[Q] [PROXIMITY SENSOR] Flip cover application - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I have recently purchased the 'FLIP COVER' for my galaxy s3.
I was just wondering how you would make proximity sensor work with the flip cover? What application do you use?
Can anyone recommend/suggest me?
Thanks,
Neo

Hey, how are you?
I use SmartCover... Sometimes, very rarely, it doesn't work, but you just need to deactivate and activate again. I don't even get mad by this... Hope helped you

As nyrus said smart cover works well There is also a pro version of the app if u don't want the extra work wic ul have to do with the lite version.
However I've used these apps before. They just seem to be good but wen u actually start using em. Ul realise that its better to uninstall them
What happens is that the proximity sensor remains ON all d tym.... Thus draining Battery and sometimes wen u accidentally move your finger or any other thing near it phone locks itself.
Especially if your using some sort of a pin/pattern lock or even slide lock it becomes quite annoying at times.
Go ahead and get ur hands on d application..... Ur surely gonna experience all of above

As above said, you will experience some of difficulties said above but for i9300 I would suggest "gravity screen off", Ive been using it for over past year or so and most light use on ram and most reliable, accurate and most battery friendly for me. it does not appear on my battery stats.
but may vary with devices, I had a S2 HD and gravity caused 5-8% of all battery from a full charge. but s3 works remarkably well. and for the issue above, u can just configure it to turn but not to turn off and donate version have exclude app feature. but if you find it worth, donate the developer.

Take it apart again and make sure it's installed correctly - that's obviously the problem here. Don't use a bandaid for this problem.
I didn't do it because I don't have tools. Also I have read on many forums that every who replaced the glass has the same problem and so far to achieve bacon disabling the proximity sensor is the way to go. I just need a walk through. Please help. Thanks!

There is a tiny rubber cover for the sensor that needs to be there for it to work properly. It is easy to lose when you replace the screen. This is the problem.

Mine had issues too, I moved the rubber peice around, it has to fit a certain way IMO and after a few trys I got it to work properly. However i did sever my on/off button ribbon. heh. Thank god clockwork recovery has a "feature" that it'll power on the phone when usb or AC is connected.
I really need to disable the sensor I don't want it on can any one help???

Have same problem... Can you tell me what i need to do ?
perhaps with UpSoundDown can fix it
what I did was install a new dialer that doesn't use the proximity sensor, which is basically any of them.
Proximity Sensor/Black Screen Fix!!!
Had the same problem after replacing also. Wasn't aware of rubber gasket to isolate signal between the two sensors. Just found out this was causing it from prior posts. Put a stip of black double sided foam tape between the two and found out that this was the problem by testing it with AndroSensor on the app market (free). When I put it in direct sun light it would turn back on. Gets really annoying when you can't hang up! Ribbon is on the opposite side so carefully pry appart without dissasembling again and put a strip while using the app and quickly test by putting your finger over it. Should say PROXIMITY (0.5mA) and stay constantly at (mine) 0.4 in, and change to 0.0 in when covered.

Smart Cover like mod?

I just bought the flip cover samsung case for my note and I was wondering if there was a mod or an app to light up-off the screen with the cover as on the ipad 2... Since it works in phone mode with the proximity sensor maybe that's the option... If someone knows if it exists or if it is possible it would be really appreciated I'm not a developper at all but I can help if someone decides to use my idea for a future one and I'm going to be the first one to use it daily
Thanks
Not sure if it's exactly what you want, but I know there's an app that uses your proximity sensor to automatically turn on and off the screen. Used it as a crap hack when my galaxy s2 had a screen stuck on issue back in the d. Ha. I'll try and find it.
Is this real life?
Found it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.android.smartscreenoffpro
Is this real life?
Just installed, works really well with the flip cover. Will have to wait and see how it affects battery life before I device to buy the pro version, but so far seems like an awesome app.
edit: I installed CPU spy, and so didn't hold a wakelock, sup it shouldn't have much of an effect on battery life, if at all. Really slick app.

Magnetic Sleep / Wake ??

Hi can anyone give a definitive answer whether the GS2 is capable of magnetic sleep / wake function?
I would have assumed it isn't.. but:
I just got a Nexus 7 tablet and a case that wakes device when opened and puts device to sleep when closed. Magnets innit. Simples..
So I thought "oh, I wonder if my S2 does that.."
tap tap tap
A seller on Amazon has this:
iTALKonline PADWEAR ADVANCED Executive BLACK Wallet Case/Cover/Stand With SMART TILT and with Magnetic Sleep Wake Sensor Feature For Samsung i9100 Galaxy S II S2
(I'm not allowed to post links yet..)
Now perhaps this was a foolish assumption, although IMO it really shouldn't be, but I figure if they sell a case with the feature, surely thats a reasonable indicator that the feature exists?
Why don't you get a magnet and try, then report your findings

Well I bought the case and it doesn't work so that may be unnecessary
My phone hasn't updated though, still running 2.3.3, so I think my hope was that someone would tell me I need ICS for it to work....

Thanks that sounds like it may be my best option, can't believe how much it's frustrating me to not have a feature that I only just learned about!
Does that not have a significant impact on battery life?
Still annoyed that I paid over the odds for a case claiming to do something that is likely impossible

it's ok with battery life , display is still the first battery eater , especially that those apps have a sleep policy
No it isn't, hence why there are no cases which provide the feature. I don't think rubbing a magnet up and down your phone is a great idea either.

So only when you hold the phone to your ear the proximity sensor doesn't work?
Yea pretty much, I dont know if there's anything in the settings that needs to be adjusted but it is so frustrating now, please help me over come it. Cheers
I do not have your model phone. I have a note 3. Open the phone as to dial a number amd hit the menu button. I have an option to disable the proximity sensor so the screen would stay on.

Hey! Thanks for the help! When on dial and press on the menu button I don't have any settings coming up, I am assuming you mean a long press, but I don't get anything coming up. Cheers
Are you using a case? If so remove it and see if it helps. Also I read dirt in the proximity sensor could cause the problem. So blow air into the sensor to clean.

enter in service menu and recalibrate the proximity sensor , if doesn't work , it's a hardware fault

worked pretty well on my Samsung S4.
download the app "proximity fix" from the playstore and run it.
Job done.
Hope that helps you or anyone who stumbles upon this!

I have just registered with xda forum so I think my reply may be quite late, but it's never too late, so they say
Anyway, I had the same issue with Huawei P Smart that I've just bought a few hours ago. And I got it resolved with the app called "Smart Screen On Off (New)", by LuuTinh Developer. You will find it on google play.
As long as you test the proximity sensor physically and it works fine, this app should help you get your problem disappear altogether
Happy calls (with a turned-off screen obviously )

Try this: Go to "About phone" and make sure that the advanced mode" is enabled, then go to the "Display and light" and enable "Prevent accidental wake up" . Hope it works.

I have the same problem and it has nothing to with the flip cover, it's a software problem in the Cyanogen OS. Try to force restart you phone by pressing the power key for 10 seconds to use the device normally, then head to the settings and disable "Double tap to sleep" option in the Display settings.
thank you, but same problem...
I'm running cyanogenmod 12.1, not cyanogenOS!
Doesn't matter, I'm running Cyanogen OS 12.1 on my ZUK Z1 and my friend is running CM 12.1 on his OnePlus 1 and we both have the same problem

I've read that maybe a display cover (film) is the reason. That the film is up to the proximity sensor. But I can't image...
Are you using a display film?
