly ends or loose threads) and the material itself doesn't feel cheap or chintzy. The zipper pulls, strap rings and buckles on the shoulder strap are metal so I'm not worried about something wearing out or suddenly snapping.
The memory foam padding is a few mm thick and absorbs daily bumps and dings well. I wouldn't toss it out a window or anything but if I happened to drop it on concrete or marble I wouldn't be concerned with the survival of the contents. The front pouch has a thinner layer of padding inside the flap; it's enough to be there but not enough to add any bulk. Assuming you don't put anything too fragile in the pouch it should be enough.
The strap is just over 1" wide and feels like the same webbing they use to make seatbelts. There is an adjustable shoulder pad on the strap but so far the case is light enough that the pad becomes an annoyance. As I mentioned before the buckles and adjusters are metal and feel very solid. I prefer to have messengers like this land just below my hip bone but with the strap at maximum length it lands directly on my hip (6'2" 160lbs, for a frame of reference).
I think the big downside to this is the vinyl outside. It feels thick and looks good but if you manage to puncture or cut it you'll have a permanent hole in your case (short of some E-6000 and a patch kit) which could lead to problems down the road.
The Overall: If this is the style your looking for you won't find a better bag for the money. It's not extremely rugged but I'm not the sort to take my tablet hiking, into combat or around a construction site. Hopefully it's still useful once my dock arrives.
I took more than enough pictures and you can find them all here.
Id be all over that if it were black!

They do have black variations floating around. I have the exact same bag except in black and without the shoulder strap. I originally got it for my netbook a year ago or so. I realized that when I got my tablet that many of my carrying accessories for my netbook would also fit my tablet. Works wonderfully.

This is what I'm going to pick up for my Transformer & dock.
Seidio's Convert case for the Motorola Photon 4G was recently released and I have been reviewing the Convert Value Pack for the last two weeks. The Convert case is a multi layer case that was designed to meet every situation. IMO they have done a fine job.
The face of any smartphone is the most important part and Seidio includes their Ultimate Screen Guard to protect the screen. The Ultimate Screen Guard is super thin .01mm and is attached via static rather than adhesive. It went on easily and I successfully installed it with no air bubbles (a real feat for me). The Ultimate Screen Guard has cut-outs for sensors and front-facing camera and lines up perfectly. It is cut slightly smaller than the screen/glass leaving maybe 1mm border all the way around. This might be an issue for someone buying the Ultimate Screen Guard separately but with the Convert case installed this area is covered by the rubber layer.
The Convert is really two cases in one and the first case is the Surface case, a sleek plastic or plastic like case with a nice rubbery texture. It feels good in your hand and adds minimal bulk. This case is great for everyday normal use, fits well in the front pocket or jacket pocket. There are cut-outs for access to the ports, controls, speakers and camera AND the kickstand is still usable with the Surface case on. They also sell a separate holster for the Surface case and I will be picking that up soon. It would be nice if they included it with the Value Pack but I guess there are limits.
The next case is a heavy-duty case for rugged professions, outdoor play or like me just keeping up with my 3 boys. With the sleek Surface case on you add a layer of shock-absorbing silicone and a precision-fit skeleton. This combo adds some bulk but still feels amazingly comfortable in my hand. Controls, ports and camera are covered for protection, but the way the buttons are on the rubber liner the buttons are easy to push and feel great.
The included holster is fantastic, It has an over sized belt clip which works great on a police duty belt ( just had to find a place to put it, Next to the tazer works for me. Just hope I don't answer the wrong one). The belt clip also works well on my jeans with a normal belt. Very little play even though the slot is bigger. The holster has a lock which locks the phone in place but yet is easily released with one hand for answering.
My only complaint with the Seidio Convert is that there is no kickstand access when the full case is on. However the kickstand on the Otterbox my friend had just fell off so their solution did not work either. Its a great case and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a case for all conditions.
And now for some pics

They did a really good job lining up the cutouts, but I still think the Screen Protector is a little small
With just the surface case on there is still a little bit of bare screen exposed.
Surface case - Cutouts for the access ports and kickstand work great
Surface case - Kickstand works both vertical and horizontal
Surface case - Looks really good on the phone and adds minimal bulk
Surface case - Slide apart with a little pressure.
Surface case - Easy access to all buttons and ports
Convert Case - Now the whole screen is protected
Convert case - When installing the exoskeleton, be sure to pull the flap for the camera cover through the hole. If not the camera can't be used.
Convert case - Camera flap cover pins back and stays out of the way so far.
Convert case - Covers for the other ports work great
Convert case - Pull the flap aside for charging.
Convert case - Cover for headphone jack
Convert case - Buttons protrude for ease of finding and pushing.
Still a fantastic looking phone
Felt lined clip to hold phone
Clip locks in at 7 different angels, Also has teh lock to hold the phone from falling out.
Easy slide lock
Oversized belt clip for police, fire, paramedics, carpenters etc. Also works great on regular belts.
Please hit the thanks button if you found this helpful
Good review, now we need some pics! Your friend must have a otterbox on a Evo, that's a know issue on that case I must have gone through about 8 of them all having the same kickstand issue. The Motorola photon otterbox defender is awesome and it has a open area for you to use your kickstand.
Yes he does have the EVO, I'll try to get some pictures this weekend. Getting ready for a funeral, so its been a busy week.
Please feel free to post any questions and I'll try to answer.
Ben
I want to get one.
Pics have been added to OP
Thanks for posting this. I was looking at this on seidio's website but wanted to read a review on it but none were on the site. Def gonna get this for sure now.

