Hi,
I'm currently working on a project to secure a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1 for kiosk usage and have gone down the path of using a custom rom. My device is rooted and I've stripped the stock rom of almost all apps, but have found myself somewhat stuck when it comes to locking the tablet to the browser app (preventing access to settings, status bar, notification bar and desktop so widgets can't be added or new shortcuts). I realise I can get apps to do this task such as SureLock, but wanted to explore what I can achieve using a custom rom. The tablets have a case which prevents access to exterior buttons, so all I'm worried about is the on-screen lock down.
I guess where I'm at is trying to replace the launcher with an existing apk for which I cannot access the source, such as the Samsung stock browser. Is this even possible - effectively wrapping an apk in my own app which behaves as a launcher? Are there already any projects or discussions on this - I have searched but have not found anything past looking at the Home SDK? Or perhaps I'm missing something here, is there a way to fire up the stock browser on boot (I have init.d support in the rom) in fullscreen preventing access to the status bar? Any suggestions will be gratefully received!
Cheers,
Phil

Hey all,
I have recently installed ADW Launcher EX in order to set my tablet up using the Hubs philosophy. Looks great so far, but the one thing I did like was the favorites shortcut in the status bar on the stock sony launcher. I would like to add it somewhere, but it won't let me add it, probably because it is some kind of hidden system app.
Does anyone know how to add these hidden system apps to homescreens or wherever without need root access or a custom rom?

Without some serious dev work, it looks to me like this is not possible. It seems to be a part of the stock launcher from what I can tell. You might be able to write a non-launchable app that just launches the Favourites, but that would only work if they had any public Intents built-in.
Not too sure, since I'm at work and can't check right now, but thats just my thoughts.
Thanks,
I had thought as much. I actually don't mind the sony stock launcher, just wish I could create shortcuts that can jump to certain screens like in ADW launcher. I'm sure if I rooted, I could find some way to access that applications independently, but I don't really want to go that route with my tablet. My phone was enough lol
Hello,
I have started developing a custom launcher and i am in need of help/education. I want it to work like a sandbox, where user only has access to certain applications and is restricted from everything else. I have managed to get a launcher up and running with basic functionality, however i would like to add/edit more things to it:
1. Status Bar. I would like to create new, modify existing or even remove it. If i cannot remove it, can i at least disable it or make it invisible in all the applications? Where do i start? I have not found any information regarding customizing the status bar.
2. Lock screen. I would like to change this one as well. Is there any starting point where i could begin reading about modifying it?
3. Updating Launcher. Say if i install launcher from Google Play and i then want to update it, what will happen? Launcher updates and restarts? If i have 2 Launchers installed, will i see the second one will the first one restarts? Will i have to set default launcher again after update?
Note that solutions for rooted and unrooted devices fit to me so at least i know i can remove / disable the default launcher. I also fully understand that there is no way to restrict user from reflashing rom and such, but that is not a concern to me.
Hi, I have a Galaxy S II HD LTE E120S, Build number: ir2.E120SKSJMK1 by Kynn. The ROM I've used before is ir2-v2 which has the option in Setting to enable Shortcuts in Locksreen but since I updated to the newer ROM I've downloaded from a Chinese forum that option has been somewhat disappeared (I've tried all the methods I could find on the Internet including changing from Pattern to Swipe and None and such but the option didn't show up). I've also tried updating to the stock ROM directly from Kies (which has the same build number) but the option didn't appear either (just like Samsung hides it on purpose).
All I want is that that option is back so that I can add Camera shortcuts for fast access, and using a third-party lockscreen just slows the phone down. I've already tried the Nova Launcher method (like in this link) but didn't work because "Shortcuts (.lockscreenshortcut.locscreenshortcutsettings)" didn't show up in Activities.
So is there a way to edit some files in system folder (I have root) so that I can enable shortcuts or any other ways to copy the lockscreen shortcuts enabling option from ir2.v2 ROM to this ROM? (I prefer this ROM to ir2.v2 because it's less laggy and battery consuming). These two ROMs are somewhat the same so will it be possible?
Thanks in advance. Sorry for my bad English.
Recently pulled my old i777 out of the drawer. After upgrading to 4.1.2 i found that the Active applications and assistive light widgets are both absent.
I had both these widgets on previous versions of android on this phone. I have another phone(i437p) running stock 4.1.2 which has both of these widgets.
I scoured the internet and found some people with this problem. Found some suggestions to download the galaxy apps application and i would be able to downloaded them from there but neither of these widgets are available for download on galaxy apps.
My question is if anyone knows how or where to download and install these stock widgets?
I understand i can access the active apps by holding down the home button then clicking the pie chart on the bottom left. I can also download any of the hundreds of flashlight apps on playstore. However i find it much more convenient to use the widgets right on my home screen. I also dont like downloading 3rd party apps which will be full of ads and eat my data and ram.

Samsung removed the widget after ICS, but you'd have no trouble using one from the Play Store. Just find one without ads (if that's your concern), it won't run in the background and will work just the same as Assistive Light. Or you could install an AOSP rom, as they nearly all have a flashlight toggle/app built in.
the flashlight is not that big of deal i guess. The active applications widget is extremely useful.
I sucked it up and downloaded a widget from the market but they all have their own task killers equipped with ads and all. had to uninstall.
I also found the "shortcuts" option missing from the home screen. It might have allowed me to put a shortcut to active apps on my homesceen. This version of android on the s2 seems to be very limited. I know these widgets haven't been discontinued because newer phones running the same stock firmware have the widgets and shorcuts. I would be satisfied with a simple shorcut to active apps on the homescreen.
Hi, i just bought a Chinese dash cam/rear view mirror on amazon, i think its made by phisung
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00P7G994A?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
it works well, but the android system is quite dated (4.0.4), and some of the setting are missing or dont work such as brightness adjustment.
so far i've rooted it using kingo and installed titanium and root explorer, and backed up the existing partitions using adb, but what i'm quite keen to do is modify the main launcher screen. at present i cant change the 7 apps on the main windows phone style launcher screen and I want to replace them with alternatives or replace the launcher.
I've sideloaded nova and a couple of other launchers, but whilst I can load them from the app draw, there is no option to set a new default launcher, and the home button always loads the pre-installed launcher, which is some chinese launcher listed as DX_launcher02 in the app draw and daxun.launcher.activity in system/ app folder, I've tried apps like launcher switcher, which have no effect on the default as the options is greyed out.
I've also tried freezing the built in launcher with Titanium, thinking it might then default to nova, but the home button( both hardware and soft buttons) then just loads a blank screen, so I used the recent app menu to go back to titanium and unfreeze the stock launcher.
I'm suspecting there might be a more complicated way to change the launcher, either by editing apk properties and changing the default app to point the shortcuts/tiles to new apps, or by setting a new default launcher, so if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated?
My friend bought exact same model.
He has problem with auto shutdown. Navigating or not - recording or not - there will be pop up that countdowns 10sec auto shutdown.
To abort shutdown - touch the screen. And of course - touching the screen doesn't help.
Have you found any solution for this?

Hi I do not know too much about this Android device, but I bought one (Crane_cvr) frm Tingway and it was full of Chinese software. Trying to delete it was not successful and loading Google Play was impossible. The sellers sent me an "new" h200-2.img file which I installed with Phoenixsuite. However, my functionality of the GPS disappeared. I have even connected another working GPS, to no prevail. Since it seems you have lot more knowledge, do you have an idea how I can get the GPS working? I have now been trying for 2 months. GPS Toolbox / Test / etc .. do not pick up any satellites, but it seems the GPS is detected.
Thanks in advance
