Hello,
I just installed the new dev version of CM11 for my i777 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559694
and was hoping that it would have fixed USB audio out that CM10.1 didn't appear to have and that others have stated that is disabled in the latest stable release.
The cable that I am using shows "Car mode enabled" when plugged in but when I attempt to play any audio, it still comes out through the phone. Is there any way to enable this functionality, maybe with a different kernel or maybe modifying system files?
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

So I did some major researching and found a solution for anyone interested. It seems that only Android version 4.1.2, packaged in CM10 (not CM10.1 or later) work great with usb audio out on the i777. Not quite sure what happened with CM10.1 or later that broke usb audio functionality but I hope it comes back in the later releases.
Some report that CM9 will also work.
Here's a link to CM10 builds if you want to experiment:
goo.im/devs/cm/i777/nightly
I installed cm-10-20121217-NIGHTLY-i777.zip which looks like the last CM10 build before it goes to 10.1.
So far so good, but it's only been a few hours so far...

I have been running AOKP for some time now, and everything has been working great, except for the occasional freezes. I have now installed the latest nightly CM9 build, but I don't get any sound through my multimedia dock. It plays through the built in speakers. Anyone have the same issue, or maybe a solution?
I have the same problem. The sound comes out from the built-in speaker.
same issue... was running SGT7 AOKP P1 build 40. Now running CM9 nightly build 20120713... sound only comes out of built in speakers no matter what i do.
I've tried enabling HDMI dock (which both OS's seem to recognize physically docked/undocked).
Tried enabling USB Audio setting (with both OS's seem to IGNORE physically docked/undocked).
I came from Overcome where everything worked perfectly. The frustration is that I'm using a MM dock. Sound neither comes through the HDMI interface, nor the 3.5mm. This setup is mounted in my dash so now I have to make the decision of ICS/no sound in my car or Gingerbread...

select pass through usb audio in dock settings, then dock it. if its already docked, force a undock, take tab out, select audio passthrough, then dock it.

I have this issue on the 7in tab still despite running CM9 official. Any one know if there is any more progress, as the above suggestions don't work for me? The tab doesn't recognise the dock being plugged in even though it recognises USB to the computer etc.
Here's hoping...

this is for tab 10.1 audio should work without issue through dock on CM9 for tab 10.1.
So I have a really aggravating issue with CM10. As we all know the Galaxy note is a big ass phone. This makes it perfect for a GPS/Audio player in our cars. Since the JB merge/ CM9 Transition we have lost the ability to have AUDIO via USB.
The way my dash mount works it makes it impossible for me to plug in both the audio and usb at the same time so im forced to either charge or have audio while in the Jeep.
A recent reply to my issue @ http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=6600 stated
"Dont know if this helps: Please have the CM dev supporting your model verify the correct mapping exists between the ROM audio device and the kernel audio path (commonly set in libaudio).
Example: DEVICE_OUT_ANLG_DOCK_HEADSET in ROM should map to the path PLAYBACK_EXTRA_DOCK in the kernel."
So for us non programmers ? can some one check this for me ?
Bump....
Hi All,
I've been looking around and can't seem to find a solution to the problem I'm facing.
I own a i9300 Rooted Galaxy S3 with the latest nightly build of Cyanogenmod 10.1 on it.
I also own a Desktop Dock for my desk which has audio out, this line works perfectly, however when I try to use my car dock the audio out does not work. It recognizes it is a car dock opens my app and charges but the Audio line does not work.
I know the cable is not faulty as I have tried it on the stock Samsung firmware and it works perfectly.
So does anyone know if a car dock is much different to a desk dock in terms of outputting sound, and how I can fix this problem.
Thanks in advance.
Paul
I got the same problem. I switched to omega rom and works fine there. I tried all roms based on open android project and no one works. But all roms vased on sammy firmware works
Hi,
I finally gave in and flashed an AOSP ROM (AOKP 4.2.2) on my Note 2, and love it except for one potential deal-breaker. I have the iBolt xPro Dock with the combination charge/audio cable, and with every TW ROM i tried it worked perfectly. The 2 or 3 AOSP ROMs I have tried will charge from the cable, but play the sound through the phone speaker instead of outputting it through the USB audio cable as expected. The Settings > Sound > Dock > Audio setting is simply grayed out. I have searched and searched and found mostly old threads about the AOSP ROMs not supporting the USB Audio-out for dock accessories and whatnot, but was wondering if anyone has more information about this issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I am back on a TW ROM at the moment, but if I recall correctly to enable dock audio, you have to go to Settings, and then either advanced or accessories. There should be a check box for USB audio or something similar. I know I always have to fumble around to find it every time I load a new ROM. Settings>Sound>Dock>Audio seems like the logical place for it, but for some reason they moved it to another sub-menu.
I also use the iBolt and love only having to have one cable to plug in.
I am planning on loading CM10.2 tonight, so if you still haven't found it I will post some screen shots or something.
I think it is under settings>>advanced>>audio for aosp ROMs. At least that's the case for cm10.1

Thanks guys. I'm back on a TW ROM as well, I'll have to give it another try this evening.
Looks like it went AWOL in 10.2 again... Hopefully one of the next nightlies will put it back.
I'm on Ibolt with galaxy s3 and I too have had success with touch wiz roms but not aosp. I'm currently on carbon after trying avatar. Both are based on cm. The car settings settings are under advanced /sound. I can get sound to play through the car carspeakers but but microphone microphone doesn't work when trying trying do voice voice commands. Major drag.

My sister-in-law Galaxy S3 was getting old, so I installed for her Temasek 12.3 rom, and she loves it very much, except that she depends a lot on Bluetooth for car/headset, and with the default ROM and kernel the bluetooth is troublesome: freezes, doesn't work always, needs a lot of reboots.
What ROM/kernel combination can I put to have a stable device with a working bluetooth?
@mcbyte_it: BT stays an ass-needle in LP. You'll have to test various ROMs & your hardware. For 100%working BT go back to JB: NCS-ROM is based on newest firmware and hardly debloated. So very fast & batteryfriendly. Perhaps you'll miss same little LP-features of courseā¦