You still loving the case? Has anybody else tried it yet? I'm just waiting to get the money to buy it but wanted to hear what others thought too.
I work outside so I definitely think this case will help keep the dust out

RooCase has 2 models of cover. I bought the lighter one that was supposed to be 6 oz. While it doesn't add much weight and bulk, it is noticeable.
It is a nice fitting cover, seems well made and proper openings for all the ports.
However on 3 sides the cover has what I call flanges - not a smooth rounded form fitting way to close in the sides.
While I have neither the base nor the keyboard portfolio, the flanges might prevent proper usage without removing the TPT from the case.
I'll let you know next month when they arrive.
The only other thing is that it would have been nice to have magnetic closure on the cover.
Not for an Apple affect but so it the case is dropped the cover will remain closed and offering a little more protection to the face of the tablet.

I got the Executive case and have had it for about a week now. It's solidly made and is very protective. Plenty of padding to protect it from drops at reasonable heights.
The removable housing that the tablet is actually inserted in is quite nice for handling the tablet in once you get to where you need to be with it. It attaches by velcro.
Some gripes I have with it (all minor): Slightly more difficult to press buttons in the soft menu bar, since I used to swipe up from the bottom to press them. Speaker is partially obstructed (though no notable decrease in volume or quality). If you attach your pen with the cable you will have to untie it to take the tablet out of the housing. More significantly, you cannot access the resest/sim/sd panel while it is the housing.

The case doubles the weight of the tablet, but I was expecting that and I wanted the better padding for protection.
Seems to be a very durable case and I don't see myself ever looking for an alternative.

Just wanted to give a quick review of the non-executive version of this case. I got it for ~23 bucks on overstock a few weeks ago.
The inner section of it is exactly like the pictures above, and the outer section basically is a leather slab cover that attaches via velcro to one side of the tablet, and has a small (albeit weak) magnet on the other side to stay on.
Overall, I'm okay with it considering there werent too many options, but I wish there was something a bit lighter or something that just covered the front (the thinkpad's already got a meaty backside). It's weird that this thing is almost as thick as my macbook.
I’ve grab ahold of these three Galaxy Note 3 cases from Poetic, all reasonably priced on Amazon, and I thought it’ll be a good opportunity to do a round-up of sorts. All these cases have different features and makes sense in different situations. Why did I get so many cases? I guess I’m a bit of a case junkie. Without further ado, let’s look at this line-up.
First, we have the Palette. This is the slimmest and most minimalistic case of the lot. This case simply covers the back and side of the Note 3, leaving the top and bottom exposed. You’re not going to get comprehensive protection against drops here. Instead, the Palette shields against buffs and scratches to the leather-like back of the Note 3, while adding a lay-on-table lip to the front screen. In addition, the case’s soft rubberized surface adds a degree of grip to your phone. Easy to snap on and take off.

Next, we have a wallet-cover case in the SlimBook. I’m really liking the look of this leather-like case. Clean stitching and stiff leather gives this case a business-like quality. The cover closes with a snap via a magnetic clasp. On the inside of the cover, there are 3 card slots available, as well as a pocket for bills. Adding credit cards to the case does add a bit of thickness, so it’s up to you whether you want to use the case as an all-in-one holder of your essentials. Overall, a handsome case.
Lastly, there is the Strapback, a leather case which boasts a built-in stand. The grain leather cover feels satisfyingly plushy. It’s not the best quality leather, but there is a suppleness here that I enjoy. The cover snaps on tightly with a slightly hooked clasp. The back is slightly cutout so you can pulls the case forward to form a stand as seen in the pictures below. I found this stand configuration to be easier to use than normal kickstands.
Overall, I liked the Strapback the most from the three cases. The hard back along with thick leather material should do well in drop protection, and I like the added function of the stand over the SlimBook’s card and cash slots. But I will also use the Palette often as well because it’s so much slimmer and lighter than the other two.
You can find the rest on the photos I took of these cases in the following albums. Thank you for reading!
